A time for reflection
W
ho would have thought that our lives would be turned upside down and restricted so much this time 6 months ago. Very few of us I would say. The outbreak of the current pandemic has changed everyone’s way of life all around the world, as a result has given us a lot more time on our hands and a moments to reflect. Not everyone has the luxury of staying at home with family, catching up on box sets, baking or just having some down time; many health care professionals, organisations and people who work in supermarkets, public services and many more are on the front line, risking their lives and their families health to try and help, prevent, and manage this pandemic. We also have to think of the truly heart breaking losses many people are dealing with at this time. It’s a new situation and circumstance for us all, as the coronavirus pandemic seemed to come out of nowhere; however, this type of outbreak had been predicted… so why was the whole world so unprepared? For years, Bill gates has been warning us

about the risk of a deadly pandemic, much like the one we are facing right now, and raised the alarm that even then, in 2015, our societies weren’t prepared to handle it; as one particular area of focus, needed to be on increasing work on vaccine development. Gates told CBS News from the 2017 World Economic Forum in Switzerland, that the impact of a huge epidemic, such as a flu epidemic, would be phenomenal because all the supply chains would break down, panic would set in, and that many of our systems

Sophie says..... would be overloaded. His prediction wasn’t far off, but still no one thought it would actually materialise into our now reality; although many systems have been put in place to reduce such historic impact. Bill gates has been working on global health issues for many years through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and he recently pledged $100 million to help combat coronavirus. When times get tough, the tough get going! If any positive can come out of the pandemic, I think the first thing people worldwide will say is that our sense of solidarity has shone bright. It’s a time of compassion and compromise, with the hope that life will sooner or later return to normal. This isn’t just nationally, but internationally, as it’s a worldwide effort to beat this virus. However will the pandemic reshape the world as we know it, regarding power, equality and nationalism? Covid-19 has intensified the rivalry between the US and China – but it has also strengthened international cooperation. However the question is how will the pandemic influence the future behaviour of nation states, governments and leaders? Will it be a case of them working more closely together, or will this shared trauma continue to divide them? It’s been said that Covid-19 will create a world that is less open, less prosperous and less free, however is that the case? As we stand, the answer is, only time will tell. The

response from everybody, from presidents and prime ministers to ordinary citizens and the development of the pandemic itself will help determine what happens. After huge errors, China’s government is working hard to turn Covid-19, first detected in Wuhan in November 2019, into a national success story. It reports severe measures to suppress the disease have largely been successful. And as a result, is now offering assistance to countries such as Italy, and other badly affected areas; China is reinforcing its credentials as a global leader, which in turn has become a power tool to overtake its superpower rivals, the USA. In contrast, the US and Donald Trump are struggling to dispel a widespread perception of major incompetence. It has placed its own citizens in unnecessary danger, whilst sidelining itself from being a global crisis leader. China’s challenging towards the US leadership was already strengthening on many fronts before the pandemic erupted. Due to this the pandemic may accelerate this shift further. For US-allied democracies that value open governance, civil rights and free speech, this is a worry prospect. It’s an uncertain time regarding health and wealth, nevertheless the main focus at this moment in time is to manage our way through this crisis, whether relations with the two biggest countries in the world falter or prosper as a result is yet to be seen.
“The pandemic is a powerful reminder of two things: the shared challenges of our global village, and the deep inequalities we must grapple with to fight them.” David Miliband, International Rescue Committee.

ushi rice is a great source of carbohydrates and has negligible fat. The seaweed wrapper nori is rich in iodine. Seafood, the main ingredient of the dish contains omega-3 fatty acids and selenium in large quantities. The fruits and vegetables (avocado, cucumber, etc.) used in sushi also add to its benefits.
Health Benefits Of Sushi Other than the delicious taste, here are the top reasons why you shouldn’t miss eating this Japanese delicacy: l Lowers risk of heart diseases such as atherosclerosis and strokes l Ensures healthy hormonal balance l Reduces risk of cancer l Increases red blood cell count
Nutritional Profile Of Sushi The nutrition profile is diverse. Sushi rice is a great source of carbohydrates and has negligible fat. The seaweed wrapper nori is rich in iodine. Seafood is the main ingredient of the dish that contains omega-3 fatty acids and selenium in large quantities. Different types of fish added in the sushi contain different minerals and vitamins. The fruits and vegetables (avocado, cucumber, etc.) used in sushi also add to its benefits. The accompaniments, ginger and wasabi, contain antioxidant compounds, as well as vitamins and minerals. Soy sauce, which is a delicious dip for the sushi roll, contains very high levels of sodium, so use it sparingly. Additional cream and sauces like mayonnaise will add to the calories. So, control your cravings while enjoying the sushi.
Types Of Sushi l Nigiri: This type of sushi has slices of fresh raw fish or meat placed over pressed rice. It is seasoned with wasabi and soy sauce. l Maki: Maki is a sushi roll comprising one or more fish and vegetables in rice wrapped with roasted nori seaweed. l Temaki: This sushi is prepared in the same way as maki but is rolled in a cone shape for a better appearance and grip. l Uramaki: This is a very interesting roll, made inside out, where the nori covers the fillings and the sushi rice is used to wrap the nori. An outer coating is also done with toasted sesame seeds and other ingredients, all of which add a distinct flavor to the sushi. l Sashimi: In this, the slices of raw fish are presented without rice, generally served on julienned daikon radish.

A Master Mind
Claimed by atheists, but really an agnostic.
N
eil DeGrasse Tyson was born in Manhattan, New York and grew up across the bridge in Brooklyn, New York. He’s another example of the scientific prodigy, giving formal lectures on astronomy at the age of 15. As one of the world’s most famous astrophysicists, Tyson is regularly asked about his religious views. He jokes about this, saying the question and answer portion of his lectures always follows a certain pattern: questions about the lecture, questions about “sexy” astrophysics concepts like black holes and quasars, and then questions about God. Tyson is a scientist and has called himself an agnostic. If he were to believe in God, Tyson says it wouldn’t be the loving God described by the big three monotheistic religions. Political Science Tyson is experienced in dealing with politics and politicians, having worked for various governmental scientific organizations. He’s been appointed to government commissions on the future of the aerospace and NASA8 Politics for him is all about how it applies to science. He is

disappointed by the decline of NASA and the abandonment of the James Webb space telescope in the U.S., saying: ‘It’s not that you (the government) don’t have enough money, it’s that the distribution of money that you’re spending is warped in some way, that you are removing the only thing that gives people something to dream about (for the metaphorical) tomorrow.’ In other words, the U.S. government’s priorities are out of whack. ‘When asked if Democrats or Republicans are better for science funding, he surprised a crowd by answering that it’s actually Republicans and that if Republicans are bad for science, it’s only in terms of issues relating to fundamentalist Christian values–like how pro-lifers are against stem cell research. Tyson chalks this up to the fact that: Knowing that innovations in science and technology are the engines of economic growth, as they have been since the Industrial Revolution (and knowing that)… there is a truth–that no Republican wants to die poor.’ So, in short, Republicans will fund science because they know it’s money in the bank.

h BMW has taken the covers off a new plug-in hybrid supercar concept that could serve as a successor to the iconic M1 supercar. The concept, dubbed the Vision M Next, is a mid-engined sports model that bears a striking resemblance to the old M1, a six-cylinder supercar built between 1978 and 1981, Autocar reports. While the motoring magazine claims the Vision M Next will form the basis of a new M1, others believe the concept will instead act as a preview to the next-generation i8 hybrid sports car. The vision in concept. The Vision M Next has several elements of BMW’s iconic sports cars, including the M1 Procar racer from the 1980s and the sleek i8 hybrid from 2014. But the Vision M Next isn’t just a homage to BMW’s performance cars. The ultra-thin head and tail lights, as well as the large carbon fibre diffuser at the rear,

are new design cues that don’t appear on any other model in the company’s range. Most of BMW’s recent concept cars have focused purely on all-electric powertrains, but the Vision M Next is an exception. The concept is powered by a mid-mounted supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which is capable of launching the car from 0-62mph in just three seconds. Production timeline. There’s no word on whether the Vision M Next will materialise into a production model, but BMW’s concept cars traditionally make their way into showrooms at some point.

Designed for sensory performance. Adrian van Hooydonk says the M Next concept provides a glimpse into the future of sporty driving. Alongside the Boost+ mode, the Vision M Next also features the brand’s Ease autonomous technology, which allows the vehicle to ‘assume the task of driving’. The Vision M Next uses technology on-board to assist driving pleasure. The ‘Ease’ and ‘Boost’ technologies were first used in the Vision iNext concept from 2018.

Figures released promise power and speed - maximum output of 600 horsepower provides 62 mph acceleration in three seconds as well as an electric range of 62 miles. Drive technology. The M Next project maybe purely conceptual at this stage, yet the team have powered the car with a hybrid PHEV drive – an electric motor at both the front and rear axle – enabling pure-electric rearwheel drive and electric all-wheel drive. The added four-cylinder petrol engine then sends power directly to the rear wheels.

Contemporary vehicle aesthetic and vision. With its focus firmly on the driver, the M Next design continues the contemporary BMW sports car theme and is closely based on the i8 with its low, wedge-shaped silhouette and gullwing doors. The face is a modern interpretation of the marque’s classic kidney grille and the car debuts innovative Laser Wire light technology for a distinctive light design. Large air intakes and a front spoiler made from recycled carbon add to the racing-car aesthetic, as do the color codes: a matt-neon orange at front and rear contrast boldly against the silk-matt silver metallic paintwork. BMW is rooted in performance and it is about the thrill and the emotion of driving.

The Balmain influence by fresheye
liver Rousteing joined Balmain as Creative Director in 2011 age 24. Talented creative youth and the power of Instagram seemingly the catalyst for the re-emergence of a French fashion brand ready in waiting for a kickstart into our digital age of new clients thirsting for luxury fashion. There are moments in fashion when a collection or a trend movement make their mark. Call it a fashion moment if you will. Such a time came in the Fall 2014 Balmain collection. ‘It changed my life’ - said Rousteing. ‘I call that collection Africa.’ It’s plain to see the primal and ethnic influence in the collection. What stands out though is the imperial nature of the influence entwined masterfully with the DNA of Balmain. The balance hit with mesmerizing perfection. What came next was a continuation of the ethnic influence and a collaboration with H&M in 2015 producing a remarkable striking
high street version of the new handwriting. More to Rousteing’s fashion elbow was an awareness that fashion still had a way to go in recognizing and embracing diversity. Hence his birth of The Balmain Army. In a time when a lack of diversity still plagues the fashion industry, Rousteing consciously disrupts this cycle, casting a diverse group of women for his catwalks and advertising campaigns. You can see why so many feel honored to be part of the French designer’s girl gang. But the Balmain Army is more than a troop of gorgeous faces in embellished pantsuits, it’s a collective of forward-thinking influencers who represent today’s modern woman—intelligent, sophisticated, and incredibly powerful. ‘Personalities are important. You talk to women who have power... they’re not just models, they’re defending my clothes and my ideas, and that’s why we started the Balmain Army.’ www.balmain.com

t’s easy to assume that the latest fad in an app came from nowhere much like a thief in the night. This concept anticipates the disappearance of car keys and key cards, as well as legislation which could one day gradually enforce car sharing on all private vehicles.

Ecosystem: The vast majority of cars will eventually be electric. But if they are to play a crucial role in the energy transition, zero-emission vehicles must not be an end in themselves: they are and will increasingly be built into an intelligent electric ecosystem, the smart city. As on Porto Santo island, where batteries are at the heart of its shared energy network. We’ve spent a long time working on how to maximise the second life of batteries, and with MORPHOZ we’re demonstrating even smarter thinking in how to exploit them, which is to say, by generalised sharing.

Aim: The primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos we call Songs Around The World. Quote: Playing For Change, that’s the way music was meant to be. Keith Richards, The Rolling Stones.

Playing for Change Re-imagine a world connected by music.
P
laying For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The Story In 2005, Mark Johnson was walking in Santa Monica, California, when he heard the voice of Roger Ridley singing “Stand By Me.” Roger had so much soul and conviction in his voice, and Mark approached him about performing “Stand By Me” as a Song Around the World. Roger agreed, and when Mark returned with recording equipment and cameras he asked Roger, “With a voice like yours, why are you singing on the streets?” Roger replied, “Man I’m in the Joy business, I come out to be with the people.” Ever since that day the Playing For Change crew has traveled the world recording and filming musicians, creating Songs Around the World, and building a global family. Creating Songs Around the World inspired us to unite many of the greatest musicians we met throughout our journey and form the Playing For Change Band. These musicians come from many different countries and
cultures, but through music they speak the same language.Songs Around The World The PFC Band is now touring the world and spreading the message of love and hope to audiences everywhere. The Band Creating the videos motivated the movement to form the Playing For Change Band - a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey, and establish the Playing For Change Foundation - a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. ‘Through these efforts we aim to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.’

iPhone 12 When is it coming out?
R
eports suggest that production of the iPhone 12 is looking at delays of at least a month, which would push us into an October shipping date (we’ve been here before with the iPhone X in 2017) and maybe beyond. Note that this kind of delay is expected to push back the onsale date, but may not affect the date of the announcement - if you recall, Apple unveiled the iPhone X in September and then made us wait to buy it. Sources familiar with the company report that Apple is currently holding internal discussions about a possible delay of several months, which could easily push the iPhone 12’s release back into 2021. In both cases the culprit, as with so many delays and cancellations at the moment, is COVID-19. It played havoc with Apple’s Asian supply chain in the early days of the outbreak - in February DigiTimes (via MacRumors) reported that the company had to halt engineer visits to China - and Apple’s headquarters is now located in one of the more densely affected areas of the US. The company’s local public health body implemented a mandatory order against public gatherings as early as the start of March.

An iPhone with up to four camera lenses on the rear. This is madness, surely... Although it does fit the square housing rather neatly.
