Jokes A young woman was taking an afternoon nap. After she woke up, she told her husband, "I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's Day. What do you think it means?" "You'll know tonight," he said. That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it--only to find a book entitled "The Meaning of Dreams."

Save the Dolphins? What did the cows do wrong? Tommy was almost 29 years old. Most of his friends had already gotten married, and Tommy just bounced from one relationship to the next. Finally a friend asked him, "What's the matter, are you looking for the perfect woman? Are you THAT particular? Can't you find anyone who suits you?" "No," Tommy replied. "I meet a lot of nice girls, but as soon as I bring them home to meet my parents, my mother doesn't like them. So I keep on looking!"

"Listen," his friend suggested, "Why don't you find a girl who's just like your dear ole Mother?" Many weeks past before Tommy and his friend got together again. "So Tommy. Did you find the perfect girl yet. One that's just like your Mother?" Tommy shrugged his shoulders, "Yes I found one just like Mom. My mother loved her, they became great friends." "Excellent!!! So,.... Are you and this girl engaged, yet?" "I'm afraid not. My Father can't stand her!"
When my printer's type began to grow faint, I called a local repair shop where a friendly man informed me that the printer probably needed only to be cleaned. Because the store charged €50 for such cleanings, he told me, I might be better off reading the printer's manual and trying the job myself. Pleasantly surprised by his candor, I asked, "Does your boss know that you discourage business?" "Actually it's my boss's idea," the employee replied sheepishly. "We usually make more money on repairs if we let
people try to fix things themselves first."
Little Mary was at her first wedding and gaped at the entire ceremony. When it was over, she asked her mother, "Why did the lady change her mind?" Her mother asked, "What do you mean?" "Well, she went down the aisle with one man, and came back with another one."
An aged farmer and his wife were leaning against the edge of their pigpen when the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would mark their golden wedding anniversary. "Let's have a party, Honey," she suggested. "Let's kill a pig." The farmer scratched his grizzled head. "Gee, Ethel," he finally answered, "I don't see why the pig should take the blame for something that happened fifty years ago."

and not add to the huge number of unwanted kittens each year. Female cats can be neutered from six months of age. If a cat has already been in season, she can be neutered up to about three weeks after the season.
People use excuses such as their pets will get lazy and fat. This is not true as a proper diet and exercise will keep pets healthy and fit. Another myth is that females should have at least one litter of kittens but cats are perfectly healthy and fulfilled without reproducing and it is also a myth that neutering changes a pet's personality. Pete Wedderburn of Pete the Vet A female cat usuon TV3 says “Early spaying ally has two litand neutering is the healthy ters of kittens choice for pets. Research each year. Many never find a home and die a premature death. The only reliable method of preventing a cat having repeated litters of kittens is neutering. Cats are difficult to contain as they climb walls and fences. Tipperary Friends of Animals appeals to people to neuter their cats
Bear the following in mind if there is still a doubt. An unspayed female cat, her unneutered mate and all of their offspring, producing 2 litters with 2.8 surviving kittens per year, can total 11,606,077 cats in only 9 years. (Source: Spay USA) The Society runs a subsidized neutering voucher scheme for pets whose owners cannot afford the full cost. For more information phone 0868163707.

Motoring Preparing for Spring Many cars, trucks and SUVs have just weathered the harsh conditions and corrosive elements associated with winter, including freezing rain, snow, ice, sand and salt. To be prepared for the changing weather and road conditions of spring, here's a simple checklist of tips motorists should perform to help them during spring: • As temperatures change, so does your tyre pressure. Proper tyre inflation is essential for increased automotive safety, optimum driving performance and significant cost savings, including better fuel mileage. So, check that air pressure now. Tyres should be inflated to the vehicle manufacturer recommendations. • Replacing your air filter can increase your vehicle's life expectancy and fuel efficiency, especially during warmer months. Salt, sand and other impurities may have been kicked into your car's air filtration system during the winter months.
• With wetter and sometimes unpredictable spring weather ahead, having enough tread on your tyres becomes even more important as reduced tyre grip can be hazardous. Not sure how to tell whether you need new tyres? Go into any tyre shop or garage and they will be able to advise you. • If you need to buy new tyres, remember, while they may all look the same on the outside, not all tyres are created equal on the inside. How you drive and the weather conditions you face should play an important role in selecting what tyre is right for you. • There are many fluids that require attention, including the engine oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid. Spring is the perfect time to make sure they are all clean and at the proper levels.

Keep Drama Off The Roads As the race to the Oscars hots up, young filmmakers in Ireland can win their own prestigious gong for filmmaking talent with the Keep Drama off the Roads film competition being held by Setanta Insurance. The competition, which provides young film makers with the opportunity to win €3000 and a public screening, has had its deadline extended to 14th February following requests from filmmakers eager to submit their entry. The Keep Drama off the Roads campaign is looking for young people aged 16-25 to create a short film reflecting the devastating effects of drug driving. Picking the Right Present for the Special Woman in Your Life Finding the right Valentine's Day gift for the woman in your life is all about thought and understanding. Most women just want to know they're considered to be special. Buying a Valentine's Day gift for a woman can be a stressful event. It doesn't have to be though. Gift-shoppers just need to take a deep breath, relax, and think about things that would make a particular female's life better, nicer, easier, or less stressful. That said, here are a few starter ideas for stumped Valentine's Day shoppers. Flowers... Delivered to Her Work The key to successful flower-giving is not so much the flowers themselves, but the woman being able to flaunt the flowers in front of her friends or co-workers. On the other hand, the bouquet should be substantial enough that it's actually worth flaunting.

Flowers for all Occasions
Jewellery This will score no points for creativity, but will score big points when it comes to making a woman feel special. There's nothing wrong with buying something somebody needs, but the whole point of jewelry is the extravagance. The same idea applies to perfume. Tip: Ask a female's friend what she'd like to have. Or, pay attention to the kinds of jewelry she may already have and then purchase something to accent her collection. Gift Vouchers Again, this scores zero points on the creativity scale, but being practical is sexy in itself. Better yet, offer to take her on a shopping spree ... and to hold her purse while she browses. Warning: Giving this gift at the last minute will just make the giver look like there was no forethought put into it. This may be a gift that is best given in advance, and scheduled to take place on Valentine's Day.

I’m at home, Get me out of here!!! by Elaine Rogers
Scenario: Your partner/spouse has a “normal” job, travelling to and from work. You, on the other hand work from the home, within those same four walls, day in, day out. What happens by the time the weekend comes along? You are bursting to get out somewhere and your partner is looking forward to a cosy night in watching a DVD with glass of wine and take-away in hand.
Sound familiar? For a lot of home workers (and home carers), the very same building they fell in love with some time before, becomes their “prison”. They begin to resent the place and eventually all it represents. The catastrophic consequence is the impact it can have on a relationship/marriage. So where is the balance? How can one get around these issues?
Travel Caribbean Holidays By Catherine Flanagan Maguire Personal Travel Counsellor - North Tipperary
By ensuring we get out daily, we are avoiding the claustrophobic feeling of being “cooped up” in the house, and the resentment that inevitably comes with that feeling. As I write this blog, I am sitting in a hotel bar, utilising the great wifi, food and atmosphere, while getting my work done.
By having a definitive weekend time, plans can be made in advance and compromises agreed. If every week does not suit the travelling partner, then agree on a fortnightly family night out, monthly night away, or monthly trip to the theatre or movies. Whatever works will drive the compromise and all parties will be satisfied.
As a coach, I hear about this a lot, and it sometimes spills over into Time Management issues. It is important for the home worker to have clear boundaries between work and non work related tasks.
For the traveller, a degree of understanding is required. Anyone who has been house bound recently due to the adverse weather conditions, will have This will be addressed in your next a clear understanding of what issue of the “Tipp Tatler” titled “Cabin-Fever” feels like. “Where did my weekend go?”. You enjoy the simple pleasures of life ? a ribbon of white sandy beach along tranquil turquoise waters, a frosty frozen cocktail, the warmth of the sun on your face, and warm hospitality that begins with a smile. The Caribbean is a combination of breathtakingly beautiful islands and sun-drenched beaches. It?s a way of life and an attitude that says, ?Let?s enjoy ourselves here and now.? It?s no wonder why the Caribbean draws visitors from all over the world. An unhurried pace and a philosophy that focuses on celebrating each day continues to delight travelers. A Caribbean vacation is the perfect antidote to the over-booked schedules of urban living. Come and enjoy yourself, and put stress on hold. There?s a lounge chair here on the beach waiting for you. St. Lucia Known for its gorgeous topography, St. Lucia offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the Caribbean. The Windward island, in the eastern Caribbean, features mountains, rainforest, and its trademark volcanic peaks?the Pitons. St. Lucia?s volcanic origin allows visitors to experience a ?drive-in? volcano and soak in sulphur springs.
Activities abound on a St. Lucia vacation. The lush island offers botanical gardens to explore, plantations to tour, fishing villages to visit, golf courses to play, and white-sand
beaches to relax on. Watersports are a popular pastime, including deepsea fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing. Many who vacation in St. Lucia return home with an island-made handicraft, such as sculpted wood or a batik sarong. The most popular events on the island, attracting many visitors each year, are Carnival and the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. Gros Inlet, known as the island?s nightlife capital, features a raucous Friday night ?jumpup? party every week. Those who travel to St. Lucia often indulge in one of the island?s many fine spas, which often include native ingredients in their treatments. U.S. visitors to St. Lucia must carry a valid passport. Nonstop air service to the island is offered from several U.S. cities. A departure tax of $26 is applied to air tickets at the time of purchase. Rental cars are widely available. Unless the renter has an international driver?s license, he or she must purchase a temporary permit in St. Lucia for $20. Driving is on the left and mountainous turns can be treacherous. English is the official language, although many citizens also speak a French-based patois. Average temperatures in St. Lucia?s tropical climate range from 70°F to 90°F, with rainy season occurring from June to November. Currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Sly Computer Virus defrauding Tipperary People As a home and small business computer consultant, Peter Harris is used to getting calls about viruses. But in the last week he has had far too many calls about one particular virus. People’s computers are getting infected, and in the worst case people are giving these crooks their credit card details. The first people know of it, he says, is when a new window opens onto their computer screen and tells them that the virus “Worm.Win32.NetSky” was detected on their computer. It will then start doing a fake virus scan on the computer, and come up with a made-
up list of viruses. (In reality, it itself is the only virus.) And then it gives a message that to get rid of these viruses you have to buy a product called “Internet Security 2010”. If you do that, Peter stresses, these crooks now have your credit card number, to do with whatever they want, and of course have no intention of solving your virus problems. The trouble with this virus is that it’s so plausible, and that’s why his clients – intelligent people all – are getting fooled by it.
His advice is, naturally – don’t click on the link! Indeed it’s good policy to never click on any link that you haven’t yourself proactively chosen. If you have done so, contact your credit card company immediately.
You also need to install anti-virus software so this, or something similar, won’t happen again. There’s a very good product which is free to home-users, called AVG. Details on his website.
He goes on to explain that since you’ve seen this message, your computer is infected with that virus, and you need to remove it. He has put free instructions on how to do that on his website www.needanerd.ie or of course you can ask him or one of the other local reputable computer companies to do it for you.
If you’d like more information on this topic, or to schedule an interview with Peter, contact him on 086 804 4084

Weekly training and weekend championships both at home and abroad are her top priority In the little bit of spare time Emby has she can be found out on the golf course. She was one of the founder members and first captain of the South Eastern Ladies Junior Golfing Alliance and also a member of the Midland Ladies Golfing Union. Abuse
by Jim O Shea
(Continued from previous issue)
Abuse of children
Emotional neglect is part of emotional abuse and may cause severe psychological problems for children. This type of abuse involves inadequate nurturing or affection, and might be labelled as rejecting a child. The child picks up the message that they are unwanted. Of course, some mothers cannot give what they have not got, because of their own traumatic childhood. I have looked at this in my articles on shame. Still, the abused Imani in Naomei Will’s book made herself give affection to her child, and practised replacing hateful words with loving and healing words. When the mother’s emotional love and affection is absent the effects on the child are similar to those stemming from psychological abuse.
writers claim that emotional abuse is more destructive to children than sexual or physical abuse. Physical child abuse is an adult’s physical aggression against a child that causes injury. It doesn’t matter whether the adult intends to hurt the child or not. These include striking the child, burning them, shaking, pushing, pinching, or biting the child. Sometimes even the unborn suffer physical abuse if the mother ingests drugs such as alcohol or other substances. These can cause serious neurological and physiological damage to the unborn child. Another form of physical abuse for infants is the shaken baby syndrome whereby a frustrated caregiver shakes the baby roughly to stop it crying. The baby’s neck muscles cannot support the baby’s head, and the brain bounces around inside its skull that can lead to neurological problems and even death. From a historical point of view I came from a generation where physical abuse was taken as the norm. Physical abuse in school was euphemised as corporal punishment, and it was the norm in most schools. There are arguments that corporal punishment is not physical abuse, and people did not see anything wrong in it. I think that it is, and that there is no excuse for it. It sends out the message that physical force is an acceptable response to problems.
Emotional abuse can hinder the psychological and social development of children, and affect their intelligence, memory, attention, and moral development. Above all it can freeze their emotions, leading to a pain filled life as adults, where there is every chance that they, too, may become abusers in an effort to kill their rage and pain. When feelings are frozen children are no longer able to attach to their primary caregiver. They lose their sense of trust in others Continued in next issue) when they cannot trust those who are supposed to be caring for them. Jim O’Shea works as a counsellor from Their wonderful creativity is damaged, and they do not experience any enthusiasm for life. They may become dependent and have a poor self-image. There is every chance that they may be very disruptive or very passive at school, and be underachievers. Many children suffer from depression, and some of this comes from living in an abusive environment. This depression can bring up suicidal thoughts. Child victims may also suffer from alienation, personality disorders, neediness, flashbacks and nightmares. All of this is a terrible price to pay for the dysfunctions of another, and some
