FROM THE PUBLISHER Happy August! By the time you read this – the entire COVID situation and our state mandates will have probably changed 3-5x since I wrote it. So, I’ve decided to ditch my first draft of the Letter from the Publisher which talked about all we’ve gone through in terms of the riding community. It’s not really going to be relevant – and what’s really the point? Our whole country has obviously changed a lot through all of this, and certainly the riding community is not the exception. Our whole lifestyle is centered around getting OUT! So, how does that work for us during a “shut down”? It doesn’t. But then the lock down evolved into social distancing and more and more folks realized that motorcycling is a great activity that you can safely do with others. It’s a great time to get out and explore the roads less traveled – either alone or with friends. If you get a group out riding – you’re going to be able to get out and hang with others, while still relatively safe. That is – until you stop. And then you have to make sure all the guidelines are followed. So motorcycle and powersports sales have taken off and despite the lack of big events to ride to – this is a GREAT time to be a motorcyclist! Slowly but surely, some of the restrictions are starting to be rolled back and smaller rides and events are being held. During this period of transition, though, a lot of the big events have been rescheduled – allowing more and more riders to attend the smaller events which are easier for the organizers to hold out and see how things are. Silver lining – more smaller, new events and ride stops are able to take advantage and even flourish during this time. The important thing, though, is that we all make an effort to support some of these folks and the riding community in general. A lot of rides and events have been forced to reschedule / postpone til next year. I’d encourage you to seek alternative ways to help these groups and the causes they support. For the local shops and ride stops – bars / restaurants especially – I’d encourage you to make an extra effort to give them your business. A lot of ride stops and events won’t survive this year. It’s sad to consider who some of these causualties might be. I’m not weighing in on the politics or value of the masks and restrictions placed – and maybe it’s all worth it. I’m not challenging that at all. I’m just saying that we need to consider how much we value our riding community as a whole and recognize that some of the businesses and charitable organizations may really need our support to make it through all of this. The one real undeniable truth through all of this is that we are all in it together. And it’s more than likely that most everyone will survive as individuals. So, maybe we need to focus on the here-after and where we want to ride then and with whom.

As Told By

THE IRON COWBOY RIDE & EVENT UPDATES / ANNOUNCEMENTS Blue Line Unlimited Organizes Ride for First Responders

2020 RIDE TO BE HEARD Saturday, August 15th, Kent, OH

Saturday, August 1, 2020

Multiple Starting Points – All Ending at Geauga County Fairgrounds (Burton, OH) Blue Line Unlimited was founded in 2016 with the goal of providing assistance to law enforcement officers and their families in the way of benefits, training, and equipment. Since then, they have donated over $150,000 directly in the form of grants and support to those serving and in some cases the families of those we’ve lost.

Honoring Our Vietnam Veterans! MATTERS NOW MORE THAN EVER! With the ever changing guidelines and mandates from the State and the needs of those hosting, participating, and being honored by this event – American Legion Portage Post 496 and the American Legion Riders have requested to reschedule this Ride and the program to Saturday, August 15th. Even though KSU cancelled their event w/ Jane Fonda - we feel that the RIDE MUST GO ON! It was ALWAYS about the VETERANS, Not HER! So just because the University jumped at the chance to cancel the ceremony and avoid further embarrassment over their guest we feel compelled to STILL hold the event to honor our Veterans, especially those that served during the Vietnam War. For more information or to register for the Ride – visit the facebook page or event listing at https://www.reasonstoride.com/events/ ride-to-be-heard/

In the wake of all the current uncertainty and challenges in our country that law enforcement officers are dealing with on a daily basis, Blue Line Unlimited has organized a motorcycle run to show support and appreciation for not only law enforcement but first responders abroad including our police, fire, EMS, dispatchers, doctors, nurses, and our military both active and veteran. To kick off the ride, each of the participating counties will have their own starting points. From there, each group will journey to the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH to celebrate our first responders. Starting points will be hosted in countries across Northeast Ohio – including Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Portage, Summit and Trumbull. The ride is $20 for each rider and includes both the ride and admission to the after event at the fairgrounds. If you pre-register by June 27th, you’ll also receive a FREE Ride T-Shirt and lunch provided by Mission BBQ - an all-American barbecue restaurant dedicated to serving first responders and military. For those who are unable to ride but would like to attend the event, a ticket option is available that includes admission to the event along with a lunch provided by Mission BBQ. You can register for the Ride at www.BlueLineUnlimited.com.

For more information, including being a SPONSOR or RIDE STOP, email Nicole at Bluelineunlimited@gmail.com

Readers are encouraged to submit pics and information on their bikes to ReadersRides@ReasonsToRide. com. Submissions will be reviewed for possible inclusion in upcoming print or online features, or possibly for a dedicated feature or sponsored photo shoot where practical. There will also be opportunities to get printed copies or even posters made of the features.

Opportunities for local riders to help support their riding community. With the 2020 Riding Season finally getting underway, it’s clear that there will be a much greater demand for local coverage across the state as more riders will be staying closer to home for smaller rides and events. This means that TRO will need even more help covering these events – both getting the word out in advance and taking pictures and covering the events as they happen. As always, Local Road Reps will have the opportunity to make some extra cash covering their area – if they’d like. But for many, the real appeal is being able to help these local events succeed and share their story with the rest of the state! The cool part, though, is that you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. You can both help the local riding community and make some $$$ doing what you love! How cool is that?!

No magazine experience is needed, however you’ll need access to a computer that you feel comfortable using and possibly a camera. Although, some simply use their phone! The key, though, being able to handle yourself professionally while still having fun hanging with bikers! It’s a tough job, but somebody gets to do it! THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop the TRO Championship Bike Show Series as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing in an informal, fun format. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues showcasing bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields with countless entries still hot from riding in from across the state! Throughout, we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates. Even if you’ve never participated in a Bike Show before, we encourage everyone to participate and have fun with the shows! Chances are that you’ll discover a greater appreciation for what makes your bike unique and meet some other folks with a similar passion. And we’re certain you’ll have a blast!

AUGUST UPDATE!

ATTENTION MOTORCYCLE SHOPS / CUSTOM BUILDERS / PAINTERS: For shops interested in participating and possibly exhibiting customer and shop bikes, a limited number of shop displays are available at Thunder Roads Bike Shows. Participating shops and organizations are able to offer special incentives for their customers and members. For more information or to reserve space for group bike displays (i.e. shops, clubs, race teams, etc..) email BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

INTERESTED IN HOSTING A TRO BIKE SHOW AT YOUR LOCATION? Email us TODAY for more information at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are welcome to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “restomods”, trikes, and radicals are all welcome to the show. These shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road. Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include both the “popular opinion” and an objective review of the bikes. Interested in coming out? It’s easy!

Geneva Bike Show.

Just visit us online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com and you can register for whichever show you’d like. By Pre-Registering, you are locking in your spot, saving a few dollars, and you’ll even get a FREE T-Shirt! Then come on out to the show! Specifics vary by show, but it’s generally an informal process. You’ll meet other builders and exhibitors – and most likely walk away with more than a few new friends in the motorcycle community.

TOUR NOTES: • Vendors and Local Riding Organizations are invited to come out and set up at many of these shows. You must register in advance though, by emailing ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com • Tour Series Shirts are now available online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com or by clicking SHOP NOW on the Thunder Roads Ohio Facebook page.

Latest news on FlyBy Week and Other MSTA Events MSTA Red River Gorge Rally at Mt Sterling, Kentucky, was held the weekend of July 11. Event coordinator Pat Mogavero put together a package of five great routes through the mountains and back roads of Eastern Kentucky. Many of us rode the popular Hillbilly Triangle route on Friday, that included over 260 miles of great technical mountain roads, including the well-known NADA tunnel near Red River Gorge. It's an old railroad tunnel bored through solid rock, with a one lane roadbed and no internal lighting. Another popular route for Friday was the Four Parks Ride that visited four state parks along its path.

If the photos don't seem to show much social distancing, understand that it was quite breezy all weekend, reducing risk. Dining at the nearby Cattlemen's Steakhouse was quite good. They had both indoor spread out seating and outdoor seating. There were additional tables outside where you could sit while waiting for indoor seating. The food was good, but the most interesting thing was the salad bar. How can they have a salad bar in the age of COVID? Simple. They had it completely glassed in. You just walk by, tell the server what you want and they fix your dish to order. Fantastic!

There was quite a collection of interesting bikes at the rally, including several Moto Guzzis, a BMW K1600 cruiser and a new 650 Royal Enfield.

Saturday, Pat led a Group Ride on a route that was a bit easier than some of the others. It was intended for attendees new to MSTA rallies, but some regular members who wanted a day off from doing their own navigating joined in as well. Seventeen riders participated- almost a third of the attendees- and all had a great time. Coming up this month MSTA FlyBy Week, Marietta, Ohio, August 24-30, is still a go. Fortunately, Washington county, where Marietta is located, continues to be one of the Ohio counties least affected by COVID. That said, some normal event activities will still be modified or eliminated. Riding activities for FlyBy Week, especially in the smaller groups typical of the MSTA sport touring style, are unaffected. This will be the best year ever for FlyBy Week routes, with twenty five available. Riders, can choose from Destination routes which feature parks, landmarks, outstanding places to eat etc. Touring Bike-Friendly routes are designed for big bikes and two-up riding, Easy

comfortable place to eat. As always there will be plenty of lounge chairs for safe and flexible outdoor seating. We had to cancel the Monday - Thursday "Dinner Tours," as we will not be able to provide a bus or van to transport groups downtown for dinner. Most of the nice restaurants in town are currently open, and attendees can still arrange their own transportation or make informal group arrangements for whatever they are comfortable with. To minimize risk, we strongly encourage online registration. If you must register in person at the event, our registration area is quite large and since registration is spread through the whole week, there are never more than a few people there at a time. . Navigation routes are tailored for those who don't want to use a GPS, and Twisty and Technical routes are there for the hard core sport touring riders. There are even short routes of 50-120 miles for people who arrive late in the day or get back early from their main chosen route and want an extra quick loop.

Given the popularity of the group ride at Red River Gorge, we will offer them at FlyBy Week as well. Finally, we have five Adventure routes to choose from in both Ohio and West Virginia. Social distancing remains a top priority, so we will not be having the traditional Friday burger burn or the Saturday night group buffet. Attendees will be on their own for meals, but there are plenty of dining options including take-out and delivery services. Our trademark "Outdoor Lounge" will be set up with pop-ups and tables spread out so those who get food delivered will have a

Daring to Dream David Eggert Thunder Roads Ohio

Doug Danger is an easy guy to like. His humble persona is pleasing. He’s for all the right things, like sending a positive message to children, dreaming big, working towards achieving that dream, and his love of god and country. He comes from a time when a man’s word actually meant something. Then you hear about his death defying crash that almost left him for dead, and a recovery that would result in no memory and limited physical functionality. You hear about him defying the odds once again to battle and beat stage 4 cancer. The legend grows. Then you hear about him setting the world record for the longest jump on a motorcycle. Then numerous other feats like holding the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc distance records and setting the longest jump ever on a Harley Davidson. You really can’t say enough about a guy like that. To me though, the measure of someone of this stature, is to be standing on top of a launch ramp, with the landing ramp nearly a football field away, a strong breeze in the air, thinking that he probably won’t make it, but the crowd expects him to jump, and so he does. Backing down the ramp, revving the engine, and letting it rip. This is the stuff of legends. I caught up with Doug Senacal a.k.a. Doug Danger on the phone while he was in route to a series of book signings back in his old stomping grounds up the east coast. I had just finished reading his book “Doug Danger. Dare To Dream. From Tragedy to Triumph, A Daredevil’s ride” by 15 Rules Publishing, and had a series of questions to ask him. The book is an engaging story of his life, his triumphs, his defeats, and his amazing ability to overcome obstacles and bounce back from significant knockdowns along the way. It's an incredibly uplifting story, and it’d make a great fiction book, except for one thing. It’s a true story. After reading this book, if it doesn’t move and inspire you, then I do not know what will. The book takes you along his entire life from 5 years old as a kid learning to ride a bicycle to doing these insane motorcycle jumps and through his health and life

issues. His dream as a child began by jumping bicycles on junky homemade ramps. After a particularly heinous wreck, which his mom witnessed, she took him down to the local lumber yard with instructions “if you’re going to do this crap behind my back, I at least want to make sure to do it right, go buy whatever you need”. Nothing like motherly love. He progressed to jumping at the fair, and moved on to public jumps in other towns. As a young kid Doug saw Evel Knievel’s famous Ceasars’ Palace jump, which probably goes down as one of the greatest crashes of all time due to the nature of the accident, as well as the amazing film

footage which was picked up by news outlets world wide propelling Evel into the public eye. Doug later saw Evel jump again at Holy Cross' Field in Worcester, MA as a spectator. Doug went for an interview with the Joey Chitwood Thrill Show in Florida. Where he was trying to land a job as a motorcycle daredevil. Evel had a jump planned there a week later. Doug saw Evel’s bus parked, and went over and struck up a conversation with Robbie Knievel. The two because friends and he was introduced to Evel, who offered Doug a job building ramps for his upcoming jump. At 18 years old, he was now working for the legendary Evel Knievel!

His world record jump, almost wasn’t. In 1991 Doug successfully jump 42 cars in Loudon, New Hampshire. After a review of his landing spot, he was a little short of the distance record. He had already been paid, and the crowd had celebrated. A few days later, with only a few onlookers present, he kept doing the jump, stretching it out farther and farther until he came down so hard he broke his wrists. He did 6 jumps that day. On the 5th jump, he travelled 251 feet, breaking the world record. On his 6, and final, attempt he travelled 265 feet, broke his wrist and crashed on the landing so it didn’t count. Doug says “It meant the world to me, I was willing to die trying, I wanted that to set that record”. Modern techniques have changed how jumps are performed. Today, equipment is better, with stronger, faster, lighter bikes, that have much more travel in their suspension. Having the ability to practice in foam landing pits, and having the landing ramp higher than the take off ramp makes for a smoother, less impactful landing. All of these improvements have allowed bikes to set new jumping distance records. Doug’s life story is a series of ups and downs. Setting the distance jumping record put him on top of the world. Robbie Knievel, son of the great Evel Knievel, and Doug were to have a nationally televised jump off with a big enough payday to set Doug up for life. He was doing a series of

small jumps to stay sharp when a crash at Hudson Speedway thrust him to one of the lowest spots of his life. Doug Danger crashed into a three-foot retaining wall at the speedway breaking 17 bones and remaining in a coma for over a month. When he recovered, his memory was gone.

his former self, they treated him terribly, not fully understanding his diminished capacity. Struggling to adapt to the new way people treated him was a battle of its own. To go from a world record distance jumping hero, to a washed up, injured, has been, is an experience few people could work their way through.

Doug explains that during his crash at the Speedway, when he hit the wall, he distinctly remembers floating above the wreck, looking down and seeing this mangled body, and his father who had passed away 3 weeks prior, screaming at him, “Get out of here, Get out of Here! It's not your time.” If it wasn’t for a nurse in the stands, who tricked her way onto the infield immediately after the crash, Doug would not have survived. She provided much needed medical attention to a man without any vital signs.

After the bad wreck, he was at the point of his recovery where he was operating at about the age of an 11 year old. His wife said “iIf you ever jump again, I am leaving you and taking the children”. He was torn between doing what he was made to do, and doing what most expected him to do. His mom encouraged him to start to try jumping again, and if his wife had an issue with it, to “Tell her not to let the door hit her ass on the way out”.

The accident left him without any memory and without the ability to do everything that he had done before. Walking, eating, showering, getting dressed, all had to be relearned. Waking up in the morning, he just laid there, not knowing what he was supposed to do. He basically reverted back to the state of an infant. Over a few years, things gradually came back as he relearned how to do everything. Eager to get back to life, Doug worked as a sales person at a bike shop, the people who he previously trained were now his bosses, and as he was a shell of

A long slow climb up off the mat ensued. He worked his way back to jumping. Doug went through years of mental abuse and pain. In everyone’s eyes Doug was thought to be stupid because he couldn’t do the things he once did, or remember how to function as he previously had. After the accident, the doctors called him a “Walking angel” because he should have never made it. They told him to file for permanent disability and he refused, because it would have meant that he was giving up, and Doug Danger never gives up. It was difficult to go from being respected, admired and someone that kids looked up at, to someone who could barely function and was made fun of, picked on, and bullied.

The day of the jump, Doug couldn’t get enough speed, no matter how much the bike was tuned and tweaked. The 900ft runway was not long enough. Finally another 500ft road was cleared back by the water tower, and Doug was able to come onto the runway with enough speed to reach the ramp with a legitimate change to make it. The jump was 151 feet long, and was a success, outpacing the Knievel attempt, which had only cleared 21 cars. Doug states that “They say it was one of the 5 greatest jumps in history, and I know it was the best one I ever did.” Back on top! Doug is a sought after motivational speaker and loves presenting to children and young adults. The message to children is a hard one to convey. You need to have a dream. “If you don’t have a dream, you don’t have a goal, if you don’t have a goal you have nothing in life going for you.” His unique life story really backs up that message.

His life was trending upwards. Then came a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, where he was told he had a 5% survival rate, then the treatment, back down to another low spot. The cancer was about a year of really tough hardship, and Doug thanks his wonderful 2nd wife Maria for pulling him through. The doctor told Doug he had 3-6 months to live, and that he needed to get his affairs in order. In a “Hail Mary” attempt, with nothing to lose, Doug tried an experimental chemotherapy treatment that was tough, but worked. Jumping helped prepare Doug for his cancer treatment. Mentally, on every jump, he convinces himself that he is going to land it, and having the same outlook at the start of chemo willed him through it. He believed he was going to make it, and against the odds he did.

After the painful and difficult cancer recovery, and starting to jump again, Doug finds himself looking at an original Evel Knievel jump bike. The owner lets him sit on it, and Doug says he felt the spirit of Evel enter his body, and tells the owner if you ever want to jump it, you let me know. A month later, the call comes in to see if Doug is really interested in jumping the $350,000 bike. The owner wanted a short jump over a few cars. Doug convinced him that it has to be 15 cars of better, so not to insult Evel’s legacy. Woody, from the Buffalo Chip, reached out when he heard about it, and the jump site and world record goal was set. Doug would attempt to jump 22 cars at the Buffalo Chip Campground during the 75th Sturgis motorcycle rally on August 6, 2015.

His book “Doug Danger, Dare To Dream. From Tragedy to Triumph, A Daredevil’s ride” is available in paper and electronic format via Doug’s website dougdanger.net Its also available at all major booksellers. So what’s next for Doug Danger? He’d like to do one more world record jump on Evel’s bike. That may or may not happen. The Evel Knievel museum is a little reluctant to take the risk of jumping it again. Travis Pastrana set the bus jumping record at 16, which was one more than Evel Knievel, and of course, Doug wants to go over 17. That elusive high of jumping is hard to replace. You train and plan for a year. “Your whole life…it's going to come down to 3 seconds in the air. When you let that clutch out, that’s the moment. This is it. Here it goes. In a matter of 30 seconds, you are either going to be dead, a hero, or maimed. There’s a lot of pressure on you. You go and you stay focused and pull off what other people have not been able to do, and you land that thing, and there are 35,000 people going insane. There is not much in the world that can compare to that.” - Doug Danger

When I disassembled the handlebar and riser assembly, I found that only the bars were bent, but the risers were straight. The riser bushings were a little sloppy, probably part from general wear, and part from being torqued sideways. So I picked up some new bars from Lowbrow Customs, and some stock riser bushings. *Bushing install is on my YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/c/knoblemoto

Whoops! This month we will look at accident repair. Accidents have happened too many of us. Eventually the adrenaline wears off, the tow truck leaves and it's just you and your bike in the garage. You are faced with the harsh reality that you wrecked it. You've broken it in the most heartbreaking way possible. Not only did you shed blood physically, but you hurt your bike, and maybe a little of it was left behind. In time stories and scars will replace wounds, and just the memories will remain. Many of you have wrecked and many of you know the sting of the road rash. But those of us who have been down know that what really hurts is the sting of your pride.

Here is my recent wreck and repair story. Like most, I consider myself to be a competent rider. Sometimes I consider myself above average, but then a brief error in judgment on the simplest of turns, rattles all of that. We were riding through the curves of West Virginia. When going through the Town of Gauley Bridge, I did not see the sign for the route until the last second. Now I could have just rode past, turned around and went back, but no, I grabbed a lot of brake, and leaned hard into the turn. The front tire slide for a brief second, then the bars slapped, and physics took over from there. Once I was launched upwards, I had a brief moment of clarity where I remembered to pull my hands in, and roll. I hit and tumbled in my usual, graceless, manner. All the riding gear worked! Sprained ankle and sore shoulder, destroyed jacket and a scraped up helmet visor are a small price to pay for that type of error. Immediately some locals stopped and my friends blocked the road and ran to check on me. One almost immediately had a first aid kit out and was ready to clean my road rash. I think he was just really excited to finally get to use some of his first aid training. After we determined I was still operational, we moved the bikes to a nearby parking lot. My Dyna still started right up. Once in the lot, we assessed the damage. Broken items: Bent handlebars, tweaked bar risers, badly scraped up exhaust, scratched up saddlebags. Front lever and mirror had some scratches, fairing was heavily ground down, also, the rear lever, foot peg, and my pride had some deep scratches. Luckily I crashed in front of a restaurant, so we decided to get a bite to eat then go from there. After lunch I decided I was going to ride home. I was in a little pain, but I knew if I waited until the next day the pain would 30

New brake lever, and a very through inspections of the front master brake cylinder. I checked for any faint cracks, new noises, or the slightest faultiness of operation. It's your front brake, don't screw around! Luckily everything seemed okay. Next, I reassembled the exhaust, new rear brake lever and hardware, new foot peg, and wired in a new turn signal. be intense, so, 293 miles back to the North Coast. I stopped ever 100 miles to re-check myself physically, and re-inspect the bike. Once I got it home, I assessed every part that could possibly be damaged and maybe a few that could have been damaged by inertia of the impact or damaged during my physics induced dismount. First thing I did was focus on the exhaust and the right side foot controls since they seemed to take most of the damage. I pulled the heat shields off the exhaust, and then removed the muffler. I then checked the head pipe for bends or subtle cracks. It is important to have a hard look at things for cracks because a hairline crack can turn into a major fracture in the blink of an eye. Luckily Supertrapp makes stout stuff, and I did not find a structural damage. Now the heat shields had some pretty deep scratches that ran the length of the front pipe. So I used flat fine file to knock down the big burs, then a sanding disk on a small grinder to smooth over the scratches in the steel. From there I used some heavy emery cloth to smooth over the rest of the imperfections in the steel. The emery cloth is a time consuming process, but that extra effort leads to a better finish in the end. From there I used a medium foam based sanding block, to remove and smooth over the damaged coating. Luckily I have a black exhaust, so I was able to use BBQ paint to repaint the heat shields and muffler. I just did it in light coats over the course of a few days. I am sure this won't last as long as the original stuff that Supertrapp used, but it will work for a few seasons. From there I took the right peg mount off the frame, and checked for damage. The misalignment seemed to be from the mounting bolts, not the mount itself, so I added new 3/8-16 bolts to the shopping list. If you were in doubt about the size and grade, you can go to most hardware stores and they have some fixtures there that you can use to determine the size of the bolt. Or you can just look online for the original part number, google it, and go from there. Next I ground down the rear brake lever hoping to make it a “low profile” design. That looked stupid, so I ordered a “like new” used one off eBay. When I reassembled it, I thoroughly checked the rear brake reservoir for damage, and alignment.

From there I took it for a test ride. I paid careful attention to how it tracked at different speeds, I also made sure it changed lanes in both directions with the same amount of effort. This proves that nothing is tweaked and I wasn't subconsciously compensating to keep the bike going straight. I tested the suspension on some of Cleveland's finest “textured” roads, and of course a repeated and thorough stopping drills on an industrial parkway. The final step was to contact my painter, Chelsea Motorworks, to have her repair my front fairing. She advised me to just buy another fairing, and she would paint it to match. Just before writing this I picked the new fairing up from her, and it looks gorgeous! I wouldn't expect anything less from her. Now the bike looks better than it did before I wrecked it, and I added a crash/skate bar in case it all happens again. FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...

In a crowded city, at a busy bus stop, a woman who was waiting for a bus was wearing a tight leather skirt. As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus. Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. Again, she tried to make the step only to discover she still couldn’t. So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more. For the second time, attempted the step, and, once again, much to her chagrin, she could not raise her leg. With little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to make the step. About this time, a large Texan who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. She went ballistic and turned to the would-be samaritan and screeched, “How dare you touch my body! I don’t even know Who you are!” The Texan smiled and drawled, “Well, ma’am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kinda figured we were friends.”

A woman said to her cheating husband "Do you want to see a crumpled up $50" And he said "yes" So she reached into her pocket pulled it out and gave it to him. Then she said "do you want to see a crumpled up $100" And he said "yes" So she reached into her pocket pulled it out and gave it to him. Then she said " Do you want to see a crumpled up $50,000 and he said "yes" So she said go look for your car in the garage then A man was walking through a rather seedy section of town, when a bum walked up to him and asked the man for two dollars. The man asked, "Will you buy booze?" The bum replied, "No." Then the man asked, "Will you gamble it away?" The bum said, "No." Then the man asked the bum, "Will you come home with me so my wife can see what happens to a man who doesn't drink or gamble?" Drunk Husband A wife was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband's key in the door. "Stay where you are," she said. "He's so drunk he won't even notice you're in bed with me." Sure enough, the husband lurched into bed none the wiser, but a few minutes later, through a drunken haze, he saw six feet sticking out at the end of the bed. He turned to his wife: "Hey, there are six feet in this bed. There should only be four. What's going on?" "Nonsense," said the wife. "You're so drunk you miscounted. Get out of bed and try again. You can see better from over there." The husband climbed out of bed and counted. "One, two, three, four. You're right, you know."

1 pound 80/20 ground beef 1 yellow onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic 2 spicy Italian sausages, sliced 4 cups marinara sauce 4 tablespoons tomato paste 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes 2 dried bay leaves 1 package pasta of your choice (Don recommends angel hair) 1 Over medium heat, brown ground beef in a large pan until partially cooked, about 3-4 minutes. 2 In a separate pan over low heat, sauté chopped onions and garlic. 3 Add sausages to garlic and onions and cook 8-10 minutes. 4 Add sausage mixture, marinara, and tomato paste to large pan with ground beef, still over medium heat, stirring frequently. 5 When sauce thickens, add sugar, red pepper flakes, and bay leaves. 6 Reduce heat to a simmer and cover. Cook for 30 minutes. 7 Prepare pasta according to instructions. 8 Place individual servings of pasta in bowls, top with sauce. 9 Add toppings of choice, such as grated Parmesan cheese, basil,or black pepper.

As founder and lead singer of Dokken, Don Dokken made a name for himself in the 1980s with his captivating stage presence and unmistakable voice. Dokken had numerous charting singles during the decade, including Alone Again, In My Dreams, and Burning Like a Flame. The band frequently toured through Europe, and, in addition to performing, enjoyed some delicious meals. This recipe is Don’s goto red sauce, a traditional Sicilian-style sauce that’s an ode to the old world.
