Lumiere London - Tripping the light fantastic.
L
umiere London: the biggest-ever light festival to hit the capital. Produced by Artichoke and supported by the Mayor of London, for four evenings in January a host of international artists illuminated the city from 6:30pm to 10:30pm each night. Iconic architecture transformed with 3D projections, interactive installations and other extraordinary light works. A visual and sensual spectacular. The like that London had not seen before. Spread across four of London’s most exciting areas: King’s Cross; Mayfair; Piccadilly, Regent Street and St James’s; and Trafalgar Square and Westminster.
Artichoke first programmed Lumiere in Durham in 2009, where it has since returned every other year, attracting ever-growing audiences. In 2013 it also travelled to Derry~Londonderry where it was part of the finale to the UK City of Culture celebrations. Artichoke is passionate about the possibility of light and how it can transform urban environments. Normally home to advertising for the world’s biggest brands, for the first time one of the screens of Piccadilly’s iconic landmark Picadilly Lights featured digital art. While light installations use energy, every committed was made to minimising the impact employing energy efficiency.

Once upon a Classic Car...
hroughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it is the most successful racing team, holding the most constructors championships and having produced the highest number of winning drivers Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of speed, luxury and wealth The classic Ferrari red colour wasn’t the company’s choice. Today’s Ferraris come in colors ranging from bright yellow (Giallo Modena) to soft metallic grey (Grigio Alloy), but originally they were all red (Rosso Scuderia). That wasn’t Enzo Ferrari’s decision, however. Red was the color that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) assigned to all Italian Grand Prix racecars in the early years of auto racing. And most people still overwhelmingly choose red as the color for their Ferrari; the color represents 45 percent of Ferraris sold.
Licensing and merchndising Ferrari design team works on more than just automobiles. At its 30 outposts around the world, Ferrari rings up approximately $1.5 billion in worldwide retail sales every year. The shops stock Ferrari-logoed clothing, watches, sunglasses, shoes, mobile phone covers and of course, scale models of the cars. But be warned, prices are not cheap: Even a model of the Ferrari F14T at 1:8 scale will set you back a cool £3,664 Ferrari them park in Abu Dhabi Ferrari opened its first theme park, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, in 2010. Touted as the world’s largest indoor theme park, it boasts four “Thrill” rides, including the F1-inspired Formula Rossa rollercoaster—the fastest rollercoaster in the world at nearly 150 mph— as well as numerous other family attractions and rides just for kids. Licensed drivers over 21 can even sign up for the “Driving Experience,” a chance to drive the Ferrari California on the streets around Yas Island.
Enzo Ferrari, the famed driver who founded both the Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix motor racing team and automaker Ferrari S.p.A., was born in Modena in 1898.

Still fashionable A symbol of timeless sustainability. Karl Lagerfeld
A
true icon in the fashionable sense of the word. Karl Lagerfeld is the master of reinvention, having repeatedly transformed himself as well as his labels. He is currently the creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous label. He has previously designed for Chloe and created a range for H&M. Forget the past It is well documented that Karl Lagerfeld has no interest in the past - only the present and the future - but that doesn’t mean he is devoid of history. While giving a masterclass at the Hyères Festival this weekend, the Chanel creative director revealed that he has more books than most institutions. “If you go to my house, I’ll have you walk around the books, I ended up with a library of 300,000. It’s a lot for an individual.” On smart trend Kendall Jenner may be one of his models
of choice, but this time it is her older sister teaming up with Chanel’s main man, Karl Lagerfeld. The designer is the latest fashionable face to join Kim Kardashian’s smartphone game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, appearing in a virtual Parisian boutique, where he offers fashion advice and players can purchase animated versions of clothes and accessories from his eponymous label’s autumn/winter 2015 collection. The game, which has over 30 million active users to date, allows players to create animated characters of themselves to climb the social ranks of Hollywood, befriending the rich and famous along the way and all with Kim as your wingwoman. Chanel forever “I think I’m pretty lucky that I can do what I like best in perfect conditions. I don’t have to fight with anybody. You know my contracts with Fendi and Chanel are for life?” he revealed. “And I don’t feel tired at all. I hate slow people. Horrible.”
