Dear Friends, Between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, a lot of watching and listening, and even more thinking. The duties of parenthood......How do you raise these children? At first thought the answer is always “I don’t know” or “too huge a task”. What joy....bringing a human being into this world. It is morally urgent to have honest conversations about the different ways of raising children. You can make a map of sorts of your own thinking and you will realize how easy it is to dispense advise about raising a child. Everybody will have an opinion about what you should do, but what matters is what you want for yourself. Each of us need to be a full person, and remember not to define ourselves solely as parents....your children will always benefit from that. Wish “parenting “ had not been turned into a verb for it now becomes one endless, anxious journey of, sometimes guilt. Let’s do it together.....share childcare equally....when there is true equality, resentment does not exist. Always teach your children to read...teach them to love books. The best way is by casual example. If they see you reading, they will understand that reading is valuable. Books help them understand and question the world, help them express themselves and help them in whatever they want to become. Teach them to question language....it is the repository of our prejudices, our beliefs, our assumptions. So decide the things you will not say to your children. Teach them to reject likability. Their job is not to make themselves likable, their job is to be their full self, a self that is honest and aware of the equal humanity of other people....not the unspoken pressure to change to fit some mound that would please an amorphous entity called “people”. They each need to have a sense of identity. It matters. Be deliberate about it. Teach them about differences. Make difference ordinary. Make difference normal. Teach them not to attach value to difference. And the reason for this is not to be fair or to be nice, but merely to be human and practical. Because difference is the reality of our world. And by teaching them about differences we are equipping them to survive in a diverse world. They must understand that people walk different paths in the world, and that as long as those paths do not harm others, they are valid paths that must be respected. Teach them that we do not know - we cannot know - everything about life. Both religion and science have spaces for the things we do not know, and it is enough to make peace with that. Teach them never to universalize their own standard and experiences....these are for them alone and not for other people. This is the only necessary form of humility: the realization that difference is normal. Above all, may they make their lives healthy and happy, and whatever they want it to be. Until next time, Shabnam Modgil

She Got Emotional At Her Bidaai': Anand Rathi, the Photographer at Sonam Kapoor's Wedding.... Reveals All

“Still recovering,” laughs photographer Anand Rathi, when we ask him how he’s coping post his mammoth project – capturing the most talked-about wedding of recent times, that of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja. #Sonamkishaadi captivated fans across the country, and you almost felt you were part of it, given the plethora of pictures and videos flooding your social media timelines. The credit for most of them goes to Anand, a self-taught photographer with a journey spanning across 16 countries and five continents. His CV says he has been responsible for introducing cutting edge technology into the business that includes India’s first 360 degree wedding film, chroma key stop motion videos and super slow motion video booth. Well, he and his team certainly put all those skills to good use as the pictures (at least the ones that were released to the media) show some absolutely adorable, candid and aww-worthy moments of the bride, her family and her A-list of friends. Contd. from Pg 16 -> Sonam in fact, even thanked Rathi and his team in a lengthy Instagram post, for clicking those moments for posterity. Of course, it was certainly not an easy task to ensure that all the rituals, emotions and functions were snapped in the right way, at the right time but Rathi is a veteran who is unfazed by the pressure of big functions. “We have done some really huge weddings of industrialist families though this one was really special,” he says. Special it certainly was, considering that the biggest stars of Bollywood had congregated at one venue and were seen letting their hair down in the most unaffected manner. Rathi met the Kapoor family around two to three months before the wedding. “I had a meeting with Sunita Kapoor (Sonam’s mother) and Rhea (her sister) who were planning the entire event. Rhea has a keen eye for visuals and we really clicked well. Our brief was clear: Sonam has been photographed enough in her lifetime. But this was her wedding, a very personal occasion. So we had to look for the purest form of photography that is non-posed, unplanned and something that seizes the emotion of the moment,” he says. His first meeting with the bride herself was a few weeks before the wedding amidst her super tight schedule (she was also preparing for Cannes Film Festival and the ‘Veere Di Wedding’ promotions). But as Rathi found out, the actress was supremely easy, quite unlike other nervous bridezillas. “She was bride-chilla,” he quips. “Brides often go through a lot before their big day. But Sonam was always happy and bubbly, something you don’t expect from such a big celebrity. The only time she got really emotional was during her bidaai.”

Sonam Kapoor with the whole team The three days were complete madness though fun. From a team of around 14 people, there were constantly 8-9 members including photographers, cinematographers and production crew, doing the rounds of the venue. For most of the ceremonies, even the lensmen followed the dress code. What stood out for Rathi the most about Sonam’s wedding was the fact that it was an 18 | Jun 18 Contd. on Pg 20 ->

Contd. from Pg 18 ->

extremely chilled out affair. The happiness and the candid smiles that were seen on those Instagram posts were very much real; nothing appeared ‘rehearsed’ or fake. The cocktail, especially, was a revelation he says. “There were about 600 people at the venue out of which 400 were top Bollywood stars. We expected it to be one big, fat page 3 affair. But no! It turned out to be a big fun party. The way Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor danced, they looked like teenagers! It was a sight I will never forget. We had front row tickets to the craziest party in town,” he laughs. He especially recalls the Salman moment. “It was completely unplanned. No one even knew Salman was in the room. Anil and Shah Rukh were dancing their hearts out and suddenly Salman joined them on stage. But that’s Salman for you… spontaneous and unpredictable.” Another factor that made this wedding different, says Rathi, was the simplicity of the entire affair. “I have attended events where the bride and groom make different entries for different ceremonies in new outfits and all that jazz. Here, Sonam and Anand made only one walk-in each day. Even during the main ceremony, she was led by her brothers and it was all so natural.” The venues made a difference too. Sans the trimmings of big hotels or properties, the mehendi was held at an apartment in the BKC area, the wedding was at her aunt’s home in Bandra and the cocktail was at the Leela Hotel. For the evening party, the venue had been transformed by the planners with an art deco theme, photo-booth, tastefully done food counters and the like. “I wish more people thought of the venue they had chosen, they were just perfect,” says Rathi. The result was that the Sonam wedding was a beautiful event where things worked to precision, the guests had a great time and there were genuine smiles all around. The pics say it all. Rathi spills the tips to getting wedding photography right. “The trick is to be visible only when you need to. Clients don’t like cameras to be in their face at the same time, they are human and want to see the emotional quotient of a wedding captured. So it’s best to tell them beforehand that you will be entering their physical spaces at a very emotional time in their lives.” “Most importantly,” he adds. “I feel, they should keep it simple and non-pretentious. Things will fall into place on its own.” 20 | Jun 18

N

o Sridevi, No Sequel to Mr. India, Confirms Shekhar Kapoor

The big plans of doing a sequel to Shekhar Kapoor’s 1985 blockbuster, the evergreen “Mr. India” are finally over. It is reliably learnt that the Kapoor brothers, Boney and Anil who had produced and starred, respectively, in the original “Mr. India” have taken a collective decision to shelve the idea.A source close to the development reveals, “It makes no sense to have a sequel without Sridevi. It’s like “Mother India” without Nargis, Or Agra without the Taj Mahal. “Mr. India” is so closely associated with three main actors Anil Kpoor, Amrish Puri and Sridevi. With two of them gone it would be impossible to recreate the magic of the original. Boney and Anil have decided to call off the sequel plans.” Confirming his own withdrawal from the project Shekhar Kapoor who directed “Mr. India” to eternal fame in 1987 says, “I don’t know what is happening with that project or what Boney’s plans are. I was never going to direct the sequel. Now with Sridevi no more, the question doesn’t arise.” It looks like many dreams died along with Sridevi. “Mr. India” being one of them. RIP. Mr India was a sci-fi film about a man who gets a gadget to become invisible. He then uses his power to destroy a maniacal villain who wants to conquer India. The film was a huge hit when released, especially among children and established Sridevi as the no. 1 heroine of her times. Her iconic dance numbers “Kaante Nahi Katte” and “Hawa Hawai” are popular even today. 22 | Jun 18

coop! Will Salman Khan Play Lord Krishna in Aamir Khan's Mahabharat?

There has been a lot of buzz about Aamir Khan’s version of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Some time ago, it was said that Deepika Padukone might be roped in to play Draupadi. And now, come rumours that Aamir Khan wants his buddy Salman Khan to play Lord Krishna. “Salman has been keen to do his own version of the Mahabharat. When he heard Aamir is doing it, he offered to pitch in. Aamir has spoken to Salman to play Krishna,” says a filmmaker who is close to both the Khan superstars. Apparently Aamir has also sounded out his “Thugs Of Hindostan” co-star Amitabh Bachchan for the role of Dhritarashtra, the king. It seems secretly Aamir has been sounding out a lot of his friends in the film industry. While Aamir himself is keen to play Arjun, he wants the rest of the cast to be as stellar as it can get. If all goes well, this will be one multi-starrer blockbuster even before its release! 24 | Jun 18

T

his Veteran Actor Does NOT Want Rajnikant and Kamal Haasan to Enter Politics

The intrepid BJP politician Shatrughan Sinha would like to warn his colleagues from the entertainment industry who are rushing where angels fear to tread. Shatru says, “I hope they have worked out their political screenplays in some detail before taking the plunge. Mujhe aisa lagta toh nahin hai. I hope I am wrong. Because politics is no bed of roses. Actors come from a world of glamour. They are addicted to glamour. In politics, there is a lot of power. And power is extremely glamorous. Actors come to politics in the hope of building on their glamour and fame.”But the truth, says Shatruji, is somewhat removed from expectations. “Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan should be very clear on why they want to come into politics. Why just Rajinikanth? Even Kamal Haasan is a very good friend of mine. They never sought my advice before plunging into politics. If they had, I’d have warned them about the pitfalls of politics. Look at the way I’ve been treated by my parent party. I was given to understand that I’d be given cabinet rank. Instead, a television actress was given cabinet position. I was only subjected to humiliation and indifference. We actors are brought into political parties to draw in the crowds. But when we do draw in the crowds, the party gets insecure about our popularity. It’s really a very tricky situation.” Did Shatruji’s friend Rajinikanth seek his advice about plunging into politics? The answer is in the negative. “No, Rajini didn’t seek my advice. If he did I’d have advised him against it. Look , it’s not going to be easy. M K Stalin has a very strong power-base in Tamil Nadu’s politics. He has done a lot for the people. Rajini can’t ignore Stalin’s position. And why are we only talking about Rajini? Kamal Haasan too is a dear friend. He too will find the going really tough. It is not easy to convince the voter that you are a capable leader just because you’re a popular actor. Rajini speaks of ‘spritual politics’. At a time when scamsters are running away with billions of India’s money you can’t change the politics with spirituality. Desperate situations cause for desperate remedies. Can Rajini and Kamal deliver?” 26 | Jun 18

I

s 'Mom' Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui Tired of Doing Small Roles?

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has clarified that he wouldn't do small roles and cameos anymore. “No, I will not do it anymore (laughs). It’s as simple as that, why will I do them? I am done with my quota of small roles,” he said. Nawazuddin is also venturing into production, taking on projects such as “Manto”as a o-producer. “There are some upcoming films that I am co-producing as well. My brother is very much into this, doing the scouting for me. I definitely want to produce films as well,” he said. ssHe rules out exploring foreign shores for roles, saying he is content with India and the diversity of roles he is getting to do. “For the time being, I am satisfied that all my directors in India are giving me characters that are pretty challenging and I am happy doing those. Just for the sake of a branding that I am an international star, I would not do that. How many films in the world are like “Manto”? Very few. So, I have no such predetermined affiliation for international projects. I am proud of Nandita and a film like this is no way less than any international film.” 28 | Jun 18

R

eason why International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June

"The date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world. " Yoga is an ancient practice originated from India. This practice is 5000-year -old which heals your mind, body and soul and we can say that yoga reforms your thoughts to peruse a great lifestyle. June 21st was declared as the International Day of Yoga on December 11 in 2104, by United Nations General Assembly after the call for the adoption of June 21st as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. During his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014 Modi said- "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself. By suggesting June 21 (which is summer Solstice) as international yoga day our Prime Minister said that- "the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world. “175 nations took part in this resolution including USA, Canada, and china.

30 | Jun 18

Scientific and mythological reasons about June 21: June 21 is the day of the Summer Solstice, when the tilt of a planet's axis in the northern hemisphere is most inclined toward the star that it orbits - in our case, the Earth and the Sun. June 21 is considered the longest day of the year with the sun rising early and setting late for the northern hemisphere. The summer solstice is also considered an important day in Indian mythology as it marks an event that could be considered the start of Yogic science. When people saw the Adi yogi, they flocked to him for enlightenment but left as he stayed unaware of their presence. Whereas, seven people stayed insistent to learn from him but Shiva refused claiming that a lot of preparation was to be done. The seven people then sat determined through 84 years of sadhana, after which Shiva took notice of them as the sun was shifting from the northern to southern run which was the day of the Summer Solstice. It is said that he could no longer ignore them as they were overwhelming with knowledge. When the next full moon arose 28 days later, Adi yogi transformed himself into Adi Guru and started teaching the ways of the yogic science to his disciples. History of International Yoga Day: The first yoga day celebration was held at Raj path and all arrangements were manged by ministry of AYUSH. First yoga day was celebrated on June 21, 2015. All over the world, almost 21 yoga asanas were performed by dignitaries from 84 nations and accompanied by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This celebration owns 2 Guinness World Records. The first record was for being the world's largest yoga class and featured by 35,985 people and the second one was for having maximum number of participating nationalities that is 84. During the speech Modi stated, "From the Upanishads, comes the idea of Yoga to transform human consciousness through control of body and senses through constant practice. The body is the vehicle for the realization of the Supreme Being." he said, "The problems of modern lifestyles are well known. People suffer from stress related ailments, lifestyle related diseases like diabetes and Hypertention. Significance of the logo of International Day of Yoga: 1) Folded hands Symbolize Yoga, the union, which reflects the union of Consciousness with that of universal Consciousness, a perfect melodious harmony between mind & body, man & nature. 2) The brown leaves symbolize the Earth element, the green leaves symbolize the Nature, blue symbolizes the Water element, brightness symbolize the Fire element and the Sun symbolize the source of energy and inspiration. 3) Yoga is soul. The logo reflects harmony and peace for mankind. 31 | Jun 18

T

he 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act lowered the top tax on C corporation income from 35% to 21%. This is considerably lower than the top 37% on pass-through income from proprietorships, partnerships, and S corporations. To minimize this problem, the Act lets you deduct up to 20% of your “qualified business income” (QBI), calculated on an activityby-activity basis, from your taxable income for the year.1

QBI includes net income from sole proprietorships, net business income (but not guaranteed payments or investment income) from partnerships, and net business income (but not investment income or W2 wages) from S corporations. It also includes pass-through income from real estate investment trusts, publicly-traded partnerships, and qualified agricultural co-ops. There are three significant limits on this new deduction: First, if your 2018 taxable income tops $157,500 ($315,000 for joint filers) your deduction for each activity is limited to the greater of: 50% of the W2 wages timely paid on behalf of that activity, or 25% of the W2 wages plus 2.5% of the unadjusted basis, immediately after acquisition, of all tangible property placed in service on behalf of that activity. Example: You own 20% of an S corporation that pays $500,000 in W2 wages and has $200,000 of property in service. Your QBI is the greater of $50,000 (50% of your 20% share of $500,000 in wages) or $26,000 (25% of your 20% share of $500,000 in wages plus 2.5% of your 20% share of the $200,000 in depreciable property). Second, if your QBI comes from a “specified service business” (medicine, law, accounting, actuarial science, investment management and trading, consulting, performing arts, athletics, or any business that relies on the “reputation or skill of one or more employees”), the deduction for that activity phases out as your taxable income rises from $157,500-207,500 (single filers) or $315,000-415,000 (joint filers). Expect lots of gameplaying with the definition of “specified service businesses”! Third, the deduction is limited to 20% of your taxable income in any particular year. (If your QBI for the year is below zero, you can carry the loss forward to the next taxable year.) 32 | Jun 18

Grape & Lemon Fruit Mask for Dull, Sagging Skin Grapes contain resveratrol, an antioxidant that helps maintain the health of your skin cells. Although any grape would work for this remedy, red grapes are better to use than white/green grapes because of their darker skin color; for grapes, a darker skin color is indicative of more antioxidants and phytonutrients within it. Lemons, on the other hand, are a natural bleaching agent to get lighter skin. They also contain Vitamin C and citric acid; the former increases collagen production while the latter cleanses your skin of bacteria and impurities that may speed up the aging process. Ingredients 1 tbsp. of mashed grapes 8 drops of fresh lemon juice A pinch of rice flour Method Mix ingredients together. Apply and leave it on for 12 to 15 minutes. Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion. Use 1 to 2 times a week. By: Sheetal Rawat

riyanka Chopra's Comparison of Hollywood to Bollywood Will Open Your Eyes!

Priyanka Chopra has strongly argued that its time that Bollywood should stop looking up to Hollywood. Somebody who has straddled the two worlds effortlessly, Priyanka Chopra is actually the only authentic voice who can compare the two industries. The Bollywood A-lister Priyanka Chopra is one of those few Indian actors to have truly created her own space in Hollywood. After the TV show Quantico, Priyanka is on board for two more Hollywood films, following her role of a sassy villain in Baywatch (2017). In Bollywood, she’ll be seen next in “Bharat”, starring alongside Salman Khan. Her upcoming Hollywood films include “A Kid Like Jake”and “Isn’t It Romantic”. “I don’t think we need to learn anything from each other. I think we need to conform according to what’s required for the people who’re working in the industry within that country. If you’re talkingabout pay parity and sexual harassment... then for example,[the lack of pay parity happens in both countries, but the difference is that I see in Bollywood it’s said more blatantly, but in Hollywood it’ll be said in a more roundabout way, because nobody wants the liability or the responsibility that they’re saying this.” The actor emphasises that Bollywood should focus on improving itself, regardless of what happens in Hollywood. “We need to focus on ourselves and not somebody else. We need to look inside our own house and decide what we want to clean up. We should give opportunities to women, be it in entertainment or in education, or in any field they want to be. How do we give them opportunities and make them thrive? The Commonwealth Games are such amazing examples. Most of the medals are won by women. You give women opportunities and they’ll thrive. Whether it’s Hollywood or our Hindi film industry, I think we need to focus on ourselves, instead of comparing ourselves with someone else,” she told Hindustan Times in an interview. 36 | Jun 18

akistanis Have Loved 'Raazi' ,says Meghna Gulzar

A few days ago, it was reported that Meghna Gulzar's Raazi currently making waves at the box office in Bollywood, won't release in Pakistan allegedly due to its content showing the country in a poor light. The film is about a girl, Sehmat (played by Alia Bhatt) who gets married into a Pakistani film to spy for her country before the 1971 war. The information that she provided the Indian armed forces proved to be crucial for the war. Now, director, Meghna Gulzar has said that Pakistanis have immensely liked her film because she is not jingoistic in her narrative and portaryal. In an interview to the Times of India, Meghna Gulzar has said that Pakistanis who reside out of Pakistan (like Dubai) have liked the film immensely and the she is satisfied with their feedback. “Pakistanis who assumed that it will run down their country – when they saw it, they were surprised. They have come on social media to talk about it. This dialogue is my reward. This is the message I wanted to put across,” Meghna Gulzar told ToI. Why did Pakistanis like her movie? “To love your country does not mean to hate another. The two are not related. So, okay, I may not be a Pakistan-hater, so what? Does that mean that I don’t love my country? The two are not connected. In my orbit and my soul, they’re not connected. I can love my country without hating the saamne wala. It’s as simple as that. 95% of responses have been from people appreciating the fact that it is not jingoistic, especially in today’s time. It feels good to hear that.” Apparently, the film has released in Pakistan in the grey market and is quite popular there. In India, the movie has done very good business with a good opening during the weekend. It has already crossed over INR 55 crore, according to box office websites, and if it holds steady, it may enter the 100-crore mark. 42 | Jun 18

he Fawad Khan Connection to the SonamMahira Cannes Bonding

This year's Cannes film festival was all about woman-power. The red carpet moments of our desi girls including Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor sent the internet wild. But one more Asian actress made a smashing debut and that was Mahira Khan. Aside from her lovely outfits and the poise with which she carried them, Mahira also made news for her bonding with Sonam Kapoor. In a sweet image that took the internet by storm, Sonam was seen giving a peck to Mahira, almost in a protective manner before the latter's red carpet moment. Sonam also followed Mahira on the red carpet, looking resplendent herself. In fact, Sonam’s warm hug for Mahira Khan at the Cannes Film Festival could well be the best poster image of Indo-Pak cultural camaraderie in recent times. However, it didn’t happen on an impulse or all of a sudden, say sources. A source close to Sonam reveals, “Mahira and Sonam have shared warm vibes ever since Sonam co-starred with Mahira’s favourite co-star Fawad Khan in “Khubsoora” a few years ago. Mahira and Sonam got to know one another through Fawad. Then there is the Ranbir Kapoor factor common to both Sonam and Mahira. Both the actresses are known to have been close to Ranbir at some point in their lives.” Mahira and Sonam met with the warmth that one notices between artistes from both the countries in recent months. Very recently singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan announced he will be doing a version of Lata Mangeshkar’s song “Allah Tero Naam”. 44 | Jun 18

umours of Ajay Devgn Being Involved in a Helicopter Crash Celebrities becoming victim of WhatsApp hoax messaging is a new trend. Usually the trend is started by a mischief monger, who just types out a hoax and sends it in a WhatsApp group just for fun. Each WhatsApp group has a limit of 250 members. But when the same message is posted in different groups by different people, it instantly reaches 5000 (five thousand people) in a matter of minutes and the post becomes viral. This is how recently Ajay Devgn became a victim. It was rumoured that he is involved in a helicopter crash. No celebrity is spared from hoax messages and Ajay Devgn is the latest victim. From the past one week, WhatsApp forwards made the rounds that Ajay's chartered helicopter met with an accident wherein the pilot of the helicopter died on the spot. The forward also claimed that the crash occurred while Devgn was returning from a shooting near Mahabaleshwar.

However, the local police has stepped in to dispel the rumour. A senior police official from Mahabaleshwar police station, not wishing to be named told DNA, "If there had been a situation of Ajay Devgn's helicopter meeting with an accident or crashing anywhere in Mahabaleshwar or nearby we would have to come to know. We have checked and there is no such incident reported." The police officer added, "This message was being circulated a week ago also, and it has again started from Sunday. We are trying to ascertain as to who is spreading such fake news and sending forwards about helicopter crash." Mahabaleshwar is a hill station located in Maharahstra's Satara district of Maharashtra. 46 | Jun 18

SonamKapoor’s “Veere Di Wedding” Gets an 'A' Certificate

Director Shashanka Ghosh and producers Ekta and Rhea Kapoor’s “Veere Di Wedding” is being pitched as the chick flick of the year. But it was the two female producers, Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor’s respective fathers, Anil Kapoor and Jeetendra, who attended censor certification screening of “Veere Di Wedding”, the chick flick featuring the newly-married Sonam Kapoor , Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskara and Shikha Talsania. All the cusswords, abuses, profanities and gaalis that had shocked the prudes in the film’s trailer have been allowed to stay. That’s right. Audiences will have the singular pleasure of hearing Sonam use the forbidden Hindi ‘ch’ word and Kareena repeatedly use the ‘f’ word in English. There are also scenes showing the girls discussing sexual pleasure and a particularly jolting sequence showing one of the protagonists with a vibrator. Apparently several members of the CBFC were “dead against” letting the four heroines speak like what one CBFC member described as “drunk fisherwomen.” However the two proud protective star-papas thought otherwise. “Both Jeetendra and Anil Kapoor argued heatedly in favour of the colourful language spoken in “Veere Di Wedding”. They are convinced that today’s youngsters speak that foul lurid leery language. Some panel members objected. But finally the board members agreed to let the language remain intact and gave the film an ‘A’ certificate.” 52 | Jun 18

Heard This? Aditya Chopra Watched Tollywood Blockbuster 'Mahanati' in Secret

Not many people know this. But the super-reclusive producer-director and Yash Raj Films head honcho Aditya Chopra loves to watch films in every language, preferably with the ticket-paying public. A close friend of the exilic enigmatic director reveals, “Adi shuns all the offers to have private screenings for him as he feels he cannot get a proper feel of the audiences’ reaction unless he’s part of the public. He slips in quietly for a regular show when a movie starts, makes hand-written notes during the screening and slips out before he is recognized.” The latest film to get the Adi-treatment is the new Tamil-Telugu blockbuster 'Mahanti' that has been making waves. The film, starring Keerthy Suresh and Dulquer Salman, is based on the life and times of the legendary actress Savitri and Gemini Ganesan, actress Rekha's father. Adi Chopra saw the film and apparently loved it. “He has shown interest in acquiring the dubbing rights of the film. Adi Chopra feels the film should reach out to a pan-India audience. He would’ve loved to remake it into Hindi. But it’s a film that renders itself well only in the Tamil-Telugu cultural context,”says a source. Says the film’s co-producer Priyanka Gupta, “We are definitely looking at a pan-India audience for “Mahanati”. And yes, dubbing the film into Hindi is definitely one of the options. We are exploring various possibilities.” It remains to be seen if the film makes the same impact with a Hindi speaking audience. 54 | Jun 18

Did Deepika Padukone Get Her Ranbir Kapoor Tattoo Removed? No!

One of the most-talked about aspects of the Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone relationship was the RK tattoo the gorgeous actress had got etched at the nape of her neck. After their split, many wondered if the tattoo would remain or not. Time and again, TV cameras would focus on the spot and try to figure if the tattoo was there at the back of Deepika’s neck. However, the actress herself played it supremely cool and never gave the rumour mongers any cause to chatter. Eventually, the stories died down. They resurfaced once again during the ongoing Cannes Film Festival when it was reported that the ‘Ranbir’ tattoo, it seemed, had disappeared from Deepika’s neck. The design was no longer visible and speculations were rife that it had been surgically removed. Well, for all those who are curious, there is the answer. No, the tattoo has not been removed. Says a source in the know, “It’s there. It has just been covered with clever makeup. Deepika doesn’t plan to remove the tattoo at all. It is likely to remain on her neck for keeps as a reminder of her past impulses.” There was some discussion among the Padukone clan about altering the tattoo from ‘Ranbir’ to ‘Ranveer’. But apparently Deepika has shot down the idea. “Yeah it’s Ranveer Singh (in her life) now. But who knows about tomorrow?” says a friend of the actress. 56 | Jun 18

riyanka Chopra's Show 'Quantico' Closes Down, What Next for the Actress?

A few days ago, there was some discouraging news for Priyanka Chopra’s efforts to consolidate her international career. The American television production company ABC has decided to terminate her signature show “Quantico”. The popularity of the show has been waning and it was suspected for quite a while that the axe may fall on the show. With ABC cancelling the show Priyanka loses her biggest claim to fame in America. More than any of her other activities in the US, it is her association with “Quantico” and her popular character Alex Parrish that have brought her fame. Recently Priyanka was most excited to have shot for the show in Tuscany. “Quantico” lasted for three seasons with Priyanka. The end has come suddenly at a time when Priyanka is trying to rebuild her career in Bollywood by signing a film “Bharat” with Salman Khan. A source in the know feels Priyanka was not entirely unaware of Quantico’s fate. “She had seen it coming. This is why she was eager to sign a new Hindi film after a gap of nearly three years.” But can Priyanka reclaim her Indian market? Her last Hindi release Prakash Jha’s “Jai Gangaajal” was a disaster though she was greatly appreacited in “Bajirao Mastani” where she had to share credits with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Would Salman, who has played saviour to many damsels in distress author Priyanka’s comeback-story in Bollywood? 58 | Jun 18

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna Served With Legal Notice For Auctioning 'Rustom' Costume

As many as eleven serving defence officers and eight others have sent a legal notice to actors Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna, accusing the Bollywood couple of "playing with the sentiments" of the armed forces by putting up for auction a naval costume from the Hindi film "Rustom". The group, which also included the wife of a Navy man and seven retired officers, said it was offending that the actors had listed the costume as an "original naval uniform", which is obviously not true as it was a film costume. "Uniforms resembling those of the armed forces pose a potential threat to national security as the said uniform, insignia and badges could pass for genuine service clothing and can find their way to anti-national elements who can use it to foment trouble," the notice said, as reported by NDTV. A copy of the notice has also been sent to the auction house Salt Scout and the office of the defence minister too. The officers urged the minister to take action against the actors and to stop the auctioning of the outfit Mr Kumar wore in the 2016 film, a fictional account loosely based on the real-life case of Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati, charged with and then acquitted of killing his wife. "...by putting in auction 'Akshay Kumar's Rustom Naval Officer Uniform' you have shown no respect for national interest but have also played with the sentiments of armed forces personnel and their widows including my clients, who are retired, as well as serving armed forces officials and their family members," the notice read, according to NDTV. Mr Kumar had put the outfit up for the auction on April 26 in support of an NGO working for the cause of animal rescue and welfare. "Hi, all I'm thrilled to announce that you can bid to win the actual naval officer uniform I wore in Rustom! Auction's proceeds will support the cause of animal rescue and welfare. Place your bid at http://www.SaltScout.com," he wrote. The bid currently stands at Rs. 2,35,000. 64 | Jun 18

Alia Bhatt Reveals Why Bollywood Shies Away From Joining the #MeToo Movement While the Telugu film industry is in turmoil because of the #Metoo movement after an actress' semi-nude protest, the question is why has it not taken off in Bollywood yet, despite some stars voicing instances of being harassed? First of all, actresses in Bollywood have refused to take names. The allegations are all spoken of in general, against the practice of the casting couch. Everywhere else, even in Pakistan, the #Metoo movement has gained momentum because the accusations were against a specific person. Alia Bhatt at a recent media interaction revealed why Bollywood shies away from revealing names! Anupama Chopra during an interview with Alia, asked her why the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement haven’t come to Bollywood yet. It’s happened in Tollywood and also in Lollywood. Alia replied, “There’s a very big misconception that if you’ve been sexually assaulted or exploited molested in any way, with the kind of culture we come from, there’s a certain sense that it becomes your fault. I am saying this because I have played a similar role in my movie “Highway”. The girl also thinks ...Where will I go after this? Who is going marry me? How will people look at me?” Alia Bhatt further said, “In the small towns especially, there are a number of hospitals and medical bodies. Recently I had a conversation about this with someone, so I am saying that the people are not aware about the correct procedure to be followed after a girl has been inflicted either with rape or any sexual abuse. The hospitals are also not following procedures correctly after a girl has been inflicted with sexual abuse.” Anupama then asked her about why the movement hasn’t gathered momentum in Bollywood, despite the number of educated women, as compared to many other places. The actress explained, “It takes a lot of guts to come out and speak about it in front of others and first the girl need to know that it’s not her fault and nothing is going to happen to her.” 66 | Jun 18

Is Saba Qamar Headed to Hollywood Opposite Ben Affleck? Here is the Truth.... Though the media in Pakistan is on tenterhooks about Saba Qamar doing a Hollywood role opposite Ben Affleck, there is still no official confirmation about it. Yes, Saba Qamar is not going to Hollywood just yet. Sources in the production house and its distribution arm have confirmed that several Indian actresses are also being considered for the role which might not be good news for Saba. Saba - if she is keen on the role -- will have to clear the audition which is mandatory for all Hollywood films. The audition has not happened yet but she might have got a call. But because the news of the audition call has leaked, the whole Pakistani media is going ga ga over her possible role opposite Ben Affleck. The gossip and reports flying around say that she is rumoured to have bagged a role with “Batman” star and the Oscar-winning, Ben Affleck and the Pakistani media haven't stopped reporting on that ever since. Saba Qamar has been noticed in the Bollywood film, “Hindi Medium”, starring opposite Irrfan Khan. 68 | Jun 18

iger Shroff Interview: "The Success of “Baaghi 2” Wiped Away All the Humiliation I Faced in the Past" Meet the latest entrant to the 100-crore club. Actually, make that the 150-crore club. Tiger Shroff, son of Jackie and Ayesha Shroff is the toast of T’town after the stupendous success of “Baaghi 2” The film may have divided critics but the audience had nothing but love for the beefy actor as he pounded the villains and romanced the girl. Don’t forget, it was the same audience that initially trolled him for his unconventional looks. But Tiger didn’t react then, just as he isn’t reacting now. In fact, there is Zen like calm around him, as it’s efreshing to see a young star who is still as humble and polite as he was during his debut days. Quite like his dad, the inimitable Jackie Shroff.

However beneath that shy-guy façade, lies a young man of steely determination. His fitness levels, his mastery over martial arts and his skills on the dance floor have not come overnight. Tiger’s hard work and discipline are legendary among the young stars and it’s all paying off now. Karan Johar’s “Student of the Year 2” and Yash Raj’s next with Hrithik Roshan will take him even higher. The tiger has just started ruling… So Tiger, have you started throwing your weight around? God forbid! I hope that never happens. I’ll never forgive myself. More than me, my parents would be ashamed. I’d never forgive myself if I ever shame them. Your parents are ecstatic over the success of “Baaghi 2”… No one expected it to be big. I mean, come on, there is no Salman in the film. My producer Sajid Nadiadwala is in a daze. He told me, he hasn’t seen anything like this in his entire career as a producer. I can only thank him and my good fortune for relieving me of the tension I was going through. It was a tough time for you, wasn’t it? Very tough. After my debut in “Heropanti”, I was trolled mercilessly. It affected my parents. That’s why it affected me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have cared so much about what people said. 74 | Jun 18

But I knew my parents were hurt. My greatest vindication after the success of “Baaghi 2” is to see my parents smile. My father is not demonstrative by nature. But he hugged my mother and said he is proud of me. That wiped away all the humiliation and pain of rejection that I went through. How different does it feel to be a 100-crore hero? To me, personally it feels no different except that the dynamics of my anxiety has changed. Earlier I was anxious to be successful. Now, I’ve to be bothered about my next 100-crore film. Luckily “Student Of The Year 2” for which I’m shooting right now, and the film for Yash Raj with Hrithik Roshan are being talked about in the trade as solid follow-ups to “Baaghi 2”. How does it feel to be a part of Karan Johar’s posh plans in “Student of the Year 2”? Posh? Oh gosh! I feel blessed to be a part of Karan Sir’s team. Hope I help (director) Punit Malhotra take Karan Sir’ s franchise to a level that the audiences will never forget. The original film made Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt into overnight stars. What would the sequel do? There’s so much scope and potential in that franchise. And for me to follow the original students ….Man, they all are tough acts to follow up! Are you excited about sharing screen space with Roshan? And how! He’s been my childhood idol and inspiration. To be able to work with him so early in my career is a dream come true. We’ve lots of action scenes together, and apart. Hrithik Sir is and always will be the greatest superhero. I’m a fan of him and his alter-ego “Krrish”. I’ve watched his film a million times to study his body language and costumes. Now you will be compared with Hrithik Roshan... I can’t even begin to be compared with Hrithik Sir. He is the best. My “Flying Jatt” was Remo D’souza Sir’s attempt to do a different take on the super-hero genre. 76 | Jun 18

77 |Jun 18

Your dad Jackie Shroff did a super-hero film “Shiva Ka Insaaf” 30 years ago? That’s my all-time favourite film of my dad! As a child, I’ve watched it over and over again. Every son’s first hero is his father. My dad was my first super-hero. For me, he was Superman and Batman combined. I loved to see my Dad play the desi super-hero. My father didn’t have to try to be a super-hero. It came naturally to him. He was tall, well-built and his body-language rendered itself effortlessly to the super-hero mould. I had to work hard to get there. I hope I’m not compared with my father or with Hrithik Sir. They are even calling you the next Salman Khan… That’s really a bit too much. He is so senior and such a formidable star. I am only five films old. This comparison is unfair. It’s like being compared to my father. I made sure that I avoided that pitfall completely. Is that why you avoided doing a remake of your father’s “Hero”? With due respects to the remake, I didn’t want to be compared with him. In “Hero” my father was a full-on hero, larger-than-life, the ultimate pin-up boy. To compete with that would’ve been very foolish. But your “Baaghi 2” was a remake too? Yes, of the Telugu film “Kshanam”. But we only took on the core idea and reworked everything else. I completely avoided seeing “Kshanam” because I didn’t want to end up mimicking Adivi Sesh in the original. I think “Baaghi 2” is a completely different beast from “Kshanam”. Did you expect it to go this far? No, never. We were all sure it would get an audience. But for a film with me in the lead to make over Rs 70 crores in the first weekend and that too when there was no major holiday was unimaginable. This Good Friday proved really good for me. How has your life changed after Baaghi 2? Nothing has changed. I am still following the same regimented lifestyle. Yeah, my hair is 78 | Jun 18

longer for “Student Of The Year 2”. And I am losing the bulky army man’s look in “Baaghi 2” to look leaner as a student. That apart I haven’t changed. But people around me have changed. I can sense their new respect for my success. Not that anybody is falling at my feet or anything! Speaking of change, media reports suggest that your “Baaghi 2” co-star Disha Patani has changed, that she throws tantrums, etc. and that she embarrasses you? That is so unfair to someone who is just two films old. Disha has not changed at all. She is a sweet unassuming girl with a firm head on her shoulder. She’d be the last person to throw her weight around. Why are they talking like this about her? And why would she embarrass me? I am very proud of her. Your comment on your alleged relationship with Disha Patani? Ek hi Disha hai mere liye. Work, work and more work. I’d be the most unlikely candidate to get into a relationship at this stage of my life when my entire focus is on my career. My only love is my work. Besides, I am very bad at multi-tasking. I like to focus on only one aspect of my life. Are you monitoring Disha Patani’s career, clothes and movements? I am trying to look after my own career. Where will I fit in someone else’s career? Of course she’s special! All women are special. All my co-stars are very special. If I give fashion and 79 | Jun 18

career tips to one, I might as well give the same to all. Though mind you, I wouldn’t dare. It was also reported that you tell Disha which parties to attend… First of all, I don’t socialize. I don’t attend parties. So that’s out of the question. Secondly, who am I to tell anyone where to go and what to wear? I am the kind of guy who goes out for official appointments in a track pant, vest and chappals. Thirdly, I don’t consider myself knowledgeable enough to offer gyan on any subject to anyone. I am still trying to figure out what and where life is leading to. When are you coming out in the open about your relationship with Disha? Whatever we share professionally or personally is for us to share. Why do we need to talk about it in public? Jo hai so hai (whatever is there, is there). Krishna Shroff On Her Brother’s Rise To Stardom.. Not mom Ayesha Shroff, not friend Disha Patani. The most important woman in Tiger Shroff’s life is his sister Krishna Shroff And the proud sister just can’t stop raving over Tiger and his new film “Baaghi 2”. I feel Tiger brought something so new into the industry along with his launch, and he does what nobody else in the industry can do with his action and dance.” When it comes to a shared life, Krishna comes closest to Tiger. The proud protective sister exults, “I am extremely grateful to have a brother like Tiger. He’s so inspiring, not just in the way that he handles his professional life, but more for the person he is.” Krishna got a chance to work closely with Tiger when she assisted director Sabir Khan on Munna Michael. “Having had the opportunity to work with him on an entire film made me strive to better myself overall too. Over the past year, we’ve become closer than ever. I don’t think there’s a single person on this planet whom I love more. Tiger and I are best friends, so there’s nobody that he trusts more when it comes to his craft. Spending so much time around him motivates and inspires me to work harder.” 80 | Jun 18

Recently when Alia Bhatt appeared on Rajat Sharma's 'Aap Ki Adalat', she was asked about her relationship status but Alia did not answer that and stayed mum about it. Though Alia didn't say anything about her relationship status she has admitted it in the past that she has a crush on Ranbir Kapoor. Recently, at a press conference for IIFA 2018, where Ranbir Kapoor was present, the media asked Ranbir about Alia and her 'girl crush' on him, he said that now he has a boy crush on her and KJo even reacted with an 'Awwww'! ere's How To Prepare For The Summer Home Buying Season

Summer home buying season is just around the corner. A time when more homes are for sale, and house hunters scour the internet so they can devote their weekends to the open (house) trail. But a tight real estate market and stiff competition mean buyers need to bring their A game. You don’t want to fall in love with a home and then scramble around in an emotional tizzy to get your financial house in order. Good news! There’s a right way to prepare yourself, and it won’t take that long. Find your Financial Sweet Spot First things first – find a lender and go through the Pre-Approval process for a mortgage. Whether you’re buying your first home or trading up, it’s important to learn your financial sweet spot — the price range that’s affordable for you — by getting pre-approved for a mortgage. During a pre-approval, the lender will look at your income, debts, savings and credit history. The Pre-Approval will tell you the maximum you can borrow, a target purchase price, and your credit score. When complete, you’ll receive a pre-approval letter that you’ll include with any offer you make on a home. This is proof you can purchase the house, and it tells sellers you’re a serious, credible buyer. As you go through the pre-approval process, you’ll absorb information from talking with family 122 | Jun 18 Continued on Page 124-->

Continued from Page 122--> and friends. And while it can seem like two new questions pop up for each one you have answered, this is the time and place to learn information like, “Should you use cash savings to pay off debt or hold onto it?” You can also expect to: •Nail down your home-buying budget, so you know your target price range. •Learn about different loan programs and choose the best one for your situation. One size does not fit all. •Uncover possible landmines on your credit report, including incorrect or derogatory information. If this comes up, realize that it takes time to correct or minimize the impact. •Identify income issues that may affect loan approval, like a recent change from salaried employee to self-employed. •Figure out how much money you need and when you need it. Learn what lenders call your “cash to close,” which adds closing costs to the down payment. Learn All You Can You’ll gain a lot of knowledge as you go through the pre-approval process, and your homework should also include reading about the process in general. My #1 best-selling book, My First Home: A step-by-step guide to achieving the ultimate American Dream (available on Amazon) will fill in the gaps and help you prepare. Also, check out my blog www.MortgageBlog.com for hundreds of useful articles. Build Your Team And you’re going to need a strong team to help you purchase your home — a loan officer and real estate agent. You’ll spend a lot of time together and rely on their guidance as you go through the home buying process. Best practice for finding both includes asking family and friends for recommendations and doing a little sleuthing online. Look for a depth of knowledge and someone you feel comfortable talking to about your personal and private information. It’s not critical to pick either your Loan Officer or your Real Estate Agent first, but your team members need to work well together, and all three of you should form a cohesive team. Explore Your Future Neighborhood When you’ve done your homework and picked your team, it’s time to hit the open (house) trail! Your real estate agent will help you investigate neighborhoods you’ve had your eye on and add valuable insight on list price versus market price. After learning the size and condition of homes in your price range, you’ll know where you are willing to compromise and where you draw a hard line in the sand. Keep in mind, only 46% of buyers get the first home they make an offer to buy, according to a 2016 study done by Zillow. But if you take the time to get pre-approved and do your homework, you may be ahead of the competition. Person in Focus Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to adopt a sister. Little did I know that that was also on my parent's minds. My father, growing up in Chennai, India, also had a desire that some day he would adopt a child. He would even tell his parents that when he was little. Once my brother came along, we discussed it many times as well. We were so excited to bring our sister home last October from Asha Sadan in Mumbai! Life isn't always easy with a 2 year old, but we can't imagine it without her now! Almost ever year, for our birthdays, our parents ask us what charity we want to help out. When it was Priya's birthday, we decided it'd be cool to do something for her orphanage and the kids there. We were really lucky that she was in a great place that treated her well. The organization that her orphanage is a part of, has a great program called The Street Kids Project - designed to keep kids with their families. This serves the kids living on the streets with their families in Mumbai. The reason they do this is because many times parents cannot afford their kids, so they give them to the orphanage, in hopes of giving them a better life. But nothing is better than having a family. So this program is trying to keep the kids with their parents. Every day the kids go to school there, have a meal, then go back home. Right now they are helping 26 elementary kids! They are also sending 35 girls to college!! So my brother and I came up with a list of things that we wanted to do to help. Our mom contacted the board in India and told them our ideas, They gave us permission to do some of the things we wanted to do! This includes getting backpacks for the girls going to college, getting new shirts for the elementary kids, throwing them a party AND taking them all to Essel World - the local amusement park! We are super excited that we get to take them to the amusement park! We think every kid should get to do that at least once in their lives! We are lucky we get to go a lot, but some kids never get to go. I think my brother and I will never forget this trip! We started a fundraiser site - https://www.youcaring.com/thestreetchildrenofmumbaiandorphansinashasadan1122898. We are so psyched that we have raised almost $1700 already! But we wanted to do more. We need more to do all that we want to do for these kids. So, since my brother and I are in theatre, we figured we could do that! We are happy to say we are throwing a charity variety show at our theater home - Plano Children's Theatre in Plano, Texas. We decided to call it Children Helping Children. We are hosting it, and many of our friends and other local talent are participating. We will have Indian dancers, singers, and non-Indian performers as well. My brother and I will do some little Ganesh plays we have made for our Appa before. We may even have henna and Mumbai street food! We really hope we fill the theatre! The tickets for that are at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3391278. It's going to be 7/7 @ 7! That's July 7th at 7pm at the Willow Bend Center for the Arts. At the end of July we will be meeting up with the kids in Mumbai and doing all this! We are super excited. And who knows, maybe this can be an annual thing. My brother and I think we can make a charity where we get more kids to help kids all over the world! Wouldn't that be cool?! Primo (11) and his brother Geo (7) live with their parents and their new sister, Priya (2) in Lucas, Texas. They also have 2 dogs, Dhoom and Krrish, named after their favorite Hrithik Roshan characters. They visit India annually to see family. They hope to visit Asha Sadan every year now, too! If you'd like to be added as a performer for their concert or help in any other way, please email their mom at cramsekaran@msn.com
