T
he soft drinks sugar tax commences, but will it actually work? From April the sugar tax on soft drinks came into force in the UK. Which means that manufacturers have to pay a levy on the highsugar drinks they sell. Many believe, including ministers and campaigners, that is has already proven itself to be a success. As a result of many firms reducing sugar content ahead of the change. However, it could still be too early to judge the overall impact at this stage. Many leading soft drinks brands such as Fanta, Ribena and Lucozade have cut the sugar content within their drinks, however leading brand Coca-Cola has not and remains at 10.6g per 100ml, due to its popularity and its alternative reduced sugar options, Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Ribena has cut sugar from 10g to less than 4.5g per 100ml and Lucozade has cut its sugar content down even more from 13g to less than 4.5g per 100ml. The introduction of the sugar tax means the UK joins a handful of nations, such as Mexico, France and Norway, which have also introduced similar taxes. Statistics show that

the max daily sugar intake for 4 to 6-year- olds is only 5 cubes of sugar, 6 cubes of sugar for 7 to 10-year-olds and 7 cubes for 11-yearolds+. However sugary drinks on the markets including a typical energy drink (500ml) contains a huge 13 cubes of sugar! Cola (330ml) shortly follows with 9 cubes of sugar and juice pouches (200ml) containing 5 cubes of sugar. These figures putting into perspective the amount of sugar we may be consuming

nd the new Lite without realising. So there seems to be a reasonable health related reason behind the new implemented tax, but how will it work? The levy is applied to manufacturers, whether they pass it on to consumers or not is their decision. The concept is that drinks with more than 8g per 100ml will face a tax rate equivalent to 24p per litre. Those containing 5-8g of sugar per 100ml will face a slightly lower rate of tax, of 18p per litre. However pure fruit juice will be exempt as they do not carry added sugar, the same goes for drinks with a high milk content due to their calcium content. Originally, the Treasury forecast it would raise more than £500m a year, but that has been reduced to £240m because some manufacturers have reduced the sugar content in their products as a result of the sugar tax. In England the money is being invested into schools, sports and breakfast clubs. The jury is still out on whether it will work, Dr Daniel Bailey nutrition expert from the University of Bedfordshire, said that the levy is a “positive step” in tackling obesity and has led to a “notable” reaction by the soft drinks

industry, the response by consumers is still uncertain. The soft drinks increased tax will make the products more expensive, but will this really discourage people from buying them in the long run? Consumers may just end up buying the same amount of the drinks they enjoy, but pay more for a reduced sized bottle due to the higher sugar content. However; research by Mintel found just under half of British people say taxing unhealthy products would encourage them to cut back, therefore it could all be a positive step in reducing sugar intake. Consumer reactions to the new tax has been mixed, with many arguing that the government should not interfere in what they consider to be a personal choice, whereas others view the tax with less pessimism and consider the huge health benefits. The message has been heard by consumers and definitely by manufacturers as its estimated by the Treasury, based on market data that 50% of manufacturers have reduced the sugar content of their drinks. Which hopefully will result in a healthier society and less sugar related health problems for people in the future.
Health - Will a sugar tax work? Well, it did at Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurants. Researchers say the chef’s 10p levy on sugary drinks led to a significant drop in sales – boding well for the government’s sugar tax plan.

Health Benefits Of Sushi Other than the delicious taste, here are the top reasons why you shouldn’t miss eating this Japanese delicacy: l Lowers risk of heart diseases such as atherosclerosis and strokes l Ensures healthy hormonal balance l Reduces risk of cancer l Increases red blood cell count
Nutritional Profile Of Sushi The nutrition profile is diverse. Sushi rice is a great source of carbohydrates and has negligible fat. The seaweed wrapper nori is rich in iodine. Seafood is the main ingredient of the dish that contains omega-3 fatty acids and selenium in large quantities. Different types of fish added in the sushi contain different minerals and vitamins. The fruits and vegetables (avocado, cucumber, etc.) used in sushi also add to its benefits. The accompaniments, ginger and wasabi, contain antioxidant compounds, as well as vitamins and minerals. Soy sauce, which is a delicious dip for the sushi roll, contains very high levels of sodium, so use it sparingly. Additional cream and sauces like mayonnaise will add to the calories. So, control your cravings while enjoying the sushi.
Types Of Sushi l Nigiri: This type of sushi has slices of fresh raw fish or meat placed over pressed rice. It is seasoned with wasabi and soy sauce. l Maki: Maki is a sushi roll comprising one or more fish and vegetables in rice wrapped with roasted nori seaweed. l Temaki: This sushi is prepared in the same way as maki but is rolled in a cone shape for a better appearance and grip. l Uramaki: This is a very interesting roll, made inside out, where the nori covers the fillings and the sushi rice is used to wrap the nori. An outer coating is also done with toasted sesame seeds and other ingredients, all of which add a distinct flavor to the sushi. l Sashimi: In this, the slices of raw fish are presented without rice, generally served on julienned daikon radish.

Freedom to invest Investment joins a simplistic approuch.
A
simply remarkable investment strategist and tenacious mind. Warren Buffett is the definition of investment and the freedom that comes with it. Now eighty-seven years old, it was at a young eleven when Buffett bought his first stock. Such a young investor should give insight into how - thinking for yourself is so instrumental in making things happen for the sake of progression. A modest mind too in that he recognizes opportunity, luck, and circumstance had a big part to play in his extraordinary investment success. Buffett does stress that his appetite for knowledge and reading weighs heavy on his abilities. He became acutely aware of how the American banking system works which certainly aided his understanding of financial mechanics. Early Life Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He developed an interest in business and investing in his youth, eventually entering the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1947 before transferring and graduating from University of Nebraska at the age of 19. He went on to graduate from Columbia Business School,
where he molded his investment philosophy around the concept of value investing that was pioneered by Benjamin Graham. He is considered one of the most successful investors in the world and has a net worth of US$87.5 billion as of February 17, 2018, making him the third wealthiest person in the United States and in the world. Eccentricity He is noted for his adherence to value investing and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth, he drives his own car and often eats at McDonald’s. Buffett is a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He founded The Giving Pledge in 2009 with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, whereby billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their fortunes. He is also actively contributing to political causes, having endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential election; he has publicly opposed the policies, actions, and statements of the current U.S. president-elect, Donald Trump.

ur current progressive time is, without doubt, impacting on the psyche like never before. While the left and far left are supposedly responsible for the political correctness and social progression, let’s take heart in all the positive elements that transpire. Not least how we perceive gender and the behavioral interaction that ensues. The Me Too Movement followed soon after the public revelations of the sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein. Such a revelation increased the sound of an alarm that Hollywood certainly isn’t the only industry where people as a whole need to be mindful of the way we interact with one another. fresheye’s introspective take on gender at least is there is a difference between female and male. It’s the difference that
should be appreciated and celebrated. And difference being a point of modern reference for acknowledgment that equality applies as a matter of course. Landmark This year marks 100 years since women were first given the vote. Even then it was only partially - they had to be over 30 and meet certain property qualifications. fresheye’ explores femininity via some familiar faces. Aside from fame, celebrity and notoriety, looking at what it is to be a woman thankfully takes on many guises. What we aspire to be can come from within as well as from the external. Oprah said, “Excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism.” At fresheye’ we think this idea is a great point of reference for being a modern progressive.

Wine region Let’s talk about wine at The Lemon Tree by Dennis Sterne.
I
t’s always engaging to talk to Luke Fishpool -not least about his new wine list. I caught up with Luke - Head chef and owner of The Lemon Tree, on what really felt like the first day of summer. An occasion that deemed perfect to discuss new things amongst what brings inspiration to freshen up a menu. The updated wine menu to be precise. As well as being mindful of complimenting dishes, it transpires that a restaurant’s choice is also influenced by what a supplier is supplying to other local restaurants. It pays to be aware of cross over thus gaining an essence of individualism and exclusivity. Spring/summer is Luke’s favourite time of year. He recently visited the Champagne region in the north of France. As a fan of Champagne myself, it’s great to see that a traveled palate brings news from abroad to a conversation.

Chateau Colin produces some 90,000 bottles a year and 20,000,000 bottles of it’s more commercial product. Big numbers and little surprise considering that Champagne is only so if it comes from the Champagne region. I ask whether the sale of Champagne is affected by Cava and the growing European demand for Prosecco of which Britain is the largest consumer. Luke says that the distinction remains that Champagne has the ‘special occasion’ stamp which sets it apart. Special occasion keeping the Champagne party alive and well. Wine supplier Brian Wilkes - owner of Wilkes & Co has been The Lemon Tree’s supplier for a while. Luke finds that they have been consistent with a refined selection coupled with a passion for information expertise on wine. Sauvignon Blanc

Cherries and a touch of rhubarb on the nose are followed by a palate of delicious vanilla laden fruit. www.thelemontree.co.uk Sugar Health and well-being is a topic that will take more column space this year in fresheye. I open up the discussion toward sugar content in food. Luke notes that ready meals and processed foods have utilized sugar as a preservative and flavour enhancer. The excessive use of salt too for the same reason. No revelation then that freshly prepared quality produce has little need to use sugar and salt excessively. Certainly when it comes to savory dishes Luke says. Of course, we expect to find sugar in the dessert menu - it’s a given. Charity The Lemon Tree is a faithful supporter and partner of Grove Cottage. Apple is currently working on an iCar, an electric vehicle, which is undergoing research and development process and for which a number of Apple employees are engaged. Apple has also hired engineers from BlackBerry to work on the autonomous car OS project in Canada. The reports suggest that the iCar would look similar to a minivan and the production of the car will soon begin in 2020. The company has also invested around 10 billion dollars on research and development. In the letter, he stated that there should not be many rules and regulation of the self-driving vehicles and new entrants should be treated equally like other established manufacturers. Steve Kenner also said that in order to have a more comprehensive and to improve the systems, companies should share data from crashes and near-misses instead of one company sharing the data. He said, “address privacy challenges associated with the collection, use, and sharing of automated vehicle data”. The Financial Times also reported that Apple is planning to buy McLaren in order to improve its iCar project as McLaren’s Applied Technologies Group supplies electronics from Formula One to NASCAR and therefore, it would be ideal for Apple’s self-driving electric car project. signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with a South Korean battery manufacturer for cylindrical lithium-ion batteries. These lithium-ion batteries are expected to be used on the new Apple’s driverless car. As of now the Apple iCar is under development and is said to be first showcased in 2019 and will go on sale in 2020-21. The Apple iCar’s future competitors will not be other car manufacturers, but companies like Google. The reports by MacRumours, also suggests that Apple has already started buying a number of domains, especially for its electric car including apple.car, apple.cars and apple.auto. However, it is still unclear whether the company bought domain names for its iCar or Apple’s in-car system, CarPlay. With the available details, it’s clear that Apple’s debut in the mobility domain is going to be disruptive and will change the way mobility is approached. Together with Tesla, Apple will force conventional carmakers to rethink their business model as customers will have access to shorter product lifecycles and customisable interiors.

With the BeoLink Multiroom technology you can connect your Bang & Olufsen and B&O PLAY products in one seamless wireless system. With a simple tap on top of BeoSound 2 you automatically start or join the music experience. You can either play different music in different rooms or let the same sound flow throughout your home. You can even use your Bang & Olufsen TV in the setup - sending the sound of the TV to other rooms or use the TVs speaker to listen to music. Immerse yourself completely in the 360 degrees of sound. The sound you will experience is spherical, powerful and precise - no matter where the speaker is placed, and no matter where you are placed.
Place it anywhere The conical shape gives you countless of placement options. The actual footprint of the speaker is minimal, which allows you to put it wherever you need your sound to be. Unplug it once in a while, and move it around your home as you see fit.

Beck at Brown’s Capturing the spontaneity of Mayfair.
M
ichelin starred chef Heinz Beck has announced he will return to London this month with his much anticipated new restaurant Beck at Brown’s, launching on Monday 16th April. Opening in the heart of Mayfair at the iconic Brown’s hotel, the restaurant, freshly redesigned by Olga Polizzi, will offer a brand-new casual dining menu of classic Italian dishes, reinvented using the finest seasonal British ingredients, uniting Heinz’s inimitable style with the hotel’s British heritage and careful balance of classic elegance and contemporary flair. Beck at Brown’s comes to Mayfair on the heels of Beck’s hugely successful takeover of the space last December as part of the hotel’s celebration of Italian conviviality where he took up residence alongside drinks maestro Salvatore Calabrese. The restaurant will have, at its epicentre, Heinz’s Italian pedigree, refined over his years running kitchens in Rome, in the lauded La Pergola and Attimi, his recently opened more casual outpost. With a focus on a light, healthy menu featuring the highest quality produce, with Norfolk chicken and lamb from the organic Rhug estate.
