Board Room Chairman’s Notes Welcome to Central Park this evening for the JD Cymru North League game against Prestatyn Town. I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Prestatyn players, coaching team, Commi ee and supporters. Last week we were invited as a Club to a end the Denbighshire Leisure Communi es Awards night at the Rhyl Pavilion. Over 500 people a ended as we won the Denbighshire Sports Club of the Year Award. This really is a superb accolade for the Club as it recognises all the hard work done by everyone involved within our Club. The Award recognised a Club that had demonstrated excellence in management, development and compe on throughout the Club. It recognised not only the fantas c achievements of our First Team this season with their League and Cup double, but also the Juniors sec on achieving Pla num Accredita on by the Football Associa on of Wales together with the con nued improvement of our Ladies and Reserves Teams. We took 30 people to the event including Commi ee members , Players and Coaches from the First Team, Reserves, Ladies and Juniors , together with invaluable volunteers and loyal supporters. A truly memorable evening. Our Award is on display in the Clubhouse this evening. A couple of weeks ago we held two more successful Interna onal games here at Central Park when Cymru Under16’s played Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in the Victory Shield. Once again, the games saw great support from the area with over 1200 people a ending the two games. Cymru drew their first game 1-1 against Northern Ireland and cruelly lost to a last minute penalty in a 3-2 defeat to the Republic of Ireland . Nevertheless, it was so good to hear all the teams comment highly on the quality of our grass pitch, and the FAW have pencilled us in to hold more such games in 2024. Our goalmouths have taken a bit of a ba ering over the last few games. We are arranging for 360 Groundcare to carry out work over the next week on these areas to help prepare us for our Boxing Day game against Ruthin Town and the rest of games this season as we move into 2024. Our Xmas Raffle books are on sale in the Clubhouse and Red Café. This is one of our fund raisers as a Club and monies raised go to all sec ons of the Club. Please help support this by purchasing a cket or dona ng a prize for the draw which takes place on Saturday 16th December at the Masons Arms. Thank you all for your support this last year. It’s been a blast. Merry Christmas to you and your families

Managers Office Manager’s Notes Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North League game against Prestatyn Town It seems an age since we last played here at Central Park when we beat Mold Alex with an impressive 3-2 performance and a last minute winner from Dan Parry Jones. I felt we made a statement that night as I felt we were more than a match for a team we consider to be amongst our peers in this League. We had good spells of possession that created so many chances in the first half. We should have put the game to bed by then and let Mold into the game as they had a good spell at the start of the second half when they equalised and could have gone ahead. A week later we played tonight’s visitors Prestatyn at Bas on Gardens and this me dominated the first half and were in complete control by half me as we went into the break 3-0 up. Scoring early on from Ma y Worrall and Ryan Kershaw helped us enormously and by 60 minutes I felt the game was won, especially as they’d been reduced to ten men by that me. Two lads from the Reserves have been impressing us and are looking ready for a step up to the First Team. Both 16 year old Rhys Lloyd and 17 year old Owen Herbert came on as subs in the Prestatyn game and took this opportunity to stake their claims as they put in assured performances. They both have a bright future ahead of them in the game. Last weekend we travelled to Flint in another really entertaining game against a youthful Flint side in the Welsh Blood Service JD North League Cup Quarter Final. We won 4-3 in a fast-flowing game played in a great spirit. Once again, we had several chances in the first half to go in at half me with a decent lead. Instead, we didn’t take these and allowed Flint to take the lead from some sloppy defending and although we equalised immediately a erwards it took a great goal from Ryan Kershaw to give us a 2-1 cushion going into the break. The second half saw us take control by being 4-2 up a er 63 minutes and we brought on several subs tu ons to give lads more game me. This decision almost backfired as Flint scored a late goal and almost equalised late on, but fair play to our lads we held out to go into the Semi-Final. Tonight, we have most of the lads fit. Paul Fleming will undergo a late fitness test as he had a badly bruised foot a er a challenge in the first minute at Prestatyn and he missed the Flint game as a result. Nathan Brown has returned to the squad a er a recent spell in Dubai. It’s a game with which we’re looking to con nue our present winning run and push on with our challenge to the top of the League. This is our last home game before Christmas and the management team and playing squad would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and thank you for all your support over what has been an amazing year here at Denbigh Town Football Club.
Enjoy the game.
Dewi Llion Jones

PREVIEW| DENBIGH TOWN V PRESTATYN TOWN Denbighshire Derby at Central Park Denbigh Town return to league action on Friday night with the return match of the Denbighshire Derby against Prestatyn. The second meeting in the space of three weeks is highly anticipated as two county rivals face off under the floodlights. Denbigh Town v Prestatyn Town Date: 01/12/2023 Kick-Off: 19:30 Location: Central Park Competition: JD Cymru North Admission: Adults (£6), Concessions (£4), Under 16s (£2) Form Town come into the game on the back of a stunning 4-3 victory at Flint in the WBS League Cup. Goals from Matthew Worrall, Ryan Kershaw, Josh Lock and Tom Weir secured a positive result with Denbigh the first side to win at Flint this season. Denbigh’s last match in the JD Cymru North came against this weekend’s opponents Prestatyn. A Worrall double and Kershaw effort bagged a 3-0 success at Bastion Gardens.
It’s been almost a month since Town played at Central Park, that was a dramatic night with Dan Parry-Jones netting a stoppage time winner against Mold Alexandra. Prestatyn were last in action on Saturday where they, like Denbigh, advanced to the Northern Semi-Final of the WBS League Cup. They took on Ruthin Town with the match ending 1-1 before triumphing on penalties. Their last match in the JD Cymru North was against Denbigh and are without a win in the league since October, beating Llanidloes 1-0. Head-to-Head Our last match with the Seasiders came just a matter of weeks ago but this will be Prestatyn’s first game at Central Park since 2018. That time saw Denbigh this time take a 2-1 home win in September 2018. The first recorded meeting of Denbigh facing a Prestatyn side came in September 1905 in the North Wales Coast Junior League Division Two, with the two teams playing out a 3-3 draw at Denbigh’s old home ground, Graig Road. The first trip to Prestatyn came a month later in a North Wales Junior Cup replay after an initial draw, which the home side won 3-2. Our first league match at Prestatyn came on the final day of the campaign in March 1906, drawing 1-1. The club’s wouldn’t meet again formally until the late 1940s in the Dyserth League and wouldn’t regularly clash until 1983/84 in the Clwyd Premier. Denbigh beat the Seasiders to the Welsh Alliance title in 1995/96 and our first meeting in the Cymru Alliance/North came in 2007, the first of just eight matches at this level between the two sides. Stat Pack Denbigh are looking for their first Denbighshire Derby league double over Prestatyn since 2002/03. Matthew Worrall requires one more score for his 30th league goal for Denbigh Town. Danny Clarke could make his 70th Denbigh Town appearance in all competitions. Ben Lockley could make his 60th Denbigh Town appearance in all competitions. Keep Up You can keep up to date with all the action via the club’s social media channels including live text commentary via our X (FKA Twitter) page and match report on the club website post-match. For live updates as they happen follow Denbigh Town on the Cymru Football App.
REPORT FLINT TOWN UNITED 3 - 4 DENBIGH TOWN Town through to Northern section Semi-Final Denbigh Town advanced through to the Semi-Final stage of the WBS League Cup Northern Section with a huge victory over Flint. Goals from Matthew Worrall, Ryan Kershaw, Josh Lock and Tom Weir secured their spot and become the first side to win at Flint this season. Dewi Llion welcomed back Nathan Brown who returned from a short stint in Dubai and was named amongst the substitutes whilst Danny Clarke had a place in the starting XI.
he game began with both sides carving out chances. Town had a corner on three minutes which fell to Ben Lockley latched on to, striking the post before Lock fired wide. Denbigh continued the pressure with Kershaw testing the goalkeeper before Worrall took a touch and struck the ball just over in the opening ten minutes. Despite the early onslaught it was Flint who fired themselves in front when capitalising on a defensive mishap, that led to Louis Lacey drilling the ball home. That advantage would last just two minutes. A brilliant move from Town ended with Worrall tapping home from just six yards out.
Flint were dangerous on the break and a long ball over the top found Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro who volleyed towards goal from the right which Aaron Jones saved well, before the rebound flew wide. The experienced forward had another chance on 23 minutes when he found himself one on one with Jones but got his effort all wrong and it flew well wide. Denbigh responded with Weir pickpocketing the last defender but couldn’t find the target as his shot flashed across goal. Just before the break Town had the lead, a great passing move found itself midway into the Flint half with Kershaw who drove forward before firing into the bottom corner, reminiscent of his goal against Prestatyn a week previous. Half-Time: Flint Town United 1-2 Denbigh Town The first opportunity of the second period fell to Craig Pritchard who picked up the ball on the left, cut inside, and fired inches wide of the target. A minute later Flint levelled to begin a frantic couple of minutes. Akpa-Akpro capitalised on poor defensive play and punished Denbigh by firing home inside the box. However, just a minute later Danny Clarke made a superb run down the left channel before crossing to Lock who bundled the ball home. Town made it four with 27 minutes to play when Weir latched on to a long ball and calmly slammed the ball low into the back of the net. With 20 minutes left Flint almost halved the deficit through Akpa-Akpro when Josh Jones’ cross from the right was turned onto the post. They almost had their third with six minutes to play as a ball came in from a corner and dropped to George Maire who sliced the shot wide. Denbigh despite being under the cosh still found chances in front of goal, Lockley made a run down the right before crossing to Jason Foulkes, the substitute cut in onto his right and curled the shot inches wide of the far post. Flint finally had their third via Harvey Drazdauskas leading to a nervy ending but they couldn’t send it to penalties with Town through to the next round. Denbigh Town: A.Jones, S.Jones, Lockley, Holmes, Roberts, Lock, Kershaw, Pritchard, Clarke, Weir, Worrall Subs: Rogers, Parry-Jones, Foulkes, Brown, Lloyd Attendance: 225 Referee: Richard Wright

Brief History
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since. One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.
A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.
After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.
In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.
After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years. The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level. Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm. Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers. The team finished the season in 12th position.
In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.
After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance. This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.
Brief History continued John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the 2010/2011 season.
Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012.
In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football
Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments. A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later. In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season. Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).
However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him.
New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.
Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020. He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach. A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.
The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22. The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.
History An undeveloped field on Marine Road in Prestatyn could be called the club’s first ‘ground’, with records suggesting that games were played there as long ago as the 1890s. After that they moved from field to field, football pitch to football pitch. There is some debate as to whether any of the sides that played those games are linked to the modern day Prestatyn Football Club, with a number of them folding after only a couple of seasons in existence. What we can say with certainty is that the club won the North Wales Coast FA Junior Cup in the 1928-1929 season, the first piece of silverware of its existence. Back then the manager was a man called Sam Bennett, but managing wasn’t all he did. He was also the head of the football club’s committee, trainer of the players and also wrote match reports, which he gave to the local newspapers. He was even known to act as the linesman for games on more than a few occasions!
During the 1940s the club played under the name of Chandypore FC, but this didn’t last long. With the exception of a stint playing with the sponsored name of Prestatyn Town Nova in 1990, they have remained simply Prestatyn Town Football Club for the majority of their years of playing football. Apart from that FA Junior Cup at the end of the 1920s, however, success had been di cult for the club to come by regardless of what they called themselves. In fact, their next taste of success didn’t come about until the end of the 1971-1972 season when they won the Dyserth Area League. Having had the taste for success, they didn’t want to relent and won the same thing in the 1972-1973 and 1973-1974 seasons. At that point the Dyserth Area League was merged together with the Halkyn Mountain League to create the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Football League, otherwise known as the Clwyd Premier League. Prestatyn Town didn’t let the added competition that came with the new league stop their run of success, however. They did a league and cup double in 1974-1975, winning their division and the Clwyd Premier Cup. The following year they repeated the trick, though that was their last silverware until the won the Clwyd Premier Cup again in 1982. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s The Seasiders won occasional trophies to keep the fans interested, such as the Clwyd President’s Cup in 1984 and the REM Jones Cup in 1995. Yet ahead of the 1998-1999 season it seemed as it disaster was going to cause trouble in Prestatyn. There was a split within the club that saw Prestatyn Town resign from the Welsh Alliance and a new club, Prestatyn Nova, forming. If people had been expecting Town to fall apart they were in for a shock; The Seasiders went on to win a Clwyd League, Premier Cup and President’s Cup treble!
