Hello Key-uties! My name is Diviyana Kumar and I proudly serve as your 2023-2024, Vice President of Spirit! I am so excited to attend RTC this year together with all of you guys! RTC is being held at Green Valley High School this year from 8am-8pm. We recommend that students arrive around 77:15am. RTC will consist of 6 workshops that include topics such as, learning to become a Key Leader, Managing School, Service Projects, and so many other workshops! There will be lunch and dinner provided, and there will also be little tags that you can purchase for your name tag at RTC. I do want to remind members that RTC is NOT for hours. The only way to get hours from RTC is by articles, visuals, and any service workshops. That is all I have to say now, please make sure to attend RTC Prep meetings after the general meeting! If you have any questions, feel free to email me! My email is listed at the back of the newsletter. Yours Truly, Diviyana Kumar

SOMI SOMI Fundraiser ! “I had so much fun getting Somi Somi with my friends! The soft serve was so tasty especially the strawberry flavor. The nutella filled taiyaki was also delicious when paired with the soft serve. This fundraiser was such a great way for me to enjoy Somi Somi and support Key Club!!” Catherine Nguyen | 11
“During the Somi Somi fundraiser, I made my contribution by purchasing taiykai! Taiyaki is one of my favorite foods so I was glad I was able to help promote and fund Desert Oasis Key club by buying some delicious food! I got a 5 piece to share with my friends and got my favorite filling of cheddar! I hope to fund the club more in the future by buying good food!” Hana Burgess | 12
17
Panda express Fundraiser Our Panda Express fundraiser was a success! We sold Orange Chicken and Chow Mein at all three lunches on Friday! I was happy to see all the members and even nonmembers come to support DOHS Key Club! We hope to have more like these so make sure to check the concessions for us every Friday to grab some Panda Express bowls and fortune cookies! My fortune said, “Make some lasting memories” That’s honestly very fitting for Key Club!
DOKC loves food… can you tell?

St. Jude walk/run! “This is my 2nd time volunteering at the St Jude walk/run as a club and I had a great time. This year, there were less runners, but this didn’t mean the cheer spirit was less. This was our first service event as a club and a great number of members were able to make it. There were other clubs/organizations from Desert Oasis and other kids too. The participants in the run/walk, ranged from kids, pets, elderly, etc. Liberty High School Key Club challenged us to a cheer battle and they definitely won lol. Overall, St Jude Walk/Run has been the only reason why I’m so energetic early in the morning besides for RTC” Diviyana Kumar | 11
“This event was as fun as could be. We all went in groups to cheer on the runners with our different cheers and screamed and rooted them on. We got whistles and cheer items to show our love for all of the runners. As each younger child ran by we would give them motivation and all put our hands out for them to run by us and give us a high five. I hope to do an event like this again!” Kaelynn Coller | 10
19
“This was my second time volunteering for the St.Jude Walk/Run and it was really fun. A lot of members came and I saw some old friends from other schools. The whole two hours I was just running around taking pictures from different angles, and I definitely got some weird looks. I had to borrow Catherine's phone and I feel bad for filling up her phone storage with over 100 photos of St.Jude. There were a lot of kids and whenever they ran by we all put our hands out to get a high five. It was truly a great experience and I can't wait to go again next year.” Trischelle Molina | 10
“St. Jude Walk/Run was a blast! It was so fun being able to teach members cheers and cheer on the runners. We even bumped into Liberty Key Club and we chanted some cheers. We also got to five-high the cutest little kids. I would 100% recommend to everyone to go and support St. Jude and their cause.” Olivia Nguyen | 10
20
Greek food fest
“I had a lot of fun volunteering at the Greek Food Festival! I got to interact with Key Club members from other schools, and everyone at the festival was really nice. I helped out at the Sauce station before transferring to the Kid’s Area. I enjoyed working and talking with the other volunteers, and would love to volunteer at the festival again in the future!” Josalyn Andersen |9
“I went to the greek food festival and it was a lot of fun.Everyone was really positive the whole time.It was really nice that I got free food after all the volunteering.” Ruby Covarrubias | 10
21
“Volunteering at the Greek Food Festival was honestly really enjoyable! I was assigned to the gyro booth and helped assemble the gyros. I got to meet a lot of other cool key clubbers from other schools too. The atmosphere of the festival was lively and energetic as well which made the event a lot more exciting. I would 10/10 recommend the Greek Food Fest to anybody looking to volunteer and have good time!! Catherine Nguyen | 11
“I volunteered at the greek festival setups & all weekend. I learned a lot and made plenty of friends with the ladies and gents at the church and especially learned a LOT about greek pastries, cakes, baklavas, etc!! Although my body was sore and tired after all of these shifts, I found it very fun learning all these new things and being in charge of a booth and training my peers how the church wanted us to do our jobs. I think the most fun I had was meeting my new friends from Vista. I made more than those and I definitley learned a lot about customer service, marketing pastries and food that may not look as good as they are and also how to restock and properly clean up stations. Overall, I’ve loved the experience and I will definitley do it again next year whether it be for Key Club or outside hours :)!!” “I went and worked the booths with kids from other high schools volunteering and my friend malorie. we had a lot of fun selling pastries & helping out everyone there. it was very hard to learn the names and titles of the specific packs and cookies but it gave me more in depth knowledge of what i’m selling and why people enjoy these desserts so much. i had a lot of touching moments when certain customers mentioned how these cookies and pastries reminded them of how their grandmas & moms used to make. it reminded me of how important food is to the Greek culture and how lucky I was to be experiencing this in real time. “ Rheta Azarine | 10

Campus Clean up “We cleaned up the campus with the Filipino club, it was very fun going around cleaning with my friends. I felt like I was doing a good thing helping the campus out! I think it was very fun finding trash in places you never really look! Jasmine Kizikaya |9
“This event really showed me the importance of key club. Getting to bond friend ships and teamwork while getting to cheer up teachers and make jobs easier for janitors is so amazing. Knowing all of this makes the job all the more fun to do! Jaxson Sparano | 9
Picking up all the trash from different rooms throughout the school was really fun but at the same time a little gross. What was really cool was that I got to be in classrooms that i’ve never been in before and some of the classrooms looked really fun to be in.
23
“Cleaning the campus was very fun. We walked around campus and cleaned up. This helped make the school cleaner and we worked with our friends. Ryan Soberano | 10
“We did a campus cleanup with our school’s filipino club and this isn’t the first joint campus cleanup we’ve done with them. Hana, president, and I went outside to the basketball courts to look for trash. Since tailgate was hosted on the basketball courts, there was a ton of trash leftover. There was a halo halo leftover cup and no joke I almost threw up. This is probably one of the worst things I’ve smelt so far because it was DISGUSTANGGG. Overall, this made me feel bad for the janitors because the students purposely don’t clean up after themselves.” Avery Bautista | 11
Cleaning up the school was honestly a very rewarding experience! I loved going around the perimeter of the building to collect all the trash littered around the bushes and grass. It took a while to get all the trash collected, but afterwards, the campus was almost spotless! Catherine Nguyen | 11

SERVICE ICEBREAKERS
27
As our general meeting icebreaker, we decided on making dog toys in works with the Desert Oasis Student Council. It was really fun as all members, new and old, were able to make their own toys and directly help out for a cause. I can’t wait to do more service events during our general meetings, as it also gives our members more of a reason to attend the meetings. Dog toy making is an easy yet wonderful service event that directly helps the community!
Due to the teacher strike, Key Club wanted to make teacher appreciation cards. This is always a great icebreaker activity, regardless if there is a strike going on. Members artistic abilities were evident in their cards because they went all out. We hope the teachers appreciate a small note of appreciation from us :)
