President goes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shri Narayan Shukla of Singapore gets honorable membership of IBP home with Bharat Ratna NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the nation's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna upon former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a highly respected leader across political spectrum, at his residence at Krishna Menon Marg in Lutyens' Delhi. The ceremony is usually held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, but an exception was made keeping in mind the poor health of the former prime minister. The announcement for a Bharat Ratna for Vajpayee, along with educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya, came on December 24, a day before he turned 90. Malaviya will be accorded Bharat Ratna posthumously during a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Vajpayee, the first non-Congress prime minister to serve full five years in office, held the post from 1998 to 2004. In 1996, he had held the post for 13 days. Within two weeks of assuming office for a second time, Vajpayee had ordered nuclear tests at Pokhran. He is also credited with taking bold
initiatives, notable among them being the historic bus journey to Lahore in 1999 when he signed the landmark Lahore Declaration with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with both sides pledging to push for peace and security. Among those present at the ceremony were PM Narendra Modi, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, cabinet ministers and senior BJP leaders L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi who had worked closely with Vajpayee during his stint as prime minister. Former PM Manmohan Singh was also present, though Congress president Sonia Gandhi gave it a miss amid reports that she was not invited. Congress spokesperson Rita Bahuguna Joshi said she was not aware of the issue. Former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, his Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan counterparts Chandrababu Naidu and Vasundhara Raje also attended the function, along with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav. On this occasion, Smt. Mala Tiwari, Smt. Karuna Shukla, Shri Narendra Tiwari, Shri Anoop Mishra and Shri Santosh Shukla congratulated him.

Javed Akhtar Gets Honor with Life Time Achievement Award
MUMBAI: 7th Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards was held recently at Yash Raj Studio in Mumbai. It was a star-studded affair, with the presence of several musicians and Bollywood celebrities. The evening proved lucky for Praveen Muralidhar and Satchith Harve too, as they achieved Best Song Engineering for the famous track 'Manwa Laage' of 'Happy New Year'. Yet another award to this film was that of Best lyricist that went to Irshad Kamil. This time, 'Manwa Laage' was the winner. Gulraj Singh was awarded Upcoming Male Vocalist for the track 'Pakeezah' from 'Ungli'. Rashmi Singh took home the trophy for Upcoming Lyricist, in the romantic category for the 'Citylights' song 'Muskurane'. Upcoming Music Composer went to Raj-Prakash. They were awarded for the song 'Arziyaan' of the flick 'Jigariyaa'. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan won Indi Pop Song of the Year for the song 'Rab Jaane'.
