India, US sign first commercial agreement under nuclear deal
WASHINGTON: The landmark India-US civil nuclear stalled over India's 2010 nuclear liability law is finally moving forward with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and the Westinghouse Electric Company signing a preliminary commercial contract. A factsheet issued by the White House later said this agreement should facilitate progress toward licensing the AP-1000 nuclear reactor technology in India. Noting that Indian government is planning to develop commercial nuclear power sites in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh using US nuclear technology, it said both governments also decided to complete discussions on the Administrative Arrangements at an early date.India plans to buy six of the Westinghousemanufactured AP 1000 nuclear reactors in a deal worth about $ 14 billion for its nuclear power projectat Chayya-Mithivirdi in Gujarat, one of the two sites set aside for American firms under the nuclear deal. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Indian Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) also intend to sign a memorandum of understanding for the exchange of technical information in nuclear safety matters, it was announced “This arrangement should solidify close cooperation between the regulators," the factsheet said.

J&K: The only Blind School in the entire north Kashmir established by Haji Muhammad Yousuf Khan, a resident of Vezar Wagoora. The institute is imparting education in Braille system has brought a new hope of life for these kind of kids. The blind school at Dewanbagh Baramulla affiliated with the Northern Federation of Blind Kashmir and now under BOSE up to primary standard, the teaching staff employed in the institute are trained in Braille system of education. Government plans regulator for Play Schools NEW DELHI: The government plans to bring in a regulatory framework to rein in playschools, creches and day care centres charging exorbitant fees without providing standardized curriculum and learning aids. The policy, which includes implementation and monitoring of early child care and education for children below six years, is likely to be discussed in the Union Cabinet. The women and child development (WCD) ministry has mooted the national policy for early childhood care and education (ECCE) that is targeted at 158.7 million children below 6 years. So far, 75.7 million children or around 48% of children in the country are reported to be covered under the WCD ministry's supplementary food programmeIntegrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme. The policy recognizes that the government's minimalistic approach has aided the mushrooming of non-formal private schools across
the country. It envisages setting up a national council to establish guidelines for standardization of literature and reading material, learning aids, ensure qualified teachers are appointed and prescribe penal provisions for noncompliance. All institutions of informal education will be required to be registered.
