Board Room Chairman’s Notes Welcome to Central Park this a ernoon for our JD Welsh Cup e against Flint Town Utd. I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Flint players, coaching team, Commi ee and supporters. Last week we had no fica on from the FAW that they would like us to host two Interna onals in the Sky Sports Victory Shield which is taking place in half term. This compe on involves the Na ons of Wales, Scotland , Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland playing each other at Under 16 boys level. All the countries will play each other over the half term week on a league basis with the winner being the country with the most points. We will be hos ng as follows: Monday 6th November – Wales v Northern Ireland Wednesday 8th November – Wales v Republic of Ireland Kick off mes and admission prices will be announced nearer the me, but once again this is a superb accolade for our Club to be nominated to hold such pres gious games. It all goes in tandem for our plans to hold Euro Under 19 Interna onals here at Central Park in 2026 when Wales is the host na on for that event. It’s certainly an exci ng me to be involved with the Club and if you would like to become part of the team of volunteers who help out at the Club on match days and behind the scenes, then please have a word with myself or Iwan. Today is Cup day and we had some really great mes in two compe ons last season when we won the Lock Stock Ardal North League Cup and were runners up in the FAW Amateur Trophy. There is nothing like a good Cup run and I’d like to think we can overcome the form book by causing an upset today and coming out winners against an in-form Flint side. Let’s get behind Dewi’s lads and into the hat for the next round

Shon Powell Chairman

Managers Office Manager’s Notes Welcome to Central Park for this a ernoon’s JD Welsh Cup Round 2 e against Flint Town Utd. Flint are riding high in the same League as ourselves and are currently undefeated and stand second in the JD Cymru North League. We met in our opening game of the season at Flint when we went down 2-1 in a very close game which could have gone either way. We had a superb goal from Ryan Kershaw disallowed as he scored direct from a drop ball from the referee. He shot a brilliant strike from 25 yards but no one else touched the ball and so the goal was disallowed. Many of us were unaware of this ruling un l that a ernoon.

We all know it’s a tough e, but one we go into on the back of some excellent results recently. We are the underdogs , but this is the Cup and as we all know anything can happen in Cup Ties. Last weekend we played well to comfortably win 6-2 against Llanidloes. We dominated the game and an early goal from our captain Paul Fleming helped se le us. With Nay Brown ge ng two goals before half me and us extending the lead shortly a er the break via Tom Weir we were in complete control Young Josh Lock who is on loan from TNS has impressed us all with his skill and ball play. He added the fi h before scoring a brilliant solo goal just towards the final whistle, so a pleasing result all round. Kris an Pierce stepped in goal last week as our regular keeper Aaron Jones suffered an accident at work and may be out for a couple more weeks. Azzy has been an ever present so far this season and has made some vital saves at key moments in games and we are all hoping he’s back to full fitness as soon as possible. In fairness to KP, he did well as Azzy’s replacement and he’ll con nue to fill the void un l Azzy returns. A er the Llanidloes game, Jake Walker contacted me to state he was looking to leave the Club. Jake has been a fantas c servant for us. He was my first ever signing as manager. He’s scored some fantas c goal in his career with ourselves, and has a great record as a goalscorer with 94 goals in 146 appearances. Jake is looking for regular game me and felt he wasn’t likely to achieve this with us at the moment. He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the Club - a proper Clubman who is highly respected amongst the players, management squad, commi ee and most importantly our supporters. Thanks for everything Jake. Enjoy this a ernoon’s game .

Dewi Llion Jones Manager

TOWN HIT 6 DENBIGH TOWN FC 6—2 LLANDILOES TOWN Denbigh Town smashed Llanidloes for six and made it two home games on the bounce in which they’ve scored a sextet of goals. Nathan Brown (brace), Josh Lock (brace), Tom Weir and Paul Fleming brushed the visitors aside in an impressive display at LL16. Dewi Llion made changes to the side that lost to Porthmadog a week previous, with Keiron Roberts coming into the side and Kristian Pierce forced to step in between the sticks for the absent Aaron Jones. The game began following a minute’s silence for Denbigh Ladies original Karen Coates who tragically passed away this week, with both sides remembering her and her contribution to the club. t took just four minutes for Town to take the lead as Weir threaded a wonderful pass for Fleming to smash home from the right of the box at a tight angle. Town started superbly and almost had two when Lock breezed through down the left but couldn’t pull the trigger, instead being denied by a defender just yards out. Craig Pritchard had some similar fortune when running at the back-line before being hacked down on the edge of the box. Seconds later Brown curled the set-piece to the right of the keeper to double the advantage. Denbigh were dominant and continued their wave of pressure throughout, Craig Rogers’ low cross just evaded both Weir and Fleming before Lock chipped the keeper from 40-yards before it crept inches over the crossbar.

Brown almost had his second on the half-hour mark when he pickpocketed Jordan Ambris before being denied by the keeper. Rogers was having success down the left but during a rare foray down the opposite flank, he crossed for Fleming who couldn’t turn his header on target. Just before the break Town had three when Weir had it on the edge of the box, hit one towards the bottom corner but without much purpose, and Brown helped it on to round off a superb half. Half-Time: Denbigh Town 3-0 Llanidloes Town Seven minutes into the second period the visitors pulled one back as Adam Worton rose highest to nod them back into the game, but Denbigh were having none of it. Within the same minute, Weir made a run down the left and slammed it into the bottom corner to slam the door back in the visitors' faces. The game had five goals already and didn’t look like stopping, Lock - who had his chances earlier in the afternoon - finally had his goal when bursting down the flank and squeezing the ball past Luke Evans. Jason Foulkes was one of five players introduced from the bench and he almost made an immediate impact when he caused havoc for the back four, getting a shot away from an angle and striking the post. Danny Clarke another sub also had his chances, swivelling and hitting one against the side netting before making an incredible run down the middle before being denied by Evans. Connor Bird, the top marksman for Llanidloes nodded home a second for the visitors following a great initial save from Pierce but Town replied immediately as Lock had his second and Denbigh’s sixth. He waltzed past everyone after picking it up in the middle of the park and struck it home via the post just before stoppage time. In the dying embers, James Smallwood rattled the crossbar for Llanidloes but the game was set and Town picked up maximum points.

Denbigh Town: Pierce, Jones, B.Lockley, Parry-Jones, Rogers, Fleming, Lock, Roberts, Pritchard, Weir, Brown Subs: Holmes, Hansen, Foulkes, Clarke, Worrall, Walker Referee: Andy Harms Attendance: 182

WORRALL COTED JD CYMRU NORTH PLAYER OF THE MONTH Denbigh Town are delighted to learn that Matthew Worrall has picked up the September 2023 Player of the Month award for the JD Cymru North. Worrall scored four goals in three matches as well as grabbing an assist, beating fellow nominees Shaun Cavanagh (Porthmadog), Jake Roberts (Mold Alexandra) and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (Flint). He played a vital role in the side that won crucial matches with Buckley and Airbus UK Broughton whilst we also advanced in two cup competitions. “After the injury and being sidelined for five weeks after the first game of the season at Flint, to come back and win this straight away means a little more than it should” said Worrall. “I’m buzzing with the award and the recognition from others, Up the Town!”

Manager Dewi Llion commented “I’m really pleased for Matthew picking up the award, he was a massive part of our success on the pitch in September, scoring some really important goals in the process. “He’s continued his scoring form since rejoining in January and to be recognised as the best in the JD Cymru North last month is well deserved, he’s come back fitter and stronger and got his reward for his hard work”. Congratulations, Woggy!

THREE WINS FROM THREE THIS WEEKEND Denbigh Town’s three senior sides were all in action and it made for happy reading come Sunday night with all three coming out on top. Here we break down the weekend from games at Central Park and on the road. Denbigh Town 6-2 Llanidloes Town - JD Cymru North

For the second successive home match Town hit six and picked up the points as Dewi Llion’s side dismantled Llanidloes. Goals from Nathan Brown (brace), Josh Lock (brace), Tom Weir and Paul Fleming saw Town bounce back from a defeat at Porthmadog a week previous. It was also significantly Jake Walker’s 146th and final Denbigh appearance having announced he’s moving on following the match. Porthmadog Reserves 4-6 Denbigh Town Reserves - FAW Reserve League North The Reserves’ unbeaten start to the 2023/24 season continued with a 10-goal thriller at Y Traeth. Harry Lea scored early to make it 1-1 after just four minutes before Rhys Lloyd grabbed a double alongside goals from Aleksander Cyra, Andy Thomas and Owen Herbert as Town moved to second in the table. They are next in action on Friday night at 20:00 against table toppers Airbus UK Broughton. Denbigh Town Ladies 9-0 Bellevue Women - NEWFA Cup Denbigh Town Ladies began their NEWFA Cup campaign against a familiar opponent. Having played eachother in the league just seven days previous Town once again came out on top with an emphatic victory. Goals from Ceri Purvis (hatrick), Bethany Kell (brace), Lowri Claybrook, Megan Edwards, Elen James-Owen and Charlotte Morris sealed the win. Before the tie we stopped to remember founding member Karen Coates with a minutes’ silence before the game, as did the men’s first-team 24 hours previous.

The Ladies are next in action next weekend at home to Berriew in the North Wales Women’s Football League East.

Brief History

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since. One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.

A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.

After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.

In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.

After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years. The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level. Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm. Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers. The team finished the season in 12th position.

In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.

After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance. This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.

Brief History continued John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the 2010/2011 season.

Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012.

In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football

Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments. A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later. In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season. Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).

However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him.

New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.

Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020. He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach. A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.

The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22. The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.

History Flint has had a football club since 1886, when Flint F.C. started playing at Strand Park on the banks of the Dee Estuary, close to where our current stadium is. The club made an early impression by reaching the first Welsh Amateur Cup final 1890-91, losing to Wrexham Victoria 4-1. By the turn of the century the town of Flint had three teams; Flint Town, Flint Athletic and Flint UAC (United Alkali Company). In 1905, Flint UAC and Flint Town amalgamated, taking the name of Flint Town. In 1909, as a Chester and District League side the club won their first major cup by defeating Pwllheli 1-0 in the final of the North Wales Amateur Cup. In 1924 the club left Stand Park for a new ground at Holywell Road, which was to become their home till 1993. The new ground was then better equipped and could hold up to 3000 spectators. These crowds were common in the 1920s, they were keen to see Flint’s part time professionals play. Led by Captain Emlyn Jones, Flint reached the 1925 Welsh Cup final only to lose 3-1 to Wrexham’s professional team Regular cup successes were to follow however, as Flint won the North Wales Amateur Cup on three occasions between 1931 and 1932. Following the Second World War, the amalgamation of Flint Town and Flint Athletic football clubs resulted in the formation of the club bearing the title Flint Town United Football Club which entered the Welsh League (North) for the 1949-50 season, finishing runners-up to Holyhead Town. By this time, however, the club had already won the Welsh Amateur Cup, having defeated Troedyrhiw 2-1 in the 1947-48 final. Under the managership of Billy Russell Flint became a formidable side in the early 50s, with the pinnacle achievement coming in 1954 when they won the Welsh Senior Cup. Inspired by Welsh International Billy Hughes, whose career was disrupted by the war, overcame Holywell Town, Owestry Town, Rhyl, Llanelly and a semi-final 2-1 win over First Division Cardiff City, in front of a crowd of 10,683 at the Racecourse, Wrexham, beating third division Chester City 2-0 in the final, again at the Racecourse Ground Wrexham in front of a crowd of 15,584. During this period, they also won the League title in three consecutive seasons and were runners up on two occasions. Efforts to move into the English league system were stymied, and the team’s fortunes dwindled although they did win the Welsh Youth Cup in 1965 and the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1969. During the 1970s and 80s the club moved between various leagues, becoming league champions of the Clwyd League in 1978/79 and Welsh League (North) in the 1988-89 season. In 1990/91, a reorganisation of the league structure saw the creation of the Cymru Alliance, and Flint, under Tony Martin and Les Davies, were inaugural winners of the league. whilst also winning the North Wales Challenge Cup for the first time in the club’s history. To cap an excellent season they overcame South Wales Champions Abergavenny 2-1, to become the nonleague champions of Wales. In 1992, Flint became founder members of the League of Wales (LOW). The following season the club again moved to a new ground, back to its original home on the banks of the Dee Estuary. After six years in the League of Wales, with a fourth placed finish (1993/94) being our highest placing during this time, and with finances becoming an increasing burden with no main sponsors, the club eventually lost its place when it finished third from bottom (being relegated due to the LOW reducing the number of teams within the league under UEFA rules), rejoining the Cymru Alliance League. A number of fallow years followed, although in 2006/07 they did once again win the North Wales Challenge Cup, defeating Prestatyn Town 1-0. Fast forward to 2019/20, and the club finished runners up to Prestatyn in the Cymru North. However, with the champions being refused the domestic licence, after an absence of 22 years, Flint Town Utd were back in the top tier of Welsh domestic football. Despite finishing next to bottom in that first season back, Flint were spared relegation as the Covid pandemic had meant no Tier 2 leagues were operating. For 2021/22, under the management of Neil Gibson, the club excelled and finished in the top half, reaching the play off final only to lose to Caernarfon Town in extra time. But at the end of the season, Gibson, along with a host of players, abruptly departed, leaving plans in disarray. Lee Fowler was appointed manager, with Iwan Williams as his assistant. The pair were faced with the unenviable task of putting virtually a new team together from scratch within a few weeks. That they were able to do so and take the fight right down to the final game of the season, is testament to their dedication, but ultimately results went against us, and we were relegated back into the Cymru North for season 2023/24.
