Jokes
The FBI had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews and testing were done, there were 3 finalists; Two men and a woman. For the final test, the FBI agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. 'We must know that you will follow your instructions no matter what the circumstances. Inside the room you will find your wife sitting in a chair . Kill her!!' The man said, 'You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife.' The agent said, 'Then you're not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home.' The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes. The man came out with tears in his eyes, 'I tried, but I can't kill my wife.' The agent said, 'You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.' Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions, to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood
the woman, wiping the sweat from her brow. 'This gun is loaded with blanks' she said. 'I had to beat him to death with the chair.'
A man hurriedly walked into a tavern. He dashed up to the bar and said to the bartender, "Gimme a double, before it hits the fan." The man guzzled down his drink, and a few minutes later, came the same urgent request. "Gimme a beer before it hits the fan." This goes on for an hour or so. Finally the Bartender goes up to the guy and says, "Listen buddy, maybe you should pay before you get another drink." The man replied, "Oops, looks like it just hit the fan."
One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon. He thought to himself, "It's certainly not a ship." As the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out even the possibilities of a small boat or a raft. Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad in a black wet suit.

Putting aside the scuba tanks and mask and zipping down the top of the wet suit stood a drop-dead gorgeous blond! She walked up to the stunned Irishman and said to him, "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a good cigar?" "Ten years," replied the amazed Irishman. With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wet suit and pulled out a fresh package of cigars and a lighter. He took a cigar, slowly lit it, and took a long drag. "My God," said the castaway, "that is so good! I'd almost forgotten how great a smoke can be!" "And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Bushmill's Irish Whiskey?" asked the blond . Trembling, the castaway replied, "Ten years." Hearing that, the blond reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there and removed a flask and handed it to him. He opened the flask and took a long drink. "Tis nectar of the gods! " shouted the Irishman. "Tis truly fantastic!!!" At this point the gorgeous blond started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked, "And how long has it been since you played around?" With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed, " Don't tell me that you've got golf clubs in there too!"

A man walks into a bar one day and asks, "Does anyone here own that rottweiler outside?" "Yeah, I do!" a biker says, standing up. "What about it?" "Well, I think my chihuahua just killed him..." "What are you talkin' about?!" the biker says, disbelievingly. "How could your little runt kill my rottweiler?" "Well, it seems he got stuck in your dog's throat!"
A snobbish tourist was visiting a small Australian village when he noticed a local man wearing a highly ornate necklace that featured 10 alligator teeth. He approached the man and in a condescending manner said, "Goodness, what a fancy necklace! I guess you people must value alligator teeth the same way my people value pearls." The man replied, "Well, anyone can open up an oyster.
It was a really hot day at the office due to a malfunction with the air conditioning system. There were about twenty people in close quarters and everyone was sweating, even with a fan on. All of a sudden, people started to wrinkle their noses at an odour passing through the air. It was the most hideous smell anyone had ever smelled. One man, popping his head out of his cubicle said, "Oh, man! Someone's deodorant isn't working." A man in the corner replied, "It can't be me. I'm not wearing any."

Rescue Team Management Software A young Irish entrepreneur is making waves with his new rescue team management software. Cliff rescue climber Robin Blandford calls his début technology Decisions For Heroes, and has started delivering the service over the internet to rescue teams around the world. ‘We Save Lives’ is an unusual mission for digital media engineers, but while volunteering on rescue operations as a cliff rescue climber in the Irish Coast Guard, young entrepreneur Robin Blandford recognised that all rescue teams have three common challenges. “They have a lot of equipment to train in, massive communication logistics, and large amounts of paperwork to back it up.” explains Robin.
to share data and perform paperless reporting between their teams. Easyto-generate statistics can be used to observe patterns, educate potential casualties, and reduce accidents in a community. With the philosophy of launch early, release often, Robin harnessed the collaborative power of the internet to gather over 1,800 rescuers from Ireland, UK, USA, Greece, and Australia to trial and shape the development of the software. Decisions For Heroes is amazingly intuitive, “Nobody likes reading manuals - if we have to write one, we've got too complicated”. At age 25, Blandford will launch a new Irish company ByteSurgery Ltd. on Tuesday May 19th 2009, to commercialise and expand Decisions For Heroes to emergency services around the world from local fire brigade to alpine ski patrols.
Identifying that better decisions save lives, the software Decisions For Heroes was created to monitor response readiness, team availability, valid qualifications, and experience. Armed with a laptop and internet connection, 999 responders can record the details of their rescue operations and training exercises. The software automatically performs analytical charting, draws heatmaps, and Robin Blandford (Founder) in his benchmarks reports to outline areas local volunteer Coast Guard role, of strength, weakness, and expertise. checks his personal protection equipment before leaving the harOrganisations are granted the ability bour as crew on a safety patrol boat.

ELECTRICAL GENERATOR & PUMP SERVICES LTD FOR SALE OR HIRE
YOU may have heard the song 'The Man Who Sold The World' but now it's a case of the woman who wants to sell Ireland - at a discount. Enterprising Kanturk woman Grainne Sherlock wants to sell Ireland, bit by bit, at a knock down rate. And, jokes about the decline in property values aside, she reckons it'll be good for business. Ms Sherlock has set up a company from home in Kanturk called Emerald Discounts Ireland, the aim of which is to promote the SME tourism sector of Ireland by offering them a platform on which to advertise their offers / discounts free of charge, by means of a
Some companies have used Emerald Discounts to offer combined offers. For example, the four star Fels Point Hotel in Tralee is offering 10% off food, 10% off accomodation and 10% off tennis hire in their hotel. "This adds to the advantage of the Emerald Discounts Ireland Website platform and promotional work," said Grainne. Grainne knows the ins and out of the tourism industry and has a wealth of experience behind her. She has worked in the hospitality sector for almost 18 years and in that time has been a hotel manager and assistant manager in many hotels some of which include Castlehyde Hotel, Fermoy where she was operations manager; Duhallow Park Hotel, Kanturk where she was assistant manager and she also ran her own restaurant in Killarney for two years. In 2007 she joined the Mergo Ireland iniative, run by Failte ireland, to gain experience in the marketing side of tourism and a year later got a Fetac level 6 qualification in Tourism Marketing. "These gave me the tools I needed to create a successful tourism based business, and also gave me invaluable contacts within the industry and abroad," says Grainne.
discount card. The discount card is aimed at tourists, who use them when visiting an area of interest, and will enable them to claim discounts off hotels, restaurants, activities and more. She's looking for more partners and points out the clear incentive is that it is completely free to advertise your offers (discounts) to a wide range of people researching their holiday to Ireland, or even people in Ireland looking to holiday or take a long weekend .
Now Grainne is looking to get the other side of the equation in motion. "For the past 12 months I have been working on gaining a large network of contacts for my new venture, Emerald Discounts Ireland, and I am also looking at setting up a local discount card initiative for all local businesses to advertise their offers through and gain customer loyalty," she said. At present she has about 60 partners throughout the country. "This is advertising which is completely free to sign up to," added Grainne.
"What I envisage is a variety of offers from each county — but keeping entry limited — thus adding to the value of "In today's recessionary times new and the card to the customer and adding to branding value for each and every existing customers are looking for ways to save money," Grainne pointed company that participates with us." out. She says it's also a simple but strong opportunity to gain new business, addon business and spread your branding to a wider market.
"Once we have a substantial number of providers then the success of this product will be more evident.
"We will cover all of the SME Tourism Market in Ireland and expose it to a worldwide market who are researching their trips to Ireland," said Grainne.

For anyone interested in a healthier way of life this months issue is an absolute must. You can pick it up in most newsagents.
The old adage “you are what you eat” not only applies to our overall health and nutrition, but how our skin looks and feels as well. As the largest organ in the body, our skin can benefit from the same nutrition we get from foods that have a positive effect on our heart and other major organs. In fact, new research suggests that eating foods rich in protein and certain vitamins and minerals might provide valuable anti-aging effects.
rosacea, eczema or psoriasis, eating certain foods or consuming alcohol could aggravate their symptoms
Contrary to popular belief, acne is not caused by the foods we eat. Although numerous studies have not found a link between diet and acne, emerging research now suggests there may be a link between a low-glycemic diet and an improvement in acne. The green economy is already delivering jobs in Ireland, over 400 last week alone. The aim of this high level group is to unlock all the institutions of Government, across a range of Departments in the promotion of a new direction for the Irish economy. There is huge potential for the green economy to help Ireland meet its economic and environmental challenges. The Tánaiste pointed out that latest estimates put the size of the global environmental goods and services market as exceeding €950 billion by 2010. The value of this sector for Ireland is growing and estimated to be more than €2.8 billion in 2008.
economy provides Ireland with a tremendous opportunity to create quality jobs in a sustainable and high growth sector. I want this Group to build on the work already undertaken by Forfás * on the Environmental Goods and Services Sector on the Island of Ireland. Only last week, I announced 180 jobs in Claremorris in a next generation bio-processing research, innovation and manufacturing centre which involves a €40million investment with the potential to grow to 300 jobs within three years. More recently, I unveiled details of a number of new wideranging FÁS courses for the construction sector focused on the new wave of green and clean-tech opportunities coming on-stream nationally."

This week Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan TD and Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan announced the establishment of a high level Action Group on the Green Economy. Deck Refinishing Proper surface preparation prior to applying the finish is absolutely critical and can never be overlooked. If you choose to hire a deck refinishing contractor make sure proper preparation is part of the contract. Before any washing or sanding can take place all mold, mildew and other "infections" need to be dealt with. It makes no sense to apply any finish over this unsightly and damaging nuisance. Plus, sanding mold will simply grind the fungus deeper into the wood. To remove mold from any deck surface, a wood brightener or deck cleaners can be used. The choice depends on the amount of preparation you will be doing. Deck cleaners will be fine with additional sanding. Bleach and water can be used when small areas are affected. The next job is to evaluate the condition and stability of the wood and stain. Many stains "burn off", turn into powder, after a short time and can be easily removed with pressurized water. Deck power washing can be a bit tricky and if done wrong could cause considerable damage. Deck cleaning can include the use of wood strippers or brighteners. These chemicals are an interesting addition to power washing, but not necessary. When I refinish a deck, power washing is just one part of the preparation process. The most
important part is sanding. Deck sanding is a labor-intensive job and should include the use of power sanders. Usually nothing too big is needed. Sanding can occur before the washing if a deck is very rough and requires a lot of work. In this case washing is used to clean the surfaces of dust and open the pours in the wood, allowing deep penetration of the stain. Decks that are in good shape can receive a light sanding after a thorough power washing. Now, a deck sealer must be applied. You have a lot of choices. Two general types are on the market, lightly tinted and solid colour. Your choice depends on the needed longevity and overall look desired. A general rule is the more colour the longer the lifespan. The most popular methods for applying a deck stain are with a brush, rolling, a paint pad and spraying. The best method depends on your experience and the decks construction. A combination can be used depending on your needs. Refinishing a wood deck can be a difficult and exhausting task. Especially if the deck has been neglected for a while. When the deck is properly refinished a maintenance schedule can be established. A proper wood deck maintenance schedule will reduce the need for intense preparation in the future.

In each of our stores we have selected different products bought from our indigenous suppliers. Each product is highlighted with a SAVE IRISH JOBS price card that highlights where the product has been sourced and how many people are employed in Ireland in the process of providing our customers with this product. The feedback so far has been great. Firstly, and most importantly, our customers want to support Irish jobs and, once informed, they have been very receptive to the idea that they are making a difference. Our suppliers, with whom we have worked for many years, also think that this is a fantastic campaign. Thanks to the feedback we have plans to run this campaign far into the future and hopefully it can continue to have an impact on our customers and on the need to think carefully about the value of their money and what their purchases mean to the Irish Economy. Hard luck to the Tipperary Senior and Junior Footballers on their defeats in the Munster Senior and Intermediate Football Quarter Finals against Limerick in Semple Stadium last Sunday. A brave and courageous second half fightback from the senior team was not sufficient to counter a first half totally dominated by Limerick and Tipp now head on to the All Ireland qualifiers later in the summer. TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW Don’t forget that there is only a week remaining to the first Draw in the new Tipperary Clubs Draw on Friday June 5th in the Horse & Jockey Hotel. We are urging Clubs to keep the sales drive on over the remaining few days. There are advertisements with full details of the draw in the local papers and on local radio and there are advertising displays around the county. Remember by supporting the draw you are supporting your local GAA Club, and with the new incentive of 75% of new membership been retained by the Club you are helping them to gain increased revenue this year. And above all don’t forget that the lucky main prize winner on Friday 5th June will walk away with a brand new Audi A6 Diesel or €50,000 in Cash. That’s certainly a prize worth winning. Entry into the draw is still only €100 for the year or €10 per month. So join now and give yourself the chance to win the big prize or one of the many other great prizes on offer. declared the winner. The song will be released on CD shortly. We hope to hear renditions of “The Mighty Blue and Gold” from Tipperary supporters all the way to September in Croke Park! The judges were Geraldine Delaney, who is musical director and arranger with newly formed Vince Productions, Paul Collins from Today FM, and Tipp senior hurling selector, Michael Ryan. The supporting acts from Scór were of a very high standard and showed the great musical, dancing and acting talent of all ages around the county. There was a special guest appearance by the Tipperary Hurling Panel group comprising players Pat Kerwick, Shane Maher and Brendan Maher, masseur Mick Clohessy and County Secretary Tim Floyd. Their voices and musical talent certainly match their hurling skills so we expect to hear more from them on the entertainment scene around Tipperary! The Song Competition was a novel way to celebrate the GAA’s 125th anniversary in Tipperary so well done to the 125th Anniversary Committee for such an entertaining initiative. Special praise must go to County Secretary, Tim Floyd and County Vice Chairman, Sean Nugent whose brainchild this competition was and who worked so hard with the rest of the 125 Committee to bring their idea to such rewarding and entertaining fruition. Tim and Sean are denying reports that they plan to have a go at Eurovision next year! Our thanks are also due to Tipp FM for organising and promoting this competition in conjunction with the County Board, to Fran Curry of Tipp FM and Aoife O’Brien from Cahir who compered on the night, to the judges, to the composers of all the songs entered, to the performers of the songs and the supporting acts, to all who helped organise the competition and finally to all the people who supported the competition by texting their preferences to Tipp FM and turning up in the Premier Hall for the final. Online directory issues ‘Google rogues’ warning to Irish small businesses It has recently come to the attention of Irish online business directory, www.whatswhat.ie, that a UK company is aggressively targeting Irish SMEs by falsely offering them improved Google search results. Over the past week, hundreds of customers of the online directory www.whatswhat.ie have been contacted by this company claiming to be working on Google’s behalf. They are claiming that by handing over their credit card details, Irish companies can jump ahead in Google search results within 48 hours. Having been alerted to the situation by www.whatswhat.ie, Google have confirmed this company’s claims are completely false. Google UK and Ireland have responded with the following statement “We’re extremely concerned to learn of companies without affiliation to Google using our name to mislead or mistreat small businesses who want to advertise online. Our legal team investigates such abuses and we continue to work with the relevant authorities to combat the problems caused. We always urge businesses in the UK and Ireland to work only with agencies they know and trust. We have established a programme of Authorised Google AdWords Resellers whom businesses can trust to manage their advertising on Google. Alternatively, they can do this directly with us at adwords.google.com.”
Barbara Gordon, Managing Director of www.whatswhat.ie is warning Irish businesses to be vigilant “we are currently inundated with emails and calls from small Irish businesses who have paid this company over the odds to increase their websites visibility and ranking on Google. Along with misleading consumers into to thinking they are working on behalf of a Google division, we believe they are also claiming to be affiliated to www.whatswhat.ie. We would like to confirm that www.whatswhat.ie have no connection with this or any other UK marketing company.” About www.whatswhat.ie: WhatsWhat.ie was set up by Bray businesswoman Barbara Gordon seven years ago, for the sole purpose of helping Irish businesses develop a presence on the Internet without huge expense. The Whatswhat.ie online directory assists the general public and companies with their search for businesses, products or services in Ireland. Companies can be listed free of charge on the directory, however, for less than €2 a week they can get a direct link from Whatswhat.ie to their own company website with many other features on Whatswhat.ie. Action on collapsing farm incomes Concluding the series of IFA Euro election meetings with an attendance of over 500 farmers in Claremorris, Co Mayo, IFA President Padraig Walshe said that EU action to support collapsing farm incomes, especially in dairying, the continuation of live exports and a reduction in unnecessary and costly bureaucracy were clear messages to a near 100% turnout of candidates. At all meetings, MEPs and candidates were left in no doubt about the necessity to ensure that the CAP must be fully protected after 2013 in order to provide safe, quality food for Europe’s 500 million consumers and maintain Europe’s farm family structure. Mr Walshe said “the annual cost of the CAP is equivalent to less than €100 for each European citizen and in the context of providing an environmentally sustainable supply of reasonably priced food, is excellent value for EU taxpayers.” An announcement by the Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith allocating the €29m in unused CAP single payment funds to the sheep sector before June 5th was a key issue, and Government MEPS will be measured on this happening before polling day.
He said for dairy farmers, EU price and market supports are vital to provide a viable income. He said milk prices are now at 1983 levels and the combination of bad weather, low prices and high costs have left producers facing the most severe income crisis in over 20 years. EU politicians cannot allow a wipeout of dairy farm families and immediate action is required. On beef and livestock, Padraig Walshe said live exports are essential for cattle price competition and no further restrictions under EU animal transport rules can be tolerated. He said the EU must secure much tighter limits on beef imports in the WTO as part of a more effective sensitive product status. Padraig Walshe said the IFA Manifesto also contains specific proposals on EU equivalent standards on imports, tackling market volatility, country of origin labelling, ensuring fair play for primary producers over retail dominance, opposition to electronic sheep tagging and full protection of funding and areas in the EU review of Disadvantaged Areas.

Tipperary Friends of Animals The peace of a Sunday afternoon was shattered around three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday 17th May by the incessant barking of dogs, when people began arriving in Banba Square, Nenagh with their canine friends in tow. These were the Tipperary Friends of Animals Supporters who braved the inclement weather to give their help and support for the society by taking part in the Sponsored Dog Walk to raise the much needed funds to care for stray and injured animals. It was certainly heartwarming to see the number and variety of dogs taking part in the walk, from the large rottweiller, Rocky, to the tiniest of Yorkshire Terriers, Millie and Mufin. Fr. Jim O’Brien and the Reverend Rowlin-Brooke opened the event with a blessing of the animals, even giving the dogs their own prayer “A-woof” and everyone headed off on the three mile walk, making the most of the temporarily dry weather, which remained dry until everyone had gone home. Refreshments were served to everyone who took part in the event including special treats for the dogs. Several
photographs were taken and anyone wishing to get a copy of their photo are welcome to phone 086-3906934 and all we ask is a small donation. Over €4000 was raised and as Tipperary Friends of Animals is run solely by volunteers, every penny will be used in the care and homing of stray and injured animals, such as the case of the three tiny little kittens, barely four weeks old and far too young to leave their mother, who were abandoned in a cardboard box on Friday 15th. Fortunately, they were found before they could starve. Anyone who has not handed in their cards, are asked to leave them into the Sportsman’s Dream in Kenyon Street, Nenagh, as soon as possible. Next year, the Tipperary Friends of Animals are planning to have a Fancy Dress Dog Walk where both dogs and their owners can get dressed up to do the walk. They would also like to thank every person and every dog that took part in the walk and hope to see you all again next year.

North Tipperary goes to the polls on June 5th to elect a new County Council. as this is my first time standing as an election candidate, I offer you an alternative voice in representing the people of the Roscrea Templemore electoral area. I am a native of the parish of Loughmore Castleiney and I currently farm in Castleiney. I have spent a life time involved defending farmers incomes and rural way of life through my involvement of farming organisations. I am also a member of the Board of Centenary Coo since the year 2000 defending the interests of dairy farmers in my area. I have been actively involved with Templemore Loughmore & Moyne Drama groups for a number of years. In the current economic climate, I am aware of the hardships facing most middle income families, mortgage holders and the elderly in our community. When elected, I promise to do my best for you, your family, and your community, and www.FineGael.ie I would be honoured to receive your support on June 5th.

Newport Area Local Elections For: People and their Problems
No.1
Proper Roads Planning reform Putting horses before carts
Patriotism
Against: Pictured with Local Election candidate Noel Monteith (on the right) are : John Clarke, Sean Casey and Kathy Sinnott. In the year of 2009 it is a bit of a shock to hear so many Irish people use the word ‘revolution’. Hopefully it is meant in the context of a major but peaceful change in our approach to various matters which are causing so much worry, fear and anger. Perhaps it has already started: The first salvo that should have woken up those charged with running the country for us, was the demolition of the proposed European Constitution or Lisbon Treaty. In voting NO the people rejected the directions given by so many leaders of the various interested parties, that they should have been warned there was trouble ahead. Most of the political parties, churches, especially the Catholic church, unions, farmers etc. all either sat on the fence or came out in favour of handing over the last remaining scraps of self government we have left – and got egg all over their faces. Declan Ganley, who was blamed for the decision which so upset the hierarchy and has them scrabbling around trying to find some muck to sling at him ever since, had only a minimal effect on the outcome. It was the people who made their own decision in the end. Next up we had the Grey Revolution, the pensioners of all groups, leading the way. Over the years, political commentators have put forward the notion that North Tipp. is a ‘barometer’ for the rest of the country when it comes to forecasting election results. There is so little scope for change in the upcoming local elections in North Tipp this time however, it is doubtful that whatever happens can be regarded as a ‘revolution’. The problem here is that even when we completely disagree with the policies of our ‘own’ party, we cannot bring ourselves to vote for the ‘other crowd’. Given also that all political parties are in themselves dictatorships, as we have seen recently, the only way we will ever have any hope of local democracy is to elect non party candidates. This is the alternative. That is one reason I have put my name forward for election and I am disappointed that there are not more genuine independents in the field. There are many problems which need to be addressed in North Tipperary. The continuous run down of Nenagh General Hospital shows that our much heralded democracy is merely an illusion. This scary fact is obvious to all except those who will not see. The words of the Church of Ireland
Rector at the recent hospital meeting at McDonagh Park received very little attention, which is so disappointing, because that lady hit a couple of nails right on the head, especially in pointing out that democracy is now on trial here. If a body like the HSE can walk all over the wishes of the people, she is absolutely correct. But then, they have been given the green light by our government. The only currency which is of any use in the present situation and which will cause any worry for those in power, is for people who do not agree with their policies to withdraw their support by refusing to vote for them at the upcoming local elections. In other words - a ballot box in one hand and a sign in the other, reading: ‘Give back our hospital’. The disintegration of the roads of North Tipperary is unacceptable and is the worst in living memory. Papering over the cracks is not the answer. I want to be in a position where I can ask the awkward questions, because the present incumbents of the council chamber are not doing so. Examples; why is so much money being squandered on Mickey Mouse projects while there is none for the really serious ones? What are the real reasons for the dramatic deterioration of the roads? In the last local elections I canvassed for votes for only about ten hours – with predictable results. This was my own little ‘ feasibility study’. I did not ask for number one votes – merely to give me anything at all.. What was very surprising was the number of voters who gave me second preference. In many cases this means that they had put me ahead of their own second choice party candidate. In the words of one tally person at the count: ‘If the twos you got were ones, we were out’. While it is understandable that people want to support their very local candidate, I can say that there is not an inch of the Newport area that I do not know, so I consider myself local and available to all. This time I am asking for your number one vote, straight out. It is time to elect new people, to look at things differently. To achieve this, a number one vote for a genuine non party candidate is essential.
Putting the ‘Cart before the Horse’. This sign was erected at great expense and considerable disruption to traffic and was visible at the end of this road if you were lucky enough to make it that far!

Put your Perfectly Independent candidate first Don’t waste ink – Just Mark No.1
Noel Monteith – Local to you - Wherever you are Former member of Silvermines Environmental Action Group. Member of Tipperary No to Lisbon campaign. Member of Institute of Advanced Motorists. Co - founder North Tipperary Junior soccer League: Founder North Tipperary Schoolboys League. It is very difficult for newcomers to get elected, especially if they are non party, all the advantages being with those already there. Last time out I asked no one for a number one. I did, however get a huge number of seconds. This time I am asking that you turn those into number ones, please! ……………………………………………………………… The big issue at the moment is Nenagh Hospital. The only currency we have to use is our vote. Meaning - a ballot box in one hand - and a sign saying “Give Back Our Hospital” in the other. Give the present regime to understand that they would not like you when you are angry! …………………………………………………………………. The roads of North Tipperary are disintegrating as never before, while money that could be used to repair them is being squandered on Mickey Mouse projects. This policy must be reversed. The quality of the materials being used and the repair methods employed is the problem. Papering over the cracks until this election is over is not the answer. .………………………………………………………………… We are being told to get out of the recession by spending money. We could do a little for the traders of North Tipp. by prevailing on the authorities responsible to relax the parking taxes, which are all about collecting revenue, not about traffic flow. If the busy towns of Co. Cork can have two hours free parking, so can we. And in Offaly, the central car parks in Birr are free. ………………………………………………………………… It is understandable that people vote for their very local candidate. I can say that I am familiar with every inch of the Newport area, so I consider myself local to everyone. If you are satisfied with the present situation, fine. If not, give your No. 1 vote to a genuine Independent.

Coping with Change by Elaine Rogers “If you believe you can or cannot do something, you are probably right” – Henry Ford All change is stressful: whether positive change such as moving house, getting married, starting a new job or having a baby, or negative such as experiencing a bereavement, being made redundant or getting divorced. This is because change, whether positive or negative, involves uncertainty and altering your routine.
Members of Nenagh’s writers group at a meeting
Nenagh Writers Group Top of the Pile -
Where there is life, there is change. We change through action, learning, and commitment. Transitions are periods of risk and possibility. They are a period of danger and opportunity. The danger is that we will be unable to cope with the transition and will be scarred by the experience. The opportunity is for personal growth.
New anthology launched by Nenagh Writers Group. There was a flurry of activity in the foyer of the Civic Offices in Nenagh on Friday 24th April last and one could be forgiven for thinking that President Obama was on the way – but no it was the night of the launch of ‘ Top of the Pile’ – the new anthology by Nenagh Writers Group. A large crowd congregated in the canteen area where a cheese and wine reception was held to the strains of the harp played by Marina Carry from Roscrea. After Chairman Mike Roycroft gave the opening address, a variety of readings took place which included poems, excerpts from prose and readings by the newest members. And so after all the endeavours of this collection of scribes who assemble in the Hibernian Inn (Nenagh) on a fortnightly basis, the book was finally launched. The Group is in existence since November 1989 and hope to celebrate their twentieth anniversary later this year. Over the years they have participated in many readings, workshops and on one occasion travelled to the Irish Writers Centre in Parnell Square Dublin to take part in a joint reading. A festive get-together or summer barbeque when the occasion arises is also part of their agenda. The Group meetings on a Wednesday night consist of reading ‘homework’ on the specified themes, discussions and of course some fun and ‘brainstorming’ sessions. The anthology Top of the Pile comprises of prose and poetry by some fourteen members of the Group and includes critiques by
well known personalities such as Micheal O Muircheartaigh, David Norris, Michael D Higgins, Brenda Power and others. The profits from the sale of the book go to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland. At just €10.00 it is great value and the title seems to suggest that you drop anything else you are reading and pick it up. You will not be disappointed. Website: nenaghwritersgroup.ie The book is on sale in the following shops: Nenagh - Easons, The Bookshop, Walsh’s & Costello’s Thurles - The Bookworm Templemore - Walsh’s Bookshop Clonmel - Easons Limerick - The Hunt Museum Shop
"The only sane response to change is to find the opportunity in it" – Jeff Jarvis Too much of a good thing is not a good thing. Too much change causes chaos; too much security keeps us stuck. When managed properly, security (material, emotional, physical) provides stability, and change provides growth potential. There are 4 basic phases when we embark on any change process: 1. Shock or Fear - feelings of helplessness, powerlessness, low morale, and resistance 2. Denial - a natural coping mechanism and buys us time to process information 3. Anger/ Ineffectiveness - a reluctance to adapt to change; we may under-perform in different areas of life. Can lead to blaming others rather than seeing the situation for what it is. 4. Letting Go/ Moving On – we begin to come to terms with the changes, let go of the past and look forward to the future. This final stage brings positive feelings and is the catalyst for personal growth Creating change doesn’t guarantee that we will get what we want. Our success depends on how clear we are about our motivation for change. Not any action will move us forward. Only appropriate action will. Even a dead fish floats downstream after all! Maybe the way forward happens to be upstream. Oh! There’s that Fear again! We want to take the easy way, don’t we? We want safe and cosy, don’t we? Well then, we have to stay where we are, but if we do, we then have no right to complain about it! To embrace the change process, we must learn to differentiate between cause and effect. Any attempt to merely change ef-
fects (our actions) will not address the root of the cause (our thoughts). In order to be sure that we benefit from change, we need to take the time to honestly explore WHY we want to make the change. We need to gain a clear sense of who we are, what we are about, and what our values are. Once we achieve self-knowledge and a clear sense of purpose, we can move out of our comfort zone towards growth, achievement, and increased self-awareness. We should observe to become aware, be aware to understand, understand in order to develop, and then develop towards selfactualisation (Kurt Goldstein’s definition – “the motive to realise all of one's potentialities”.) Coping strategies when going through a Change process of any kind: Stress takes energy. Rather than sucumming to stress and excess usage of energy, take special care of your body and:

well (little and often) think a negative thought – turn it around and gain something positive Try some affirmations: Affirmations (Something declared to be true; a positive statement or assertion) help to program our unconscious, so it seeks out from the universe for all that you affirm: “I am living the life I desire” “I feel healthy and will never smoke again” “I am the perfect weight and shape, I love my body” “Money comes to me frequently and easily” “The universe will provide me with all that I need and desire” “I am whole and perfect, strong and powerful, loving and happy” “I am grateful for all that I have and appreciate those who support me” By repeating affirmations regularily, we are asserting these thoughts to become our reality. Try it out. Another way to positively move through change is to constantly smile when you can, and have a good belly laugh every day, especially if at yourself! Moral of the story? Be proactive in the change process and make sure it works to your advantage. Elaine Rogers of www.seefincoaching.com is a qualified Business Coach and Trainer. Paul Collins. “This summer Guinness wants to celebrate all that is great about hurling. Given that we are currently celebrating 250 years of Guinness and 125 years of the GAA, it’s only right that we get the fans involved and get them to join in the celebrations,” said Guinness Brand Manager, Barry Fitzpatrick. “There has been too much talk already about the Liam Mac Carthy being destined to return to Kilkenny in September. There is huge potential for some serious upsets this summer. Galway and Antrim are now playing in Leinster; there is a real buzz in Dublin with Anthony Daly on board, whilst the Munster championship is looking near impossible to call.” “Every county will have its reason to be optimistic and the Guinness Hurling Supporters Nights will act as a rallying call to the fans. Basic Rules for Dogs NEWSPAPERS: If you have to go to the bathroom while playing in the front yard, always use the newspaper that's placed in the driveway every morning for that purpose. VISITORS: Quickly determine which guest is afraid of dogs. Charge across the room, barking loudly and leap playfully on this person. If the human falls down on the floor and starts crying, lick its face and growl gently to show your concern.
Tangrams Tangrams are ancient Chinese jigsaw puzzles. However, unlike the jigsaws you know, there are just 7 pieces which can be rearranged to make literally thousands of pictures! Paste the large square onto cardboard, then cut along the lines to make 7 shapes. Remember - the puzzle pieces must touch, but not overlap.
BARKING: Because you are a dog, you are expected to bark. So bark a lot. Your owners will be very happy to hear you protecting their house. Especially late at night while they are sleeping safely in their beds. There is no more secure feeling for a human than to keep waking up in the middle of the night and hearing your protective bark, bark, bark. LICKING: Always take a BIG drink from your water dish immediately before licking your human. Humans prefer clean tongues. Be ready to fetch your human a towel. HOLES: Rather than digging a BIG hole in the middle of the yard and upsetting your human, dig a lot of smaller holes all over the yard so they won't notice. If you arrange a little pile of dirt on one side of each hole, maybe they'll think it's gophers. There are never enough holes in the ground. Strive daily to do your part to help correct this problem.
DOORS: The area directly in front of a door is always reserved for the family dog to sleep. THE ART OF SNIFFING: Humans like to be sniffed - Everywhere. It is your duty, as the family dog, to accommodate them. DINING ETIQUETTE: Always sit under the table at dinner, especially when there are guests, so you can clean up any food that falls on the floor. It's also a good time to practice your sniffing. HOUSEBREAKING: Housebreaking is very important to humans, so break as much of the house as possible. GOING FOR WALKS: Rules of the road: When out for a walk with your master or mistress, never go to the bathroom on your own lawn. COUCHES: It is perfectly permissible to lie on the new couch after all your humans have gone to bed. PLAYING: If you lose your footing while chasing a ball or stick, use the flower bed to absorb your fall so you don't injure yourself. CHASING CATS: When chasing cats, make sure you never quite catch them. It spoils all the fun. CHEWING: Make a contribution to the fashion industry. Eat a shoe.
Here are three pictures which can be made using your Tangrams.

dren everywhere. The original musical adaptation of the beloved Grimm Brother’s tale about the little girl in the red cape is an absolute delight for children of all ages. Age Recommendation: Ideal for Ages 4+
For Bookings please call the Box Office on 0504 90204 or log on to It is, however, on the continent where www.thesourceartscentre.ie The Deans are making a huge reputation. They regularly tour and play festivals in France, Spain,Holland, Switzerland and the UK. Their gig at The Source comes between a gig at a rock festival in Spain and an appearance at the famous Montreaux Festival in Geneva. Comprising brothers Gavin and Gary Dean on Guitar and Bass with Gary Keon on Drums, their sound is based in the classic retro rock and blues of the late sixties and early seventies. Their energetic live performances carry a maturity that is beyond their young years. Aged just 18, 19 and 20, it is all just starting for this Irish phenomenon. Catch them while you can!

You may have heard people say that chocolate will kill dogs? Does that make sense? If I can eat chocolate, why can't my dog? It turns out that, for dogs, a chemical in chocolate called theobromine is the source of the problem. Theobromine is similar to caffeine. Theobromine is toxic to a dog when it ingests between 100 and 150 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Different types of chocolate contain different amounts of theobromine: It would take 20 ounces of milk chocolate to kill a 20-pound dog, but only 2 ounces of baker's chocolate or 6 ounces of semisweet chocolate. It is not that hard

for a dog to get into something like an Easter basket full of chocolate eggs and bunnies and gobble up a pound or two of chocolate. If the dog is small, that could be deadly. It turns out that chocolate poisoning is actually not as unusual as it sounds. For a human being, caffeine is toxic at levels of 150 milligrams per kilogram of body weight . That's the same as for dogs! Humans generally weigh a lot more than dogs, but small children can get into trouble with caffeine or chocolate if they consume too much of it. Infants are especially vulnerable because they don't eliminate caffeine from the bloodstream nearly as quickly as adults.
