Welcome ...to another brochure packed with a whole host of great kids’ entertainment. This season there’s something for children of all ages - the little ones will be enthralled as The Very Hungry Caterpillar munches his way through everything in sight; and kids’ TV favourites Numberjacks take to the stage. Older kids will revel in the dark magic of The Terrible Infants - think Tim Burton meets Roald Dahl - or they can set sail on a swashbuckling adventure with the Vampirates. There’s plenty of fun to be had outdoors this season too, so dig out the mittens and wrap up warm for our annual Bonfire & Fireworks display; climb aboard a gondola for spectacular views of the city on The Big Wheel; and begin the countdown to the festive season with the Christmas Lights Switch-on. As if that wasn’t enough to keep the family busy, there’s our two Christmas shows to add to your to-do list. Dick Whittington is this year’s pantomime, whilst The BFG will be our last ever festive production at Derby Theatre. If you want a taste of the treats that are on offer, visit our website to view trailers for both shows. Whatever you come to, I hope you and your family enjoy it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and The Mixed-up Chameleon by award-winning children’s book illustrator and writer Eric Carle, beautifully retold in this glowing stage adaptation with puppetry in black light.
Children will delight in the antics of Little Cloud. High up in the beautiful sky, Little Cloud slips away from the rest and transforms itself into various shapes of the things it sees – a sheep, an airplane, a shark and more.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar that progresses through an amazing variety of foods towards his eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly.
In The Mixed-Up Chameleon, a little chameleon is bored with its life – sitting about predictably changing colour all day. So it decides to embark on an adventurous trip to the zoo, wishing it could be more like the other animals.

by Roald Dahl adapted by David Wood Late one night, Sophie is snatched from her bed in the orphanage by the BFG, who takes her back to his cave in Giant Country. The BFG – Big Friendly Giant – is a dream-blowing giant who blows lovely golden dreams into the bedrooms of sleeping children. The two soon become the best of friends, feasting together on disgusterous stinking snozzcumbers, washed down with frobscottle and making whizzpoppers together. But catasterous disastrophe strikes. The other giants are not nearly so nice. Their favourite pastime is feasting each night on human beans, and have set their sights on their next meal – the chillders of England. Sophie and the BFG quickly make plans to save them, enlisting the help of the Queen of England, the Head of the Army and the Head of the Airforce in their battle against the other giants.
Derby LIVE’s brand new production of this classic Roald Dahl tale promises to delight and enthral audiences this Christmas – from little chillders to Big Friendly Grandpas! www.roalddahl.com www.davidwood.org.uk
