FROM THE PUBLISHER With the 2022 riding season well underway, it’s turning out to be a homecoming for many of us as some of the most well-established shows and riding events return after a few year hiatus. We started this spring with the Piston Power Show, then Ohio Bike Week not only returned – but returned with authority with a blockbuster week on the water, and then South East Harley-Davidson hosted the 33rd Annual Ferrari Night Car, Truck, and Bike Show. Each of these events were a celebration of a riding community this year as we were able to meet up with friends and true brothers and sisters from the road. Sadly, there are still some events, venues, and even riding organizations that are struggling to return with all of the new and daunting challenges that we still face. A prominent leader of one of Ohio’s motorcycle clubs recently lamented to me that “Everyone wants to be a Gangster – until Gangster stuff needs to be done.” And this got me thinking. The same could be said of many folks and roles in our community, and maybe is something we need to consider. Everyone wants to be a “stand-up guy (or gal)” until it comes time to take a stand! I vehemently believe that the malaise that is tearing this country apart isn’t extremism – but APATHY. The crazy extremists have always been here in our country. We just have never before turned the reigns over to them like we have currently. And this hasn’t been a conscious decision that we’ve made – it’s just that too many people have just stood silently by watching. We’ve now had generations of kids growing up in this country with parents who are both working and leaving the education and care of their kids to folks with other agendas. Whether it’s teachers at school or the folks serving up cartoons and children’s shows with clear messages that Mom and Dad may not care for. I’m not saying this to be critical of families where two parents work – I get it and understand the need, especially these days. But we all need to be remain engaged in our kids. If your kids are older or you don’t have any – you can still see what’s going on and have a voice. This is your country and community too! If you believe in something – take a STAND FOR IT. And I’m not saying you need to get up on stage or speak to the community as a whole – start with your own family and friends. Don’t be afraid to let those around you know what you believe in – and what you don’t care for. And more importantly, let your actions convey this as well. And the same goes the other way – make sure that you take a stand and support the things you believe in. In terms of the riding community, I’d also challenge you to get out and support the RIDES, EVENTS, and ORGANIZATIONS that you believe in. That little spot that you used to ride out to on Sunday afternoons because you loved their burgers and that great lady behind the bar – ride on out there and let them know you appreciate them! That ride that you and your kids used to go on every year, get out there and ride once again! You want to take a stand and let people know that you’re still here and have a voice? USE IT! And of course we are bikers – so we can let the roar of our bikes speak for us. How cool is that? BOOM! I’m Derek, and I whole heartedly approve this message and hope to see you out on the road! VISIT US ONLINE – AND DISCOVER THE NATION’S MOST INTERACTIVE AND COMPLETE RESOURCE FOR RIDERS! Before anyone even knew what COVID-19 was, we had already started working with ReasonsToRide.com to develop more online resources for our partners and better digital content for our readers. Then the pandemic struck and digital was the new thing, and even the most traditional of magazines began shifting to digital platforms. Now COVID is hopefully behind us for the most part – but we are left with a national shortage of paper and sky rocketing costs across the board. Thankfully, though – we are well prepared. If you haven’t visited our website recently, I’d really encourage you to check it out. You can scroll through the magazine with more ease and with more options than ever before. You can click through on advertisers that interest you, you can easily map to events anywhere in the country with just a few clicks, and you can even sign up for rides and bike shows – without ever leaving our site. It’s all really cool. Over the next few months, we will be shifting more and more of our content to the websites and social media pages in the form of BLOGS and VIDEOS. We’ve already started uploading past features and articles to the BLOGS – but we will soon start posting new original content directly to the websites. All of our advertisers and core features will stay in the print edition of the magazine, but we will have to rotate around some of our regular contributors to digital only and we will start doing more event / feature content online only. For instance, we’ve already uploaded over 4,000 photos from this years Bike Shows and Rallies to our Facebook albums and website. Page constraints will prevent us from featuring even 5% of these pictures in the print magazine itself – however, they are all online! Some event features, such as our comprehensive review of Ohio Bike Week and bigger Bike Shows will have to wait until the off months when we have more pages free. On a positive note, this will give us more to enjoy in the colder months when we can’t get out and ride as much!

OHIO BIKE WEEK

WOW! The North Coast Thunder Rally ROARS back with a new layout. As previously mentioned, above, we will be saving our more comprehensive review of this years Ohio Bike Week for this Fall – when we have the space to really cover it in the magazine. We have, however, already started to share thousands of photos online – through Facebook and our websites. We will also soon be uploading new BLOGs about this year’s OBW as well. These will be accessible through both the ThunderRoadsOhio.com website and the special OHIO BIKE WEEK pages hosted by ReasonsToRide.com. This new resource will be maintained yearround with features on past rallies and updates and news on the upcoming editions. You can find it at www.ReasonsToRide.com/OhioBikeWeek That all being said, we just need to say that this was certainly one of the best years for OBW in recent memory. We LOVED the new layout along the shore and it was great seeing everyone downtown on the Barrell House Pier the first weekend as well. We’ve heard that there were record numbers for the first weekend in Sandusky. We want to thank Jimmy Bukkett’s for hosting the first OBW ISLAND PARTY with us – and everyone that came out for the Bike Show, one of our best Bike Week ones ever. 8

BOOM! PLEASE NOTE: The OHIO BIKE WEEK Iron & Ink Tattoo Party at Margaritaville was rescheduled due to weather. The new date chosen is this fall – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th at Margaritaville as part of their BIKE NIGHT program with live music and hopefully less rain!

CONNECTING WITH RIDERS

Local riding organizations are invited to come and set up at regional motorcycle events. Over the next several months, we will be setting up at and helping to host a number of fairly large motorcycle events. We will be hosting “County Bike Nights” in Union and Lucas counties as part of the county fairs there. Then later in September, we will be hosting Thunder Zones as part of the Easyriders Rodeos and in Geneva-on-the-Lake during Thunder on the Strip. In between, we will be out at rides, bike nights, and other local events. And all of these are great opportunities for local riding organizations to connect with riders… Many riding organizations just think about setting up to sell t-shirts or to promote an upcoming ride, if that. Far too few consider setting up just as an opportunity to introduce themselves to other riders and the riding community in general. A booth with a banner in back and maybe a table with some swag or flyers about an upcoming event – allow you to connect with folks and deliver a strong message about who you are. At the upcoming events, we would like to invite local riding organizations out to join us as we set up. This includes motorcycle ministries, veterans organizations, RC’s, and even MC’s. For some of the larger events, where there are thousands of riders, there might be a small charge by the venue for setting up a booth. In most cases it’s just $50-100 to set up. If you can sell a stack of shirts or sign up 20-30 more riders for your upcoming ride – that’s money well spent. Or if you connect with a few strong candidates or have a chance to let the community really know who you are – it’s money well spent. One of our clear mandates going forward is to NOT spread ourselves too thin as much as we may have in the past. So, that means we will be limiting ourselves to less shows and appearances – even as we open up new territories and begin setting up at new venues. So – if you’re interested in getting on the Tour Schedule for this FALL or even NEXT YEAR – let us know ASAP. Even if you have a traditional, regular date – PLEASE take a minute and confirm your date for next year. If you’re considering adding a TOUR STOP – with one of our signature promotions such as the Bike Show, Iron & Ink Tattoo Party, or even just a photo shoot or Bike Night Appearance – let us know right away so we can begin discussions. Greater Toledo Veteran’s Ride roars through the NW Ohio Veteran’s Community! The First Annual GREATER TOLEDO VETERAN’S RIDE is a collaboration between the Lucas County Fair, Thunder Roads Ohio, and representatives from several Northwest Ohio Veterans Groups. This multi-day ride involves participants stopping at various posts and points of interest in the Toledo area that relate to Veterans or are participating in support of. Then once the cards are completed, participants will turn in their cards at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 – which is Veteran’s Day at the Fair.

The Greater Toledo Veteran’s Ride (GTVR) is hosted by American Legion Riders Post #320 with the support of other Posts and Veterans Service Organizations throughout Northwest Ohio. While proceeds from the ride will benefit VETERANS MATTER (VeteransMatter.org) and their homeless veterans housing program – a more immediate goal is to create more awareness of the many Veteran’s service organizations and tremendous resources that are available within the Toledo area. “We will be contacting Veteran’s organizations throughout the area and inviting them to participate in the Ride and the Veteran’s Day activities at the Fair,” explained Dennis Clemons, American Legion Post 320 2nd Vice and ride organizer. “Riders will have a chance to visit American Legion Posts, VFW’s, as well as businesses and stops that support local Veterans.” The Ride uses a unique format that has riders checking in at the American Legion Post #320 in Maumee on Saturday, July 9th during the day. They then have until Wednesday, July 13th to complete the stops and turn in their card. Riders are able to hit the stops as their schedule and possibly the weather allows – at their own pace. “The Ride will end at the Lucas County Fairgrounds, where we will be hosting our annual VETERAN’S DAY. In addition to all of the regular Fair activities, we will have a special area designated for Veteran’s organizations and activities. All riders will receive a meal – and have a chance to participate in raffles and enjoy live music,” explained Kathy Ingram, Lucas County Fair Board Member and Ride Organizer.

In addition to the Veteran’s programs and regular Fair activities, Thunder Roads Ohio will be hosting a BIKE SHOW and TRO Thunder Zone area on the fairgrounds. In the spirit of the day, there will be special classes for Military vehicles and service themed bikes in the Bike Show. Additional classes will include “Patriotic” themed motorcycles and even racing, high performance bikes. Trophies and placards will be awards to participants. All riders are welcome to participate, and all stops will be open to the public - not just Vets. For those that haven’t served in the military, it’s a great opportunity to gain greater insight and appreciation for the veteran community. Thunder Roads Ohio will be hosting pre-registration online as part of their Event Listing services powered by ReasonsToRide.com. Riders can register online through multiple sites – including LucasCountyFair.com and ThunderRoadsOhio.com. The first 200 riders to pre-register online will get a FREE Ride T-Shirt – courtesy of the Lucas County Fair and other ride sponsors. MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES Independence…. Something we have always had in us yet has always been something we have felt the need to fight to keep. From the time we were tiny infants we started doing things that required no help from anyone once we got the hang of it…rolling over, holding our own bottle, pulling ourselves up, standing on our own and eventually walking. We proved our ability to be independent and took off running from there! Until the rules set in, and we realized there were some things set in place that we needed to follow to maintain a bit of order to our independent chaos. Because while being independent is a great thing, being independent without order is like riding on a six-lane highway with no lanes marked north, south, east, or west, no set speed limit, no exit ramps or turn lanes…. chaos. So, independence became something we decided was worth fighting for and we do. We don’t want anyone to add to or take away from the freedoms we have already established for ourselves. We want to live free, ride free, walk free, talk free and just be free. But have we really gotten very much farther than our ancestors did 245 years ago? I mean, that isn’t really a very long time you know. Have we really gained anything with the way we have been going at it? Seems like the guys that started the whole thing were doing well by establishing the truths we are founded on…We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Look at the line, ‘endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights’: The meaning of unalienable is: impossible to take away or give up. IMPOSSIBLE!! That means no matter what, no one can take away what our Creator, God our Father has already freely given to us. Life, liberty (freedom), and the pursuit of happiness which is what we are all seeking to find and my dear friends the answers are not found in the places most would like you to think they can be found. No…these things are found right in the center of your heart where God placed His DNA in you and said you are His and if you would open up and let Him in He would bring you into a place of freedom you have never known before and that which was once before will not ever be again and that which is to come will be better than you have ever known, your children will see great blessings, your household will not lack and when all around you looks bleak you can hold fast and say ‘I will not look back because my God has my back and I will not lose what I have gained for His freedom has brought an independence that is impossible to be taken away from me!’ So, look up today my Brothers and Sisters, take the opportunity to grab hold of what is yours. Take a ride with us on a road to freedom that doesn’t run out of possibilities, and even though the map isn’t always written out in detail; He always has a purpose and a plan. On Sunday, August 25th; Thunder Roads Ohio announced our intention to help support Sam Childers – The Machine Gun Preacher – and his missions around the world. As part of an event with Armored Disciples Motorcycle Ministry and other riding ministries in the Cleveland area, we welcomed Sam to Cleveland for an afternoon at Rocky River Baptist Church. While there, the Machine Gun Preacher shared his own personal experiences and looked beyond his own missions in life to challenge us all to make a difference. If you’re not familiar with Sam Childers and the work he’s done – it’s a story that you need to hear. In the simplest of terms, he is a biker from Pennsylvania that traveled to Africa back in 1998 and witnessed atrocities that ended turning his world upside down. He has since literally saved the lives of THOUSANDS of children that in many cases had been simply left to die. That’s not dramatics or an overstatement. These were orphans that had lost their parents to the violence that has ravaged Sudan, Uganda, and the region for more than 50 years. In this part of Africa, there were no governmental social services for children. And the violence and horrors were

simply so overwhelming that many traditional missionary and aid organizations simply withdrew from the region. It was a situation so bad that news organizations and even the worlds governments simply looked the otherway. But along comes Sam Childers, a BIKER from Pennsylvania, and he took it upon himself to make a difference. One man on a mission to save the lives of children. Instead of being overwhelmed by the challenge – he SIMPLY DID IT. He did what nobody else seemed capable of doing – and he’s been saving the lives of children ever since. Back when we started Thunder Roads Ohio in 2011, we first crossed paths with Sam and learned of his work. I was already aware of the atrocities in Sudan after meeting a war refugee from the region while I was in school years before – so I felt a calling to help however I could. We supported a few appearances and helped share his story. But as happens in life, we became distracted with the realities of our own lives and we lost touch. Then it just “so happened” that Sam would be in Florida this past Spring while we were in Daytona for Bike Week. And then “coincidentally” it turned out that Sam would be in Ohio this Spring for a Bike Blessing with the Kingdom Knights Motorcycle Ministry in Akron. 14 14 14

I had the opportunity to catch up with Sam and do an interview – which you can find on our facebook page and website. In doing so, we had a simple question – “What’s going on with the Machine Gun Preacher – ten years later, what’s happened with your mission?” To which his reply was even simpler – “I never stopped.” We will share more of his story and work over the coming months and you can find more online, but the simple truth of his life and all that he’s accomplished was exactly what we needed to hear after all we’ve been through over the past year. It was the inspiration for a new charitable initiative and focus for our organization – Mission 2022.

MISSION 2022: And the Machine Gun Preacher Bike Mission 2022 for us is all about launching a new initiative that is focused purely on making a difference. It’s not about politics, race, past history, or any other drama or excuses that might overwhelm or distract us. This isn’t JUST about saving the LIVES of children in Africa – it’s about waking us up and inspiring us to make more of our own lives. Sure there’s A LOT of craziness going on in the world – but we CAN NO LONGER simply leave it to others to fix. We all can’t travel to Africa, nor should we. We have plenty that we can do in our own corner of the world – or even just here in the United States. But in supporting SAM’S WORK – we can help energize change in our own communities.

Our belief is that MISSION WORK and helping others is inspiring and can fuel change in our own lives. We’ve partnered with Sam’s organization – Angels of East Africa, LLC (a 501c3 organization) and Western Reserve Charities, Inc, to launch a campaign to not only support their work in Africa and organizations working to make a difference in our own communities right here in Ohio and the US. A central piece of this effort is a campaign to raffle off Sam’s own personal bike – a Harley-Davidson Street Glide that he had customized in his Pennsylvania shop. It’s one of the original MACHINE GUN PREACHER motorcycles and really a cool bike with a unique look and history.

We’ve always believed that the best thing about our bike show series is the people that both exhibit and attend. This isn’t just about the bikes – but about the people building and riding them as well. After doing these shows for more than 10 years, its great seeing how many connections and friendships that have developed over the years between folks coming to the shows. There’s a common bond that exists between riders – and there’s even more of a connection between the folks that take the time to restore, customize, or even create their own bikes. People start talking about what they’ve built, what they have at home, and what they rode up to the show. It's important to recognize that these are INFORMAL, RIDE-IN SHOWS! While we do use Judges at most shows, the majority of the votes come from the crowd. These are fun shows with the emphasis on camaraderie more than competition. If you’ve ever stormed out of a show after not winning the big trophy – these shows aren’t for you.

South East Harley-Davidson Ferrari Night Bike Show

This month we roll out 3 powerhouse Bike Shows – and all three are in NEW locations! First up, on Wednesday, July 13th – we will be hosting the LUCAS COUNTY VINTAGE AND CUSTOM BIKE SHOW in Toledo. This show is part of their Veterans Day program and also serves as the final stop for the GREATER TOLEDO VETERANS RIDE, which Thunder Roads Ohio and Michigan have helped support. Then two weeks later, we head down to Marysville for the UNION COUNTY VINTAGE & CUSTOM BIKE SHOW on Tuesday, July 26th. It’s part of their new BIKE NIGHT at the FAIR program, which includes Live Music, Motocross Racing, and of course really cool vintage and custom bikes. With both of these shows, our intention is to host a Bike Show as part of the fairs and connect with so many more people in the community. Not only will we connect with riders that may not attend bike nights or other riding events normally, but we may also find riders that simply haven’t ridden in a while or are “perspective riders”. We also anticipate doing a little “motorcycling PR” as folks attending the fairs will have a chance to view the motorcycles and maybe gain a greater appreciation for some of the rolling works of art that they might not normally see out on the road. It's also worth noting that for vendors and organizations looking to set up – the fairs will offer FAR great exposure and foot traffic. Bonus! VINTAGE & VETERANS DISPLAYS

This year we are teaming up with a number of Ohio county fairs to help incorporate motorcycles into more of their programming. This will include several new BIKE SHOWS as part of county fairs across the state. We are excited at the opportunities this will allow as we showcase unique and classic motorcycles in front of thousands attending county fairs – that in some cases have been going on for more than 150 years! For several of the counties, we will be hosting VINTAGE & VETERANS motorcycle exhibits. In most cases these will be held in either indoor or covered areas and run the duration of the fair. We are inviting anyone with a motorcycle 25 years or older, a military model, or any make or model with a military / patriotic theme to participate. Selected bikes will be sponsored by Thunder Roads Ohio, showcased as part of the exhibit, and then featured as part of the feature bike show on the designated day. Selected exhibitors will receive a wristband / pass for the duration of the fair and a special VINTAGE & VETERAN’S EXHIBITOR bike show shirt at no cost to them. Saturday, August 27, 2022 Thunder Roads Ohio returns to Fink’s Harley-Davidson in Zanesville to host their 4th Annual Bike Show. This is a great show that always features a number of unique bikes – of all makes and models. Local riding organizations are always well represented and Fink’s rolls it all out. There is always good music, cold beverages, something to eat – and lots of great folks!

MOTO CAMPING : OHIO BIKE WEEK Riding from Michigan to visit the Midwest’s Largest Motorcycle Event Brendan Farren, MotoCamping Editor ReasonsToRide.com It’s fair to say that if you own a motorcycle you’ve heard of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota and Daytona Bike Week and like me, you’ve probably been to both or even one or the other. This year I was surprised and happy to learn Ohio has it’s very own bike week (yes Ohio) they hold in Sandusky, right on the shores of Lake Erie. Furthermore, they report that it’s the “Midwest’s Largest Motorcycle Event”! Upon learning about the rally and also wanting to try out my new tent somewhere close to home, I hopped online to look into camping near there so I could check this event out. Any Michigander knows about Cedar Point in Sandusky so I figured the camping options would be plentiful. I clicked on a few websites and while most places seemed like fairly decent places for fun and families, I was not feeling the love or enthusiasm I was hoping to for Ohio Bike Week patrons, that is until I came across Crystal Rock Campground in Sandusky. This place looked perfect. I made my reservations online for a primitive tent site and began counting down the days. In the days leading up to the event I did my standard bike checks and decided to replace my rear tire and change oil just to be on the safer side of this and not have to write about how I didn’t follow my own advice to you readers. (I have to throw in a thank you to Hunt’s Hog Shop in Lansing for coming through on the tire mount). The night before, I grabbed my gear and ‘Bones’ my plastic skeleton sidekick I take on most trips, and loaded the bike. Crystal Rock Campground was less than a three hour ride avoiding the turnpike and was enjoyable to see some of Ohio’s smaller towns and farmland. I arrived at the campground a bit

earlier than expected and a couple hours before official check in times. I went into the front office to see if my site was available and met the one of the owners, Heidi. Heidi was super friendly and informative about what was going on in the area mentioning repeatedly how happy they were to host bikers for the rally. She handed me a Thunder Roads Ohio magazine and pocket rally guide and told me some of my Thunder Road Ohio counterparts were staying onsite as well, albeit in the cabins glamping it up. Seriously though I was eager to meet the Ohio team. Crystal Rock Campground has ANY type of camp site you are looking for from primitive tent like I almost always use, all the way up to cabins with ac and electric and everything in between. They have hot showers and the facilities are clean and maintained very well. You can buy firewood there and they have a small general store which has snacks, drinks, small souvenirs and even some often overlooked items like bug spray and shampoo etc. I was pleased to find things reasonably priced and not crazy high like you might expect to find at a camp store. Heidi got me all checked in and I rode to my site H5. I met my neighbor who was very outgoing and had been going to the event since it started years ago. I spent a couple evenings and a rainstorm just shooting the bull with him he was a treasure trove of information for the event and it was fun to run into him and his group in town at the event. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with my new tent. After losing my Vuz-Moto any tent I bought after would have some substantial shoes to fill. After some research I was debating on either the Lone Rider or the Wolf Walker. I like to have the bike “garage” on my tent as I have been in some serious weather including torrential rain and even snow. I don’t always use it but it is nice to have it in case. I opted for the Wolf Walker mainly for its price, at only a couple hundred bucks compared to almost $700 for the Lone Rider. Before I get any guff from you if you are looking at my pics, I understand the kickstand should be between me and the bike but for picture purposes I had it pulled in this way. The tent came in a quality bag that fit easily on my motorcycle. It was similar to my old tent so it set up easily. The Wolf Walker came with quality, color coded poles and had plenty of space for me, Bones and my gear for a week long adventure. What I was most impressed with though was how it held up to the major rainstorm right out of the bag. I typically treat my tents with waterproofing spray once a year, I did not get a chance to do that to the Wolf Walker before this outing. I got hit with STRONG rain on Wednesday and the tent handled it impeccably, not a single drop made it inside. On a side note I still plan on spraying it before my next usage just to give it an extra layer

of protection. If you are in the market for a new tent for motocamping and like to have the added space for your motorcycle I would urge you to strongly consider the Wolf Walker. Ohio Bike Week is set up in downtown Sandusky on the shores of Lake Eerie near the docks for the Put-in-Bay and Kelley Island ferries a glance across the bay you can see the Cedar Point skyline. I met up with Derek my Editor-in-Chief at the party Thunder Roads Ohio hosted at Jimmy Bukket’s in Fremont, Ohio just outside of Sandusky and participated in all the events there including being the runner up in the (soon to be world famous) Lime Races, from there the fun only escalated the rest of the week. The rides during Ohio Bike Week were varied and plentiful. They included a winery tour hosted by Mad River Harley Davidson, Kelley Island runs with free rides for your motorcycle on the ferry and the popular Jesse James ride. Admittedly having the magazine people like Derek in the loop helped tremendously on not missing out on any of the activities. I got to meet and ride with Billy Grotto from Twisted Tea going to various Micky-Marts (Ohioans know) to promote Twisted Tea by having burn out competitions and indulging in a couple free samples. I got to meet riding legends like Bean’re, pronounced Beaner and his unforgettable boots and have a drink with him at Barrel House Saloon. The bike show hosted by Thunder Roads Ohio crew was not to be missed. Great bikes in all categories. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to have pictures of my bike taken with the beautiful bike model Jenny and even got her to help me do some of the judging and hung at the show with her. The concert events were great! The stage near Barrel House hosted a plethora of talented acts ranging in genres. Jesse James and Jackyl kicked the headliner concerts off. While I enjoyed Jackyl I think I enjoyed Lita Ford the following night the most I had some fun dance partners for that one. I am definitely not taking anything away from Slaughter who played on the last night and the Progressive Insurance laser show after each concert was fun and done well. I want to thank Thunder Roads Ohio crew Derek, Jason, Dave, Kim and the other Dave (sorry I know I am forgetting some) for showing me such a great time. One thing that stood out to me at Ohio Bike Week was a very different feel from other rallies like Sturgis and Daytona as far as the camaraderie. Ohio seemed to have a more personal, friendly and brotherly feel to it compared to the others I have been to which seemed more about saying you were there not as much as being a part of the brotherhood. I came away from the Ohio Bike Week experience feeling like I was part of something and not just in attendance. That includes the campground and everyone I met and spoke to while there. Lasting a full week, attendees are free to come as early as they wish, stay a few days or the whole week.

Every day is a riding day, with social time in the evenings. Most attendees arrive on Thursday, ride for two days and go home on Sunday. If you come early, Monday-Wednesday, you will enjoy a relaxed, small rally atmosphere where it's very easy to meet and get to know people. Expect the parking lot to be empty during the day

BUCKEYE FIREARMS REPORT OHIO’S NEW PERMITLESS CARRY LAW GOES INTO EFFECT Key points and common questions regarding the new laws and how they effect you. By Dean Rieck, Buckeye Firearms Association Generally referred to as “permitless carry” or “constitutional carry,” Senate Bill 215, which is now in effect, makes several key changes to Ohio’s concealed carry laws: •

Ohio’s concealed handgun license (CHL) will become optional. If you are currently qualified by law to obtain a CHL, you may carry concealed with or without a license. Other than school zones where federal law still requires a CHL, nothing changes regarding who can carry, what you can carry (a handgun), or where you can carry. The same rights and responsibilities apply whether you have a CHL or not. You will no longer be required to “promptly” inform. If you are stopped by a law enforcement officer, you will need to inform the officer about whether you have a handgun only when or if the officer asks. And you are obligated to only inform the first officer who asks. In Ohio, you will no longer be required to carry the CHL. If you choose to obtain a concealed handgun license, you will no longer be required to carry the physical license on your person while carrying a handgun. However, other states may still require you to have your license with you.

Common Questions: I applied for an Ohio CHL and was denied. Can I now carry without a license? No. Nothing changes regarding who can legally carry a concealed handgun. You must still be a “qualifying” adult, meaning you are at least 21 years of age, not prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law, not a fugitive from justice, etc. Refer to the concealed carry manual available at the Ohio Attorney General’s website for more complete information. Can I carry without a license in other states? That depends on the laws of other states. Ohio law applies to Ohio only. When traveling to other states, you will need to abide by the laws of each state you’re in. References include the Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States, a book we sell at BuckeyeFirearms.org, and HandgunLaw.us, a website that provides information on the carry laws of each state. Can non-residents carry concealed without a license? Yes. While the rules for carrying a concealed handgun remain the same with or without a license, there will be no residency requirement when this law goes into effect. Someone who is otherwise a “qualifying” adult may carry with or without a license whether they reside in Ohio or another state. Reprinted with permission from BuckeyeFirearms.org. Here are some other points to keep in mind: Permitless carry applies to "qualifying" adults. The media has widely reported that anyone who can own a gun can carry permitless. This is NOT accurate. Ohio will maintain the licensing system. It's now optional for concealed carry in Ohio, but having a license may be necessary to carry legally in other states. The license may also be used as a stand-in for a NICS background check at some gun stores.

Open carry has always been, and will continue to be, permitless. You've always been able to carry with your handgun visible and the new law doesn't change that in any way.

You can carry a concealed handgun in your vehicle without a permit. A rumor has been circulating that the new law prohibits you from carrying concealed in a vehicle. This is NOT accurate. If you're a qualifying adult, you can have loaded handguns and magazines on your person or stored anywhere in your vehicle just as with licensed carry.

4th of July Jokes Some people enjoy a day off on the 4th of July. But not fire. Fire works. What kind of tea did the American colonists thirst for? Liberty. What’s the difference between a duck and George Washington? One has a bill on their face and the other has their face on a bill. Why are there no knock knock jokes about America? Because freedom rings. What did one American flag say to the other? Nothing, it just waved.

I was driving along the highway in my truck yesterday when a motorbike pulled up along side me. The guy on the bike looked at me, pulled a wheelie and then did a handstand on the bike. Then he tapped on my window while standing up - and said, “You’ve haven’t got a spare cigarette have you?” I said, “A cigarette? You’re going to kill yourself!” He said, “No I won’t, I only smoke 1 a day.” I got a motorcycle for my wife last week. Best. Trade. Ever!
