Independence Day, or the Fourth of July as we know it, is the day we honor and remember the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776, in which we declared our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain (United Kingdom), from tyranny and oppression. Another historical fact is that our Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights (the basis of our law and nation) are founded on The Bible. Now, I understand that there are some that think this isn’t truth, or at least don’t want this to be true. But the historical facts still remain, we are and have been the greatest nation in the world because of our foundation in God and His Word – the Bible. If you haven’t stuck your head in the sand, you’ve probably noticed that the foundation of our country has been eroding away, by anti-American forces that have manipulated their way into positions of power. Our liberties and freedoms are being stolen right out from underneath us and many times we don’t know how we got here or what to do about it. There is a reason for this though, we as a nation have been turning our backs on God for the last 50 years. Our national sin continues to separate us from the Lord and all of His blessings that we have taken for granted. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” We have been the greatest nation in all the history of the world because of our faith and foundation in Christ Jesus. But over the years we have told The Lord, in effect, we don’t need you. So, like the perfect gentleman that He is… His Spirit has lifted and now we are paying the price for our own choices. But here is the good news - There is the fix for this issue! 2 Chronicles 7:14 says “and [if] My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” If we as Americans would humble ourselves, repent for our mistakes and turn back to God, He will forgive us and restore us. 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This 4th of July, I encourage all my brothers and sisters to remember from where we have fallen, turn back to God and watch Him bring the peace, liberty, and freedom that we ALL want. There is no substitute for the real thing – Jesus!
