How travel
T
ravel is the one thing that makes you richer. Travelling around the world is exciting, inspiring and something I have been lucky enough to experience first-hand growing up. From Europe to Asia, Australia to America; they’re so many different cultures and countries to experience! However, my all-time favourite destination is beautiful Barbados. I first experienced this Caribbean paradise at the age of 10, and it left a lasting impression ever since. If you are looking for a destination with breath taking white sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters and a relaxed, friendly yet colourfully cultured atmosphere, then Barbados is the little gem you’ve been searching for. Barbados is known as the holiday destination for the rich and famous and the home of the renowned Sandy Lane Hotel and many other luxury resorts. However, this beautiful destination isn’t pretentious or super flashy like you may first think, in fact it’s the most down to earth, happy go lucky location I have had the pleasure of visiting, and is therefore perfect for

I stayed at Sugar Bay Barbados, a glorious hotel located on a tranquil bay in the heart of the island and only a short ride to historic Bridgetown. If you’d like to unwind and absorb the tropical surroundings then you can do so on the stunning beach, or enjoy lounging by one of the two pools with swim up bar. Also all your catering needs are met, as there’s four on-site restaurants to choose from, from cool beach bar vibes, to traditional Barbadian dining, exquisite Asian cuisine or hearty steak house suppers, it caters for your every food fancy, and of course you can ponder into the neighbouring surroundings for more restaurants and lively entertainment. If relaxing at the Karma Spa is too zen for you, then exhilarating water sports are also an option! Kayaking, boogie boarding and snorkelling are just a few you can experience whilst on the island. The Caribbean is known for its amazing sea life and if you’d like to see more of the Island and what it has to offer, there’s a variety of boat trips which give you the opportunity to swim with turtles – a must

do! Experiencing deep sea fishing or just the pleasure of enjoying the calm Caribbean waters and seeing the island from a different view point. They’re truly something for everyone. Barbados is vibrant, richly cultured, and a truly joyful environment. This theme runs throughout the whole island. A short walk from my hotel was the Barbados polo and racecourse stadium as well as the Barbados Museum, both interesting and historical places to visit. Also the ‘go to’ location of Oistins, for evening entertainment, food, music, dancing, crafts and the traditional easy breezy vibe is located only a short drive away. So that’s just a tiny snap shot into what Barbados has to offer, whether you’d like to get away from busy day to day life, have a sense of adventure waiting to be experienced or feel you’d love to add to your cultural knowledge and worldly experiences, then Barbados is the one stop destination for it all! It’s time to sit back, relax and experience Barbados!

American Activist Trump era brings a progressive renaissance.
T
he Democratic Party just had its Eric Cantor moment. In Tuesday’s New York Democratic primary, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old former Bernie Sanders organizer, knocked off incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley—the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Crowley was considered by many to be second in line to be speaker of the House if Democrats capture the chamber in the November elections. Crowley, who is chairman of the Queens Democratic Party, had never faced a serious primary challenge in any of his 10 previous elections. But Ocasio-Cortez picked up steam in the 14th Congressional District by channeling progressive dissatisfaction with New York’s Democratic establishment. She tied Crowley (not unfairly) to Wall Street and real estate interests and argued that it was time for the overwhelmingly nonwhite district to be represented by someone like her, a Puerto Rican from the Bronx. That was a theme of her viral campaign ad.
Progression Although Crowley was a reliable progressive vote in Congress, Ocasio-Cortez offered a platform that was substantially to the left. A member of the Democratic Socialists of America, she was one of the first congressional candidates to call for the abolition of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, better known as ICE. With her victory, Ocasio-Cortez is all but assured of becoming the youngest woman ever elected to the House, and she becomes the first Democratic primary challenger to knock off an incumbent member of Congress this year.

ashion brand Benetton has made some of the most provocative and overtly political ads of the past half-century. As the brand turns 53, however, it is moving away from shock tactics and entering a new “mature” phase, led by chief product and marketing officer John Mollanger. His aim is to bring product and social causes together. Since its inception in 1965, the Benetton brand has challenged social norms and championed issues that affect humanity; communicating this stance through images that shock, make people think and raise awareness for causes the brand believes in. They include famous print and poster ads by photographer Oliviero Toscani – one featuring three human hearts and another depicting a newborn baby still attached to the umbilical cord, for example.
and social issues are not mindfully adressed. The Benetton Group’s ethos is to combine business growth with social commitment, competitiveness, care for the environment and ethics, Mollanger added. “This is our DNA; it is not a fad, a trend or something that we woke up with yesterday. We have done this since day one.” Just as Benetton is striving to change its product marketing while maintaining its wider purpose, the same is true of its corporate reorganisation.
Forward These days consumer demand means that a ‘style over substance’ formula is quickly dismissed. A brand can loose traction in a competitive retail environment when ethical

Mindful when eating
M
indfulness is based on ancient religious philosophies such as Buddhism and Taoism, where their teachings encourage you to notice your surroundings and understand the environment in which you are in. The teachings also stress for you to understand the emotions that you feel at any particular time point. These concepts may be applied to you and your feelings towards food and how you feel at meal times. As you will see there’s a lot more to it than just feeling hungry.
Getting inside your mind while enjoying your food by Harry Fishpool. patisserie window. Choosing and prepping food. This component of mindful eating is knowing where your food has come from and treating it with due care and attention. This step starts by having a look at the packaging: has the food got air-miles? Is it free range/organic? Are the portions small or large? These quick steps help you make more informed choices when choosing your food, and you will soon appreciate the journey your food has taken (and all the people that have made that journey possible) to be with you in your shopping trolly, and soon to be on your plate. Being mindful when cooking encourages you to open up your senses and take note of what is happening in front of you. Observe
Recognising hunger. This first aspect of mindful eating takes time to come to get to grips with. It is simply becoming aware of your body, the huger sensations, and knowing when it is the right time to eat and what the right thing to eat is. Sometimes it’s best to think about the reasons why you’re hungry: whether your hungry because you’re used to snacking at this time, or if it’s simply just something to do. Am I hungry because I am genuinely hungry and I should eat, or am I hungry because that Danish pastry is screaming ‘eat me!’ from the

how your food is transforming as you cook: the exciting smells, the changing textures, the evolving colours. Take a moment to really appreciate what is happening as you cook, and as you develop a deeper understanding of this process, you will enjoy your cooking far more. Also, cooking is a time in which to slow down, and therefore, a time for you to slow down too. Even if your recipe is a 5 minute wonder job from Jamie Oliver, take your time about it. After all, it will still only take 5 minutes. Meal time. The most important factor in eating mindfully is – you guessed it – developing a certain mindfulness as you eat. It is also the easiest to start off with. For instance, setting down your cutlery after every bite and taking note of the flavours and textures as you chew; does it taste the same way as it smelt? Are the textures the same as when you started cooking? This is the time to build a healthy relationship with food. What are your emotions as you eat? Are they positive, negative or indifferent? Also, take note of the environment your eating in. When on your lunch break, are you in a busy café or have you found a quite secluded spot? It's important to make time to eat with others too. Humans are a social species and food has been a cornerstone of or civilisation for millennia. Eating with friends and family helps build
strong relationships and many argue that we are not doing it enough in our modern day society. Having an insight to how you feel as you eat can result in positive changes in the food choices you make and how, when and where you eat. As you’ve finished. Once you have finished your meal, it is really important to continue to listen to your body and understand what it is saying. This is the stage where you can avoid over eating. Ask yourself whether you are still hungry. Quite often we want to feel totally satiated (feeling full), but once have we reach that stage, we have often eaten too much. Knowing how you feel after a meal will help you control portion sizes and will help you to prevent binge snacking later in the day. Understanding your emotions around food and hunger will go a long way to improving your eating habits and help you build and achievable goals. These steps take time to learn and master. The best way is to take it one step at a time and don’t rush the process. Importantly, as you get better at understanding your emotions, you must also be mentally prepared if your feelings and emotions change down the line. Understanding and being honest with yourself will allow you to make suitable dietary changes that you will benefit from in the long run.

An outside and inside analysis by Dennis Sterne.

xterior and interior design encompass not only what the architectural structure looks like but the furniture, flooring, paint, and decorations suitable for outdoor or indoor use. The exterior design would include, for example, the design of your garden, deck, and patio, while interior design includes everything inside your home, from the bedrooms to the kitchen and bathrooms. You may observe this description of the design sensibility to be very obvious and transparent. However contemporary ideas often break tradition with the use of material and often have new concepts about the way space is conceived and perceived. For instance, in the new world design order, a kitchen can blend into a lounge without a clear wall divide.
Traditional gardens of stone and gravel now give way to steel and bright colour. In many cases, furniture that ordinarily appears to be for interior use is now employed for exterior spaces albeit that the materials used are for the purpose of withstanding the outdoor elements. A keen appreciation for the function of design is to observe that the human and human interaction is at the heart of the matter. Design beyond it’s function is essentially to enhance life and the sensory experience within. Touch, mood, and colour are only part of the consideration. Rhythm and maths, are a natural order of design ergonomics too. Just as we’ve discovered what proportions make an attractive face, mathematics shows up in the design of spaces. For instance, the number u
