First English Building Wealth from Within Cohort Enters Final Weeks

The first English-speaking group of the new Montbello Organizing Committee (MOC) Building Wealth from Within (BWFW) initiative is winding down. The intent of BWFW is to provide business employment and ownership opportunities for residents, combat gentrification, and create pathways to sustain generational wealth. The latest group of participants is diverse in their business aspirations and plans for the future. Individuals participating in the program and their business focus include: •Pamela Toney: Toxin-free, environmentally friendly candles and body care. •Essance Brown: Clothing for women over 5’11’’ •Ron Taylor: Gift Shop •April Trimble: Child-care •Margaret Casarez: Affordable grocery store •Andrea Williams: Soul food •Veronica Tinoco: Mold Remediation •Bushenga AaronALi: Arts Activation Mindfulness Co-op that facilitates peaceful experiences through authentic expression •Malebo Marutle: Health and Wellness

Based on feedback from the first group of BWFW participants, the class structure was modified to include two in-person sessions weekly for 12 weeks. Mondays are dedicated to learning the material from the curriculum. Wednesdays are reserved for guest speakers and as a computer lab day for participants to work on their business plans with the support of the facilitators. The current cohort is being supported by facilitators Andy Figueroa and Rodney Bates.

The group will complete their business plans the first week of December and present to the community during the graduation ceremony on December 10th at the Montbello Recreational Center. Denver Santa Claus Shop Ready to Bring Smiles to Families this Holiday Season

The Denver Santa Claus Shop (DSCS) is proud to continue its service of collecting toys and giving families the opportunity to shop for free gifts at a time of year that focuses on the importance of community. DSCS’s mission is “A Toy for Every Girl & Boy” each holiday season – no matter what. Celebrating 92 YEARS of providing free toys to children in need, our all-volunteer-run nonprofit has served more than one million local children since we began in 1931. We set up a giant toy shop each year, where families arrive ready to “shop” for that special gift. Parents can certainly come alone, but sometimes the kids get to tag along and pick out the toy that catches their eye. This year, we expect to serve nearly 15,000 Denver-area children.

As we have for so many years, the Denver Santa Claus Shop appreciates all the support we receive from the generous people throughout Colorado and the local businesses that believe in what we do. Since 2015, Larry H. Miller Dealerships have collected toys in their showrooms to support our cause.
