FROM THE PUBLISHER “Your magazine just has so many ads in it…” That’s the most common complaint that I hear about our magazine – but admittedly, it’s not something I’ve heard in quite some time. Thanks to COVID, we have been down and a lot of our advertisers / stops were barely hanging on. Things were leaner and we had to revamp our design and come up with new approaches to some of our core practices. Thankfully, though – we are back up to “Pre-COVID” levels with over 70 pages of “RIDES, RALLIES, BIKE NIGHTS, BIKE SHOWS, RIDE STOPS, and More!” Over ten years ago, when we first started this magazine – we adopted a pretty basic core objective… We wanted to produce a magazine that was WORTH picking up. It’s not enough to simply make a “Free” magazine. It has to be worth picking up. Even more than that – we wanted to create a magazine that drew people in and kept their attention. We wanted to create something that kept people coming back for more. So we actively sought out writers and other contributors that could help generate content that not only entertained but might also serve a purpose. Our hope is that we have interesting articles that might help people become better riders, make their riding experiences more enjoyable, and possibly might even help our community. We’ve even tried to take the same approach with our advertisements. The vast majority of our advertisements have to do with events or ride destinations of some sort. Some are for equipment, gear, and new motorcycles – but most are for places to go, things to see! And we try to make sure that our ads are visually appealing and make the magazine more interesting as well. We consider the ads part of our appeal – one of the core reasons people pick up the mag. Beyond the aesthetics – we also want to make certain that our advertisements are for events, products, and organizations that we would personally recommend ourselves to our readers. Because that’s essentially what we are doing. After ten years of not only publishing the magazine – but also riding and hanging out with our readers, we take this whole things fairly personally. And if you see an ad for an event or ride stop in this magazine, you should feel comfortable in the fact that they have been recommended by a friend. Over the past ten years, that’s how we built Thunder Roads Ohio into one of the largest and most read regional motorcycle magazines in the nation. Every month we reach over 400k RIDERS through our print and digital copies. Online, some of our posts and articles have reached over 1 million people – all organizally without “boosts”! Our printed magazines are proven traffic generators as loyal riders make the ride to pick them up at stops all across the state – every month. We’re proud to say that Thunder Roads Ohio isn’t simply a “Free Mag” that folks simply pick up on a whim – riders make the effort to “get their Thunder Roads” each month! And we APPRECIATE the loyalty and support! We hope to create a magazine that’s worthy of you sharing with friends and family – “hey, check this out!” If we do all of these things… keeping our eyes on what’s important, we will continue to grow and succeed. We built our magazine up once before – ten years ago, before COVID; and we will do it all again now. We greatly appreciate the support we’ve received over the past year from our sponsors, advertisers, and of course – you, our readers. Thank you!
