6th October

10.15 –11.00  Andrew Jamison, Professor, Technology, Environment and Society, Ålborg University “Electricity and the Hybrid Imagination – Energy between Technology and Culture” 11.15 –12.00  Niels Peter Skou, Research Consultant, Kolding School of Design “Energy goes where Attention Flows – Cultural Meanings and Representations of Electricity” 12.00 –12.30 Lunch 12.30 –13.15  Rune Nørager, Design Psychologist, Assistant Professor, Department of Communication and Psychology, Ålborg University “Pushing People by Design – Design and Behavioral Change” 13.15 –14.00  Thomas Zindorff Lagoni, Design Researcher, Kolding School of Design “Designing Reality – Visualization of Science” 14.15 –16.00 Workshop: ”Points and Recommendations”

14th October

10.15 –10.45   Anne Skare Nielsen, Managing Partner of the innovation and futurist company Future Navigator “Innovation - not more, just better” 10.45 –11.15  Anders Troi, Head of Programme, Intelligent Energy Systems Programme, Risø DTU “How Intelligent Energy Systems can change the Way we interact with Energy” 11.15 –11.45   Cordy Swope, Innovation Leader, specialized in creative leadership, design thinking and -strategy and human-centered innovation “ Why Prototyping is Important and how it can Influence your Company” 11.45 –13.00 A Fairground Attraction: See the students proposals for future scenarios and how they have solved the difficult challenge “From Intangible to Tangible. From Tangible to Wonderful” Fairground lunch and networking 13.00 –13.45   The jury, Anders Troi, Anne Skare Nielsen and Cordy Swope will evaluate the students’ projects and comment on how to include design, innovation, prototyping and design thinking in understanding the intangible and how your company will benefit from it.

To load knowledge we have invited a series of experts working with energy and design from different commercial and theoretical viewpoints. We will have presentations and discussions in the mornings, and in the afternoons you will be invited to share knowledge in workshop activities. Power Input takes place the 5th. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to comment on the student ideas during a ‘reality check’ workshop. Power Research takes place the 6th. In the afternoon, all participants will take part in condensing the insights into a series of points and recommendations, which we ambitiously have labeled ‘Recommendations to the World’ to underline the scope of the problem. Power Output takes place the 14th. Here you will be able to see prototyping at scale and learn how prototyping and innovation can help your company grow as the students will present their final proposals, and a jury of experts will give them a final reality check.

DesignCamp2011 Power Days Oct 05 | Oct 06 | Oct 14 From Intangible to Tangible. From Tangible to Wonderful – Use, Consumption and Visualization of Electricity

In the near future, great changes in the electricity system will take place. Sustainable energy sources will demand greater flexibility in consumption, while the technological development makes it possible to create a better dialogue between the system and the user. The challenge is to change the electricity system from a closed technological system to an open communicating system.

Just like the iPod has had a decisive impact on how we understand and use music, the students will work on products, services and systems that will make the electricity consumption visible and encourage you to use the green energy when it is there.

DesignCamp2011 lasts from 3rd–14th of October. During these two weeks, students from some of the world’s top design schools with completely diverse approaches towards electricity will gather in Kolding. Led by international design thinkers they will come up with proposals for how users / consumers can acquire a more clear perception of energy; a perception marked by care, reflection, submissiveness, joy and pleasure rather than indifference where electricity is only experienced second hand through the myriad of devices that need it to function.

Here you can find more information about the programme and the DesignCamp. Please register your participation on the website no later than the 29th of September. Your participation is free of charge.
