rt is perceived differently by everyone as it’s purely down to one’s interpretation. However the definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and use of imagination. Typically expressed in a visual form, such as painting or sculpture, with the purpose of being appreciated primarily for its beauty, visual impact and emotional power. Art is a form of expression, whether you are creating the piece or admiring its content. Art can tell a story, or let the viewer interpret and determine for themselves what the meaning behind it may be. It’s a form of therapy for many as it can be a tool for relaxation as it enables an individual to be expressive, creative and focused, allowing them to disconnect from the chaos of the real world for some time. Art also encourages cultural growth as people from all over the world travel to see famous art work to broaden their knowledge of the specific artist, style of work, or location and time period of the piece. Culture is also illustrated throughout artwork, and reflects

Art has been around for thousands of years and has developed in its style, purpose and meaning. Its positive impact is vast, from the artist to the viewer. Art always leaves a lasting impression, and the most amazing thing is, it’s completely different for everyone!

hen you think of it, music and time are intertwined. They remind us of each other; when you think of a memorable piece of music, your mind always goes back to a certain period when that tune was most popular or was composed. It’s with that in mind that Jacob & Co. created the Opera Godfather Edition. In this watch, they have united two traditional Swedish crafts, that of time, which we are all conversant with, and that of music, which few people associate with Swedish people. One thing that you isn’t debatable is that its design truly unique. It’s been designed to be a wearable music box and at the same

time, a timepiece. That’s not an easy thing to depict, which makes this watch worth having. When it comes to its finishing, the extent of the artistic mastery involved in its creation is evident. The centrally placed “godfather” is engraved and painted by hand. The same applies to the gold music score; it’s also lacquered and engraved by hand, while the cylinders are gold-plated. The screw heads are mirror-polished, while the bridges and plate are shot-blasted, then PVD coated. The dial has a pair of blue hands, and its surface is embroidered with gold appliqués. The movement is housed in a 47 mm case that’s fabricated from pink gold and DLC titanium. They have used a sapphire crystal that’s highly domed, which is a technical feat considering it consists of one part, and yet they have also managed to give it a clear cut angles. The highly domed shape allows you to view the complex movement from any angle without any impediment.

A fresheye exploration of the genre and format of music...
F
rom The Beatles to the Chicago the musical - music is unquestionably at the heart of cultural influence throughout the world. It’s arguably one of the most powerful forms of communication and has a remarkable ability to cross boundaries as well as touch hearts and minds beyond even the capabilities of political power. Live Aid is a testiment to that. A dual-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Attended by 72,000 in London and 100,000 in Philadelphia USA. While technology has inevitably changed the way we listen to and consume music, many purists including a new generation seek to hark back to a more authentic sound. Hence the resurgence of the analogue appreciation. Vinyl records and analogue equipment have seen a return to favour for many listeners and artists. There’s even a return to early digital format like CD over MP3. The attraction there is also attributed to the tangeable nature of pictures, words and artwork that music lovers have missed through our modern day stream and cloud system. The futuristic and the bizarre. Holographic digital imagery can now be projected in conjuction with live dancers and music. The deceased can me brought back to performance as in the recent Whitney Houston Hologram Tour.

Rega Plana Bringing the purity and simplicity of British technology home by Dennis Sterne.
T
he Rega Planar 3, together with its successors, the P3 and RP3, is a wellknown budget audiophile turntable by British hi-fi manufacturer, Rega Research available since 1977. It was a belt-drive deck that broke from convention, by employing a solid plinth in lieu of the compliantly-suspended chassis or sub-chassis used in many quality turntables since the early 1960s. The product has lived through several guises and name changes, any of which are often referred to simply as “Rega 3”. It is highly influential, and has made its small British manufacturer’s name synonymous with hi-fi turntables, and gave the company the widest brand recognition in this product sector in the US. Its relative simplicity and affordability made the Rega 3 a “bedrock of analog playback for well over 30 years”.
fresh eye
In 2016, Rega released its 5th generation of Rega 3 turntables, and returned to its original name, Planar 3. A significant redesign, the 2016 Planar 3 features almost all new parts but still shares its basic engineering with its older siblings. History The turntable has been through four principal guises: Planar 3 (1977–2000) (2016-), P3 (2000–2007), P3-24 (2007–2012) and RP3 (2012–2016). The first Rega turntable, the Planar 2 was launched in 1975. This was followed by the launch in June 1977 of the Planar 3. The two decks are of identical design but built to different budgets. The Planar 3 turntable established itself as a “threshold” or entry-level for high quality turntables. It became hugely popular and is one of the most well-known turntables ever produced.

Design Rega went against conventional wisdom of the time, preferring to make their decks lightweight and rigid as a means of controlling unwanted resonances. Their belief was that mass absorbs energy and results in lost music. In other senses, the turntables are deliberately minimalistic and neither require nor justify any ‘tweaking’ by users, except adjustment to the vertical-tracking-angle (VTA) of the cartridge. It is a belt-driven design incorporating a driving ‘sub-platter’ mounted on a high quality oil-lubricated bearing, which is fixed directly to a medite (MDF) plinth supported by three simple rubber feet.A heavy

PR Music is a project of National Public Radio, an American privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organization, that launched in November 2007 to present public radio music programming and original editorial content for music discovery. The Tiny Desk is a unique space that presents your favorite artists like you’ve never heard them before. Since 2008, NPR Music welcomed beloved musicians from across genres — everyone from Adele to Chance The Rapper, from T-Pain to Yo-Yo Ma — to perform behind the desk of Bob Boilen, host of All Songs Considered and creator of the Tiny Desk concert series. Since the launch of the series, more than 900 performances have been recorded at Boilen’s festive workspace at NPR headquarters, which is adorned with years of music mementos and memorabilia. The new As much as the Tiny Desk is about celebrity, it’s also about discovery. So in 2014, they launched the Tiny Desk Contest: their nationwide search to find the next great undiscovered musician to come play a Tiny
Desk concert. Winners also go on tour with NPR Music, in partnership with NPR Member stations across the country. The previous winners have gone on to sign to major labels, perform across the world and even win Grammy awards. And while there is only one yearly grand prize winner, every artist who enters the Contest benefits from joining the Tiny Desk Contest community. Entrants are regularly featured on NPR Music’s All Songs Considered blog, at the stops on the Tiny Desk Contest On The Road tour and even sometimes in a Tiny Desk concert down the line. No matter what kind of music you make, NPR Music wants to hear it. System Lock Down! Corona pandemic - Nature having its way or a global warning? What does it all mean?
J
ust when you thought it was safe to go outside, the planet is experiencing a meltdown like no other as the Coronavirus sweeps the globe. As is the case with any new disease, the public health impact and implication is being accessed while it takes hold. Quite literally like a bat out of hell, the common theory of the disease is attributed to the mutated flu-like virus passed from bat to human in Wuhan China. More reason to outlaw so-called ‘wet markets’ where even wild animals are kept in cramped unsanitized conditions. More to the point, in the natural world, these animals would not cross paths which gives rise to the mutation of new viruses and microbes. Any potent new disease outbreak is a justified cause for alarm and concern due to the present

The current one also called COVID-19. Perhaps it’s time to pay closer attention to those sci-fi movie Subliminals and Hollywood disaster movies - you’d suppose experiencing our very own real-time disaster movie is what it takes to inspire some major changes to the world’s conservation program and social awareness. Bill Gates makes a compelling call for less money to be spent on military defense u and more for a defense against a pandemic.

It was founded by drum shop owner and drummer Jim Marshall, and is now based in Bletchley, UK Marshall’s guitar amplifiers are among the most recognised in the world. A Divine idea Improving the lives of cocoa farmers in West Africa.
A
n example of an innovative business model in the chocolate industry is the Divine Chocolate company. It’s a fairtrade company, which means they only buy cocoa from farmers who get a fair price for their goods. They have gone one step further than traditional fairtrade companies though. The Kuaopa Kokoo co-oporation cocoa farmers in Ghana who provide the cocoa, also coown the chocolate company with nearly 50% in shares. This way, parts of the profits made out of selling the chocolate bars flows back to the cocoa farmers. The company started to produce for the UK market, but by now they sell at several countries around the globe. Options This example shows that’s is perfectly doable to integrate farmer organisations into the value creation process, resulting in a sustainable business. Participating farmers benefit enormously from being part of the Kuapa Kokoo co-operation. They have

invested in developing farming communities and farming skills, with a focus on water, health, education and sanitation to improve standards of living. Kuapa Kokoo has also taken a lead on addressing child labour, and is piloting a number of environmental initiatives aimed at improving productivity and adapting to climate change. The Divine dividends have been invested in Kuapa Kokoo’s business, and enabled farmers to have a new machete for each year’s harvest. Large companies should replicate this kind of initiatives to keep the cocoa farmers in the business. It should also attract new farmers. This change in attitude is already happening. Big players Nestlé and Mars have started to shift to fairtrade chocolate as well. Divine Chocolate stated that in 2013 around 11% of the chocolate sold in the UK carries the Fairtrade label. A good beginning, but if we want to avoid farmers to massively run away from the cocoa business this is far from enough. If you really want to keep eating chocolate, you better pick your brand wisely!
