Just one touch is eno

T

ouch is one of the 5 main human senses which connects us to our surroundings and the world we live in. Hugging is one of the simplest forms of this; a close warm embrace which brings two people together and shows a caring quality, it’s a form of communication which doesn’t involve a single word. Also as humans, when we are born we are placed in our mothers arms, this is because touch creates a bond, and it’s one of the first ways we are all introduced into the world. The power of touch also has healing benefits, in the form of massage therapy. This technique has a long history and is used in cultures all around the world. It dates back thousands of years, references to it appear in writings from ancient China, India, Japan, Arabic nations, Egypt, Greece and Rome! It’s a treatment which aims to relax, revive and heal the body. Using manual hands-on movements and manipulation of the soft tissues and muscles in the body, massage therapy works to promote healing and enhance a person’s overall well-being.

by Sophie Fitzjohn.

Massage is no longer thought of as a luxury and only available to those who can afford it. Treatment is available for anyone, whether for relaxation purposes, for sports recovery or for pain relief. It’s a method which has been tried and tested throughout the centuries and continues to develop and achieve health benefits, all through the power of touch!

The power of touch is universal, and used as a way of expression all around the world. For example, the traditional Māori greeting. This action, the hongi, is performed by two people pressing their noses together; some include, at the same time, the touching of foreheads. The greeting is used at traditional meetings among Māori people and also at major ceremonies, it

can also be followed by a handshake. Touch is a form of communication, acknowledgement and connection. It builds bonds and reflects expression, and also contributes to the overall well-being of humans globally, who’d of thought the simplest of acts could achieve all that!

Quote - Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts. Charles Dickens.

ushi rice is a great source of carbohydrates and has negligible fat. The seaweed wrapper nori is rich in iodine. Seafood, the main ingredient of the dish contains omega-3 fatty acids and selenium in large quantities. The fruits and vegetables (avocado, cucumber, etc.) used in sushi also add to its benefits.

Health Benefits Of Sushi Other than the delicious taste, here are the top reasons why you shouldn’t miss eating this Japanese delicacy: l Lowers risk of heart diseases such as atherosclerosis and strokes l Ensures healthy hormonal balance l Reduces risk of cancer l Increases red blood cell count

Nutritional Profile Of Sushi The nutrition profile is diverse. Sushi rice is a great source of carbohydrates and has negligible fat. The seaweed wrapper nori is rich in iodine. Seafood is the main ingredient of the dish that contains omega-3 fatty acids and selenium in large quantities. Different types of fish added in the sushi contain different minerals and vitamins. The fruits and vegetables (avocado, cucumber, etc.) used in sushi also add to its benefits. The accompaniments, ginger and wasabi, contain antioxidant compounds, as well as vitamins and minerals. Soy sauce, which is a delicious dip for the sushi roll, contains very high levels of sodium, so use it sparingly. Additional cream and sauces like mayonnaise will add to the calories. So, control your cravings while enjoying the sushi.

Types Of Sushi l Nigiri: This type of sushi has slices of fresh raw fish or meat placed over pressed rice. It is seasoned with wasabi and soy sauce. l Maki: Maki is a sushi roll comprising one or more fish and vegetables in rice wrapped with roasted nori seaweed. l Temaki: This sushi is prepared in the same way as maki but is rolled in a cone shape for a better appearance and grip. l Uramaki: This is a very interesting roll, made inside out, where the nori covers the fillings and the sushi rice is used to wrap the nori. An outer coating is also done with toasted sesame seeds and other ingredients, all of which add a distinct flavor to the sushi. l Sashimi: In this, the slices of raw fish are presented without rice, generally served on julienned daikon radish.

A new time and face Pete Buttigeig - The embodiment of a new age.

P

ete belongs to the generation that came of age with school shootings, the generation that provided the majority of the troops in the conflicts after 9/11, the generation that is on the business end of climate change, and the generation that—unless we take action—stands to be the first to be worse off economically than their parents. Pete is laying out a vision, values, and policies to ensure that America’s future is better than its past. “We need to secure a future in which every American has the freedom to live a life of their choosing; where our republic grows more and not less democratic; where racial justice is a reality and not a dream; where we’ve put an end to endless war; where we’ve summoned the national will to meet the challenge of climate change; where everyone has the health care they need; and where everyone has the chance to find purpose and belonging in our economy and our country.” Substance Pete is in his eighth and final year as Mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Pete was first elected mayor

fresh eye

in 2011 at only 29 years old and re-elected in 2015 with 80 percent of the vote. Under his leadership, South Bend has reimagined its role in the global economy, spurring job growth and major investment in advanced industries such as data and technology. At the same time, Pete emphasized building a South Bend community where every resident—regardless of race, religion, gender, or orientation—could feel safe and included. Pete has more years of government experience than the president, more years of executive government experience than the vice president, and more military experience than anybody to walk into the Oval Office since President George H. W. Bush. Pete served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve and took an unpaid seven-month leave during his mayoral term to deploy to Afghanistan. For his counterterrorism work, he earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal. A Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and a graduate of Harvard University, Pete lives with his husband Chasten in the same South Bend neighborhood where he grew up, with their two rescue dogs, Truman and Buddy.

Luxury in motion

T

he visionary research vehicle is born, a vehicle which raises comfort and luxury to a new level by offering a maximum of space and a lounge character on the inside. Every facet of the F 015 Luxury in Motion is the utmost reflection of the Mercedes way of interpreting the terms “modern luxury”, emotion and intelligence. This innovative four-seater is a forerunner of a mobility revolution, and this is immediately apparent from its futuristic appearance. Sensuousness and clarity, the core elements of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy, combine to create a unique, progressive aesthetic appeal.

scenario that incorporates many different aspects of day-to-day mobility. Above and beyond its mobility function, this scenario perceives the motor car as a private retreat that additionally offers an important added value for society at large. “Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society,” emphasises Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space.”

A luxury lounge. Sensual, flowing transitions and warm, organic materials such as open-pore walnut wood, which has been shaped to a three-dimensional veneer, and extremely soft ice-white nappa leather contrast with clearly-defined metal and glass surfaces with a cool and technical feel. The transitions between organic, metal and synthetic materials have been designed using matrix graphics; and the flowing transitions deliver a new, unparalleled feeling of bounteous space. The lightcoloured fine wood used for the floor, for example, flows almost imperceptibly into the cool Plexiglass of the side panels thanks to their unusual surface matrix.

Mobility revolution. Quality time. The “City of the Future 2030+” vision: urbanisation has continued to advance, and the little urban space there is today is scarcer than ever. In an urban environment where space is at a premium and everything happens at a hectic pace, people have a growing desire for privacy and a place to retreat to. Autonomous driving is taken for granted – it is accepted by society and the technology is perfectly reliable. As the autonomous car takes over from the driver in situations where driving isn’t much fun, such as slow-moving traffic, it gives real added quality to time spent out on the road. The interior as a digital living space. One core theme of the innovative interior concept is a continuous exchange of information between vehicle, passengers and the outside world. Six displays are installed to this end all around, tastefully mounted in the instrument panel and the rear and side walls, making the interior of the F 015 Luxury in Motion a digital living space – a perfect symbiosis of the virtual and the real world. Passengers are able to interact intuitively with the connected vehicle by means of gestures or by touching the high-resolution screens.

Drone Aid

Launched in Rwanda in October 2016, Zipline has been making lifesaving deliveries every day. Dozens of hospitals and health facilities now rely on Zipline’s vital service to improve patient care. The drones now cover the country, giving doctors instant access to critical medical products, like blood and vaccines, that were previously out of reach.

Go go Zipline! Rwanda rises from its ashes via drone technology.

Z

ipline International is an American medical product delivery company headquartered in Half Moon Bay, California, that designs, builds, and operates small drone aircraft. The company operates two distribution centers in Rwanda and has a contract in place to operate another four in Ghana. Zipline’s mission is to provide every human on Earth with instant access to vital medical supplies. Today, too many people are underserved by last century’s limited solutions: trucks, trains, and washed-out roads. Zipline leap-frogs these outdated solutions with a cost-effective drone delivery network, revolutionizing access to healthcare.

It’s Electric Zipline packages the order, then launches it into flight. Racing along at over 100 km/h, vital products arrive faster than any other mode of transport. The drones fly without a pilot and are battery-powered, reducing the cost and emissions of moving medicine. Closer to Patients The drones fly over remote mountains, rivers, and washed-out roads. They require no local infrastructure to serve communities. Within 30 minutes, medical supplies are delivered from the sky by parachute. Recipients don’t interact with the drone itself.

A Tap Away Doctors place orders on-demand through a simple app for any medicine they need, when they need it. Medical products are stored centrally at Zipline’s distribution centers and are flown quickly to any destination. This maintains cold-chain and product integrity, while eliminating waste.

A Dependable Solution The drones only land at Zipline’s distribution center, where Zipline operators quickly prepare them for their next flight. They’ve refined the process to support hundreds of deliveries per day, per distribution center, in all weather conditions. Beck at Brown’s Capturing the spontaneity of Mayfair.

M

ichelin starred chef Heinz Beck has announced he will return to London this month with his much anticipated new restaurant Beck at Brown’s, launching on Monday 16th April. Opening in the heart of Mayfair at the iconic Brown’s hotel, the restaurant, freshly redesigned by Olga Polizzi, will offer a brand-new casual dining menu of classic Italian dishes, reinvented using the finest seasonal British ingredients, uniting Heinz’s inimitable style with the hotel’s British heritage and careful balance of classic elegance and contemporary flair. Beck at Brown’s comes to Mayfair on the heels of Beck’s hugely successful takeover of the space last December as part of the hotel’s celebration of Italian conviviality where he took up residence alongside drinks maestro Salvatore Calabrese. The restaurant will have, at its epicentre, Heinz’s Italian pedigree, refined over his years running kitchens in Rome, in the lauded La Pergola and Attimi, his recently opened more casual outpost. With a focus on a light, healthy menu featuring the highest quality produce, with Norfolk chicken and lamb from the organic Rhug estate.
