Barrera International Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection Preview

Author:!Kim Clerkley Photography: Elizabeth Sostizzo

J

uan Jimenez, designer for Barrera International, once again has created a stunning and alluring fashion collection. Jimenez debuted his 2014 preview collection for Barrera International at the Space Gallery in Denver, Colorado in September of 2013. The presence of art, architecture, and high couture were consistent throughout the entire show. The designs encompassed textiles such as silk, blended wools, and cotton; all of which added to the impeccable design and tailoring of each piece within the show. Barrera International’s 2014 preview presentation was fun, sexy, and futuristic. The collection was a fashion success within itself, but one must take notice of the exceptional hair, make-up, and overall venue that simply added to the presence of the show. DenVhere Magazine is in love with the Juan Jimenez 2014 preview collection. The most noted looks were a long-sleeve, soft pewter, lavender silk blouse paired with a glitzy black and silver sequined straight-lined skirt, showcased with a pair of 5 inch velvet lace up wedges. Further standout looks included a chic and shimmery emerald long-sleeve, knee-length gown, accented with strappy black heels. We can’t forget about the guys! We also discovered Barrera International’s take on the wool jacket for men. The men’s wool jacket looked classic, pragmatic, and stylish. We loved the way the ensemble was constructed. The pairing of the tan cotton shirt with a silver vertical embellishment in the center is genius, as it allows the color pallet to pop. Finally, we also took delight in Juan Jimenez’s ensemble. The designer himself fashioned a polished grey and purple checkered suit, combined with a contrasting grey dress shirt and bright purple tie.

he Wine, Women & Shoes event benefitting the Child Advocates – Denver CASA was a wildly fun and very important event. The CASA organization works to make life better for children who are often bounced around from foster home to foster home.

The CASA organization works to place volunteers in the lives of children in need of stability in their lives, while helping them to find permanent homes. Please take a moment to visit the CASA website and donate to this great organization as it really makes a true difference in young children, which helps benefit society as a whole: http://denvercasa.org/. The Wine, Women and Shoes fashion show was held at the Four Season’s hotel in Denver, Colorado. The runway featured collections from the following boutiques: Alicia Boutique, Hailee Grace Boutique, Rebel Contemporary Casual Clothing, Blush Boutique, A Line Boutique, Lisa Macky, Susie O’s John Fluevog Shoes, and Bloom Jewelry. The overall collections were very urban, hip, and trendy with mixing of separates, like bright colored mini-skirts paired with leggings and leather jackets. The clothing was a combination of flowing, contemporary, edgy to classy day dresses and high-end fabric metallic evening separate's. The shoes were hot and varied from an array of blinded encrusted shoes, strappy stilettos, boots, and casual wear. Additionally, the wine, desserts, and accessories made for a very fun and decadent event. The atmosphere was lively, inviting, sexy, and for a great cause. Photographer Elizabeth Sostizzo did a remarkable job capturing the event.

P

APARAZZI POSH was founded by Miami TV Personality Natalie Renee. Through her extensive career in the Entertainment Industry, she developed a passion for glamorous style and fashion. Being a TV Personality meant always having to be up to date on those styles. So, she decided to create a company that provides the hottest celebrity fashions, at an affordable price. Each item is inspired by a celebrity and includes a photo to compare the two styles. With PAPARAZZI POSH, you will feel like a Hollywood star, on a better budget! “When it comes to the hottest fashion in the celebrity world, I am your expert!”- Natalie Renee About Natalie Renee: She spent much of her time attending celebrity events, red carpets, fashion shows, award shows, movie premieres, music concerts, galas and charities interviewing the top celebrities. Dresses From The Website!

Natalie Rene is a self-taught designer, a wife, mother, actress, and TV Personality who is very down-to-earth. I was so impressed with her ambition, success, and humbleness that we had to ask what advice she would offer to those hoping to pursue their dreams and her answers were very inspiring. DenVhere: What inspired your current collection and where do you see yourself going in the next year within Paparazzi Posh? Natalie: “I wanted to make beautiful clothing that was celebrityinspired but accessible to everyone. I took inspiration from celebrities, but also family and fashion in general. Fashion is always changing; it’s never the same. With my clothing, you will get unique, beautiful, glamorous garments that have a Hollywood-feel, but on a real world budget. I see brand extension of swimwear. I think there is a need for more swimwear and especially in Colorado there isn't much but I hope to change that.”

Q&A With Natalie!

Denvhere: Finally, what is a fun fact about you? Natalie: "I love to cook and I make everything from scratch, and I once signed autographs at Comic-Con, that was a really fun event.”

olorado Fashion week 2013 featured amazing local designers whose creations ranged from luxurious evening gowns, laid-back indie clothing, and simply unique, creative looks. This year marked the third anniversary and most successful Colorado Fashion Week to date; with sold out shows of over 15,000 fashion fans in attendance. Colorado Fashion Week has achieved a defining moment as an event and for founder Justice Kwesi Kwarteng. His mission has been actualized in establishing Colorado as a sustainable fashion market with a thriving network of partnerships and economic powerhouse of designers, salons, and fashion related commerce businesses such as textile and manufacturing facilities thorough out the state. Colorado Fashion Week is a time to celebrate the designers as entrepreneurs, but also a chance to combine the local businesses that help sponsor and contribute to the event as well. The one thing that is truly unique about Colorado Fashion Week is the individual take on what fashion can be for everyone. Colorado Fashion is in a league of its own, simply because every designer is different and presents a different take on style, creativity, and beauty which makes the show so fun and one that everyone can enjoy and relate to.

DenVhere Fashion Show 2013

Author: Christina Waheed Photography: Penny Lane Photography

T

he Annual DenVhere Magazine Fashion Show was a huge, successful, and fun event! Not only were there clothing designers to showcase their work, but jewelry makers and hair/make-up artists, too! This collaboration of artists was unique, not to mention so was the venue. At this year's fashion show, DenVhere chose a wide variety of Denver designers to feature, including: Infatué, MarsBling, Jayme’s Touch, Maggie Burns, and Gabriela Designs! The show featured everything from day-time wear, to wedding dresses, lingerie, and even plus-size clothing! Hair and make-up was done by the outrageously talented Ted’s Hair Studio (click on the photos to zoom in and see for yourself). Models not only rocked the runway, but they rocked out on the runway thanks to DJ Johnson for his mad DJ skills. This time around, the show was held inside the Chateaux at Fox Meadows in Broomfield, Colorado! This venue is dreamy, modern, and classy. It is normally waitlisted for weddings, but the DenVhere team was able to snag it up for an evening of dazzling, fancy fun! First Class Fashionista’s Lonza Dennis even said, “The Chateaux reminded me of The Great Gatspy .” Each year, DenVhere asks for a small donation at the door to give to local charities. This year, we asked attendees to donate $5 to the American Red Cross for the flood victims of Colorado.

Lingerie

omen are living in a time that to be sexy, confident, and comfortable can sometimes be a little difficult. One occasion that we, as women find it difficult to feel sexy, confident, and comfortable with ourselves is when it comes time to either buying or putting on lingerie. When it comes to lingerie, (buying and trying on) the process can be not only difficult to navigate but also frustrating. Some women might not have this issue, but to those who do, this is for you! I have found a few tips and tricks that can help any woman put some lingerie on their body and feel sexy, confident, and comfortable. Tip number one: Buy lingerie For YOU. I am sure that every woman has thought or asked, “What’s the point if my boyfriend/girlfriend doesn’t even notice?” My response to that is buy lingerie for you, not for anyone else. Buy lingerie that makes you feel good. To branch off of this idea, also buy lingerie for your body. When picking out lingerie, it’s important to consider what feels and looks better for your body. If you have love handles that have some extra love, don’t pick a G-string that could cut into them. Try a full-body piece that shows off your chest, butt, legs, and makes those love handles look like sexy curves. Tip number two: Match your bra and panties! Not only does matching make you feel pretty, but it also is a time and money saver. My recommendation is to get a basic bra and match your panties around it. A simple example of this includes the use of a black bra; black goes with everything! This black bra trick allows you to have fun with the lower portion such as experimenting with lace or patterns. With this trick, I also recommend choosing a color that complements your skin since there is not much embellishment like you would find on other lingerie pieces; like corsets or with leggings or garter belts. Tip number three: Believe in yourself! At the end of the day, if you know you look good, that's all that matters. Doubting yourself only brings the emotion of insecurity across that nobody finds attractive. Again, make sure you choose lingerie that you understand and that you would feel comfortable in. If you are in a store or dressing room and are thinking, “Where the hell does this go?” or, “Is that supposed to be showing?” it probably means that this particular lingerie is not meant for you. Lingerie shopping is hard and stressful, but it's always nice to bring a friend or two to make it fun!

Feeling Sexy Is A choice!

2013 Look Back & This Issue Editor-In-Chief: Georgez Dabit Photography: Elizabeth Sostizzo

2

Are Those My Teeth?

013 has been such a crazy, stressful journey. So many different moods, changes, and fashion flops. I found myself paying close attention to baseball caps which, for me, is quite the change; since those hats are typically not my style. One of my biggest fashion and self-esteem accomplishments of 2013 was that I finally fixed the gap in my teeth! My dear friend Dr. Kai from Stamm Dental did quite the job on my teeth. I wasn't in the mood to have braces since there are limitations to what you can and can't eat, and let's face it, with these curves, I can't give up food! Dr. Kai and I discussed resin bonding and it seemed like the best choice for me. This issue was so fun since it was an issue based on me! My contributors thought it would be fun to present our readers with "The Editor's Issue." My contributors are so amazing and without them, DenVhere wouldn't be what it is today!

Fun Fact

While shooting the cover & editorials of this issue, my photographer Elizabeth told me to be more candid with the camera and less "sexy." I have been told many times by photographers that I'm being "too sexy" with the camera. I shot a campaign for my school months back ,that they planned to use for their billboard and I received the photos along with an email that said "Sorry, we couldn't use your photos." The Photographers at the shoot told me that my photos probably would not be used because I looked "too sexy." When I hear the comments "you're being too sexy", I become a bit dumbfounded. Although most people might take that as a compliment, I saw it as a flaw. I had started modeling at the age of 15 years old and from what I taught myself and learned from the business, being sexy on the runway or in editorials was very lucrative so having to change my signature "Georgez Face" as my friends would say and mock, would change my image and turn me into something I'm not. One thing I always tell models is to use their flaws and try to build off them because from being "too sexy" on camera, I can also show a different side to my image and so can any other models struggling with their flaws. Elizabeth captured a beautiful picture of me being candid, smiling and showing off my teeth that Dr. Kai gave me. Although 2013 was such a rough year for many reasons, fashion and DenVhere are the two things keeping my spirits high! I want to thank everyone who has been a part of my life and helped me through this journey we call life.
