Roll on, the new year! Roll is the operative word given the punches that 2024 dealt, with seemly unrelenting force. If the Isreal and Palestine conflict isn’t enough, the energy crisis, and cost of living aftermath surely make for a very bitter pill to swallow.
Navigation
How then to navigate for new horizons that may suggest in any way that optimism be our north star? Political divide, social uncertainty, the migrant crisis, and asylum-seeking are just some of the bugs in our global system, not least an ever-widening gap between rich and poor. Needless to mention a perilous journey through a pandemic mind field only to finally emerge presented with new obstacles that have global challenges firmly inscribed. Almost as if a sleighing of the dragon is the end game.
My observations point towards what is cyclical in culture and nature. Expressions like global depression and winter of discontent are recognizable echoes. The kind that reveals an intriguing pattern appearing throughout our historical timeline.
North Star
Given the nature of peaks and troughs in life, are we to rest upon the very apparent truth that nothing stays the same? I refer to the silver lining in the cloud. I also reference passing clouds. These are not just token gestures invented by man designed
by
to distill grief and woe but real fluctuations presented in time. Here at fresheye we are most conscious of a full array of expressions. Much like an artist, we endeavor to reveal the unseen. Sometimes the requirement is to utilize all the colours within the palette. Much like a rainbow being a source of optimistic inspiration given its multi-coloured nature. Thereto I suggest a life without some trial be construed as half a life. Mature thinking appreciates that light is appreciated more when coupled with a knowledge of the dark. Diamond in the rough yet another analogy for a necessity for unevenness. So just like in nature, our life experience will undoubtedly see light and shade, highs and lows.
New application.
When it appears that we may be enduring more than a fair share of tribulation, I think it’s most important to impart connectivity. The kind that should be still present of mind, with consideration to the Christmas festivities just passed. The kind of connectivity that’s simply necessary to nourish humanity and be a healer for many ills including failing mental health.
Optimize your new 2023!
A connectivity too that inspires greater concentration on the things that we can control like our carbon footprint. To add - kindness, help in the community, sustainability, and charity. All the things that promote communal prosperity, and in turn shape a year-on-year experience for the betterment of people.

In 2022, Jacob & Co. partners with Comics powerhouse DC Comics to design an entirely new timepiece. Gotham City is a batman-themed watch that draws inspiration from Jacob Arabo’s personal taste and preferences. He is a fan of the Batman, just like Benjamin Arabov, Jacob & Co.’s CEO. This timepiece is the result of deep individual involvement and a symbol of what Batman represents. In the mind of creator Bob Kane, vertical and dark Gotham City is a stand-in for New York City, whence Jacob & Co. was created and operates.
The Gotham City is destined for a Jacob & Co. audience that also relates to his secret identity : that of a playboy billionaire, nonchalant and gifted with extremely good taste. The duality of the comic’s character invented by Bob Kane is furthered in the Gotham City. The Black DLC version of the Gotham City is edited as an 36-piece limited series.
The movement
Calibre JCFM10 features off-centered hours and minutes, a power reserve topping out at 48 hours and is regulated by twin, flying, sequential,
triple-axis tourbillons located at 5 and 7 o’clock. Its highly advanced technical nature is on par with the technological array of tools, devices, machines and equipment Batman has at his disposal.
This 382-component calibre is also part of a broader ambition. Much like everything that composes this timepiece, its design is a tribute to symbols and features of the Batman. The way the tourbillon cages are designed, the fact that they shift from gray to pitch black as they spin, the bat-shaped bridge that occupies the most part of the movement’s back, all carry meaning and participate in making this timepiece a part of the Dark Knight’s toolkit.
A metaphorical tool
Like the town it’s named after, Gotham City is an architectural construction. Its movement, its case, its layered structure are the result of a comprehensive and advanced design process. It goes beyond aesthetics to enter the realm of symbolism. Every part of the watch, be it visible or hidden, carries meaning. A symbolic capsule, it honors Batman and everything he stands for. https://jacobandco.com
The dial: That central surface, which is the most part of the Gotham City dial, is shaped like the Bat emblem. It’s been cut into a slab of solid onyx, a hard stone that’s perfectly pitch black, and polished. It’s been further outlined by a contour made of Neoralithe. This composite is colored in yellow, the Batman’s other color, and contains SuperLumiNova. It glows blue in the dark.
Together, these two attributes are a nod to the Batsignal: casting a shadow in the dark with the help of light, a further nod to the Batman’s ambiguous nature.
The titanium case has been entirely finished with techniques that make it matte. Sandblasting and horizontal-brushing suppress all traces of shine and polish.
Chanel might still be without a creative director, but the spring/summer 2025 catwalk show will always be a memorable one as it marks the house’s return to the Grand Palais after four years away. The landmark – which has served as the location for the brand’s catwalk shows for decades – recently underwent restoration, and reopened to huge fanfare as the house presented its latest collection. The in-house team made the most of the glass roof to represent the theme of the season – flying up in the air.
“The collection is a tribute to women who freed themselves from the cumbersome gaze of society, just like Gabrielle Chanel,” the brand said. “This flight is dedicated to them.” The team were inspired by the ideas of lightness and flight, taking cues from nature, but also from the house’s founder, Gabrielle, and her close friend Colette. Designs readdressed house codes through the eyes of the garçonne movement that marked the Roaring Twenties, but also the female pilots “who spoke out and helped change mentalities”. www.chanel.com
The Spring- Summer 2025
Ready-to-Wear collection marks CHANEL’s return to the Grand Palais.
Inspiration:
The house presented aviator jackets with Peter Pan collars, flight suits and uniform dresses to reflect, but there was also a lightness in the collection – chiffon capes and skirts, beautifully embroidered dresses and feathers everywhere. It was, the house said: “a choreographic ode to delicacy, lightness and movement”.
So begins a ballet of ethereal liberty. Chiffon capes, slit skirts, embroidered transparent shirt dresses, wide-cut and fluid trousers, sequinned and fringed jeans, trench coats with a multicoloured feathers print come together in a choreographic ode to delicacy, lightness and movement.
Setting: Of course, the setting was half the story of this season’s collection as Chanel returned to the Grand Palais after four years of renovations. Originally built for the 1900 Paris Exposition, the impressive cultural landmark eventually became Chanel’s catwalk home – it was the setting for Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris shows for 14 years, and continued into Virginie Viard’s tenure, before being forced to shut for restoration purposes. The venue is now back in business, thanks to Chanel, which contributed to the €30 million investment – and saw the spring/summer 2025 collection presented in the Nave of the building.
The story presented by the Creation Studio today is all about flying up in the air. At the centre of this cathedral of light, in the heart of the Nave, this gigantic aviary-esque space, a monumental birdcage has been placed as if by magic. One structure reflecting and echoing the other. The small cage hosting a couple of birds that was given to Gabrielle Chanel by one of her seamstresses and that has been reinterpreted in a famous commercial also comes to mind. The extraordinary dimensions of this décor-object, the grace of its lines, even the immense spacing of its bars, render it phantasmagorical. Chairs and benches have been set out to resemble a park or a garden. Here, we can breathe, we can dream.
Code: In revisiting the House codes – the suit and the little black dress, tweed and jersey, the quilted bag and the two-tone shoes – the Creation Studio presents a Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to- Wear collection in the colours of day, of night and the ever-changing sky...
Statement It is often said that fashion is the reflection of time, whether the clothing is a direct interruption of the current cultural climate or a call to the past for inspiration.
The collection is a tribute to women who freed themselves from the cumbersome gaze of society, just like Gabrielle Chanel.

We love you Liverpool we do, Oh Liverpool we love you’ - goes the football chant. Liverpool loves football. It has some partiality toward fashion too. In truth, it loves fashion so much, it has the annual Liverpool Fashion fest in tribute.
Music
The Beatles were the original boy band. For most international superstar sensations, fashion is an integral part of achieving success. The Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, realised this early on and cleaned up shop by plucking the Fab Four out of a dated world of ‘50’s leather jackets and greasy hair. When The Beatles took the world stage in the 1960s, they had a never-before-seen juxtaposition of smart suits and shaggy hair. The popular mop-top was just as much of a cultural revolution as the new pop-rock sound of the band itself. The delectable ‘do even reached illegal status in
communist Brezhnev Russia for its rebellious statement of dishevelled dapperness.

Sport
Steven Gerrard (former Liverpool FC star) is well known for his exploits on the pitch - but now he’s turned his attention elsewhere and has created a clothing range. The Liverpool FC legend has produced his first fashion range called SGG Apparel. The collection is inspired by his own signature style and the refined lad culture look synonymous with Liverpool menswear.

According to research conducted by Censuswide for Barnardo’s last year Brits were expected to spend £2.7 billion on fashion that will only be worn once. In addition WRAP UK, a charity fighting for sustainability, estimates that 350,000 tonnes of clothing ends with a value of £140million ends up in landfill in Britain each year. Sustainable fashion production in Merseyside is still in its early days with a small number of brands committed to reducing the environmental damage that fast fashion is having on the planet.

AI image generators utilize complex deep learning algorithms, specifically generative adversarial networks (GANs), that have been trained on massive datasets of images. By analyzing the visual patterns in millions of photos, an AI image generator learns how to replicate photographic qualities and seamlessly generate realistic new images.
What it is:
Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision.

AI requires a foundation of specialized hardware and software for writing and training machine learning algorithms.
No single programming language is synonymous with AI, but Python, R, Java, C++ and Julia have features popular with AI developers.
In general, AI systems work by ingesting large amounts of labeled training data, analyzing the data for correlations and patterns, and using these patterns to make predictions about future states.

Learning: The rules, which are called algorithms, provide computing devices with step-by-step instructions for how to complete a specific task.
Self-correction: This aspect of AI programming is designed to continually finetune algorithms and ensure they provide the most accurate results possible.
Creativity. This aspect of AI uses neural networks, rules-based systems, statistical methods and other AI techniques to generate new images, new text, new music and new ideas.
AI is important for its potential to change how we live, work and play. It has been effectively used in business to automate tasks done by humans, including customer service work, lead generation, fraud detection and quality control.
In a number of areas, AI can perform tasks much better than humans. Particularly when it comes to repetitive, detail-oriented tasks.
Because of the massive data sets AI can process, it can also give enterprises insights into their operations they might not have been aware of.
The rapidly expanding population of generative AI tools will be important in fields ranging from education and marketing to product design.
AI techniques have not only helped fuel an explosion in efficiency, but opened the door to entirely new business opportunities for some larger enterprises.

n an era of polarization, it’s always useful to examine where views overlap.
This year, FIN has heard conservativelibertarian people predict that the US government will eventually ban Bitcoin and cryptocurrency (because they distrust government and think that it will always seek to crush any threat to its power); and heard people on the left argue that government should ban crypto (because it’s used for nefarious purposes and it undermines monetary policy.)
Both sides, curiously, assume that the US government-or, presumably, the national government of any large democracy-has the power and authority to shut down an asset class now estimated to be worth some $3 trillion. This is a highly questionable assumption. There are a handful of countries that formally ban cryptocurrency, including Bangladesh, China, and Ecuador, but they are almost uniformly authoritarian nations with long histories of similar capital controls. Could a democracy actually pull off a crypto ban?
The forecast
In the US, there have been next to no formal proposals to ban crypto. The challenge is not
merely technological, but also political. A recent Pew Research Center poll found that 16% of American adults—approximately 32 million people—have used cryptocurrency in some form. To create a criminal class that large would be daunting.
For better or worse, capital controls have never been a consistent American policy approach. There are a few historical exceptions, the deepest and longest-lasting of which is the “Gold Prohibition” instituted by FDR a few days into his first term. As part of a wider attempt to get a hold of the Depression economy, FDR and Congress made it illegal for anyone in America to own gold in any financially meaningful way (tooth fillings, jewelry and works of art did not count).
Countries including India may pass legislation outlawing decentralized cryptocurrency as part of their efforts to roll out digital currencies run by their own central banks (the digital yuan experiment is well underway). But it’s an illusion to think that such legislation will actually get rid of cryptocurrency. In February, Nigeria banned its licensed banks from conducting crypto transactions. Within a few months, crypto transactions in the country tripled.

The BMW 328 Hommage was created on the occasion of the original model’s 75th birthday in 2011. In keeping with the original roadster’s lightweight philosophy.
Considered the most successful and best-looking sports car of the 1930s. The BMW 328’s success was the result of its design parameters - through the use of systematic lightweight construction, aerodynamic lines, optimum engine types and outstanding suspension technology.
Most major parts of the exterior and interior of the 328 Hommage are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), which BMW says is lighter but also more stable than aluminum.
Signature With these characteristics, the BMW 328 was even then the embodiment of what the BMW brand still stands for today –dynamics, aesthetics and a high level of innovation.
Aesthetic
The materials used inside include carbon fiber, leather and aluminum, all of which are purposely visible.
Built following the lightweight principles of its forebear and power comes via a 3.0 litre inline six cylinder. Classic BMW in all senses.

The E-Legend EL1 pays homage to the Audi Sport Quattro rally car, but its platform will likely see other Group B-inspired EVs in the future.
fresh eye eLegend
New note
E-Legend is a start-up developing a highperformance carbonfiber EV chassis that will be able to underpin multiple models, with the plan being that these will be inspired by rally racing’s most excitingand most dangerousGroup B era.
The goal of ELEGEND is to transfer analog primal instincts of emotional driving into the modern world.
New era
The EL1 makes use of a lightweight carbon monocoque to give it a weight of 1680kg. The body features three-way adjustable suspension and a bespoke spoiler while the interior will feature multimedia connectivity, aircon and a rearview camera.
The century sprint time for this EV Quattro tribute is claimed to take just 2.8 seconds. The charge to 200 km/h meanwhile will apparently take less than 10 seconds, with V-Max pegged at around 255 km/h.
Powered by three electric motors and featuring an 80kWh battery, the EL1 should have a 248-mile range. However, in Sport Plus mode it’ll only last two laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife before needing a recharge. 0-62mph will only take 2.8 seconds. The EL1’s carbonfibre chassis, suspension and electric powertrain have been engineered as an integral unit, explained Marcus Holzinger, E-Legend’s chairman and chief designer. This means that other bodywork can easily be integrated with it, the architecture being flexible enough to allow for slightly different wheelbases.
Design
In terms of the design aspect of the interior and exterior on the other hand, the concept renderings of the EL1 undoubtably carries more than its fair share of design cues from the Quattro that it is paying tribute to.
E-Legend has confirmed only 30 examples will be built. Two further rallyinspired EVs will follow in the future, both with the same 30 car production run.
Status
At a length of just 4.15 meters, the EL1 makes a confident appearance with powerful proportions. Its powerful, wide wheel arches, deeply cowering front end, low silhouette, and short overhangs create the perfect symbiosis of a clear focus on peak driving performance and sporty elegance.
EL1 prototype production has now started, and the first customer cars will be delivered at the end of 2023.
Understanding your beer the IPA way.
“
II hate IPAs. They’re bitter.”
“I love IPAs. They have so much alcohol in them.”
Those are the two most common things said about IPAs, and neither of them are really true. Not all IPAs are bitter, and not all IPAs have a ton of booze in them. You can’t throw a blanket statement over an extremely broad style of beer. It’s an unfair simplification. But whether you fall on the love or the hate (check yourself) side of this relationship, there’s one thing we can’t deny: IPAs are here to stay.
But what do you actually know about IPAs? IPAs come in a range of styles, and the modern approach to hoppy beer isn’t a declaration of bitterness, but a beer that explores the world of fruity flavors that can also come from hops. Here’s everything you need to know about the IPA, from vocabulary to style breakdowns to the breweries doing them right.
These are classification categories for IPAs. A “style” means that an ingredient in the brewing process or technique (or both) lends a certain flavor, mouthfeel, or appearance to the beer that is always true for the style.
IPA
while sailing to India, loaded up barrels of beer with hops, because hops were a preservative. The hops hung around in the beer for so long that they lost their fruity flavor and left a bitter tasting beer. So…British IPAs are malty, bitter, and onenoted. They aren’t the most popular style today, but it’s important to know one when you see it.
Pouring IPAs in a glass, instead of drinking them from a can, release all those lovely hop aromas.
