Chairman’s Notes

Welcome back to Central Park for tonight’s JD Cymru North clash with Airbus UK Broughton. There’s something special about night’s at Central Park under the lights and tonight I’m sure will be no different With numerous cup matches drawn away from home including last weekend it’s great to be back here in Denbigh and sinking our teeth into league acon.

Last season we were compeng in the third er whilst Airbus were baling in the Cymru Premier but two very different seasons sees us face off as equals, but we know we’ll need to be at our very best to get a result tonight They sit top of the table with five wins from five and I’m sure the movaon will be there for Dewi and the squad to put an end to that run.

your chosen player, just speak to myself, Iwan or Ollie at the ground or drop the club a line.

Elsewhere our reserves’ season kicked off with a Friday night fixture here against Ruthin, whilst the game ended 0-0 it was a solid performance from Liam Nash’s side and certainly a posive going into the new campaign. They are next in acon here at Central Park tomorrow against Mold at 14:30 and would welcome your support.

The Ladies will also kick-off their new season this weekend, hosng Flint here on Sunday at 14:00 and I’m sure supporters wish them well and we encourage anyone to come down and

support the girls. It’s going to be a busy weekend!

I’d like to wish our junior sides the best of luck not only with their seasons which are kicking off but also as many return to school for the new year.

Finally, a big welcome to Airbus’ players, coaches, staff and supporters and thank you to our own supporters who’ve been fantasc both home and away so far this year.

C’mon Denbigh!

Managers

Office Manager’s Notes

Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North match with Airbus UK Broughton. Last weekend we took a break from the league and entered the WBS League Cup for the first me, taking on Buckley just a month on from our last cup e at the Globe. I was delighted with the way we played in parcular the second half scoring six goals against a very good Buckley side.

Josh Lock recently joined from TNS on loan and I’d like to thank them and manager Craig Harrison for their assistance and allowing Josh to join us to connue his development. It was great for him to score a hatrick on his first start. I was also pleased to see Tom Weir score three in his last two games and Olly Hansen grab a deserved goal when called upon.

Three players have departed since our last home game and I’d like to thank Luca Benne and Jacob Edwards in parcular who were part of our double winning campaign in 2022/23.

We’ve been bolstered in the last week or so with players returning from injury including Mahew

Worrall and Billy Holmes who returned last weekend against Buckley. Both are instrumental players and to have them return is a huge boost with others sll needing treatment.

We sit 8th in the JD Cymru North at the moment with five games gone but it will take a few weeks yet before seeing where the land really lies in the division this term. Results around the league already have shown that anyone can beat anyone in what is one of the toughest divisions in Wales.

Today we face an Airbus side sitting top of the table with five wins from five and we know we’ll need our all to get a victory this evening. They were in the Cymru Premier last season so will be hoping to bounce back posively this year. I’d like to welcome the players, coaches, staff and supporters who join us this evening from Broughton Finally I’d like to thank you for your tremendous support so far this season, it’s made a huge difference to the lads and it’s massively appreciated both at home and on the road.

Diolch yn fawr.

TOWN SAIL THROUGH THANKS TO NEW KID ON THE LOCK BUCKLEY TOWN 2 6 DENBIGH TOWN FC

Denbigh Town have flown through the first round of the WBS League Cup with a -

stunning six secondhalf goals and a Josh Lock hatrick.

Lock, making his full debut after signing on loan from TNS, grabbed three whilst a Tom Weir brace and Olly Hansen effort put Buckley to the sword

A number of changes were made to the side that faced Chirk on Monday with Lock starting, Matthew Worrall making his return, Ryan Kershaw re-joining the starting XI and Hansen also coming into the team.

Denbigh’s first-ever game in the WBS League Cup kicked off in sweltering conditions, a stark contrast to the Nathaniel MG Cup tie played at the Globe just 28 days previous.

It took Town just three minutes for Denbigh to create their first chance as Hansen drove through the middle before blazing an effort over the bar.

Denbigh were in control of the game throughout, especially in the opening exchange. Despite this, Buckley did have a chance after just seven minutes with a scramble in the box denied by goalkeeper Aaron Jones before being spilled, and Craig Pritchard had to clear

Though Denbigh had the lion's share of the ball opportunities were limited in the first half and each side went into the break without a goal.

Half-Time: Buckley Town 0-0

Denbigh Town

The second half started with a bang as Town opened the scoring, the first of eight goals in the half Tom Weir picked the ball up on the right of the box following a run from Pritchard to drill home into the bottom left corner to put the visitors in front.

Six minutes later the lead was doubled, as Hansen broke down the left, crossed for Worrall who could only direct it back to Hansen to finish from close range. Without any time to breathe it was three just seconds later as Lock on his full debut raced through to finish calmly and dispatch the ball into the bottom right of the Bucks goal.

mark, and two minutes later he sidefooted the ball home from a corner unmarked.

Denbigh also made changes of their own introducing Jake Walker, Harry Lockley and Paul Fleming before giving the nod to Nathan Brown who made his 50th appearance for the club in all competitions There was also a welcome return for Billy Holmes.

With 22 minutes remaining Denbigh were out of sight when Lock finished calmly following a threaded pass from Hansen for his brace.

The board went up for stoppage time as six were added but there was still time for three more goals. First of all Weir made it a double when a corner came in, struck the post before he followed up to finish, whilst Buckley responded via Laurence Cant.

With 96 minutes on the clock the ball fell to Lock inside the box who lobbed the goalkeeper with grace to make it a sensational hatrick and see Town into the second round and record back-to-back wins.

Denbigh are next in action on Friday as we face Airbus UK Broughton.

POTM | Harry Lockley Named August Player of the Month Defender impresses for first award of the campaign

The Denbigh Town Player of the Month for August 2023 has been

decided by supporters.

Almost 150 votes decided on the winner of the four nominees with Harry Lockley finishing on top.

The 21-year-old recently returned to the side after eight months out to receive treatment for a kidney condition but looked as if he'd never been away with superb performances for Denbigh.

Lockley looked sharp in pre-season and has forced his way into the

side and provided the assist for Tom Weir's goal at Chirk on Monday.

Lockley finished on top with the other three nominees being Tom Weir, Craig Pritchard and Nathan Brown.

New-signing Tom Weir came second in the competition with votes coming from both our club Twitter and website polls, whilst they were followed up by Nathan Brown and Craig Pritchard.

Brief History

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.

A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.

After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.

In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.

After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League

in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years. The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level.

Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers The team finished the season in 12th position

In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.

After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance. This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.

John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the

2010/2011 season.

Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012

In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football

Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season

Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).

However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager

Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him

New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.

Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020 He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.

The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22.

The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.

Brief History continued

History

With changes in the factory name the football team has followed suit, being known at various mes as VickersArmstrong, de Havilands, Hawker Siddeley, Brish Aerospace, BAe Systemsand Airbus UK. The club is now firmly established as Airbus UK Broughton and unl the end of the 2003/04 season, played its football in the Cymru Alliance - the second-er of the Welsh football pyramid.

The club was formed in 1946 and has played in both the Chester & District League and the Welsh Naonal League (Wrexham Area). Our last move into the Welsh pyramid system, saw us canter to the Welsh Naonal League Division Two tle during the 1991/92 season winning it by a clear 19 points In that season we won 28 of our 34 matches and scored a remarkable 130 goals, an average of almost four goals per game We also reached the NEWFA Challenge Cup final losing narrowly to Gresford Athlec

We then spent four seasons in Division One, the first two seasons we finishing sixth. In the third season, two places beer in fourth. in the 1995/96 season we gained a further promoon, finishing runners-up behind Wrexham Colts at the end of the campaign: enough to us move into the Premier Division of the Welsh Naonal League along with the divisional champions.

Once again we spent four seasons at that level with our first two campaigns showing steady consolidaonfinishing seventh and sixth respecvely. In 1998/99 campaign, the side pushed hard for the tle but finished runners-up, just two points behind eventual champions Corwen Amateurs.

But in the following season we could not be stopped from winning the tle with 21 victories from 30 matches, finishing our programme four points ahead of Ruthin Town and Penycae This success meant promoon once again into the Cymru Alliance and to coincide with the promoon the club changed its name from Brish Aerospace

to Airbus UK

Our first season in the second-er finished with a creditable 11th-placed finish with 10 wins and 14 defeats. Connuing the paern seen aer previous promoons, the second term saw a steady improvement and in the 2001/02, we finished in eighth spot with 16 wins. The club showed signs of progress again in the 2002/03 season, achieving our highest ever finish of 5th spot, as well as reaching the NEWFA Challenge Cup final - losing narrowly on penales.

2003/04 saw us take the Cymru Alliance tle, winning the league by 19 points from closest rivals Buckley Town, and thus gained promoon the Welsh Premier for the first me in the clubs history. Ground improvements

The Wingmakers carried out improvements to our ground What is now known as the main stand was built with a pavilion incorporang changing rooms This was completed early in 2004 and two more stands were later added on the opposite touchline and at the Runway End, bringing seang capacity to more than 500. Floodlights were installed in me for the beginning of the 2004/05 season in the Welsh Premier League.

The first two seasons in the Welsh top flight were difficult on the pitch. The club baled hard to avoid relegaon and appointed former Wrexham midfielder Gareth Owen as player-manager following two seasons at Flintshire rivals Connahs Quay Nomads.

Performances gradually improved as the Wingmakers finished 12th in 2006/07 earning a spot in the FAW Premier Cup for the first me The following season brought 11 victories and 42 points to finish in 11th place

Gareth Owen moved to Rhyl during the 2008 close season and the former Middlesbrough player Craig Harrison assumed the managerial reins having previously been assistant to Owen at The Hollingsworth Group Stadium Aer three-and-a-half-years, Harrison moved on to TNS and was replaced by Andy Preece as director of football with ex-Manchester City defender Andy Morrison as his assistant.

History

The most successful period in the club’s history followed Finishing a creditable seventh in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup, the club embarked on its most successful Welsh Premier League campaign in 2012/13

European qualificaon and recent years
