Jokes The wise old Mother Superior from county Tipperary was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her comfortable. They gave her some warm milk to drink, but she refused it. Then one nun took the glass back to the kitchen. Remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey they had received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened and poured a generous amount into the warm milk. When she walked back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more. Before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop. "Mother," the nuns asked with earnest, "please give us some wisdom before you die." She raised herself up in bed with a pious look on her face and said, "Don't sell that cow."
The psychology instructor had just finished a lecture on mental health and had proceeded to give an oral quiz to the class. Speaking specifically about manic depression, the
instructor asked, "How would you diagnose a patient who walks back and forth screaming at the top of his lungs one minute, then sits in a chair weeping uncontrollably the next?" A young man in the rear of the room raised his hand and answered, "A hurling coach?"
A woman was staying at a hotel and she decided to go sunbathing on the hotel roof. When she laid down her bikini top fell off. But, she didn't care because no one would see her anyway. After a while she heard footsteps; it was the hotel manager. She hurried and covered herself up. The hotel manager said, "We don't mind if you sunbathe up here, but we really would appreciate it if you would keep your bikini top on!" She answered, "No one will see me anyway." The hotel manager replied, "I hate to break this to you. But, you've been lying on the dining room skylights."

‘First class gardens call for first class equipment’- Gardener Dermot O’Neill
A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination, looking at the old pages as he turned them. Then something fell out of the Bible and he picked it up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree that has been pressed in between the pages. "Momma, look what I found," the boy called out with astonishment, "It's Adam's suit!!"
Q: What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers? A: Mechanical Engineers build weapons, Civil Engineers build targets.
Why is the man who invests all of your money called a broker?
Two rabbits were being chased by a pack of hungry wolves. The wolves chased the rabbits into a thicket. After a few minutes, one rabbit turned to the other and said, "Well, do you want to make a run for it, or should we stay here for a few days and out number them?"
Men are like fine wine. They all start out like grapes, and it is our job to stomp on them and keep them in the dark until they mature into something you'd like to have dinner with.
One afternoon, a man went to his doctor and told him that he hasn't been feeling well lately. The doctor examined the man, left the room, and came back with three different bottles of pills. The doctor said, "Take the green pill with a big glass of water when you wake up. Take the blue pill with a big glass of water after you eat lunch. Then just before going to bed, take the red pill with another big glass of water." Startled to be put on so much medicine, the man stammered, "Jeez Doc, exactly what is my problem?" The doctor replied, "You're not drinking enough water."
A little boy was in a relative's wedding. As he was coming down the aisle he would take two steps, stop, and turn to the crowd (alternating between bride's side and groom's side). While facing the crowd, he would put his hands up like claws and roar. So it went, step, step, ROAR, step, step, ROAR all the way down the aisle. As you can imagine, the crowd was near tears from laughing so hard by the time he reached the pulpit. The little boy, however, was getting more and more distressed from all the laughing, and was also near tears by the time he reached the pulpit. When asked what he was doing, the child sniffed and said, "I was being the Ring Bear!"

Quick Quotes To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do at conclusions. Benjamin Franklin One-half the troubles of this life can be traced to saying yes too quickly and not saying no soon enough. Josh Billings
The paint used is predominantly for cement or concrete tiles but can also be applied to manmade slate, the only difference being the primer used for, as it’s known in the trade, non-absorbent material. The product protects the roof tiles from the elements and inhibits algae and moss growth. The roof paint is available in ten colours that renew the appearance of your home. Like is says on the tin ‘Give Your Home a New Lease of Life’.
Advertising enriches life by quickening the imagination, arousing interest and enlarging the taste. Ralph W. Sockman A tear dries quickly when it is shed for troubles of others. Marcus Tullius Cicero
The system is an Eco friendly one carrying a 17-year guarantee from a major European institute. There are clear advantages - the visual difference and of course the financial one. As the system restores roof tiles to a condition as good as new then the need for replacing your roof to recapture its initial glory is gone. This is a great advantage whether redecorating your home or planning to sell it.

Visit www.tipptatler.com Business Directory A great idea no matter what way you look at it
There has been a huge decline in the number of houses being built in Ireland, but nevertheless there are still construction projects underway throughout the country. If you are building a house a great way to keep your living expenses down is to live in a mobile home on site for the duration of the build. There are several advantages to this clever strategy. You won’t be losing dead money on renting a property. Being on site significantly reduces the risk of theft or vandalism. You can always sell the mobile home after you move in to your new house for close to what you paid for it providing you look after it. If you choose to keep it you can have it moved to a seaside location for example, and have your own holiday home. This way you and your family will enjoy it for many years to come.

Vegetable juicing
Many of us have relatively compromised intestines as a result of poor food choices over many years. This limits our bodies' ability to absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables and juicing tends to facilitate this absortion. Also, vegetable juicing allows you to eat more of the vegetables than you normally would otherwise. By incorporating the juice into your healing diet, you will easily be able to reach the roughly 1 pound of raw vegetables per 50 pounds of body weight that is generally recommended we should eat every day. Ideally it would be best to mix the pulp in with the juice and eat it, since it is high in fibre. The fibre helps to move the bowels rapidly and also serves as fertilizer for the good bacteria present in the colon.
You can then put in some of the other similar green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and cabbage. Cabbage juice is one of the most healing juices when it comes to repairing an ulcer as it is a huge source of vitamin U.

Honey is a simple sugar There are 4 classes of simple sugars which are regarded by most nutritionists as "harmful" to optimal health when prolonged consumption in amounts above 15% of the carbohydrate calories are ingested: Sucrose, fructose, honey, and malts. Some of you may be surprised to find honey here. Although honey is a natural sweetener, it is considered a refined sugar because 96% of dry matter are simple sugars: fructose, glucose and sucrose. It is little won-
der that the honey bear is the only animal found in nature with a problem with tooth-decay (honey decays teeth faster than table sugar). Honey has the highest calorie content of all sugars with 65 calories/tablespoon, compared to the 48 calories/tablespoon found in table sugar. The increased calories are bound to cause increased blood serum fatty acids, as well as weight gain, on top of the risk of more cavities.

Light Bulbs Electric lighting burns up to 25% of the average home energy budget. The electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs have revolutionized energy-efficient lighting. CFLs are simply miniature versions of full-sized fluorescents. They screw into standard lamp sockets, and give off light that looks just like the common incandescent bulbs - not like the fluorescent lighting we associate with factories and schools. LEDs are small, solid light bulbs which are extremely energy-efficient. New LED bulbs are grouped in clusters with diffuser lenses which have broadened the applications for LED use in the home. Benefits of CFL lightbulbs Efficient: CFLs are four times more efficient and last up to 10 times longer than incandescents. A 22 watt CFL has about the same light output as a 100 watt incandescent. CFLs use 50 80% less energy than incandescents.
Less Expensive: Although initially more expensive, you save money in the long run because CFLs use 1/3 the electricity and last up to 10 times as long as incandescents. A single 18 watt CFL used in place of a 75 watt incandescent will save about 570 kWh over its lifetime. Reduces Air and Water Pollution: Replacing a single incandescent bulb with a CFL will keep a half-ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb. Saving electricity reduces CO2 emissions, sulfur oxide and high-level nuclear waste. High-Quality Light: Newer CFLs give a warm, inviting light instead of the "cool white" light of older fluorescents. They use rare earth phosphors for excellent color and warmth. New electronically ballasted CFLs don't flicker or hum. Versatile: CFLs can be applied nearly anywhere that incandescent lights are used. Energy-efficient CFLs can be used in recessed fixtures, table lamps, track lighting, ceiling fixtures and porchlights. 3-way CFLs are also now available for lamps with 3-way settings. Dimmable CFLs are also available for lights using a dimmer switch.

There are many different ways of making use of sunlight. Plants use it for their grows through photosynthesis. Photography uses sunlight to cause chemical reactions on the film material. Chemical and biological reactions let our skin turn red or brown if exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods. Sunlight is a very powerful form of energy. Without it, life would simply not exist.
Because energy cannot be destroyed or created (it can only be changed), the light that is absorbed by the obstacle is turned into another form of energy,
Sunrays travel through space at a speed of approximately 300,000 Kilometres per Second. They continue to travel until they hit an obstacle. The obstacle either reflects the rays or it absorbs them, in most instances some of both happens.
Active solar requires technical installations including circulation methods to bring heat from the collecting area to the inside of a building.
In the case of solar collectors light energy is changed into heat or electricity. In the case of heating with solar, one has to distinguish between 'active' solar and 'passive' solar.
Passive solar is the intelligent application of building design to make optimum use of sun light and heat.

Entrants to the 2008 Awards demonstrated energy savings of over €17m, with some projects delivering as much as 40% energy cost reductions. The 2009 Awards were launched at a special event today in Athlone where attendees heard presentations on a selection of last year’s winning projects. Professor J. Owen Lewis, Chief Executive, SEI, said; “Once again we are inviting businesses across the island of Ireland to show us how they are leading by example in energy cost reduction. In these times the issue is more important than ever – and our Award winners continue to show that real savings are possible.” Entries to the Awards, open to all businesses and public sector bodies, span a range of sustainable energy categories from employee awareness programmes to sustainable buildings and renewable energy. Entrants, both large and small, have typically delivered energy savings of 20% or more as a result of their energy management activities. The Sustainable Energy Awards highlight these successes and allow others to replicate their success.
“All of our work with Irish business is proving that energy savings are available, often at low cost. It is clear that energy and money is being wasted. Many businesses are now acting to address this, but there is still plenty to do. Our Awards winners are showing what is possible.” added Professor Lewis. Pat Fenlon, General Manager, ESB Customer Supply, said: “We are committed to continuing to work in partnership with Sustainable Energy Ireland and our customers to encourage energy efficient behaviour as it plays such an important part in ensuring that customers get the best value from their electricity usage as well as being important in protecting the environment for future generations.” Among last year’s winners were Crown Paints Ireland Ltd, who won with a project that reduced lighting energy use by 40%; Kevin Geoghegan, Intel Ireland Ltd won Energy Manager of the Year for Large Industry, achieving a 20% reduction in gas consumption in just 3 years; and Jerry Dwyer, of Lee Strand CoOperative Creamery, was award Energy Manager of the Year in the SME category at the 2008 Awards, for achieving an average of €50,000 energy cost savings per year since 1998. Further details on the Sustainable Energy Awards 2009 can be found on SEI’s website at www.sei.ie/energyawards

National Electrical Contractors Ireland (NECI): Electricians Rescue Bid to retain jobs The rescue plan involves electricians giving – ONE FREE HOUR OF WORK PER DAY - this will help their employers to remain competitive and in business during these extremely difficult times. This means that electricians are only charging their employers for 34 hours per week, as they are wilfully working the other 5 hours free, in a bid to support
their employers to reduce their labour costs and therefore retain their jobs in the industry.
These electricians have clearly identified the seriousness of the situation and diagnosed a creative interim solution, to counteract the unsustainable labour costs as laid out in law by the electrical REA. This drastic measure is due to the fact that neither Government nor unions have seen fit to do anyCasey Tiles & Wooden Floors Ltd. thing to sustain jobs in this sector. Unions continue to call for wage increases, and nonsensical Tile & Wooden Importers & Wholesalers anti-employment, anti-competitive regulation. They have failed to listen to the needs of the inRecession Times dustry and the clear distress calls from companys Call for recession prices in survival mode. The Electrical Contracting Industry is bound by its own Registered Employment Agreement (REA). This agreement does not have an ‘inability to pay’ clause therefore it does not recognise excessive labour costs. Furthermore, it does not have any mechanism within it to introduce, or implement any reduction on the hourly rate, on the contrary, it only allows for wage increases. This agreement binds the 5,257 Irish registered electrical contractors to all its terms in relation to pay and conditions for electricians / apprentice electricians working in that industry / sector. Any Irish registered electrical contractor breaching this agreement or the terms within this agreement will see the contractor being brought before the Labour court and face fines penalties and interest.
Failure to pay these will result in the contractor being criminalised in the local District courts, as this is the law. NECI is of the opinion the Electrical Registered Employment Agreement should be cancelled. Notwithstanding the fact that it may have served the industry well in the past, there has been substantial change in the industry / economy and in the way in which electrical contractors conduct business today. It is most undesirable to retain registration of this agreement, as it is detrimental to both employment and competiveness, within the industry. We have seen increasing pressure being forced upon the industry from the economic downturn, the slowdown in the construction industry and increasing competition from out of state contracting firms, which are not bound by any Registered Employment Agreement. The industry is under massive pressure with increasing numbers of electrical contracting firms being forced to breach the law (REA), to remain viable and competitive to secure and maintain employment for employees within the sector. NECI, Ireland’s largest trade association for electrical contractors, commend those electricians for their loyalty and commitment to their employers and their trade, for adopting this approach, in clearly what can only be called, “the worst economic time in the electrical contracting industry”. This interim approach may just prevent a large number of electrical contractors going out of business and highly trained electricians leaving the country or joining the dole queues.

IFA President Elected Leader of European Farmers’ Union COPA IFA President Padraig Walshe has been elected leader of the European Farmers’ Union COPA. He becomes the first Irish farm leader to hold the post, which is for a two-year term.
demand. Given the limited resources available including land and water, energy supply and price and the effects of climate change, supply may not be sufficient to meet this demand.”
Padraig Walshe said it was a great honour for his family and the Irish Farmers Association to be elected to the position and he pledged to give his full commitment to serving the interests of all farmers in Europe.
“EU food security can only be guaranteed through promoting policies that secure sustainable, high-quality food produced in Europe, for European consumers. The further globalisation of agriculture trade that will result from any new WTO agreement will not provide the necessary safeguards to ensure stable European production, and will inevitably put millions of family farmers out of business. This will expose the European consumer to volatile world commodity markets and prices.”
In his acceptance address, Padraig Walshe said that a strong Common Agricultural Policy is critical to European farmers and consumers. The further globalisation of food trade through the WTO agreements, coupled with the unregulated dominance of the retail multiples in the food supply chain, is putting the future of millions of European farm families at risk and ultimately threatening to destabilise the supply of high quality, safe food for Europe’s 500 million consumers. He said, “Since its inception, the CAP has been of vital importance for producers and has provided consumers in the EU with food security and price stability. At a cost approx €100 per citizen per year, the CAP supports farmers to provide EU consumers with a plentiful supply of high quality food in an environmentally and animal welfare sustainable way. “At national level, since Ireland joined the EU in 1973, average household expenditure on food has fallen from 17% to 7% of disposable income. However, a better job must be done in communicating the benefits of the CAP to consumers. The European Commission and we as farm leaders must work to address this serious communications gap.” Mr Walshe said, “the threat to global food security is very real. 2007 is regarded as the first year when world food supply failed to meet demand. Between now and 2030, the world population will increase from 6.8 billion to over 8.3 billion. In addition to the rapidly growing population, the increasingly protein-based diets of developing countries is leading to increased food
Padraig Walshe said, “This free-for all policy will drive food production to the lowest cost centres, ultimately leading to standards of food production and environmental protection being abandoned and jeopardising the security of food supply. Politicians and decision makers must take action now to protect the European model of farming, which has worked so well for European consumers.” Mr Walshe also warned about the need to regulate the dominant retail sector, which is another serious threat to European food supplies. “The driving down of producer prices to below the cost of production is having a devastating impact on the viability of farmers and threatens thousands of jobs in the agrifood and processing sectors. Supermarkets must be held accountable and comply with proper trading standards in their relationship with primary producers. While supermarkets are entitled to make a profit, so too are farmers and food suppliers.” “This is not just a country-specific issue, and requires an EU-wide response. The European Commission must take action and regulate the retail multiples in order to correct the imbalance of power between retailers and suppliers to ensure a more equitable share out of the consumer spend,” he concluded.

Daytime car lights on reduces collisions Using dipped headlights can make it easier to identify oncoming vehicles in the distance and is especially effective in preventing day time head-on and frontcorner collisions. • Research has shown that the use of Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) is an effective, low-cost way of reducing daytime collisions: • A study on the effectiveness of Norway’s DRL law from 1980 to 1990 found a 10% decline in daytime multiple-vehicle collisions;
• A study in Denmark found a 6% reduction in daytime multiple-vehicle collisions and a 34% reduction in leftturn collisions; • In 2004, a study carried out in the United States by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) found a 12% decline in fatal collisions with pedestrians and bicyclists. (ref: www.rsa.ie) Having lights on also improves visibility on sunny days. A driver who might be blinded by the sun is better able to see a car with it’s lights on.

Move over for Bikers "Sorry I didn't see you" is for too many bikers the last words they hear before they are put in the ambulance. Drivers should check carefully for all oncoming traffic at junctions when emerging. There are other things that drivers can do to ease the passage of motorcycles, particularly in heavy congestion that in turn will mean a safer journey for everybody. If stuck in dense traffic, keep checking mirrors for bikes. Bikers should also use their headlights to make them easier to be seen. If a biker is trying to ‘filter’ - make their way through the traffic by riding slowly between stationary vehicles,
or riding on the white line in the middle of the road – car drivers should make a point of creating space for them if they can do so safely. By pulling over slightly, after checking in rear-view mirrors to make sure the path is clear, drivers can make the difference between letting a biker past or adding to the congestion. Never be tempted to vent frustration with the traffic by getting in the way of a motorcycle on purpose. The traffic won't go any faster and dangerous driving may contribute to a collision which will add to congestion rather than alleviate it.
Another way to solve the traffic problems of this country is to pass a law that only paid-for cars be allowed to use the highways. ~Will Rogers

4 reasons to get Life Insurance By Eamonn Walsh QFA We all know that if you have dependants or a mortgage, then it makes sense to take out life insurance – however, as there are so many different types of life insurance to choose from, it is always a good idea to get life insurance advice.
lacked the finances - Life Insurance can do that for you.
Choosing and getting the right life insurance policy is of the utmost importance – after all, this policy will help repay the mortgage and / or other debts after your death, ensuring that your partner and family will not be left with financial difficulty to add to their grief.
What is Life Insurance?
In this article I will give you four reasons why you should purchase Life cover and answer some questions about life cover that are most frequently asked when conducting a personal financial review.
Can everyone get Life Insurance?
4 reasons to get Life Insurance
1. Life Insurance pays a tax free lump sum to you or your family if you fall terminally ill or die. This can ensure that your family is financially well provided for. 2. Mortgages, car loans, medical bills, and credit card debts are often left unpaid when someone dies, and these obligations must be paid from the assets you leave behind. This could seriously reduce the financial resources left for your family. This could cause your family a considerable financial loss if your assets have to be sold cheaply in order to meet the financial obligations on time. With Life Insurance the proceeds are available almost immediately upon your death, and will avoid any difficult situations for your family. 3. If you are keen to leave an estate for your heirs, you can achieve this with Life Insurance - automatically providing for your family after your death. 4. Life Insurance is a great way to give to charity when you die. You may have always wanted to give to charity but
Frequently asked questions about Life Cover Life insurance is the simplest and most popular way to protect your family in the event of your death. It provides a lump sum payment if you die during the term of the policy
Everyone who requires Life insurance will have to answer a number of medical questions. This may lead to a medical examination or you may have to provide a medical report. If you have a pre-existing medical condition or if a medical condition is identified some restrictions in life cover may be applied. What criteria affect my Life Insurance premium? The following criteria are considered when calculating your premium: Age Male/Female Smoker status Amount of cover required Term of policy
What’s the difference between Single Life, Joint Life & Dual Life Insurance? A Single life insurance policy covers one person. A Joint life insurance policy covers two people. Joint cover will pay benefits on the first death of either insured person.
Call 087-9855403.
Dual life insurance policy covers two people, though independently. It is effectively like having two single policies where cover will pay benefits on the death of both insured. Which types of life insurance do you offer? Mortgage Protection - the sum assured reduces throughout the term of the policy you can have this on a single life basis or joint life basis. The premium is guaranteed throughout the term of the policy.(This is the cheapest form of Life cover) Flexible Term Protection - the sum assured remains the same level throughout the term of the policy. You can have this on a single life, joint life or a dual life basis. The premium is guaranteed unless inflation protection option is chosen.
With Flexible Term Protection there are two other options you can choose: Protection Continuation Option (Conversion Option) – At the end of the term you have chosen you have the option to continue your life cover without the need for additional medical information. Inflation Protection Option (Indexation) – This option allows you to increase your life cover in line with inflation. Automatic right to future increases will cease if one offer to increase is refused. What is the difference between Level Cover and Mortgage/Decreasing Life Cover? Level Cover – this policy provides a lump sum that remains at the same level throughout the term of the policy. Mortgage/Decreasing Life Cover – this policy provides a lump sum that reduces during the term of the policy in line with the capital re-

duction of a typical repayment mortgage. Because the amount of the lump sum reduces, the premium for this type of cover is usually cheaper than level Life Cover. How much cover do I need? This is a question I get all the time and the answer is simple - there is no average. Life cover is designed to replace income therefore it is a very personal decision for each individual. The industry recommends a minimum of 10 12 times annual income, eg. €20,000 per annum salary should have a minimum of €200,000. A very simple calculation will show that this replaces income for 10 years. This begs the question, what do your dependents do after that. The level of life cover people have on average is considerably below that level. People in general are under insured What happens at the end of the policy term? The life cover ends and no benefit will be payable. No further premiums will be debited from your bank account. How the right professional adviser will save you money It goes without saying that you should shop around for the best possible life cover policy as so much of your hard earned cash is at stake. Remember if you deal with one particular institution you will most likely be offered their product only, whereas a good independent financial adviser will actually do the “shopping” for you and should be able to guide you to the least expensive and most appropriate policy for your needs. Brown Trout in Ireland Minister Power launches “Brown Trout in Ireland”,a spectacular publication by Dr. Martin O’Grady and the Central Fisheries Board At the National Gallery recently, Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Seán Power TD officially launched Brown Trout in Ireland, published by Dr. Martin O'Grady and the Central Fisheries Board. Minister Power said that the "spectacular publication", offers "a valuable insight into the diversity and uniqueness of Ireland's wild trout stocks" and that its images instil in readers an "appreciation of the native species, and the measures that must be taken in its protection." The book includes a photographic catalogue of Ireland's brown trout and their natural environment. Its author, Dr. Martin O'Grady, Senior Research Officer with the Central Fisheries Board has drawn on his 30 years experience in researching the ecology and biology of the many different strains of brown trout found in Ireland. Minister Power congratulated the Central Fisheries Board and Dr O'Grady for producing the book which he said "is certain to be of great interest to anglers, environmentalists, teachers and all others interested in Ireland's flora and fauna."
The Minister also cautioned that while there may be a positive story to tell in relation to Ireland's native wild trout stocks, we need to pay heed to the critical status of other inland fisheries stocks. "Recent scientific research indicates that the European eel stock is in a perilous state and a concerted effort by all Member States must be undertaken to assist in its recovery," he said. "The fisheries boards, the Marine Institute and my Department have prepared a management plan to achieve recovery in the shortest time possible". This requires significant measures on a number of fronts including closure of the commercial and recreational fishery and a major reduction in turbine mortality. He added that, conservation obligations must be adhered to and the importance of

Put your breast foot forward for the Women’s Mini-Marathon Shock Absorber encourages women to invest in essential sports kit – a sports bra.
sive breast movement can cause the Coopers ligaments to stretch and lead to irreversible breast sag.
As thousands of women across Ireland get set to take part in the annual Women’s mini-marathon on Monday 1st June, Shock Absorber is encouraging them to ensure they have the right sports bra, just as they would invest in a good quality pair of trainers.
Wearing a regular bra during exercise reduces breast bounce by an average of 38 per cent, however research* shows that wearing a Shock Absorber sports bra reduces breast bounce by up to 74 per cent, making it twice as effective as a normal bra.
While women run, jog or walk the 10km course past many Dublin landmarks, the average female runners breasts will be taking their own journey and could travel up to a staggering 600-metres in bounce - that is the equivalent of the Dublin Spire stacked end to end, more than five times!
Shock Absorber understands women and their exercise needs and are constantly researching and developing sports bras to fit both cup and back size, ensuring they deliver superior structure and the highest possible performance.
Not only this, but the average 36C breast weighs between 250–300 grammes, the weight of four bags of sugar! As the women bounce their way around the course on race day this weight must be supported properly otherwise, research* has found, they will risk increasing the effects of gravity on their breasts. Regular exercise like running can put great strain on the breasts fragile support structure, which compromises the outer skin and a connective tissue known as the Coopers ligament. Exces-
Shock Absorber bras are available in a variety of styles, colours and support levels with a size range from 28-44” backs and A-HH cup. For sports such as running, Level 4 support is recommended. Shock Absorber sports bras are available through selected stockists in Dublin and countrywide. The current difficult economic conditions expose directors of businesses to additional personal risk. A business could fail through no fault of the directors, for example, by the insolvency of a major customer; but directors are still exposed to restriction or even personal liability for the debts of the company and need to take steps to protect themselves.

Tipperary Businesses Jump Feet First Into Talent Tank - TalentTank.ie offers employers direct access to free labour
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Hayes explained, ‘Individuals have the opportunity to network with potential employers while employers benefit from higher productivity without incurring the labour costs. This initiative will allow Irish businesses to become more competitive and begin to set the foundation for future growth. As these businesses grow, so too will the need for new employees.’ Among the professionals already registered with TalentTank.ie to provide services free of charge are Accountants, Engineers, Architects, Sales and Marketing Consultants, Graphic and Web Designers, IT Consultants, Electricians, and Hotel and Catering workers. Commenting on the background to TalentTank.ie, Mr. Hayes said, ‘We identified a build up of talent and experience in the Irish labour market brought on by the current economic
New Irish website dedicated to barter Swop-o-nomics is an exciting new Irish website dedicated to barter. It allows people swop their skills, services and goods completely free. The address is www.swop-onomics.com .
Tipperary companies are being urged to register with a new website that provides employers with direct access to hundreds of professionals offering their services free of charge. TalentTank.ie is the brainchild of two Galway-based businessmen, Tom Hayes (available for interview on 087-2521582) and Nigel Murray, who believe the idea will help get Ireland’s struggling economy back on track.

downturn and the corresponding desire among employers to cut costs and maintain existing business. By tapping into this vast pool of expertise, employers are enabled to have a direct influence on the speed in which they and the country recover from the recession.’ According to Mr. Hayes, ‘A large number of employers from a range of sectors have so far engaged the services of registered individuals since the website went live earlier this month. Employers have found that the service presents them with the opportunity to become more productive without incurring labour costs while the benefits for those carrying out the work are also evident.’ He explained, ‘The idea is that by working for free, unemployed professionals can both keep themselves busy, and get a foot in the door for when employers have the funds to employ someone’. Mr. Hayes pointed out that TalentTank.ie was not a placement service but a platform for employers and service providers to engage with each other on their own terms.
An accountant looking for web design can swop with a web designer who needs his tax returns done. A solicitor wanting her house painted can swop with a painter in need of some legal advice. Barter is an extremely useful and versatile way of saving money, which in the current climate both businesses and individuals alike desperately need. With more than 1 in 10 people unemployed in Ireland at the moment bartering of goods and services is poised to skyrocket, Swop-o-nomics gives people a simple and hassle free way to arrange these trades.
Swop-o-nomics is a community based website where users can get to know each other before engaging in trades. Members simply register on www.swop-o-nomics.com for free, post what they are offering and what they are looking for. Even if you’re not sure what you want, you can post what you have to offer and let others suggest what they can give you in return. This has led to some interesting trades! The Swop-o-nomics team consists of three Dublin based students who are on a crusade to bring barter back. The site has been running for less than two months and has already had over 4,500 visitors. For more information, please contact Gerry Harte on 087-6808551 or at gerry@swoponomics.com.

The Barber of Seville Opera UK presents: The Barber of Seville 15th May 2009 at The Simon Ryan Theatre, The Excel, Tipperary Town A new production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville in an english translation by Simon Butteriss. It has been said that Rossini is the P.G.Wodehouse of opera. His characters get themselves into the most complicated scrapes and of course, mischief and mayhem ensues, while they all try to sort themselves out. Nowhere is this more evident than in his most famous opera. Here, the notorious barber, Figaro, Rossini’s answer to Jeeves - leads the way through the many intrigues of the tangled plot. However, this high spirited, merry romp, also provides an audience with a string of operatic hits, set amongst the dizzying action.
It is justifiably one of the all time favourites of the operatic repertoire. Following on from their hugely successful tour of “Cosi fan tutte” Opera UK will mount their new production along the same lines - with an English libretto beautifully played and sung, pretty sets and lighting, with costumes worn by a cast who have the right age and looks to play the roles, and a production that gives great importance to good acting and stylish staging. So come and see if Count Almaviva can get his girl, in spite of Figaro’s hamfisted attempts to help! Brilliant, Boisterous, Bawdy and Bold! Book Review Bad Things – Michael Marshall We here at Sheelagh na Gig like our thrillers dark and brooding and twisty, full of foreboding, dense with danger, but most of all, we like them well written. That’s why this week’s review commends Bad Things, by Michael Marshall. Bad Things opens with the sudden, inexplicable death of a young boy on a jetty, devastating the lives of his parents and destroying their marriage. Three years later the father, John Henderson, is working in a pizza joint, reluctantly protecting his boss’ daughter from the dangerous blunderings of her drug-dealing boyfriend, until he receives a mysterious e-mail from someone who claims to know how his son died. Henderson is drawn back to the forests of Washington State where a wealthy family and an entire town conspire to keep horrible secrets. Grappling with old memories and fighting old ghosts, John becomes entangled in a sinister web of secrets that may well explain his son’s death but that he might be
better off never knowing. The arrival of his boss’ daughter and boyfriend with a pair of hitmen in close pursuit adds a complication that he could do without. Death and darkness close about our hero and the people he wants to protect, and the scene is set for a final confrontation on the same jetty where he lost his son. Bad Things provides more than a few chills, making it perfect reading for the summer holidays. Bad Things is available in paperback at Sheelagh na Gig bookshop, Cloughjordan, for €13.99. LARCC – The Lakelands Area Retreat & Cancer Centre LARCC (Lakelands Area Retreat & Cancer Centre) is the only Irish Cancer Support Centre and is located near Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. LARCC’s aim is to give support and holistic help to people living with cancer. They provide a supportive environment where patients and family members can in participate in courses, obtain information and experience complimentary therapies. LARCC is run by a full time nursing staff with a Board of Directors comprising of cancer patients, their families, friends and health care professionals. At LARCC, they assist people with a cancer diagnosis to cope with their illness and enhance the quality of their lives. LARCC is a place of Retreat, Reflection and Recovery…they provide ‘a safe place to talk’. The founders of LARCC, Ita Bourke, Frank Russell and Karen Daly met in 2000 when they were diagnosed with cancer. For almost two ears they became involved in fundraising, volunteer work and research in the area of psychological support for cancer patients.
After much preparation and with the help of their families and business associates, LARCC was founded. LARCC offers: · Call in Services · 5-Day Residential Break · Open Days · Medical Services · Support Group · Telephone Support Line (10am – 3pm Monday to Friday) · Bra and Prosthesis Fittings · Complimentary Therapies At LARCC, their aim is to help people living with cancer and their supporters to deal with the fear that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. A Clinical Psychologist supervises the service and its counsellors. The staff are constantly updating their skills through training and courses run by the Irish Cancer Society and other professional bodies. The cost of the Residential Break is €465. Vouchers are available and other payment arrangements can be agreed. Dates for Residential Weeks in 2009 are: May 11th, June 8th and a Men Only Residential week beginning on June 29th.
Laughing Improves Health What: Are you happy? Are you surprised that I care? While you may think it an odd question, being happy can be a huge boost to your health. People who are happy have stronger immune systems, lower cholesterol levels and clearer arteries, and that's just for starters! One study on the effects of happiness followed people from birth to death and found that the happy optimists lived longer (much longer) and had fewer cancers, heart disease, and other life-threatening diseases than the pessimists.
Here are some "unique" tips to help protect your body from heart disease (tips for women and men):
Why: Laughing helps release endorphins, the feel-good chemical that evens out our moods and makes us happy and relaxed. Have you ever had problems trying to lose weight? Would you be surprised to learn that happiness can greatly affect your ability to do so? Studies have shown that women who experience high levels of stress (these are not happy women) have a more difficult time losing weight.
* Increases energy. Have you ever had uncontrollable giggles when you were really tired? Laughing is our body's way to increase your energy level.
These women also have lower energy levels and are often depressed. The good news is that laughing can help diffuse stress and increase your energy levels, allowing your body to relax and start to lose weight. How... Laughing Improves Health:
* Increases immunity, helping us fight off colds and diseases such as cancer and heart disease. * Increases endorphin levels, keeping our moods steady. In fact, the endorphins released from one minute of laughing are equal to that released from 10 minutes of strenuous rowing.
* Keeps our arteries clear and cholesterol levels lower. * Relaxes all of our muscles and decreases muscle tension. We're so busy scheduling appointments that we forget to take a moment and just laugh. A good laugh can dramatically change our brain chemistry; our body feels better and our cells function more effectively. Happiness doesn't usually just happen-we have to work on creating it.

Amen. E.N. The Miraculous Prayer – Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I’ve asked for many favours. This time I ask You this very special one (mention favour). As proof of my affection and faith, I offer this light which I shall burn every Tuesday. Comfort me in my difficulties and through the lodging in the house of my Saviour, intercede for me and my family that we may hold God in our hearts and be provided for in all our necessities. I beseech thee St. Anthony, to have infinite pity in regards to the favour I ask (mention the favour). Please help me to overcome all my difficulties I now have at my feet. Say three Our Father’s, three Hail Mary’s and three Glory Be’s. This is to be said nine Tuesdays in succession and each Tuesday a candle shall be lit and a copy of this prayer left in the church to help another soul in distress and to increase the devotion to St. Anthony. This miraculous saint grants everything, no matter how difficult and before the nine Tuesdays. E.N. Novena to St. Faustina A novena to obtain graces through St. Faustina.
