Family ties - the health
F
amily and love are the two main components in life which are free but which are crucial to contentment and happiness. Loneliness is a huge problem in our modern times, which has a knock on effect on peoples’ health who are suffering. Social interconnection and love are so important as loneliness doesn’t discriminate, the elderly suffer when loved ones are no longer around, and younger people suffer when they don’t have the support they need. And that’s where family comes into the equation. The definition of family is one that seems to change with the times, but it usually includes a group of people who are related to each other and have lived together for some period of their lives. Like many social relationships, strong bonds with family members can have great benefits for individuals and society. Family also improves overall well-being as over many years, research consistently highlights that kids who grow up living with their biological, married parents have better overall well-being than kids who are living in a different scenario. However in the modern

times we live in, the ‘perfect’ family scenario doesn’t always exist. But it all really comes down to people spending quality time together and having security and an emotionally stable environment to live in. Stress is a huge factor in our day to day lives, and having family provides a sense of relief for

thy option many, as we know we aren’t alone. Family ties have been shown to provide stress relief by boosting self-esteem and lessening anxiety in many individuals. This strong bond can act as a sort of protective shield and offers a sense of belonging and security. Another aspect of family life which is important and beneficial, is family meal time. It can help contribute to a healthier diet and family lifestyle, as healthy food choices create a foundation that can last up to five years later for teens. Family members such as grandparents who may find themselves eating alone, are more likely to skip meals and eat foods with decreased nutritional values, so family meal-time is important in every generation. The benefits of family are vast and a recent review of research shows that family

interactions help prevents crime. It’s said that prisoners who are visited by family members have a 40 percent lower chance of becoming a repeat criminal than those who receive no family visits. Unconditionally supportive relationships in great times of need or change can help people get through difficult times more effectively. Those who have made bad choices or have been through tough times and continue to receive emotional support from family, maintain a sense of worth and have something in life to keep them motivated and focused, which can be a life line for some. Early family bonds are so important as they help regulate emotions, as children who experience healthy family relationships at a young age show more control and regulation of their emotions when they’re older. Healthy family bonds and relationships give people a sense of belonging and help keep everyone balanced in life. Family are there to enhance our lives in as many ways as possible.

perfectly cooked poached egg is a hard thing to beat. Served on hot toast with a crack of black pepper, it’s the best breakfast going. But while it can be a little tricky to get right, just a couple of fail-safe rules will get you making perfect, super-silky eggs in no time at all. For an unbeatable breakfast or brunch, serve your poached egg on grilled asparagus with shavings of Parmesan cheese and fresh mint sprinkled on top, or keep it simple on a buttery, toasted muffin. fresheye’s pounched egg on crumpet: While you will find many interpretations and methods of preparing the perfect pouched egg, we offer up our simple version.
1) Shallow tea cup filled to one third water. 2) Break egg carefully and deploy in the water. 3) Cover with saucer and microwave for 1 minute. 4) Serve on toasted crumpet, season with sea salt and ground black pepper. Drizzle toasted sesame oil. 4) Display on one small Ted Baker plate savour and enjoy. *Egg tip: You can tell whether an egg is fresh by cracking it on to a saucer. If the yolk stands up and the white isn’t watery, it’s as fresh as a daisy. The simplest way to store eggs is in the box you buy them in. Egg shells are porous and can absorb the odours of other foods so try to keep them away from anything strong-smelling, like fish.

ince 1913, Prada has been synonymous with cutting-edge style. Its intellectual universe combines concept, structure and image through codes that go beyond trends. Its fashion transcends products, translating conceptuality into a universe that has become a benchmark to those who dare to challenge conventions focusing on experimentation. What is considered beauty and what’s deemed questionable are deliberately mixed in an endless play of past, present and future in

Transcending trends Through an innovative approach, which draws inspiration from an unconventional analysis of society, Prada elaborates codes that transcend trends. Style statements born from the passionate examination of disciplines that are, at times, apparently far from fashion, such as art, film and photography, resulting into creations that reinterpret reality from unusual perspectives.

Note: It wasn’t until the eighties when Miuccia Prada, granddaughter of one of the founders, took creative control and expanded the brand to include signature nylon bags that Prada soared into high-fashion. By the nineties, the brand had added a ready-to-wear clothing collection and became a premium status symbol. Prada’s collections, which grew in the early nineties to include menswear and a diffusion line, Miu Miu, are marked by clean lines and modern streamlined silhouettes.

New upgrade BMW 8 Series Coupe Returns After Long Hiatus.
B
MW will reintroduce the 8-series coupe, the first new 8 series in 20 years, late this year with the 2019 M850i xDrive allwheel-drive variant. The latest 8 series features an oversized version of BMW’s dual kidney grille with adjustable slats and large air intakes at the corners. The LED headlights are the slimmest in BMW’s lineup. There’s also an optional carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof, and an optional carbon package that includes air intake bars, exterior mirror caps, a rear spoiler and a rear diffuser insert. It is powered by a new version of BMW’s TwinPower Turbo, 4.4-liter V-8 engine that generates 523 hp and 553 pound-feet of torque. BMW says 0-to-60 mph time is 3.6 seconds, with a top speed limited to 155 mph. A new aluminum alloy provides a stronger engine block, BMW said. The standard transmission is an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic, with shift paddles on the steering wheel that allow manual gear selection.
fresh eye
Integral Active Steering employs rear-wheel steering in the opposite direction from the front wheels, up to 2.5 degrees at low speeds, up to 45 mph, or up to 55 mph when “Sport” or “Sport Plus” driving modes are selected. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels. Head-up display is standard, which displays speed, plus speed limits, route guidance and turn instructions, as well as status indicators and any warnings from driver-assistance systems. The display also shows telephone and entertainment information. BMW Night Vision is optional. Statement “The 8 Series will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury car offering and will raise the benchmark in the segment,” explained BMW chairman Harald Krüger. “It will demonstrate that razor sharp dynamics and modern luxury car go hand-in-hand, in the process strengthening our claim to leadership in the class.”

In a statement, Robbie said playing with the doll promoted “confidence, curiosity and communication. I’m so honoured to take on this role that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children.” Robbie, 28, said she could not have imagine “better partners” than Warner Bros and Barbie creator Mattel. The film, which has yet to have a title, a director or a release date, marks the first collaboration between the two US companies. “Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.” said Toby Emmerich of Warner Bros. My love
of Europe ...
Paris in Jan My kickstart to the 2019 in Paris by Dennis Sterne.
P
aris is jolly in January. Well, it certainly is when invited to a press trip for two days all expenses paid. The answer to such invites it usually a resounding ‘Yes, please!’ The recent ‘yellow vest’ skirmishes deterred me none. I was champing at the bit for a little 5-star hotel action and cabaret by way of the legendary Bluebells. Five feet seven inches at least says the modern standard. If you are classically trained and outgrew the ballet then showgirl stardom is the new route for you. A nice gig too I’m told. Backstage during make-up a dancer highlights that some women have continued on past forty in the Bluebell history. The Bluebell brand continues to attract dancers wanting to belong to a romantic history that secures them some longevity as well as the artistc status that comes with dancing in one of Paris’s long-standing theatres. Le Lido is a cabaret and burlesque show located on the

Champs-Élysées, Paris. It opened in 1946 at 78 Avenue des Champs-Élysée and moved to its current location 116 Avenue des ChampsÉlysées in 1977. It is known for its exotic shows including dancers, singers, and other performers. Famous names have performed there including Edith Piaf. It’s always a privilege to see the workings backstage. Being up close and personal to the costumes and talking to performers really feels like you are experiencing palatable glamour. The dancers genuinely relish what they love doing night after night with their contemporaries that they refer to as a family. It dawned on me that these ladies really had arrived at a place where they someday hoped to be. What an enlightening reality for an artist born to express themselves. This was my first traditionally French cabaret experience. It delivered with energy, colour, and a contemporary lift. Semiclad dancing ladies, buff dancing men, one

mime/body popper and new tech projection light effects all lead toward an memorably entertaining even out. Couple this with dining during the show, it felt like a new take on going back in time. I learn that Le Lido is winning back Parisians as well as tourists in its quest to modernize the cabaret. Long may it reign. The morning after, last breakfast at Hotel De Berri was 10.30am. This meant a little lie in for me which I always welcome. Scrambled eggs and salmon happens to be my favourite breakfast, so why change a tradition. Some yogurt and fruit slices on the side followed by squeezed orange juice. Did it satisfy? Oh yes. Next on the itinerary, 11.45am - meet in the hotel reception where the fabulously french PR girls would whisk me off for a River Zein boat trip and lunch. By this time I’m beginning to feel very spoilt indeed so I ordered yet more salmon. Maybe I’m becoming predictable in my old age. It was a misty morning as the top third of The Eiffel Tower disappeared from view. Seeing Paris by the river is a spectacle. If you like your architectural history then it really is a cultural way forward in the experience. Next stop, back to des Champs-Élysée where I found Guerlain the perfumery. More classic french history and quite simply the biggest perfume shop I’ve ever seen. With so many assistants on hand, it’s easy to see why the heavy price tags. Suddenly duty-free or eBay seemed a more attractive shopping option. Just hoping no one could see my thought bubble. It was all over too soon when the 7.13pm return train beckoned. Long live Eurostar!

All Woman Becoming Michelle Obama - the journey.
I
n a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America the first African American to serve in that role - she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both
public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same. High notes: Michelle Obama is a meticulous planner. It is evident in her approach to her studies in high school and at Princeton. It is evident in the way she transitioned through jobs as a professional. And it is evident in the way she approached her role as First Lady. In Becoming, we get to know the constellation of Mrs. Obama’s extended family through her eyes. Her grandfather, Southside filled his house with music and makeshift speakers and merriment. Years later, Mrs. Obama would fill the White House with music and culture through live performances and several programs aimed at children. How do those kinds of early memories leave an imprint on us as we grow older? What were the sights and smells that you remember from visiting grandparents or other elders, and how have they left a mark on you?

Known simply as iPad Pro, the revamped 2018 model was unveiled at Apple’s iPad and Mac event last October alongside the new MacBook Air and Mac Mini. Apple’s iPad Pro replaced the discontinued 12.9in iPad Pro 2017 but sits alongside the 10.5in iPad Pro from the same year. Apple has made several changes to the iPad Pro formula for this model. Some of them are minor adjustments, such as a revamped Smart Keyboard and screen size changes; others are major, like the introduction of Face ID a new liquid retina display and an all-new design. Oh, and the headphone jack has now gone for good.
The tablet retains Apple’s Retina Display, as seen in the iPhone XR, which Apple promises brings “industry-leading colour accuracy” in addition to True Tone balancing and low light reflectivity. As previously mentioned, the iPad Pro 2018 comes in two sizes, 11in and 12.9in, although it should be noted that the screens aren’t actually these sizes. However, the near edgeto-edge technology means the screen is still massive. You’ll also be able to buy these new iPad Pros in two colours, silver and grey.
Design The iPad Pro 2018 looks noticeably different from previous iPads, with one notable omission is the removal of the Touch ID home button. It also features a reduced bezel, a more angular form factor, and a screen that stretches (almost) to the edges of the tablet. As with practically every iPad announcement, it’s also the thinnest iPad ever – measuring just 5.9mm in thickness.
Completely redesigned and packed with Apple’s most advanced technology.
