There are approximately 50 million Americans who claim Irish heritage. Even the current President of the US, Barack Obama has Irish ancestors. One such citizen Gerry Britt, a native of New York City, traced his roots back to Upperchurch and Drombane in Co. Tipperary. Since then he has visited Ireland on several occasions since 2007 and has travelled around a lot of the country. Gerry has decided to chronicle some of his adventures around Ireland with a collection of humorous and insightful stories in a new book entitled 'Goodwill on Credit, Travels in Ireland'. While it doesn't proclaim to be a tourist guide book it does contain some useful travel tips. The book mostly contains stories and tales about the places he visited and the people he met. We get a humorous insight into how Irish people and customs are seen from an 'outsider's' point of view. Small things that we take for granted and accept as the norm, such as timekeeping and even the art of conversation. These insights aren't gleaned from infrequent interactions with the natives between tour bus pit stops, but more quality time spent getting to know people and not being subject to timetables and packed schedules.

There are even some emotional parts in the book, such as first visiting the ancestral home, and you can tell from reading it that when Gerry visits Ireland, he does truly believe he is 'coming home'. No doubt the welcome he gets from the World's friendliest people and his own ability to engage in banter and a bit of slagging plays a significant part. The best takeaway from the book for any potential tourists planning to visit Ireland is Gerry's own version of 'how to win friends and influence people', which I won't reveal here, you'll have to buy the book to find that out. Trust me it will be money well spent! 'Goodwill on Credit' is a lovely lighthearted read suitable for tourists and natives alike. This is Gerry's first book and, as I'm sure he won't mind me saying, 'it's not bad ….. for a Yank' :)

Nenagh firm Echo IT wins inaugural County Enterprise Awards Nenagh firm Echo IT Ltd promoted by Donal Bray won the inaugural all County Tipperary Enterprise Awards. At a ceremony held at Bru Boru, Cashel on Wednesday 25 March attended by the Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government, Alan Kelly TD, Templemore Firm Chimney Draught Stop was the runner up and The Scullery Ltd, owned by Nenagh woman Florrie Purcell won third place. Roscrea’s Herdwatch won a special award for Technology while Clonmel based Clonmel Covers Ltd promoted by Seamus & Eugene Phelan won a special award for diversification into new markets. These days some of the anger of earlier albums have been refocused and now Damien is singing for himself, attempting to put in context his experience as an Irishman who has seen something of the world and learned more about himself, an evolution on previous themes and concepts. Novas Initiatives Charity Cycle Novas Initiatives along with the Pallottine Fathers in Thurles will be running a charity cycle on the 10th of May, in Thurles. They will be organising a 100k 50k and A25 cycle. Novas Initiatives is a Voluntary organisation who work mainly with Single Adults ,Families and Children who are disadvantaged and socially excluded from society primarily those who are homeless or at risk of becoming Homeless. Novas opened its first service in Limerick in 2002 in response to

the needs of homeless people in Limerick City since then the charity has grown considerably with at least one service being added each year. Novas services are mainly based in the Munster region, in North Tipperary they offer services in Nenagh, Newport and Thurles. North Tipperary Hospice Cycle raises over €13,000 The inaugural year of the Shannon Suir Cycle for North Tipperary Hospice Movement was a great success, raising over €13,000 for the organisation. On what was an unforgettable sunny day last September, the cyclist embarked on a 120k loop, starting and finishing in Dromineer and went throughout much of the North Tipperary catchment area pit stopping in Roscrea, Templemore and Thurles where the cyclist stopped for lunch on the banks of the river Suir. Over 200 people of all ages and fitness levels joined the cycle including 10k family cycle from Nenagh to Dromineer.
