ENTANGLD WITH ELEMENTS
Up to 60% of the human body is water. Water is what binds us in this project as well as in life. The three projects focus on observation, conversation and understanding - covering different interactions to establish a feeling of responsibility for this crucial element and its citizens. Through these projects we hope to ignite the viewers’ understanding and respect towards things they otherwise would not notice. If we don’t take care of nature today, the world of the future will suffer. We ARE water.

Reflect
The sources of electricity and light will not continue to stay the way we know today. In the future we have to look at our relationship with nature in a new way. And see it as a co-creator. To do that we have to appreciate the wonders that are in nature and take care of it. In the future we can co-create and make new wonderful things.
33
Josephine Bach Lund
The aim of the installation is to inspire and motivate people to see the potential nature has. In this case as a source of light. That is why the installation has been created to give a positive experience with the engagement with the light from the ocean.
35
Josephine Bach Lund
The installation is based by Tangkroen in Aarhus. The focus is on the engagement between nature and culture, letting the by-passers experience an imitation of the bioluminescence from the ocean. 37
Josephine Bach Lund
The experience
39
Josephine Bach Lund
The light is only controlled by the nature. The light reflections in this installation are “controlled” by the natural light from the sky and from the waves. The by-passers can not control it, but we can be amazed from a distance.

ENTANGLD WITH AIR
We can’t always see it, hear it, touch it, but the air is everywhere and anywhere and are able to determine life and death. Yet, it is many times being overlooked, taken for granted and unappreciated. Imagine a relationship between humans and air that are based on trust, understanding and respect. Imagine a world where we take care of and appreciate each other. Imagine the impact of such a change of relations.
43
Rasmus Julius Rostrup Hansen
The Air Bunker
The final concept is an Air Bunker, that provides shelter for the plants species Hedera Helix and a clean air supply, for the humans living close to the site.
45
Rasmus Julius Rostrup Hansen
One air bunker is a closed ecosystem that the Hedera Helix plant live in and grow on. It functions as a place where humans can go in and breathe. The bunker collects the clean air at an air-station where humans can re-fill clean air to a transportable tank.
47
Rasmus Julius Rostrup Hansen
How it works
The bunkers supply the sidewalk with clean air. Under the dome is the underground bunker located, with is a place for humans to seek escape to, when extreme weather occurs with smog. It is the collaboration and the exchange of gases and chemicals between plants and humans that makes the system work.

A new design collaborative has emergerged between humans and wind all over the world. It has changed the way both humans and wind present and express themselves. Both parties equally visible and present in the moment. Feeling, appreciating and enjoying each others company. The wind brings life, love and energy to humans, and the humans gives life, love and energy back in return to the wind. A loving, caring and collaborative relationship.

MICROCOMPANIONS
Microspecies are often disregarded in our everyday lives. Yet they have crucial roles of maintaining the biological balances that keep the natural cycles of mother Earth and its many species in sync. However, we humans have a tendency of wanting to exterminate things that threaten our systems and that which we don’t understand. The following projects work under the premise of the importance to take notice of even the smallest companions, who are all around us. Through them we want to encourage curiosity for future caring environments with these microcompanions where meaningful and respectful entanglements are created as a way to rekindle a symbiotic relationship with Nature.

The following pages are a glimpse of a future scenario in which Laundromats have become Microbial Care Centers. Not only are they places to care for our clothes and our microbe companions, but they have also become part of our general health-system with a team of microbiologists working in labs attached to each center - Analysisng the needs of your health and your specific microbiome. (Spot them through the window in the seating area of the care center - next page) With this future scenario, I would like to invite people to co-speculate on a not so far future - I believe - in which bacteria and other microorganisms have become a central part of our everyday lives and our general health-system. Recognized as crucial collaborators for a more sustainable future.

WEARING COMPANIONS
From the very beginning of the human age, we have had close connections with nature for life, protection, care and decoration. However, with time and industrial change, we, as humans, have put ourselves at the centre of all beings no longer caring for our relations with nature. We have forgotten the importance of other beings and how we use and take care of them. We want to create new entanglements. Taking responsibility, recreating close bond and taking up old traditions enable to create relations of care with nature. What if we truly understood the importance of our entanglement with nature?

My proposal is a living archive and installation, of the participants entanglements with plants and textile production. Suggesting a close interaction with the materials and weaving (construction) of textiles, in an easy to approach concept. The frame of the installation was inspired by information and exhibition design. Communicating through the loom and the materials. It is positioned in front of Væksthusene in Aarhus Botanical Gardens. Here the installation will be a part of the storytelling about the plants, their habitats, impact and value as well as our understanding, of the influence we have, to create change. The proposal invites for speculation through noticing, and getting entangled in the transparency of the process and materials through the frame’s pathway. As well as participating in close engagements, by tying bonds with the natural materials helping to bring together disparate parts into a new whole, by weaving their own material stories.

Proposal My proposal is based on an experiment with designing with livingness. A speculative design offer that would create a more entangled relationship between human and plant. By experimenting with plants together with fabrics excluding soil, discover how humans influence plants, and vice versa. Bringing plants and clothing into one, will allow humans to regain their bond with nature through care and touch.
What if plants could develop life as clothing for our body?

Engagement with the site and audience Peoples engagement starts in the private home where they are supplied with fabric and seeds. Using care instructions they start an experiment of growing the clothing. With every step of the growth the living clothing design and entanglement develops.
Wearers of these garments sends the message by walking around Aarhus city.

Audience speculation Seeing how people would react to such a display and if their curiosity will trigger them to either distance themselves or question what the purpose is. It might lead to speculations if they are aware of natures importance in our everyday life. How living clothing could influence our normal habits. Could it make us think of what we wear and how.

PREFERRED FUTURES As humans we position ourselves in the center of all beings. We´ve made the decision: what is a being and what is not. Over the years, humans has treated non-beings poorly. How can we stop this cycle and make people curious as to what is a being, and what is not.

QUESTIONING ENTANGLEMENTS
More than ever it is important to question what entanglement is and how we perceive it. From asking what is human privilege and the connection to wild nature and our physical and mental entanglement to other species. Entanglement is not only a phenomenon in our everyday life but it also relates to our history, culture and our actions. As humans, we crave bonding, we keep searching, analysing, we try to understand. The thing is, what we’re looking for is what we already had. The challenge that modern times put in front of us to find it, redefine the entanglement, reconnect and rethink everything. We got lost, we got detached, we destroyed our environment for our own sake. The time to face our acts has come, it’s time to slow down, take a deep breath and build connection all over again.

01 CON CON is an interactive installation based on an act of confession – a pattern deeply rooted in catholic religion. The idea behind is to encourage audience to confront their acts and confess, not to god, not to a priest, but to nature. The concept consists of two layers - digital and physical. The physical form is based on a standalone traditional confessional shape which can be installed in any urban space. The digital layer is a web app that enables users to submit their sins and see what others shared. The desired outcome of speculation is triggering reflection through confronting personal acts, acts that we can all admit to and that we are not very proud of.
Weronika Cyrankiewicz 159
Weronika Cyrankiewicz
The installation The first prototype was designed on basis of a traditional, standalone confessional and built from cardboard. The user scenario is based on a mentioned scheme of confession, however the approach and interpretation is personal and intimate. It gives plenty of space for reflection and allows to confront nature as it is.
confessional
uninterrupted wild nature
Facing nature in this very special act of confession lets us to look at it from different perspective, lifts companion beings higher, even higher than ourselves, at least for this short moment of reflection on our acts.
161
Weronika Cyrankiewicz
Engagement Users were asked to spend a while in front of the confessional and write their sins on the surface. Admitting, confronting and sharing guilts gives the act a whole new layer, allows to share, discuss, reflect and – ideally – motivates to improve.
163
Weronika Cyrankiewicz
Speculation on site Speculation took place in Amager Fælled in Copenhagen. The location is particularly meaningful due to ongoing protests against urbanisation of this – almost last – bastion of wild nature in the city, so loved by many.
165
Weronika Cyrankiewicz
Interaction CON is a multi-layered project with assisting web app that allows users to get to know the story behind the concept at anytime, from anywhere. It also makes sharing and confronting sins much more accessible and gives the whole experience a global potential.
167
Weronika Cyrankiewicz
Communication
The project is backed up with a layer of storytelling through graphic materials. Posters, Social Media assets and other forms of broadcasting the message let it spread further and trigger curiosity among wider audience. 169

(UN)WANTED ENTANGLEMENTS
Careful entanglements and compassion with non-human-species; Since the beginning of life, entanglements and companionships have existed among species. For some it has filled an empty stomach, for others it has caused suffering and end of life. But after all it has always been for the cause of nature. Up until now. Through decades, even centuries, human way of living has brought the cause of nature out of balance. Non-human species are suffering more than ever and at such a pace that they are unable to reproduce themselves. How can we speculate on this unwanted entanglement between humans and non-humans? How can we make them wanted? How can we encourage love and compassion between humans and nonhuman species?

THE REGRESSION FOR PROGRESSION MANIFESTO Progress is not always progress.
WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF PROGRESSION Wherever, whenever we are, obvious artefacts of the past proves progress. Phones, cars and buildings show how fast we have moved. WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF CHANGING TIMES Wherever, whenever we are, hidden signs in the present proves that progress is not always progress. The temperatures are rising, habitats destroyed and species extinct show that we have moved too far too fast. COULD WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF REGRESSION Wherever, whenever we will be, signs from the present will tell stories for the future. Of how we moved backwards to move forward, of how ‘undoing’ and ‘not doing’ became new methods for progression. SHOULD WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF PROGRESSION? Henriette Hjortshøj (2021)

MANIFESTO // WHY // MOTIVATION
RE-WILD We’re replacing wild with tame. Half of the fertile land on earth is now farmland. Most of the planets birds are domestic birds. A further majority of mammals .. are the animals we raise to eat. The rest from mice to whales, make up just 4 percent. This is now OUR planet, run by HUMAN kind, for HUMAN kind. There is little left for the rest of the living world. Is the living world ours to take, use and abuse? Do we need to cause suffering? Or can we be intelligent enough to become wise? The wild is not as wild as it once was. We’ve DESTROYED it, not just ruined it, we have completely DESTROYED the non-human world. We need to RESTORE biodiversity the very thing we have removed. It is the only way out of this crisis. 209

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
HOW MIGHT WE: CREATE A CRITICAL DESIGN THAT ENCOURAGES CONSUMERS OF ANIMAL-PRODUCT TO REFLECT ON THEIR CONSUMPTION HABITS AND ENCOURAGE ACTING WITH CARE AND COMPASSION TOWARDS NON-WHUMAN SPECIES?

ZEMBLANITY IS THE NEW SPECULATIVE SUPERMARKET. THIS PROVOCATIVE SUPERMARKET CONFRONTS THE CONSUMERS WITH THE SOURCES OF THE PRODUCTS, THROUGH PACKAGING-DESIGN. SO IF YOU ARE READY TO GET CHALLENGED EMOTIONALLY AND ETHICALLY, ZEMBLANITY IS THE SUPERMARKET FOR YOU.
