Jokes Bidding at a local auction was proceeding furiously when the auctioneer suddenly announced, "A gentleman in this room has lost a wallet containing €10,000. If it is returned, he will pay a reward of €2,000." There was a moment's silence, and then from the back of the room came the cry, "Two thousand five hundred!"

The little boy greeted his grandmother with a hug and said, "I'm so happy to see you grandma. Now maybe daddy will do the trick he has been promising us." The grandmother was curious.
"What trick is that my dear?" she asked. The little boy replied, "I heard daddy tell mammy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit us again."
A school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honour" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."
"I'm worried about you always being at the bottom of your class," said the father to his son. "Don't worry Dad," he replied. "They still teach the same thing at both ends."

Tyre Safety If you’re heading off for a weekend break or a longer Summer holiday it’s important to ensure your tyres are in good shape. Tyre maintenance Correct Inflation Pressure Inflation pressure is important, as the pressurised air inside your tyre has to support the weight of your vehicle and its load. Tyre pressures may vary depending on the vehicle model and the load being carried. We recommend that you check your tyre pressures regularly against the manufacturer’s specifications for your vehicle (refer to your owners handbook) at your local service station.

Wheel Alignment & Balancing
Day Trip This Museum in Foynes, Co. Limerick recalls a lost romantic era (19391945) - when a quaint and scenic Irish village became the epicentre of commercial aviation. The famous flying boats were frequent visitors, carrying passengers, celebrities, politicians and refugees.
Templemore QUICK-FIT TYRE
The Museum is the number one visitor attraction in the County of Limerick, attracting 35,000 visitors annually and is located approximately 40km from Limerick city, 50km from Shannon Airport and a 20 minute journey from Shannon Ferries. It ise on the doorstep to Ireland’s busiest tourism county (Kerry) and only a 25 minute drive from Ireland’s prettiest village Adare. The management firmly believe Foynes and other attractions on the N69 have the potential to create a tourism hub in West Limerick and perhaps Foynes can become the next Westport or Loop Head with the beauty of the Shannon Estuary on its banks, the exposure Wild Atlantic Way will bring, more cruise liners visiting and plans to improve the N69 due to the rapid expansion of the port. With all this, I think you will agree that Foynes is well worth a visit. For more information on the Flying Boat & Maritime Museum and Airshow Event - the website address is http://www.flyingboatmuseum.com/.
You may hear the terms ‘wheel alignment’ and ‘wheel balancing’ used interchangeably, but they are separate issues, both important in the upkeep of your tyres and vehicle. Wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. Aligning your wheels can help maximise tyre life and ensure that your vehicle drives straight and true when on level surfaces. The symptoms of a misaligned wheel include:
gauged by checking for any heavy spots on the wheel-tyre combination and compensating for such flaws by placing a measured balancing weight on the opposite side of the wheel from where the heavy spot is located. The symptoms of a wheel that is out of balance include: vibration in the steering wheel, seat or floor-pan, usually at motorway speeds ‘scalloped’ or ‘cupped’ wear pattern on the tyres. If your tyres demonstrate any of the symptoms outlined above, we advise that you seek advice from your local authorised tyre repair centre. Tyre condition
Uneven or rapid tyre wear. Pulling or drifting away from a straight line. Drifting on a straight, level road. Spokes of the steering wheel tending toward one side while driving on a straight, level road. Wheel balancing allows the tyres and wheels to spin without causing any vibrations. Tyres displaying signs of deterioration should be removed and not used on the road. There are several signs of deteriorating tyres you should keep an eye out for: cracking/crazing of the side wall of the tyre, caused by its flexing,

Super Sunday Fundraiser for North Tipperary Hospice A great fundraising event is taking place on bank holiday August 3rd in Bowes beer garden Thurles, where local bands and Bowes bar themselves have joined forces to raise funds for the North Tipp Hospice. The hospice manages and funds the local “Suir Haven” cancer support centre in Thurles along with "Suaimhneas" in Nenagh. “Both centres are community based where everyone is welcome whether one is living with cancer or affected by it including family, carers and friends. The centres offer emotional support, practical help and information in a safe, positive and confidential environment. All of the services are provided free of charge. There is a director of services employed in each centre and all others who work there are volunteers. Without our volunteers the centres would not be viable. We depend on volunteer therapists, counsellors, meet and greet people, outside and inside maintenance people”. Thurles is lucky to have such a great service locally which has been of great benefit to so many people, and when searching for a charity to run the event for North Tipp Hospice was an obvious choice, especially after meeting with Suir Haven representative Maria McGrath who was thoroughly delighted the event was taking place and has given 100 % support. There will be volunteers from Suir Haven present on the day to help with the running of the event. The initial idea was the brain child of Pat Wright and John Kenneally both from Trad Rock band Acoustra, and as soon as they pitched the idea
to Publican Michael Bowe and local musician Tom Lyons the ball started rolling straight away. Tom runs a very successful singer songwriter night on the 1st Friday of every month in Bowes called “Whis5pm every Thurs Arts Centre tle This” and a lot of the bands performing at the fundraiser on the day Roscrea: 7pm every Thurs Abbey Hall are regulars from the event. Tom has organised the bands and will be there all day, hosting and playing along with some of the musicians. There will be great music all day with all bands providing their services for free. The day will kick off at 4pm with the brilliant Keltic Swing, Joe and Pj of the group volunteered straight away. The music will run until late with such bands as Jim Fanning and Friends, Eoin Ryan (Bono), Kelsey Creek, The Double B’s, James McGrath, The Bootleg’s, The P-45’s and last on stage will be Folk/Rock/ Trad band Acoustra, which features local accordion player Pat Wright they will also be joined by Tom Lyons on electric guitar. There will also be a late night jam session on stage in the main bar Devils Bit Macra Tag Rugby Team winners of the Macra Tag Rugby compefrom 10 pm. tition held in Moneygall recently Along with live music there will be a free BBQ, fun events and entertainment. Tom Lyons and Pat Wright will host the event and keep everything running smoothly. Tickets cost €10 and can be purchased from Bowes Bar or at the door on the night. People are advised passwords. Local Enterprise Office Tipperary declared open for business A major step forward in the provision of unified support for job creation in Tipperary was taken today with the official launch by Minister John Perry TD of the Tipperary Local Enterprise Office at Ballingarrane, Clonmel. A large crowd comprising Elected Representatives, Members of the Oireachtas, Development Agencies, business community etc. gathered for the official launch of the Local Enterprise Office. The role of the Local Enterprise Office is to promote entrepreneurship, enterprise and job creation and it will be the firststop-shop for anyone starting a new business in addition to those wishing to expand or develop an existing enterprise. The Local Enterprise Office is head quartered in Clonmel with front line services and a full staff compliment also available at the Civic Offices in Nenagh. The event was attended by Ministers John Perry and Tom Hayes, Seamus Healy TD, Councillor Michael Fizgerald, Cathaoirleach and members of the new Tipperary County Council, Chief Executive Joe Mac Grath, the Regional Director of Enterprise Ireland Jerry Moloney in addition to representatives from other support agencies such as Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, MicroFinance, Crafts Council of Ireland, Department of Social Protection, NERA and Revenue Commissioners. Speakers at the launch included Michael Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Jerry Moloney, Regional Director Enterprise Ireland, Minister for Small Business John Perry, TD and Rita Guinan, Head of Local Enterprise who acted as MC for the launch. Addressing the crowd of circa 70 business interests Jerry Moloney, Regional Director Enterprise Ireland stated that the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) operates under a Service Level Agreement between the Local Authority and Enterprise Ireland with exchequer funding coming through the Centre of Excellence in Enterprise Ireland based in Shannon. “I look forward to a close working relation-
ship with Tipperary County Council into the future” Mr. Moloney concluded. Rita Guinan, Head of Local Enterprise said that “the new Local Enterprise Office will be to the forefront in delivering business supports on the ground and will collaborate with other agencies and the private sector to maximize opportunities, funding streams, inward investment etc. Indeed the 2 CEBs prior to their dissolution awarded grants of over €1.5 million and paid out over €1 million to almost 100 micro enterprises (firms employing 10 or less) over the past 26 months. During that period 115 full time and 32 part time jobs were supported while 217 training courses with 2,308 participants were delivered. 213 individuals were mentored to address issues within their business. The Local Enterprise Office will build on the progress made by the CEBs and will make every effort to incentivize business start up in the County. Tipperary needs more start ups and we need more of the businesses supported to grow”. Ms. Guinan concluded that “People who want to take that step, take that risk and start a business, deserve all the help they can get” and responding to the Minister’s address she said that “the Local Enterprise Office in Tipperary will endeavour to deliver on the promise of a new and enhanced service for local businesses.” Minister Perry was presented with a selection of locally produced food and craft products by the Cathaoirleach to commemorate his visit to Ballingarrane House. If you are thinking of starting or expanding a business or if you are experiencing difficulties in your operation why not contact the Local Enterprise Office today at Ballingarrane House, Ballingarrane Science & Technology Park, Cahir Road, Clonmel Tel 052-6129466 or Civic Offices, Limerick Road, Nenagh 0761 06 5000, e-mail leo@tipperarycoco.ie web: www.localenterprise.ie/tipperary and let’s talk business.

Get in Shape this Summer! It’s that time of year. The sun is shining, we’re getting out the summer clothes and feeling a little uncomfortable about our bodies after a long winter of comfort eating and sitting by the fire. Fear not, help is at hand to get you in shape and feeling better about yourself. Máire Harney and Annalouise Muldoon from the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science at WIT offer some tips to increase your physical activity levels, tone up and ultimately feel better in your summer. Get Active! The physical activity guidelines recommended that all adults do at least 30 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous activity on at least 5 days of the week for all the health benefits that are associated with activity. However, for weight loss, of 12lbs per week, it is recommended that you increase this volume to 200-300 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per week. This can include walking, running, swimming or any other aerobic activity that you enjoy. To work at least at a moderate intensity you should get a little sweaty and be slightly out of breath but you should still be able to chat to your exercise buddy! Alternatively you can work at a vigorous intensity where you get sweaty and can’t hold a conversation but can maintain the exercise for at least 20 mins. The harder you work, the less time you need to work for!! Why weight! There are lots of different types of weight training. The good news is that they don’t all result in increasing the size of your muscles! There are so many benefits to doing some form of resistance training; you can increase your bone density (to help avoid osteoporosis), you can increase your muscle tone which will make you stronger and look fitter, and you can also increase your metabolism (which helps your body to burn more fat throughout the day). You don’t have to go to the gym to do weight training. Once you are using some form of resistance e.g. your body weight or dumbbells or full water bottles you can achieve your aim. There are lots of apps and programmes on social media sites which will guide you on programmes to help tone the main areas of the body. To tone your muscle, you should do roughly 15-25 repetitions of each exercise. Build up the repetitions as you are able. Remember, the key with all types of exercise is that if it feels comfortable, you need to change
something to make it a little harder to keep getting benefits. Get started and set some goals! To help you achieve the most benefits from your efforts, think about what you want to achieve and follow these simple steps to set yourself some exercise goals: S pecific You have a much better chance of achieving the goal if you are very specific on what your goal is. E.g. A general goal would be to get in shape but a specific goal would be to plan to be active 5 days a week. M easureable Make sure you can measure your progress toward the achievement of each goal you set. E.g. that you will build from 10 squats to 100 squats in 4 weeks. A ttainable Identify the goals that are most important to you and figure out ways you can achieve them by planning the steps you need to take and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. E.g. to build to 100 squats in 4 weeks, add 20 extra squats each week. R ealistic Your goal must be something you are willing and able to work towards. E.g. from couch to 5k, walking or running programme in 2 months, rather than a couch to marathon in two months!! T imely Goals should be set within a time frame. If there is no set time frame then there will be no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? The hardest part of any new exercise programme is getting started so don’t put it off any longer, set some goals and get active today. Do you think YOU might like to learn how to prescribe exercise and teach exercise classes for other people? Then contact Annalouise Muldoon or Máire Harney at WIT Fitness School, part of the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science in WIT, at fitness-school@wit.ie for information on our short, part-time courses on Fitness Instruction and Group Fitness Instruction which are starting next October in WIT. These courses meet the standards required by REPS Ireland. More information is available at www.wit.ie/parttime.

Unique Achievement – 5 member of the one family from Moycarkey Borris who have all qualified for the National Community Games Athletics Finals in Athlone in August. L to R: Dillon, Jack, Anna, Daniel & David Ryan
Revival opens in Moneygall
Revival Vintage Shop/Art Gallery opened on Main St. Moneygall on the 4th of July. Jean Kelly - Morgan opened the shop/gallery to encourage people to get back to what they enjoy, and revive Art and Crafts. Locals have the opportunity to exhibit their art work in the gallery and crafts people leave in their goods on a consignment basis. They also upcycle furniture and sell bric a brac and vintage items.
One of Ireland's foremost songwriters Jimmy MacCarthy has been announced as the headline act for this year’s Terryglass Arts Festival which runs from Wednesday 13th - Sunday 17th August. MacCarthy will bring his sell-out “Prophecy/ Conspiracy?” tour to Terryglass Church on Friday 15th August in what promises to be a magical and unforgettable evening of musical treats. Having worked with major Irish Artists such as Christy Moore, Mary Black, Mary Coughlan and Maura O’Connell and released four albums of his own, Jimmy’s Prophecy/Conspiracy? tour pays homage to old favourites such as ’Neidin’, while introducing more recent work such as ‘Andalucian Gray’, ‘Children of Mile’, and ‘Prophecy / Conspiracy?’ Announcing the concert, Festival Chairperson Andrea Egan said, “We are delighted to have secured Jimmy MacCarthy as this year’s headline act in Terryglass Church. Jimmy has a universal appeal to all ages and backgrounds and we are looking forward to a wonderful evening of music and song.” “Jimmy has written most well known songs in the Irish contemporary repertoire including ’No Frontiers’, ‘Missing you’, ‘Ride On’ ,‘Katie’, ‘The Bright Blue Rose’, ‘The Contender’
and ’Mystic Lipstick’. It is a real coup for the Terryglass Arts Festival to have secured an artist of Jimmy’s calibre and we know there will be a huge demand for tickets,” she concluded. A native of Macroom Co. Cork, Jimmy MacCarthy was singing in pubs and busking from an early age. His first single ‘Miles of Eyes’ was released in 1981, followed by ‘Like in the Movies’, and ‘Adam at the Window’. From there he went on to release four albums of his own ‘The Dreamer’, ‘Song of the Singing Horseman’, The Moment’ and his most recent album ‘Hey Ho Believe’ in 2010. Christopher MacCarthy Wall, Jimmy’s nephew, will be accompanying him during the Terryglass Arts Festival. Chris brings an exciting new dimension to the tour, a former member of ‘Air Traffic’, a band, signed with EMI, who appeared on Later with Jools Holland and supported Snow Patrol on their UK Arena Tour. Early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment due to an anticipated demand for tickets. Tickets cost €25 and are available to purchase now from The Derg Inn Shop, Terryglass or phone 087-2181663. Tickets will also be available from Mid July online at www.terryglassartsfestival.ie For further information please contact Terryglass Arts Festival by email at info@terryglassartsfestival.ie.

Sinker catapults readers into the life of law dropout Baker Forley as he signs up for the world’s most controversial and deadly sport, professional drinking. If he plays it right, wins some games and gets out early enough, he might just escape with money, selfrespect and at least some of his health. Sponsored by a struggling singles bar back in Derry, Baker and his licentious American coach Ratface head to sunbaked Mallorca for the infamous Bullfight boozing battle. As protests rage over the rights and wrongs of the reviled sport, he takes his seat alongside some of its most colourful combatants. But the heat plays havoc with the ginger Irishman’s game and a drunken glance at a mysterious Arabian beauty earns a decisive punch from her bodyguard. Her husband, a beer-
swilling Saudi oil baron, invites Baker and Ratface to his extraordinary, Gaudidesigned home to make amends – and makes a cash offer they can’t refuse. As illicit lust flares in the boiling heat, Baker soon learns the real reason he’s there – he’s about to be framed for murder. After days of industrial-level drinking - and dealing with Ratface’s random groping can he break free? Inspired by the power and complexity of addiction, Sinker is a thrilling, irreverent yet often joyful take on a hopeless but changing male drinking culture.

Rainwater Harvesting: Is it Worth it? Sharing Our Experiences of Rainwater Harvesting in Cloughjordan Ecovillage Water is a hot topic in Ireland in 2014 and one that we are going to hear more about in the future. With water metering on the way, many Irish householders are looking for more information about how to make savings on water use as well as how to reduce waste. Cloughjordan Ecovillage is hosting an EcoLearn day called “Rainwater Harvesting: Is It Worth It? on Saturday 26 July from 11am to 5pm to share first-hand knowledge and experiences of Rainwater Harvesting.
Irish water supplies are under stress due to increasing individual consumption, changes to rainfall patterns caused by climate change, and because of population growth. Samuel Taylor Coleridge could have been right when he said “Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink”! In Ireland the average person uses about 150 litres per day, but domestic water usage could be reduced by 50-70% with modest rainwater storage capacity.
What can rainwater be used for and how does Rainwater Harvesting work? What are the benefits and when does it not make sense? What are the options and how much does it cost? This EcoLearn day in Cloughjordan Ecovillage opens the doors to a demonstration of Rainwater Harvesting in action and offers an opportunity for householders to figure out if the investment in a Rainwater Harvesting system is worth it.
The day will be conducted in an interactive way combining input with active participation and sharing. It is open to anyone who is interested in the issues being examined and does not require any prior level of knowledge. However participants who have previously used rainwater harvesting will be invited to share their experiences.
The EcoLearn Day begins at 11:00am and runs to 5pm, allowing people travel by train from Dublin area and return on the same day. For those who wish to stay over, an optional Sunday morning outdoor Meitheal is planned. Hosted by Cloughjordan Ecovillage as part of its EcoLearn programme Date: 11am-5pm Saturday 26 July Location: Cloughjordan Ecovillage Cost: €40 before July 19, €50 from July 20, €10 discount if you travel by train. never have had a significant injury but their Performance may be affected on an ongoing basis by an unscreened and therefore unexposed Movement Pattern Asymmetry. These Individuals are carrying hidden issues that are frustrating them by " Holding Them Back " and negatively affecting what could be a much better Performance.
Yoga in Athletic Training How to Enhance Performance -Pre , Mid and Post Season by Premier County Physiotherapy Templemore and Thurles. This is a question we are continually asked in both our Chartered Physiotherapy Clinics. In most cases the timing of this question is unfortunate as the Player / Athlete is attending us with an established injury that may have been avoided if they had been properly Screened. These injuries obviously affect Performance, as there may be a residual unresolved Mobility problem or Motor Control issue post injury. This may not be overly obvious and the Sportsperson may feel they are now non-injured and can go " Full - Pelter " , but an injury can leave that person with a hidden dysfunction in their Playing style or Technique which will ultimately affect Future Performance and may even lead to another injury. There are also individuals who may
So What Is The Answer ? Well if Performance is being affected by a Muscular, Mobility or Motor Control problem , Performance can be enhanced simply by Diagnosing , Exposing and Correcting what is exposed. There are many Chartered Physiotherapists who have trained and specialised in Screening , testing and Correcting these previously undiagnosed Dysfunctions in Players / Athletes . We at Premier County Physiotherapy, use FMS - Functional Movement Screening and SFMA - Selective Functional Movement screening to expose all these issues. we

then use Proven and Effective Corrective Functional Stategies to negate the exposed Patterns. Sometimes we complement these Corrective Strategies by introducing Yoga and Pilates Regimes when appropriate . Ultimately , Our Objective is to Correct and achieve higher better results when we Re-Screen , which in turn translates into significant improvements in Performance for the Player/Athlete. We Screen Pre , Mid and Post Season and Our goal at all times is to Eliminate Undiagnosed Issues and Enhance Optimum Performance. The Advice is " Do Not Add Fitness To A Dysfunction "- Get Screened and Improve Your Performance !!!!!! Counselling Anxiety
(continued from previous issue)
By Jim O’Shea Anxiety. How to touch your inner child (contd.). Sleeplessness as a contributor to anxiety. There are several techniques for touching the inner child. One useful book to help you understand this concept is Recovery of Your Inner Child by Lucia Capachione. Lucia is an art therapist and explains very well what the inner child means. There are many exercises in the book. These are mainly written dialogues between the adult and the child. They are very simple, and I use them on myself sometimes. The adult writes in his or her dominant hand and the child replies in his or her nondominant hand, resulting in childish scribble. These can be very powerful. If the adult (inner parent) is loving, the child, perhaps for the first time, hears words such as ‘I love you. I will take care of you’. It is best to do this exercise in a counselling session, because we do not know what will arise. Another technique is to write a letter to the inner child, and the child replies. I always ask people to draw the child’s face as they see it. If the angry child emerges, allow it to express its anger, empathise with it, love it, and find out the object of the child’s anger. Edmund Bourne has a nice visualisation as a technique for touching your inner child (pages 282-283). Getting to know your inner child, talking to him or her as often as possible is very healing, especially for adults who have been abused as children. When doing these exercises it is always important to note how your body is reacting. If your stomach begins to turn, your head begins to ache, or your chest tightens, it is a sign that the exercises are not safe. In such circumstances, a counsellor’s room would be preferable to doing it on your own. One of the roles of the counsellor is to keep his client safe. Sleeplessness as a contributor to anxiety.

Sleep is the time we give our bodies to rest, and during that time we go through different stages – drowsiness, light sleep, deep sleep, dreaming (rapid eye movement REM sleep). Deep sleep comes earlier in the night and is crucial to feeling refreshed next day and to our sense of well-being. REM sleep allows us to process stuff that has not been adequately dealt with the previous day. If sleeping soundly is so vital to our sense of well being, it is no wonder that sleeplessness can cause of anxiety. It is a vi-
cious cycle, too, because anxiety itself can cause sleeplessness. Of all the wide-ranging causes of anxiety insomnia is a very widespread problem. It is reckoned that from 30% to 50% of people may suffer from it at one time or another, and about 10% of people suffer chronic (ongoing) insomnia. Insomnia is defined by the English NHS as ‘difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep for long enough to feel refreshed the next morning, even though you have had enough opportunity to sleep’. Sufferers wake up periodically during the night, or wake up early in the morning and are unable to go back to sleep. They feel tired and irritable throughout the day. This can be damaging to relationships at home and outside. Sleep experts tell us that there are three types of insomnia – learned, chronic and primary. Learned insomnia (Psycho Physiological Insomnia –PPI) is simply insomnia that arouses our anxiety. In other words, if we sleep badly we may begin to worry about not being able to function during the day, and we may try harder to sleep at night thus making our insomnia worse. if we continue worrying about sleeping we may become over aroused about sleeping, and, for example, normal bedroom activities such as making the bed, changing the bedclothes, putting on our pyjamas, turning off the light, and so on, can trigger insomnia. In short, learned insomnia associates the bedroom with sleeplessness rather than sleep. This is real anxiety-arousing insomnia, and is a vicious circle. Chronic insomnia is ongoing insomnia, and primary insomnia is insomnia that is not caused by any physical or mental condition.
