David Dhawan and Varun Dhawan are all set to collaborate on their third film together — ‘Coolie No. 1’ — soon. The father-son duo shares a close equation, both on and offset, and fans are eager to see the magic on-screen once again. In a recent interview, the two revealed how much they enjoyed working together, and how the transition from father and son to director and actor was smoother than expected. David revealed that there is no special treatment for Varun on the sets, in fact, he is stricter with him than others. He also revealed that he doesn’t hesitate to scold his son in front of everyone else if Varun does not give the perfect shot. However, he also praised his son for being good at improvising in scenes. He added that Varun is no longer nervous to be on sets and that by the time they made ‘Judwaa 2’, the talented young actor was already a successful commercial hero.

Kiara’s upcoming films include two projects with Akshay Kumar, who had once launched her in show business. Bring this up and she beams, “Akshay Kumar has played a constructive role in my professional life. Sometimes, it feels unbelievable that I am working with him again. He launched me, and now I’m playing the lead opposite him in Laxmmi Bomb. We’re are together in Good News, too. It’s unreal. While it’s still sinking in, I just think there is so much to learn from him. I’ve already learned to be disciplined about time from him. He’s very punctual and he never holds up work. He’s a committed actor who does everything required for a role and more. He spontaneously improvises on his scenes and makes them so much entertaining. It’s amazing to have so much energy on the set. He brings in a positive vibe to the workspace. He’s a treat to work with because his sense of humor is outstanding. He can be very funny. I can’t wait to get back on Laxmmi Bomb’s set with him.”

I believe Hrithik is a perfectionist. The team of Super 30 stayed with me in Patna and observed me for a few days. rjun Patiala star Dijit Dosanjh speaking to a daily, about his next Punjabi release Shadaa, how he balances regional cinema and Bollywood, his female fan following and more. When asked if the lines between regional cinema and Bollywood had become blurred and if it was easier than before to hop between industries, here’s what Diljit had to say. A good Punjabi film is better than a Hindi film with a bad script. If it is a Hindi film, doesn’t mean it’ll be superior. If there is only fun and no content in a Punjabi film, then that is also not right. Content is the king. Nothing changes or no film gets superior because of language. “Hindi is our national language. More people understand it, hence it does more business. But there is no dearth of content in any regional film. It needs the same amount of hard work. Earlier it was that once you land in Hindi films, you stop doing regional cinema. I never believed that. Like if you get work through a friend, you won’t leave the friend later on. So I got work through Punjabi cinema. So it’s my duty, my love and even my fans here whom I cannot leave,” he added

MADHURI’S MUSINGS FLASHBACK INTO INDIAN SUMMER HOLIDAYS…

Walking down memory lane with nostalgia, and flashing back into the past, summer holidays in India were such a blast! It was the time when the waves of technology had not touched the shores of our lives; when every day was carefree and simple, yet we found beauty and pleasure in the mundane. As I revisit the beaches of my past, in the vistas of my mind, and re-collect those precious seashells of memories, hope you do the same and relive the great Indian summer vacations. The first 10 years of my life were in my father’s ancestral home and the best part of the summer holidays was when our cousins visited from out-oftown. Many of our summer mornings were kickstarted with visits to the beach. There is nothing quite like the warmth of the morning sun, the whiff of sea breeze welcoming you and the thrill of the ocean waves caressing your feet. Even with the hot Indian summers, we played endlessly in the outdoors. I remember singing and swinging merrily on a wooden swing that was rope-tied to a sturdy old tree. Our backyard was laced with coconut, mango, lemon and gooseberry trees to name a few. I loved playing “forest”, collecting berries and leaves, pretend cooking, playing treasure-hunt and exploring new secret spots in the backyard. I recall waiting for those surprise rain showers which filled our backyard well, making it the perfect pond for paper boat racing. Evenings were badminton and cricket matches, cycling, hide-n-seek and occasionally, hop scotch. Indoor games were cards and caroms and best of all pop quizzes on fun topics!

DesiPages

We had a little nondescript library that was a treasure house of books and my own special collection with my favorites. I immersed myself in Enid Blytons and Amar Chitra kathas; stories which on some days carried me up to the clouds of the whimsical Magic Faraway Tree or sometimes underground to the gloomy world of the Asuras. Mangoes were a delectable summer treat, sometimes freshly picked from our trees as the best dessert ever; not to forget the tangy mango pickles made with secret family recipes. A quick trip to a hill station to beat the summer heat or a visit to cousins in neighboring states via the great Indian Railways was a special addition to the summer. Summer holidays with its free play and unlimited time were also moments which sparked creativity and inspired imagination. While my sister displayed her creative imagery in paintings, I discovered the joys of writing! The lack of a fixed schedule or structured activities were what made the summers so special. From experimenting with magic tricks, to having craft shows exhibiting our artistic creations, to even beauty pageants with multiple rounds, summers were the best time to find new, unexplored avenues for fun and continuous engagement. Another family favorite which added to the glorious summer memories was sitting around my grandmother, an enchanting storyteller and listening to her words of wisdom, real-life stories and family anecdotes. We had no internet, videogames or mobile phones, but time flew past and we spent boundless hours in fun, entertaining ways. We found happiness in the moment by allowing life to unfold without scheduling it on a calendar or waiting for the alarm clock to ring. There is an unparalleled joy that comes with selfdiscovery, observation, creative self-expression and connecting with nature. It’s these simple pleasures of life and the little moments of unplanned delight which become treasured memories. What is your best memory of your summer vacation in India?

TAAPSEE

T

aapsee Pannu, who has been performing intense characters in films including ‘Mulk’, ‘Badla’ and the latest ‘Game Over’, said such roles take a toll on her mind and change her mental fabric a little bit. “I really had to psyche myself out to understand the character who has gone through a dark incident and how her body and mind reacts after one year. She is traumatized. It was quite exhausting emotionally and playing such roles surely takes a toll on me,” Taapsee said. Directed by Ashwin Saravanan and produced by Reliance Entertainment, the film has released in three languages, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. This is the first time Taapsee has played a character in which she is wheelchair-bound for a substantial part of the story. Recounting the experience of her films ‘Pink’ and ‘Badla’, in which she shared screen space with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee said, “In ‘Badla’ also I had a very different character to play. Perhaps that is why after every film, my mental fabric changes a bit. I think it is only natural. Usually, I shoot most of my films at one stretch and that is why for that time being, I become someone closer to my character, even in real life. That is why actors like us are little different, our approach towards reality is different from others. Since we are making the world believe that a character exists, which is actually fictional, our mental fabric is different.” Taapsee started her career in the movies with Telugu films and also worked in Tamil films.

lia Bhatt has impressed one and all with her acting prowess and is also known for her fashion statements. Alia’s stunning appearances are also loved by all and the actress has something special to share about her fashion choices, dressing up and not being under pressure to always look perfect. Talking about the same, the actress said, “It is overwhelming only if you let it become so. I don’t consider dressing up as overwhelming, as I do it as much for myself. In fact, I enjoy it. Some days, I don’t dress up as I don’t feel like it, and it is fine. It’s just a picture after all; it is not the end of the world. I get overwhelmed only when my film is about to release as you are reminded of all the effort that went into making it. But it’s also funny how the minute the film releases, all the anxiety goes away. Then I just say… whatever has to happen, will happen.” DFW | July 2019 VOL 6 | 38

Meanwhile, his family business of Perfect Tax was growing at a very fast pace. He recognized that saving and Tax planning were very important first steps to creating wealth, but ultimate wealth creation required right kind of investments in Mutual Funds, Stocks, Bonds etc. He however, lost a lot of money in stocks at the economic recession of 2008.Therefore, at a very young age he realized that he would not like to invest in something that someone else managed. They might not have the moral or ethical standards of operating the business as him nor the intellect. So, he started looking for avenues to grow his wealth. His experience in corporates like Chase & CBRE taught him that real estate was a very stable business. One could have an asset as a support backbone even after retirement. It could help to get some rental income or sell it at an appreciated value, if done right. In 2010, he also realized the second bigger wealth creation project would be to sell investments that make money for investors, because in this kind, transaction volumes are large.

With this belief in mind, the big task now was to influence his family with his idea. His elder brother Sam Thakkar the mastermind behind the many folds growth of Perfect Tax was a tough cookie to convince. He is a thorough businessman who gauges opportunities very quickly but needs statistics and proof to invest in an unknown territory. Poorvesh Thakkar with his solid research and confidence in the project soon kicked this off. He started small and within four years with smaller project successes had a billion-dollar invested in real estate. He says “Our family initial goal was just to work hard, and we did not take lots of investors’ money. We wanted to see if the project was successful before putting other people money”. Today after huge projects in North Dallas, Thakkar Developers are expanding to Atlanta, Columbus LA, San Francisco & Philadelphia. He has high regards for the Perfect tax team. Services are difficult to sell than products and they do a brilliant job selling services. Thakkar developers are doing the same with larger volumes in mutual funds and real estate.
