Small but Mighty Compact mirrorless - Sony RX-100 IV

I

f like me you’re fascinated with future photographic technology, then look at the Sony RX-100 IV. 20-megapixel stacked sensor, optical stabilisation. This camera represents a leader in team mirrorless (if there is such a thing). What it lacks in size is certainly made up in compact gadgetry that pleases. For all photographic situations this delightful and conveniently small compact camera packs a lot of tech in. Rather than get into geek review territory and spec I’d rather just state the bonus features on this camera that make it a go to piece of kit that will deal with those eventful photographic demands.

O Lens The Zeiss 24-70mm F1.8 - 2.8 zoom lens delivers versatility and quality that will always be a bonus from a compact camera.

Future mirrorless As expected from the future of mirrorless, this camera grants you a preview of what your image will look like in the view finder - given your manual settings, ahead of taking the shot. For photographers who love the view finder, that’s like having a great starter before the main course. Eliminating guess work is an aspect of technology that makes every sense to embrace. The ability to choose which button and dial for exposure operations is delightful.

O Video mode Yes compact cameras come with video but a quality lens and 4K capability means geater expectation here.

O Stop motion. The stop motion mode enables the capture of frame by frame action capture which primarily wasn’t a feature we’re used to seeing on small compact cameras. O Slow motion Once again a feature we are now seeing more over in smaller kit. This camera offers 960FPS: 40x slow motion.

O Panaramic mode Seamless stitching together of those scene tracking shots. O Articulated 3 inch LCD screen display Enables you to see what you’re getting without using those contortionist positions.

A date with the Prince The Royal Salute Coronation Cup

T

he Coronation Cup was first played for in 1911 to honour the coronation of King George V, grandfather to our current Queen. From then until 1939, it was traditionally played by the winners of the London Open Tournaments. Although a tournament was played to mark the Coronation of HM The Queen in 1953, it was then not played for again for a further 18 years. In 1971 Lord Patrick Beresford and American polo player, Michael Butler believed that there were sufficient English players to form a team of around 23 goals who might take on an American team of similar handicap and they played for the “mothballed” Coronation Cup. A year later the Coronation Cup moved to Guards Polo Club where a second game and a Best Playing Pony Prize was introduced. When the HPA created the Silver Jubilee Trophy in 1977, to commemorate The Queen’s 25 years on the throne, Prince Charles expressed an interest in playing. He went on to captain his

team in this match from 1977 - 1993. The format remains pretty much the same to this day and more than 10 different countries have sent their finest players to battle for this most historic of polo trophies. About Royal Salute Royal Salute is a careful blend of malt and grain whiskies - with its youngest blend matured for a minimum of 21 years. Created to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the 21 gun salute that honoured her, the brand is steeped in tradition and proud of its royal lineage, but is firmly engaged in the modern world by constantly pushing the art of blending into new, creative and ambitious forms. Royal Salute is deeply involved in polo - the world’s oldest surviving team sport and a game that’s expanding in the modern era. The brand sponsors more than 15 international tournaments from the UK and the USA through Argentina and China to Korea. www.royalsalute.com

Beverly Hills meets London Anastasia Soare at London Fashion Week A/W 2016

A

nastasia Beverly Hills is an American Dream brand. A story that starts in Romania. I had the pleasure of being Anastasia’s guide and personal photographer for two days for London’s Fashion Week.

The story “I grew up in Romania studying art and architecture. But as child, I had always wanted to come to America. I thought, that’s the only place I’d be free to express myself. In Romania, during the communist regime, we were very culturally suppressed. At 18 years old, I wasn’t allowed to wear bell-bottom jeans and eyeliner. I couldn’t understand why! When I finally came to the United States, I was forced to get a job right away. I spoke no English— none. I started working as an aesthetician in this beautiful boutique salon in Beverly Hills. Being an aesthetician didn’t require an elaborate vocabulary in English. My first

client was Cindy Crawford! I swear. I didn’t know even who she was, but she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. After Cindy, it was Naomi Campbell and then all the supermodels. I began asking them, ‘Do you want me to do your eyebrows, too?’ No one considered eyebrows back then! My boss refused to allow me to do clients’ eyebrows, so I decided to rent a room at a salon and start my own business. I have to do it. I came here to be relevant, to be significant, and I wanted to do more than I did in Romania. I worked seven days a week in the salon from 9am to 10pm every day. By ‘94, Vogue wrote the first article about this woman ‘Anastasia’ who does eyebrows—and, in the same issue, there was an article about Kevyn Aucoin’s book, Making Faces. He talked about eyebrows and how important they were. Everything exploded after that. By ‘96, I was so busy doing eyebrows, I couldn’t do anything else.

Mr & Mrs English Clements Ribeiro - The quintessential, artful, British fashion brand.

C

lements Ribeiro is the design partnership of Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro. The couple met at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art. Graduation, marriage and business followed in quick succession, the brand reflecting the strong synergy of their different backgrounds and personality. Suzanne is British, intuitive and dynamic; Inacio is Brazilian, articulate and introspective. Eclectic and feminine, the Clements Ribeiro style is a direct reflection of such a mix, subverting traditional fashion elements with wit and intelligence, their deceptively simple designs are both easy and unconventional. Colours, prints and materials are used in unexpected, innovative ways Rather than revelling in excess, their mix and match approach strikes a fine balance between eccentricity and elegance – the designers like calling it ‘studied imbalance’. Their ‘Bohemia’ has become a reference within British Fashion, their influence spread world wide. Having ‘discovered’ Scottish cashmere very early on, Suzanne and Inacio re-

introduced the noble and traditional fibre to a new generation. Treating the cashmere sweater as a t-shirt in striking irregular, multicoloured stripes, intarsia’s or embroideries, the designers started a revolution that saw cashmere turning into a wardrobe staple. The immediate success of their womenswear collections and shows in the late 90’s led to the launch of a menswear cashmere line, accessories and baby wear. In 2000 Clements Ribeiro revived the house of Cacharel in Paris where they were creative directors until 2007. The designers have collaborated with many artists including Julie Verhoeven, Peter Saville, Celia Birtwell and Petre Broner, as well as shoe maestros Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo. Clements Ribeiro have also been endorsed by many celebrities, including Adele, Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, Kristen Stewart, Demi Moore, Thandie Newton, Cameron Diaz, Eva Green, Cate Blanchett, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Jarvis Cocker, Tim Roth, Ewan McGregor and Michael Stipe. www.clementsribeiro.com
