AnnaFesta: Designer for Curvy Women
A
s a curvy woman, fashion designer Anne Fanganello
wrestled with the obstacles most women face today when shopping for clothing, which include never finding the right fit, never enough options, poor quality, and frumpy design. After years of designing for the skinny crowd, Anne decided it was time to expand her hoizons and dedicate her life to creating clothing for today’s real women. Armed with nearly 20 years experience designing for brands like Nanette Lapore, Zac Posen, and Cynthia Steffe in NYC, she moved back to her roots in Denver, Colorado to start her own ‘curvy’ clothing brand. ‘AnnaFesta’ was born to provide a collection for women who want to feel confident and sexy in superbly fitting, curve-enhancing, fashion-forward clothing.

"Our goal is to make the body look two inches taller and two inches thinner," says Fanganello."Placement of seams is all focused on enhancing the bust and derriere, and detracting from the belly. The final design is meant to draw the eye up and in. In the world of AnnaFesta, our adage is love your body!"

RACHEL MARIE HURST One BRAVE Designer!
everal years ago, in a rustic country barn, a new fashion designer was born. As the oldest of four children, growing up in Topeka, Kansas, Rachel credits her single mom, a teacher, for instilling a strong work ethic in her that has proven to be the corner stone of her career. When a childhood dream to become a doctor made a sudden shift after two years of college at Colorado University Boulder, Rachel knew that fashion was where her heart wanted to be and right behind her was her biggest fan, her mother. It’s not easy telling your family and friends that you’re trading in scrubs for couture. The decision was clear to her after she and a college friend formed a fashion group on campus and produced their first fashion show. Since then, hundreds of fashion shows have followed. They first started in malls, hotels, night clubs, and now show off their designs during New York Fashion Week. Currently, her company Fashion House of Rae Marie, LLC is knee-deep in custom bridal orders, expanding into boutiques like Goldyn, and continuing to build her online presence at Rachelmariehurst.com. Goldie Mae Productions asked Rachel to share a few of her observations along her journey to help our model readers better understand the business from a designer’s view. GM What’s currently inspiring your designs? RMH My customer is constantly my inspiration; what is she doing? where is she going? who does she love? Right now, we are in the “pop world” of fashion and that excites me. I can’t say too much until we launch our next collection! GM
When you’re booking models for your show, is there anything specific you are looking for?
RMH I am looking for a girl that represents my brand and customer. Is she a confident walker? A blank canvas? Does she fit my sample size (it is a business and much cheaper to make smaller samples)? Do I enjoy her personality? Does she meet the height requirement and is she fierce? These are things I look for when hiring a model. GM
If you could advise models on what not to do in the fashion industry, what would you say?
RMH The biggest problem I run into with models is lack of professionalism by not showing up prepared and not knowing who they are walking for. Being pretty is not enough; your personality plays a huge role to getting hired. Also, knowing your angles, how to walk and fitting the sample sizes are all a part of getting hired. Keeping your skin clear and your health in check is important.

A Quick Style Guide with Paparazzi Posh
P
rior to launching Paparazzi Posh, Natalie Renee was an accomplished CBS Entertainment Journalist who covered several red carpet events throughout her career, including movie premieres, fashion, and music events. Natalie’s previous experience allowed her to get close to celebrities wearing the most sought-after fashions. In her own words Natalie says: “I recognized that the average woman was not able to achieve the same looks within her dayto-day budget, thus Paparazzi Posh was created with the average woman in mind, enabling her to achieve the same fashions that celebrities are wearing on the red carpet but at an affordable price. Having perfected the art of dressing for any occasion, which is reflected in the Paparazzi Posh line, the line has a lot of range. It’s glamorous, but don’t let that place a limitation on where and how you can wear Paparazzi Posh! “Ladies, you can wear Paparazzi Posh to work by simply pairing a beautiful blazer with the dress and accent with heels. Being precise and particular is a crucial key to styling (small details makes all the difference in the world). I like to apply my finesse in all aspects of my life to pursue a happy and successful journey. When selecting a dress, confidence is important, don’t be afraid to experiment with color and fabrics. Above all, don’t just think you're beautiful, know you are!”- Natalie Renee

ndy INK has made a name for themselves by staying grounded in their community by following their dreams. Aaron Cohrs, Eric Fuller, and Dave Roggeman founded Indy INK over eleven years ago. Since that time, Indy INK has continued to grow through screen printing, cutting-edge art, and fashion. Indy INK has achieved success all while continuing to serve as a platform for up-and-coming designers and artists in Colorado. DenVhere Magazine sat down with the dynamic trio to discuss fashion, life, and the evolution of Indy INK.
Indy INK began with T-shirt designs and a custom screen print concept that offered a faster project turnaround time than other companies. Aaron Cohrs opened the interview with “We started with T-shirt press designs that were unique and different from anything on the market. We were young, in college and before we had the store, we sold our designs in coffee shops, connecting with fellow artists.” Roggeman notes, “Community is something that we are very proud of and has been the key to our overall success. Our sucess brings us great pleasure because we get to work with local artists and designers. The store allows up-and-coming artists, designers, or brands a place to showcase their work. We wanted to provide an environment that allowed artists a chance to grow, and not be taken advantage of. We recognized that the larger corporation mainstream sector is not artist-friendly; so we felt it was important to empower artists by enabling them to have a fair chance to succeed within a creative place that has strong ties to the Denver community.” DenVhere Magazine asked Indy INK to reflect on the journey from their earlier days to today: DenVhere-Did you have any obstacles that you faced, and if so, based on those experiences, what advice would you give to anyone out there trying to achieve their dreams? Dave Roggeman: “Obstacles are inevitable, I would say it took longer than we wanted to at times, but we kept going. My advice to anyone is to just keep going and don’t worry about forcing success, just be organic and allow things to naturally happen.” Aaron Chors: “The other part of the journey was learning to let other people do other things, while defying the norm. For us, it’s always been about pushing the limits and coming out of our comfort zones. We incorporated newer designs that we just were not seeing on the market, stuff that no one else was doing.” Eric Fuller: “Also tapping into one’s self-expression and taking risk, and not placing any limitations on ourselves was very important. My advice to others is to just surround yourself with the right people. You don’t need experience, just get out and do it, just push yourself to go out and figure it out.” DenVhere- What do you want people to take away from Indy INK? Dave Roggeman: “Stay true to yourself. Don’t allow trends to overtake who you are. Take risks, but be real. Never try to be anything you’re not. We all have our own style and here at Indy INK, we allow people to be themselves while having individual self-expression.” Aaron Chors: “Don’t settle, keep evolving. Try new things, and in time, you will figure out what works for you. My advice for the novice individual is to take that first chance; we provide style consultations for the more timid, so if you’re not sure, just come on in to the store.” Eric Fuller: “We have so many great artists and designers who have their brands and works of art within the store from Benefiel Design to Golden Denim; I am wearing Golden Denim pants, a Rook shirt, Nike Roshe with an Iris Piercing. We don’t place too much emphasis on trends and have never worried about what others think. Indy INK is the place for anyone who desires to be authentic, fashionable, and comfortable.” A Quick Feature on Sneaks: “It was all a dream,” says owner, Marlo Proctor, as he rethinks the early days of how Sneaks came to be. An interest and drive that became a lifestyle led myself and Moly, AKA Dwayne Molyneaux, to open Sneaks.” Marlo’s personal shoe collection eventually filled up the now famous Clear Shoe Trunk. The shoe collection served as what was the start to what now is Sneaks.

All About Those Brows! Editor-In-Chief: Georgez Dabit Photography: Shaun Asakura
I
t's no surprise that I have thick eyebrows. In fact, they are one of my favorite features on my face. I've had many people ask what I use, how I get them so thick, and how to get them to look like mine! If you don't follow fashion, that's your first mistake. Truthfully, big brows are in whether you like them or not. The trick to getting a thick brow is simple: make-up! When I first started doing my eyebrows, my friends, Kelsey and Travis laughed at me because they felt my brows didn't look natural and needed major fixing (they are beauticians so they knew what they were talking about). I started to focus more and more on my eyebrows and really tried to figure out what I was missing to give them more of a natural look. I first started with an eyebrow pen (dark brown) which I almost never touch anymore unless I need a quick touch-up, then moved on to eyebrow powder. I searched high and wide for the top-of-the-line eyebrow make-up powder. I was introduced to many different brands which can be found at high-end make-up stores in any mall. When looking for a top-of-the-line powder, you want to make sure you get something that is really pigmented because you won't have to use as much and it will last you longer while giving you a more dramatic, chic look that high fashion always strives for. You can find a cheaper powder that may do the trick but if you want something that will last you long and do a wonderful job, you will need to spend a few bucks. Not only is the powder important, but the brush you use is very essential to your brows. You want to make sure to find a very sharp angle brush (most make-up stores in malls will have good ones) because this will give you the shape of a real brow if done correctly. If you want to do quick touch-ups on your brows, use a pen with the same shade as your powder. Keep in mind that your eyebrows are typically a different color than your actual hair color, so find a shade that works for you! Since I can't do video in my column, there are many video tutorials out there that you can view online to teach yourself how to do your own brows. I personally break some of the make-up rules out there because I like my brows to come in closer to the center of my nose than they're supposed to, but everyone can do it differently.
To all the MEN out there
These are just my fun tips on eyebrows and I hope someone can find them helpful and resourceful. There are so many other sources out there if you are a beginner (make-up stores, previous DenVhere issues, friends, etc). I also wanted to mention that this column isn't directed just to females since the make-up industry is targeted for women. I wanted to also share that men can do their brows, too! Have confidence and live for tomorrow!
