Dear Friends, Why did the Mona Lisa become one of the most famous paintings of all times? That's a question an incredible amount of people have asked themselves in the past. And one possible answer is this....because of her unique smile.

The smile is "the symbol that was rated with the highest positive emotional content". After a discussion on which words matter the most when we talk, digging into the facts of smiling was one of the most mentioned suggestions.

The science of smiling....what happens ....let's say you experience a positive situation and you see a friend you have not met in a long time... neuronal signals travel from the cortex of the brain to the brain stem. From there the cranial muscle carries the message further to the smiling muscles of your face. Sounds simple....but that's only where it starts....once the smiling muscles in our face contract, there is a positive feedback loop that goes back to the brain and reinforces our feeling of joy. To put more succinctly, "smiling stimulates our brain's reward mechanisms in a way that even chocolate, which is a well-regarded pleasure-inducer, cannot match."

Smiling activates the release of neuro peptides that work towards fighting off stress. They facilitate messaging to the whole body when we are happy, sad, angry, depressed, or excited. The feel-good neurotransmitters - dopamine, endorphins, serotonin, are all released when a smile flashes across your face. This not only relaxes your body, but can also lower your heart rate and blood pressure. The endorphins also act as a natural pain-reliever....100 % organic and without the potential negative side effects of synthetic concoctions. The serotonin serves as an anti-depressant/mood lifter. Many of today's pharmaceutical anti-depressants also influence the levels of serotonin in your brain, but with a smile, you again don't have to worry about negative side effects, and you don't need a prescription from your doctor.....so lots of smiling can actually be good for your health.

Smiling also seems to give us the same happiness that exercise induces in terms of how our brain responds. In short, our brain feels good and tells us to smile, we smile and tell our brain it feels good and so forth. Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.

Scientists and spiritual teachers alike agree that a simple act of smiling can transform you and the world around you. Current research and common sense shows us that a smile is contagious. It can make us appear more attractive to others. It lifts our mood, as well as the moods of those around us. And it can even lengthen our lives. So slap a nice genuine smile on your face....for you will thank me later.

Mother Theresa said that every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love....a gift to that person....a beautiful thing.

Making one person smile can change the world.....maybe not the whole world, but you will change their world.

"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living."

Nothing you wear is more important than your smile. Each time you smile, you throw a little feel good party in your brain.

Putting a smile on your face can reduce your stress and anxiety so it is important to find things that make you want to smile. If smiling can make you happier, then your happiness can make you more productive. Think of all the wonderful things that you and your smile can accomplish.

Also you are actually better-looking when you smile.....people treat you differently....you are viewed as attractive, reliable, relaxed, and sincere.

A study published in the journal Neuropsychologia reported that seeing an attractive, smiling face activates your orbito frontal cortex, the region in your brain that processes sensory rewards....this suggests that when you view a person smiling, you actually feel rewarded.

This also explains the 2011 findings by researchers at the Face Research Laboratory at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Subjects were asked to rate smiling and attractiveness. They found that both men and women were more attracted to images of people who made eye contact and smiled than those who did not. If you don't believe me, see how many looks you get when you walk outside with that smile you are wearing now....you are still smiling like I asked you to, right?

"Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning, and you will start to see a big difference in your life," said Yoko Ono. Lighten up, just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don't get so worked up about things.....we all smile in the same language....and that smile is the universal welcome.

Happy News! Katrina and Jacqueline Patch up!

Salman Khan’s current concert tours in the US and Canada are proving a success in more ways than one. Not only are the concerts getting fabulous footfalls Salman has managed a miracle of sorts by bringing about a rapprochement between his two allegedly warring lady friends Katrina Kaif and Jacquline Fernandez.

Apparently Salman told both the ladies to give up their mutual hostilities.

“Salman sat them down one evening and even offered to lock them up in one room until they sorted out their differences, just like Jeetendra had locked up Sridevi and Jaya Prada once upon a time! But such extreme measures were not required, as Katrina and Jacqueline kissed and hugged in Salman’s presence and promised to remain cordial to one another.

What’s more, they’ve kept their word and are often spotted together when not performing on stage during the current concerts tours,” says a member of Salman’s team.

That’s what we call Bhai-chara.

Earlier, reports said that the lovely Katrina and Jacqueline didn’t exactly share warm vibes on the tour. However, professionals that they are, it didn’t impact their stage performances.

Hopefully they will continue to remain cordial.

'I May be A Soft Target But I am Not a Victim': Sunny Leone Lashes Out

Sunny Leone is still a controversial figure and everything that she does or says makes news.

The former adult movie star may have changed her image completely but that hasn’t stopped people from raking up her past every now and then.

But do these hurtful comments affect her? Not in the least!

Sunny says that she just brushes off the hurtful things that people tell her.

She says that she's sure about one thing: she never ever wants to feel or talk like a victim.

"I don't see myself as a victim but I may be a soft target. I believe people should have the right to say what they want to, when they want to, how they want to, whether it's right or wrong is their choice and moral stand. Most of the time I brush it off because it's nonsense...

Sometimes it gets on my nerves. Does it hurt me? No. Is it annoying? Yes," Sunny said on the sidelines of the launch of her biographical web series, “Karenjit Kaur- The Untold Story of Sunny Leone.�

Asked if there were portions from her life she did not want the film to explore, Leone said, "A lot (of them)". Leone described the process of narrating her story to the show's writers as full of "laughter and a lot of tears".

"It had to make sense to our story. So whether it was a good thing or bad, I had to tell it all.

We sat for six months where I just told stories about myself and from those stories we have made 20 episodes. I'm still trying to get convinced if I did the right thing but what Aditya (director) has shot, it's really beautiful. I'm happy the director let me be me. I'm still on the fence whether it was the right choice or the wrong. I know deep down it was the right choice. I'm just scared, that's all," she added.

Diljit Dosanjh: 'I Am Humbled By The Response To My Performance' Diljit Dosanjh’s performance as hockey champ Sandeep Singh is winning exceptional laurels. The man himself— Diljit—remains humble, down to-earth and rooted to the soil.

“I knew Soorma was a role of a lifetime. I am ashamed to say when Shaad Sir (director Shaad Ali) came to me with the project I didn’t know anything about Sandeep Paaji. It’s a shame that we do not give the same respect and position to hockey as we do to other games in the country,” says Diljit regretfully as he embarks on a new phase in his acting career.

The preparations to play the part took Diljit right into the field. “A role like “Soorma” happens once in a lifetime. I learnt to play hockey from scratch. And it had to be hockey on a competent level. I was playing Sandeep Singh. I couldn’t afford to look like an amateur.I learnt the game from Sandeep Paaji and and his elder brother (Bikram Singh) . By the time I was ready to face the camera I was confident of my game,” says Diljit.

So can Diljit now think of playing hockey for the country? He laughs, “Arrey Nahin, Sir. Kahan? Bahot mehnat karni padti hai. The fact that people have found me convincing as Sandeep Singh is reward enough for me. I was playing a legend whom I had come to respect immensely as I got to know about him. I couldn’t afford to goof up. Now I am humbled by the response to my performance. Sandeep Paaji has brought great honours for our country. I’m honoured to play him.”

He hopes “Soorma” will create awareness about the game of hockey. “When I go to Haryana and my home state Punjab, I see children everywhere playing hockey. But not outside these two states. Why? Why is there no glamour prestige and power attached to the game of hockey in the rest of the country? If “Soorma” can create even some awareness of what a difficult and involving game hockey is, I’d think my efforts have paid off.”

Diljit’s next film is “Arjun Patiala”, a comedy where he shares screen space with Kriti Sanon.

“I am learning from every film that I do. It’s an ongoing process. “Arjun Patialia” is a comedy being produced by Maddock Films. It is a script that caught my attention. I am looking at a couple of other films. But I am not anxious to do films. My first love remains music and singing. I’ve sung one of the songs “ Ishq di baajiyan” in “Soorma”. All the other songs are rendered by Shankar Mahadevan Sir. They were recorded before I came on board.” Ishq di baajiyan” was also sung by Shankar Sir. But when I came on board I re-did it.”

Dilijit is now preparing to release a music album. “Not digitally, but an actual album that one can hold in one’s hand physically. It’s been a while since we stopped doing that.”

Trust Diljit Dosanjh to draw attention to an endeavour that’s lost its sheen.

Explosive! Imran Khan's Ex-Wife Reham Spills the Beans on his Affair with a 70s Actress

In the last few weeks, the only chatter in political circles of Pakistan has been regarding former cricketer and politician Imran Khan’s ex-wife Reham Khan’s explosive autobiography.

Imran, who is vying to be the next Prime Minister of the country, has been painted rather poorly (that’s an understatement) in the book, some chapters of which were leaked.

Now, more shocking details have emerged and this time, it’s about Imran’s affair with a legendary leading actress of the 70s. The way the descriptions are provided, it is not a matter of guess who this beauty was. However, Reham has been careful enough to not name the star though she has given enough hints.

Here is what she has written. The account is shocking to say the least.

“Considered to be one of the sexiest heroines of all time, there had been rumours of Imran and her,” writes Reham Khan. “We had heard these whilst we were growing up. Imran confirmed to me that they were true. Though Imran was happy to sexually engage with actresses, he and the family clearly thought little of them. He recalled with a smile how his mother had been called by the newspapers, asking about the actress. She had replied, ‘My son would never marry a prostitute!’ and slammed the phone down.”

“Imran’s stories always painted the women in an unflattering light. He told me how he met her in Bombay, had his fill, and moved on. But, according to Imran, the lady followed him to London and became clingy. Imran said she scared him because she would ask to be slapped around during sex. Apparently, she was used to this kind of violence. Her boyfriend at the time had reportedly hit her in front of his guests at a party in a hotel, and so badly that her eye was left with permanent damage. I would check both these stories with a film producer friend of hers months later, who told me that it was actually Imran who had chased her, and that she had been very financially benevolent towards him. The sexy bombshell of the 70s had described the interaction with our mutual friend rather disparagingly (in her filmy words) as, ‘Naam baray aur darshan chotay’ (the hype was bigger than the rather small package on offer).”

Can you guess who we are talking about? Yes, your guess is as good as ours.

Why Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have STOPPED Talking About Their Relationship

You won’t hear either Alia Bhatt or Ranbir Kapoor talking about their relationship, and with good reason. The couple is apparently superstitious about their newly-found affection for one another.

A friend of Ranbir discloses, “He has been in several relationships that have not worked out and would like nothing more than to opt for an emotional stability missing in his life so far.

Alia makes Ranbir feel better about himself than anyone he has met. He desperately wants the relationship to work out.”

Alia too has been in a dead-end relationship with Siddharth Malhotra. Neither Ranbir nor Alia is keen to shout out from rooftops about their relationship. Apparently Karan Johar who is close to both Ranbir and Alia has also advised the couple to “lie low” until they are sure of their relationship. When I asked a close friend of Ranbir’s about the secrecy surrounding his new relationship the friend said, “Give them a chance to let their relationship grow. At the moment anything that Ranbir says would sound like more publicity for his new hit film SANJU.” Ranbir Kapoor had created a sensation when he had confessed to a magazine that he was dating Alia Bhatt who is his co-star in his movie” Brahmastra”. While they haven’t gone all out declaring their relationship status, they have been rather circumspect in the last few weeks.

Was Sanjay Dutt's Second Wife Rhea Pillai Upset with 'Sanju'? HERE Is the Truth Ever since its release, the Sanjay Dutt biopic “Sanju”, directed

by Rajkumar Hirani, starring Ranbir Kapoor has been making waves. The box office figures are magical but opinion over the film seems to be divided. While everyone has appreciated the performances and the entertainment value it offers, critics have also ripped it apart for what they deem to be a ‘dishonest’ portrayal of anjay Dutt’s life.

For one, while his relationship with his father and his drug and guns phase have been dealt with in detail, his many relationships with wom en have been conveniently left out.

Rajkumar Hirani had said that it was deliberately not included because any mention might cause embarrassment to the women concerned.

Sanjay Dutt had three marriages, each of which was much-discussed.

He was married to Richa Sharma in 1987 but she later tragically died of cancer. He then married model-turned-Art of Living teacher Rhea Pillai in 1998 but they got divorced in 2005.

Finally, he met and married Maanyata Dutt with whom he has two kids.

The movie shows his relationship with Maanyata (portrayed by Dia Mirza) but makes no mention of his previous two wives or his daughter from his first marriage, Trishala, who is currently in New York. Now, according to a report in a website, his second wife Rhea was upset about being completely side-lined despite playing an important part in Sanjay’s life, especially during his gun phase.

But as it turns out, the news was fake. An angry Rhea Pillai took to Facebook to completely deny the story. “What irresponsible media reporting! I have had no such conversation with any journalist. When will there be accountability for what is written, misinformation and misrepresentation!!”

Rhea further added that she was putting it out on social media as she wanted to clarify her stand.

Wait, What? Salman Khan to LOSE All his Muscles?

Ask any actor about what he aspires to be and chances are that he will say ‘method actor’.

This much-used (and some say, abused term) refers to a process where the actor goes to extreme length to become a character, including body transformations.

It was Aamir Khan who has always been a method actor and he is always known to become the character he is portraying in real life. There are numerous actors like Ranveer Singh who are known as method actors among the current crop. Ranbir Kapoor also went through method acting while acting in “Sanju”.

But can you associate Salman Khan with method acting? Not really! But it looks like that’s what the “Bajrangi Bhiajaan” actor will be doing soon for his next film “Bharat”. Not known as a good actor (at least by standards of critics) Salman has long been said to approach his roles casually. But it’s going to change for “Bharat” as Salman, is apparently undergoing extreme body transformation!

In a nutshell, the beefy Salman that his fans love will change to a lean Salman in this film!

"Most of you have noticed but Salman has already lost most of his muscles. He doesn't want people to know, so he will be seen in oversized T-shirts and not the tight ones that he is usually seen wearing. He will be getting rid of all his muscles for the film," said a source close to the star.

The film also stars Priyanka Chopra as his female lead. Disha Patani also plays an important part.Look at Salman Khan's present physique and he is further going to reduce. Apparently, Salman will be sporting five looks in the film. The shooting starts after his Dabangg Reloaded tour.

'Yes I Am Doing Karan Johar's Film,' Nagarjuna Confirms “Brahmastra” Nagarjuna’s career is going great guns. While his new Telugu film to be directed by newcomer Sriram Adittya is on the floors, Nagarjuna has taken off to Europe for a ten-day shooting of his first Hindi film in 15 years. Just before his departure Nagarjuna spoke exclusively to this writer. “Yes, I am doing “Brahmastra”. It is my first Hindi film in a very long time. I can’t remember when was the last time I did a Hindi film. I think it was Mahesh Bhatt’s “Zakhm”.

When reminded that his last Hindi film was J P Dutta’s “LOC” in 2003, Nag’s memory is nimbly nudged. “Oh yes, “LOC”. But that was a brief role, though a lot of fun to do.

“Zakhm” was my last full-fledged role in a Hindi film.

I still remember Alia Bhatt as a child on Bhatt saab’s set. Now I am working with her in “Brahmastra”. How time flies!”

Nag is looking forward to working with the entire “Brahmastra” team. “Except Amitji (Bachchan) with whom I’ve worked in “Khuda Gawah”, they are all new to me.

I’m working for the first time with Karan Johar, (director) Ayan Mukerjee, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.”

The actor who has in the past shone in Hindi films like “Angaaray”, “Criminal” and “Zakhm” sounds a bit surprised at being offered a major Hindi film at this stage of his career. “My career in Andhra keeps me busy. I’ve not shown any inclination to do a Hindi film, though I’m open to doing films in any language if the set-up is good. “Brahmastra” was impressive from the moment it came to me. I said yes immediately and now here I am on my way to shoot for it. I am looking forward to it.”

Ask him about his role and he says, “I am not supposed to say much. To be honest, I’m not very sure of the extent of my role. But it’s a pivotal part. And they probably thought of me because the role suits my personality.”

Heard This? Indian Bankers are UPSET With Amitabh Bachchan A couple of days ago, Amitabh Bachchan an ad for Kalyan Jewellers in which his daughter Shweta was also featured. But this has created a huge controversy with Indian bankers. Yes, you read it right. The Indian bank union has condemned the superstar for appearing in an ad that they say, creates a "distrust" in the banking system. All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, an organisation claiming to have membership of around 3,20,000 officers, today threatened to sue Kalyan Jewellers accusing it of “casting aspersion and hurting the sentiments of millions of personnel” through the advertisement, reports PTI. AIBOC general secretary Soumya Datta alleged that the theme, tone and tenor of the ad were “disgusting, derogatory, to say the least and is aimed to create distrust in the banking system, for pure commercial gain.”

Kalyan Jewellers rejected the allegation, saying it was “pure fiction.” “We understand that your esteemed association feels that the bankers have been portrayed in bad light. We state it on record that it is a pure fiction and at no point we have intended to generalize the bank officers at large,” Kalyan jewellers said in a letter to Datta.

“Please accept our unconditional disclaimer for the same. We shall within three working days from today add characters and situations depicted are fictional. The brand does not intend to disrespect or malign any person or community’ before the advertisement,” it said.

So what is so derogatory about the ad that features Bachchan as an old man and Shweta Bachchan Nanda as his daughter? In the ad, Bachchan, depicted as a person with integrity and honesty, is seen visiting a bank branch along with his daughter to return the extra money credited in his pension account, only to have a bitter encounter with bank employees in the process.

Bachchan had tweeted yesterday the video of the ad, saying “Emotional moment for me .. tears welling up every time I see it .. daughters are the best!”

Popular Malayalam actor Manju Warrier acts as his daughter in the advertisement’s Malayalam version. AIBOC said in the ad, Bachchan tries to exhibit his honesty by drumming around that ‘honesty doesn’t mean when everyone is watching, rather it is about being honest when nobody is looking at you. But, Mr Bachchan perhaps was unaware that in the process of doing so on screen, he has made a mockery of the entire bankers’ community in the ad which is deplorable and culpable,” it said in a statement.

Demanding an unconditional apology from the jewellery group, the AIBOC said if the advertisement was not withdrawn, suitable “organisational action, including dharnas and litigation” would be initiated. Abraham Shaji John, AIBOC’s Kerala unit secretary, also condemned the advertisement, saying “it has defamed bank employees.”

Hrithik’s sister Sunaina’s Emotional Blog on her Cancer Will Tear you Up Hrithik Roshan's sister Sunaina has penned an emotional blog about her battle with cervical cancer. She also writes emotionally how she decided not to go abroad for treatment and spend her days in India at the hands of an able doctor.

"My brother visited all the best doctors in quest of finding the right one for treating me here in India as I was against the idea of being treated abroad. Finally his doctor friend referred us to doctor Sachin Almel and only after having all his doubts cleared, did Duggu agree to let me be treated under the able hands of Dr.Sachin," she says emotionally about her brother Hrithik in the blog titled “Zindagi”.

Sunaina is one of the few Bollywood celebrities who have successfully defeated cancer and is now living a healthy life.

In her blog, she details how her chemotherapy and the fear of losing her hair affected her family. “When I was scheduled for my first chemotherapy, I was taken to an ICU as a precautionary measure so that I would not develop any complications and even each drug was given to me separately,” writes Sunaina. “In all of this chaos, the only question I would keep asking the doctor was if I would lose my hair. I must have asked him the same question at least 15 times if not more. The fact is that the dreaded word ‘cancer’ did not really worry me but losing my hair or shaving my hair did. My family never saw me in tears during this phase of me fighting cancer.... never once did I get depressed nor negative about it but, the thought of losing my hair did really depress me. My brother would scan the net and ask all possible people to see if there was any way a cancer patient did not lose hair, but he found no solution. It apparently was an unavoidable side effect of the chemo sessions and one had to accept this fact as it is.”

She further adds that Hrithk was deeply affected when he saw her bald. “The one person who was most affected seeing me bald was my brother, he tried his best to control his tears in front of me. He was hoping that there maybe even 0.1% chance that his sister didn’t have to shave her head off.”

Sunaina Roshan also explains how Priyanka Chopra stood by her during her ordeal.

Yay! Kareena Kapoor Khan To Finally work With Karan Johar Again

Mithun Chakraborty's Son Mimoh Gets Bail After Rape Allegation, Gets Married The last few days have been tough for Mithun Chakraborty and his family. His son Mimoh was accused of rape by an ex-girlfriend and then cops crashed in on his wedding to another girl, Madalsa Sharma.

However, that hasn’t dampened the spirit of the Chakrabortys as the first thing Mimoh did after he got bail in the rape case filed by a Bhopuri actress, was to get married!

Yes, after his marriage got briefly stalled due to police intervention a few days ago, Mahaakshay Chakraborty aka Mimoh announced on social media that he has gotten married. The actor tied the knot with his girlfriend in Ooty on July 10 and the pics were distributed discreetly to the press. The traditional wedding ceremony took place at Mithun’s luxurious hotel in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

A court in Delhi had earlier said that prima facie there are sufficient grounds for registration of an FIR against the actor’s wife and son, and to proceed further in accordance with the law. Following the order, Mahaakshay and his mother approached the Bombay High Court seeking anticipatory bail or an interim relief from arrest till the time they approached the concerned court in the national capital. However, the court dismissed the pleas and refused to grant them any interim relief and said the duo could approach the court concerned in Delhi.

In her plea, the complainant had alleged that Mahaakshay had cheated and raped her after being in physical relation with her for around four years on the pretext of marriage. The woman alleged that when she became pregnant, Mahaakshay had given her some medicine which led to an abortion, reported The Hindustan Times.

In her complaint, she also claimed that Yogeeta Bali had threatened her of dire consquences if she continued the relationship. The complainant also said she moved to Delhi from Mumbai as she feared for her life in view of threats made by Bali and her son.

However, now Maahakshay has declared on social media that he is married.

However there is a huge question mark hovering over the future of this marriage as sources indicate the star-son’s former live-in girlfriend intends to take her criminal allegations all the way to its “logical conclusion”.

Says a close friend of Mithun Chakraborty, “The registered wedding is a face-saving device after the cops stopped the formal wedding. But the family is under tremendous strain. This is not the kind of hush-rush wedding Mithunda and his wife Yogita Bhabhi had planned for their only son.Sources indicate that Mithun would try for an out-of-court settlement with the alleged victim. But would she be willing to relent at a time when rape laws are being implemented in the sternest possible ways?

Sushant Singh Rajput To Work with 'Dangal' Director Sushant Singh Rajput’s career is on a roll. After a series of setbacks with film-projects being shelved or delayed, things are again falling into place for this committed star-actor.

The latest of all things Sushant is a prestigious project with the “Dangal” director Nitesh Tiwari. The topical film, to go on the floors early next year, will feature Sushant as a real-life character grappling with corruption.

Blessedly the producer this time is the tried-andtested Sajid Nadiadwala who has had a string of hits in the recent past including the “Housefull” series and “Baaghi 2” earlier this year.

Says a source close to the development, “Sushant is done with projects that fall by the wayside due to weak producers. He is happy to work in projects where the production house is strong and reliable.”

Apparently both director Nitesh Tiwari and Sushant are being paid in double digits by the ever-generous Nadiadwala. And we are talking crores.

Sushant, despite having had a huge hit in 2016’s “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story” had been facing tough luck with some of his recent projects. The much-touted “Kedarnath” that was to be Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan’s debut got entangled in a fight between its director Abhishek Sharma and producer Prernaa Arora.

Veteran Actress Rita Bahaduri Passes Away, Friend Shabana Azmi Remembers her Classmate Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri who has acted in over 70 movies and numerous TV shows and ad campaigns has passed away.

Reports say she was hospitalised from the last 10 days and had been rather ill for a while. In a Facebook post, actor Shishir Sharma wrote, “We deeply regret to inform you that Reeta Bahaduri has departed for her journey beyond. The funeral rites wered held on 17th July at the Cremation Ground, Parsi Wada Road, Parshiwada, Chakala, Andheri East. Extremely sad.. lost a wonderful human being .. a mother to many of us.. will miss u Ma…” Rita’s most famous movies were “Julie” (the 70s hit where she portrayed actress Lakshmi’s friend) and 90s hits like “Beta”, “Raja”, “Dil Vil Pyaar Vyar” among others. She was also hugely popular on TV with shows like “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai”, “Choti Bahu”, “Kumkum”, “Khichdi” and many others.

One of her closest friends in the industry was Shabana Azmi who studied with her in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

An emotional Shabana recalls her time with Rita…

“There is something so matter of fact, almost cold about this question, ‘Your thoughts on Rita Bhaduri?’ I am yet to fully comprehend that my classmate from FTII passed away this morning. I’m on my way to her house and the phone hasn't stopped ringing .Perfunctory questions... your reactions please?. How strange that I mentioned her in a piece I wrote on the FTII days just three days ago .We were in touch on a whatsapp group of FTII classmates.

I got a message yesterday that her condition was critical. She fell down at a shooting a month ago and injured her spine. Unfortunately she contracted an infection and had to undergo another surgery. She was in excruciating pain because she was on dialysis and could not be administered strong pain killers. And today she is gone. With her gone my memories of an easy comradeship, much laughter and affection that comes from living together.

Although we didn’t share a room at the FTII hostel, I was in the habit of clambering into her bed on waking up. For as long as I can remember I used to snuggle into my parents’ bed first thing in the morning. When I left home for FTII, it was Rita’s bed I would tumble into, my eyes only half-opened. There was something cute and impish about her.We used to call her Tanuja (veteran actress) because of her effervescence. She was a good student, my closest competitor in class but that didn’t colour our friendship. And then life happened. We went our separate ways. Maskara Gop bhi mar gaya .. hum bhi mar jayenge .

Priyanka Won't Be Getting a Big Fat Pay Packet for her next Bollywood Film. Here's Why

Priyanka Chopra is going all out to re-establish her career in Bollywood. And we welcome her back. She is after all, a global star and has done the country proud. However there are several stories being propagated about her comeback all of which make her look bigger and more market friendly than any other current reigning divas.

Firstly, there was the news about her first post-comeback Bollywood film. It was claimed that Priyanka was being paid Rs 12 crores for the Salman Khan starrer “Bharat”.

“False,” says a source from the Bharat team. “In fact Priyanka generously offered to do the film for free. Bhai (Salman Khan) insisted on a token fee of Re 1 crore.” The new story doing the rounds is about Priyanka Chopra’s pay for her second post-comeback film to be directed by Shonali Bose: it says that Priyanka won’t take any upfront payment for the project but will instead share in the profits.

According to a report in Mid-day, “"Shonali Bose's film banks on Priyanka and Zaira Wasim, who plays her daughter in the movie. Priyanka understood that if she needed to make this venture feasible, she couldn't command her regular fee. In such a scenario, she thought it would be better to take a share of the film's spoils after it has done well. This is the first time a Bollywood actress will be doing this. So far, we have usually seen male actors demand a cut of the profits since they pump in the money as well."

However the spokesperson for producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor completely debunks this myth. “There is no truth to the story about Priyanka Chopra sharing in the profits of the aforementioned film. In fact we told the tabloid it’s not true. But they insisted on carrying the story anyway,” says the official spokesperson for Sidharth Roy Kapoor’s production house.

Thankfully he raised an alarm immediately. According to DNA, Ayushmann Khurrana was shocked when he accidentally chanced upon an announcement that claimed he was on board to play the lead in a film. He also noticed that an unknown producer was promoting this movie online and scouting candidates to be cast opposite him. The actor decided to address this issue and set things right.

Ayushmann decided to clear the air immediately. “He was troubled when he realised that someone was using his name to cast actors. So, he put up a post on his social media handle clarifying that he hasn’t signed the movie in question and told people to be alert,” says a source to DNA. The paper further states that the post by the actor had an immediate effect. The source points out, “After he informed people that he hadn’t signed any such film, the post by the team claiming to make the movie changed. They put up a statement saying, ‘Due to some reason we have changed the male lead role character (Ayushmann Khuranna), we take up new actor for male lead role’. This is an issue that’s a matter of concern for the industry.

People just drop names of celebrated faces and try to cast/start a movie.

Such issues should be addressed immediately so that vulnerable people aren’t duped.”

Angad attributes the “Soorma” success to God, his wife and destiny. “I’ve been working very hard to build a portfolio of work that some day our children would be proud of.

Luckily for me, this is a time when stars and superstars no longer rule for ever. That era will end with Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman. Actors today have to prove themselves every Friday. Audiences go for the character and performance, not the actor. My inspiration are actors like Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurana and Ranveer Singh. Look at how Varun Dhawan combines a “Judwaa 2” with “October”. And just how Vicky Kaushal is making a mark.”

Perhaps now it is Angad’s turn? “I certainly hope so! If “Soorma” is getting me noticed I have the director Shaad Ali to thank for it. He let me play Diljit Dosanjh’s brother the way I wanted to. He was there to guide me.” The fact that Angad shared great vibes with Diljit only made the job easier. “He is like my real brother. I wish another director would again cast us together . How I used to love watching Mr Bachchan and Mr Shashi Kapoor together! They too must have shared a great bond together. My rapport with Diljit is very special. And he’s such a sorted actor. I think it’s really important to have competent co-stars. Only then can one give a good performance. Diljit would give me cues from behind the camera even when he was not required to be on camera. I guess I was just lucky to have him as a co-star.”

Angad feels marriage is the best thing to have happened to him. “Neha and I were part of a very small tightly-knit group of close friends. Others in the group like Yuvraj Singh and Gaurav Chopra got married. That left only two of us. So we decided to get married.

Seriously, Neha is my best friend and so independent-minded. She comes from a naval family and knows her mind. I love the work she does with Rajat Kapoor, Saurav Shukla and Vinay Pathak.”

Angad is eager for his father, the legendary cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi, to watch “Soorma”.

“He saw “Pink” with Mr Bachchan and was very pleased with my work. He hasn’t seen “Soorma” so far.

He is in Punjab to pay condolences to the family of a deceased sports-person.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui: "SACRED GAMES Challenged my Skills as an Actor"

This is the first time you’re doing a web series.

How was the experience shooting for “Sacred Games”?

It was a good experience, that completely challenged my skills as an actor. Ganesh Gaitonde is a very complex character, and to bring him alive in the allotted time during the shoot was a real challenge. I was shooting for two to three months continuously. It was an exhausting and hectic schedule. The advantage of shooting a series is that it allows you to go into full detail of the character. As an actor, I had a great time shooting for a series.

Gaitonde’s character is very complex. How did you prepare for the role?

Me and my director, Anurag Kashyap, go back a long way. This was a big advantage as he knew me personally so the character was created in a way that I could easily relate to him.

Have you read Vikram Chandra’s novel yet? And did it help in your preparation?

Yes, I read it during the shoot. Gaitonde’s character has many layers to it. The advantage of reading the book was that I was made to understand the character in much detail, which I probably wouldn’t be able to do if I was just going according to the script.

I like reading in general. I especially enjoy reading books that analyze the subject in detail....Where you can read and feel two sides of the same character.

What is your most favorite thriller till date?

My most favorite thriller was Raman Raghav.

Coming back to Gaitonde, how were you able to humanize his character from the novel?

The challenges were that not everything from the book could be adapted. You can never adopt every detail from a character in a book while bringing it to life. You can only adopt the essence of it. The most important aspects that helped when bringing Giatonde to life was some details from Vikram Chandra’s novel, the surroundings we were shooting in and my co-actors.

How different was the character of Gaitonde to the negative character you played in “Badlapur”?

I wouldn’t really call my character negative in “Badlapur”. He was a normal man who commits a murder by mistake and wasn’t to make up for his sin. He realizes his mistake and wants to make amends. These aspects make it very different to the character of Ganesh Gaitonde.

As an actor you have played very different characters. How do you adapt to different kinds of roles?

For us as actors this is not very challenging. Thanks to the film schools we all have attended.

We have been trained to get in and out of characters easily. Whether it’s a character in a Shakespeare play or a Bollywood film, we have the knack to essay both roles side by side.

Do you watch Netflix? Which is your favorite series?

I watch almost all the series, but my current favourite is “Narcos”.

Danny Denzongpa on Playing a Challenging Character in 'Bioscopewala' Trying to equal the intensity of the great Balraj Shani’s portrayal of the “Kabuliwala” adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's story, in the classic 1961 film of that name, is not an easy task.

Danny Denzongpa, who is rarely seen on screen nowadays, is not even going there in “Biocopewalla”.

“To equal Balraj Sahni is not even a possibility. He is such a great actor. I’m doing it my own way, hoping I’d make some impact,” says Danny Denzongpa, that brilliant actor from Sikkim best known for films like “Agneeepath” and “Dhund”.

“Kabuliwala”, a story based on Rabindranath Tagore’s short story has a great emotional heft. It left Danny completely moved. “I don’t do much work these days. Actually, I never have.

I get a lot of offers from influential corporate houses. But nothing that excites me. If I do smaller roles I’ll be typecast as ‘character’ actor. An appalling thought!

Our cinema has nothing substantial to offer actors above 60 unless it’s Amitabh Bachchan.

In recent times I’ve enjoyed doing Neeraj Pandey’s “Baby” and now, “Bioscopewalla”.”

When a young director from the Film & Television Institute of India came to Danny with the idea of re-doing Tagore's “Kabuliwala” the actor fell in love with the idea. “It is a modern take on the classic. But the basic story of a homesick Afghan dry-fruit seller’s ties with a little girl in Kolkata remains the same,” says Danny, adding that he has played the role with great restrain. “My interpretation of this Afghan character is much more subdued than what I did as an Afghan in “Khuda Gawah”. In fact I got the role of the “Kabuliwala” on the basis of “Khuda Gawah”,” says Danny, showering praise on his co-stars and director.

“The co-actors were so committed. I worked with an actress from the North East Gitanjali Thapa who is wonderful. I didn’t know she was a National award winner for her first film. As for the director, it is so refreshing to work with a new talent. Deb Medhekar is filled with innovative ideas. He has done his version of Tagore's story.”

Portions of the film were shot in Afghanistan and the topography was matched in Ladakh. Danny is excited about the role as it gave him a chance to display his range.

“My age span for the role is from 45 to 80. Lots of elaborate makeup was done to make me look older. I enjoyed the challenge of doing a character which is emotional and relevant.”

Danny is excited to see how far this film goes. “The producer Sunil Doshi plans to take it to film festivals. This film is a process of self-discovery for me.”

Here’s How Salman Khan Taught An Important Life Lesson To Aayush Sharma

Who says it is easy getting into Bollywood? Hear Aayush Sharma’s training schedule and you get an idea of how tough it can be. And when you are training under Salman Khan then it only gets tougher.

Aayush, who will be making his acting debut with the romantic drama “Loveratri”, recalls his training days where he learnt some of the most crucial lessons in action from none other than his mentor Salman Khan.

When Salman Khan pushed Aayush Sharma down the sand dunes of RajasthanAayush underwent rigorous training in action for four years under the watchful eyes of Salman who made sure that Aayush performs his own stunts and action and not take a body double or stuntman.

Recalling one such incident, Aayush recalls how Salman pushed him down the sand dunes in Rajasthan. He recalls, “We were in Jaisalmer where I was assisting Salman Bhai on “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”. A day before, he had asked the steady cam operator who was also a stuntman to teach me how to roll and do some action. So one night after the shoot, I trained in some action. On reaching the set the next day, in the middle of the shoot in the middle of the dessert, Bhai called me on top of the sand dunes. Aayush didn’t know what hit him. After he went up, he was asked by Salman to repeat the act again. Aayush was again picked and thrown down the sand dunes the second time. On falling the second time, Aayush realised that Salman wanted him to understand how to roll based on what he had learnt the previous day.

Says Aayush, “So when I went up the third time and was pushed down, I rolled and landed properly. Salman Bhai then told me that I have to always be ready and prepared at all times because as an actor, I will be doing my own stunts and so if I fall, I should know how to roll.

All this happened while the shoot was going on. Initially and the entire crew was watching me but Salman Bhai has a very different approach to teaching. He makes sure that you remember his lessons. So I remember what he teaches me. Each time I’m doing action, I always pay attention knowing this is something I have to really do in my career and not expect someone else to do it for me.”

Being an outsider to the industry, Aayush always felt that action is something that actors do not have to do themselves with the stuntmen doing most of the action and the actor just being required to land properly and stand straight. He says that while training with Salman Bhai who does his own action, he realised that he has to do it himself. Aayush who is having fun doing action stunts now can’t wait to do a film that has a lot of action in it.

Ajay Devgn’s “De De Pyaar De” Won’t Clash With “Namastey England” – Movie Postponed To 2019

Ajay Devgn is a busy man in the B-Town as he has been shooting simultaneously for two films i.e. “De De Pyaar De” and “Total Dhamaal”. While the shooting of “Total Dhamaal” has almost been completed, we hear that the actor is yet to shoot for sa ubstantial chunk of “De De Pyaar De” which also stars Rakul Preet Singh and Tabu in the lead.

“Around 25 to 30 Day shoot of “De De Pyaar De” is still pending, and the same will be shot in two separate schedules of 15 days each. Ajay Devgn gave priority to “Total Dhamaal” over “De De Pyaar De” because “Total Dhamaal” has a huge ensemble cast, and it was becoming difficult for director Indra Kumar to get dates of the entire ensemble cast for the same period.

Ajay decided to adjust his dairy to ensure that the shooting of “Total Dhamaal” sails safe.

Now that major chunk of “Total Dhamaal “ has been shot, he will move on to “De De Pyaar De”.

The team will most certainly miss out on the 19th October release,” “Since November and December is jam-packed with film releases, Ajay Devgn discussed about the possibility of getting the rom-com during the Valentine’s Day weekend. The actor feels that it is the ideal time for the film to release, as the audience would be keen to watch a light hearted rom-com on Valentines’ Day,” added the source.

Amitabh Bachchan Loses Over 4 Lakh Followers On Twitter, Shah Rukh Khan & Salman Khan Over 3 Lakh!

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s extended family on Twitter dropped by over 424,000, while Shah Rukh Khan’s followers depleted by over 362,141 and Salman Khan lost 340,884 followers, among other film celebrities as a result of the ‘sanitisation’ of the micro-blogging platform.

Twitter decided to sanitise the platform by removing inactive and locked accounts. So a lot of popular names from the film industry ended up with reduced followers.

SocialBlade.com that tracks the number of Twitter followers on a daily basis, had a tab on the count, and said Aamir Khan lost 316,900-plus followers, while Priyanka Chopra lost 354,830 followers and Deepika Padukone lost 288,298.

Big B loses over 4 lakh followers on Twitter, SRK, Salman over 3 lakhs.

The micro-blogging platform was yet to come up with an official statement on this.

Twitter earlier announced it will remove locked accounts — which are disabled owing to suspicious activity — from follower counts across profiles globally. The locked accounts are different from spam or bots and in most cases, these accounts were created by real people.

The move is likely to affect high-profile users the most.

Celebrities like Divya Dutta, Onir and Apurva Asrani reacted on losing followers overnight.

Divya, who currently has a following of 493,000 fans on the micro-blogging website, tweeted, “Aiyyo, what happened Twitter… Sudden drop of thousands of followers in one hour!”

Filmmaker Onir wrote, “I just realised I lost 1,000 overnight… Same pinch… Laugh out loud Twitter India. What’s the secret?”

Writer-editor Apurva Asrani tweeted, “I lost 500 followers overnight. Wondering if this is the clean up of bots that Twitter mentioned earlier.”

“Dhadak” Actress Janhvi Kapoor: Would Love To Play Meena Kumari Or Madhubala Janhvi Kapoor,making her Bollywood debut with Shashank Khaitan’s “Dhadak” said she would love to play veteran actresses Meena Kumari or Madhubala if the opportunity comes.

“I read about her (Meena Kumari) life once. Or Madhubala, as I think their stories are riveting.

“I am a huge fan of their work and have always tried to pick up from their work.

So if I get an opportunity (to play them), I would be very happy,” Janhvi told reporters on the sidelines of her film promotion.

Janhvi’s co-star Ishaan Khatter, acting in his second film, kept his options open about doing a biopic in the future.

“I don’t think I can decide that myself. If the director sees a potential in me, I will be happy to do any part unless I feel I look completely different from the haracter in question.”

“Dhadak” is an official adaptation of Marathi blockbuster film “Sairat”. Asked if both budding actors felt pressurised by the challenge of matching up to “Sairat’s high, Janhvi said, “I watched “Sairat” before even shooting for this film and I loved it.

Ishaan, whose debut film was “Beyond The Clouds” by Majid Majidi, added that they were always ready to accept the challenge of re-making “Sairat”.

“We were happy to take up the challenge. We knew there would be comparisons. But we never took it in a negative manner. It was more important to us that we tell the story in our own way. This is a story that deserves to be told to our country. That was the main focus,” the 22-year old added.

First choice for 'Womaniya', Kriti Sanon won't be able to do the project There was news earlier that Kriti Sanon will be a part of producers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane's sports drama, “Womaniya” along with Tapsee Pannu.

A leading daily, however, reported that the “Heropanti” actress will not be able to do the film anymore.

A source close to the film shared that "As per Kriti's schedule, she was supposed to start shooting for “Housefull 4” and “Panipat” after finishing “Arjun Patiala”, so with a choco-bloc year for the actress, she did not have the dates that the makers now wanted. Hence, they had to decide to move on from their first choice."

As per the tabloid, the makers are now looking at Bhumi Pednekar to fill in Kriti's shoes for the project as her availability seems to be matching with those that the project demands.

However, the makers are yet to make an official announcement for the same. Post which the makers will start preparing for the film to go on the floors.

Bhumi Pednekar was last seen in Netflix's “Lust Stories” and has “Sonchiriya” on her plate.

“Saaho”: Here’s All You Need To Know About Prabhas & Shraddha’s High Octane Action Sequence Shoot In Abu Dhabi

After dedicating five years to SS Rajamouli’s “Baahubali” and its sequence, Prabhas is leaving no stone unturned for his next with Sujeeth-directed “Saaho”.

After completing the first schedule in Hyderabad and Mumbai, Prabhas is currently in Abu Dhabi for a 50-day long schedule and will be joined by his leading lady Shraddha Kapoor.

The duo will also be joined by another cast member, Chunky Panday during the schedule.

Prabhas and Shraddha are to shoot for an epic action sequence of “Saaho” in Abu Dhabi.

The international schedule will see Prabhas shoot for high-octane action, including a major chase sequence involving helicopters, trucks, cars, and bikes. He has been prepping for these portions for a while now and has modified his workout regime to get into perfect shape for his part.

Anil Kapoor who will be seen playing a father to Pihu Sand who battles the social evil of body shaming in the upcoming next Fanney Khan opened up about the real-life agony of watching his daughter Sonam and nephew Arjun who overcame the hurdle of body image issues.

Anil Kapoor was mighty impressed by the young girl's confidence and histrionics during their first workshop at his residence. `Having seen the original Belgium film, Everybody's Famous!, I knew this was a tricky bit of casting but after meeting the bindaas Pihu I knew instantly that she was our Lata.

When I see talent, everything else pales into insignificance, including someone's physicality,` says the actor.

The film which revolves around the dream of Lata played by Pihu and the struggle of father Anil Kapoor to fulfill the same also touches on weight issues and culture of body shaming. The concerns are, however, not new to the actor as his actressdaughter Sonam Kapoor weighed 86 kgs in her teenage.

Attributing it to the pangs of being parted from her parents when she went to Singapore to study, Anil Kapoor shared, "Those three-four years were traumatic for her and when she returned home, I was shocked. The way she walked, the agony of climbing stairs, the misery on her face, broke my heart."

Knowing the industry, Anil Kapoor was well aware of the scrutiny and criticism his kids were subjected to, however, the actor always told them that they are beautiful in their own unique way and nothing should change that. "To be honest, I could not have imagined Sonam's deep concerns with her appearance, because to me she has always been flawless," he said, admitting the full extent of what his daughter had gone through since the age of 13 only hit him recently when he read an interview of hers in which she confessed to spending hours in front of the mirror scrutinising her appearance and coming up short.

The actor revealed that Sonam had no plans of becoming an actress while she assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "She was still on the heavier side and seemingly unconcerned during the shooting of Black but perhaps Sanjay saw the beautiful girl beneath that ungainly body and offered to launch her in Saawariya".

The actress, however, went on a strict diet and fitness routine for a whole year and lost 35 kg, but the insecurity over her looks remained. She continued to experiment with every diet, from Atkins to South Beach, and every fitness routine, from spinning to power yoga, a single uncomplimentary remark making her go off food.

Stardom didn't make it any easier. The slightest blemish would be highlighted in photographs and through articles which mercilessly sliced through her wavering self-esteem.

Talking about the issue, "Body-shaming is a curse and really hurts our kids," pointed out Anil, informing that according to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) at least 30 million of all ages and genders in the US suffer from eating disorders, resulting in at least one death every 62 seconds.

Opening up about his daughter Anil Kapoor shared, "Sonam has always been perfect and flawless in my eyes and I couldn't be happier that she is healthy and content with herself today. When it comes to beauty, we really need to shift the focus from physicality to personal140 | Aug 18

ity. Women who are smart, intelligent, empathetic, determined and accomplished are beautiful. And that is the kind of beautiful Sonam is."

Explaining the importance of friends, Anil Kapoor shared that fortunately Sonam had a friend in Namrata Soni and her sister Rhea who boosted her self-esteem and made her comfortable in her skin. Anil describes Rhea as a firebrand and asserts that he has never met anyone

more confident and self-assured. "She knows exactly who she is and is always true to herself. I have never seen her falter. She is the best kind of beautiful and she knows that", said Anil.

He also never had to tell Harsh what to do or how to do it as his son has always followed his heart and instincts. `Harsh is an old soul. He is my youngest son but in some ways, he's the wisest,` he stares.

Like Sonam, Arjun too had battled the body issues before making his Bollywood debut, Talking about his nephew, Anil Kapoor said, "The credit for that goes to Salman (Khan). When his father (brother Boney) showed me his new pictures, I was pleasantly surprised and so proud".

He adds that it is important not to push kids into anything, recalling how Sonam had quietly sought out his trainer Sherveer.

"The voice has to come from within," he says wisely, narrating how Sherveer helped him look good for a suhaag raat scene in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai with years younger Kajol after shooting through the night for Pukar.

Air-brushing and photo-shopping are alien concepts that Anil has managed to evade so far by staying healthy and disciplined. Narrating a recent incident on the sets of Fanney Khan, Anil Kapoor shared, "When we were shooting 'Badan Pe Sitare Lapate Hue' recently, a special effects team was kept ready to clean up the frames but eventually that wasn't necessary and we saved a lot of money".

The actor also pointed out that last year, France implemented a new law whereby it has become mandatory to label media images that are digitally altered for commercial purposes to make models look thinner as a 'retouched photo'. `As we walk into the future the time has come to redefine the popular concept of beauty and put an end to body-shaming. A one of its kind musical comedy, Fanney Khan revolves around the bond between the father and daughter with a pinch of comedy and drama.

It is after 17 years Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are coming together for a film.

Scientists say lack of sleep, stress, poor diet and exercise all go into making a bad thing worse – but let’s face it, due to the levels of pigment in our skin, many of us brown bella’s are blessed with under-eye circles.

Due to the shade of our skin and how thin the skin is under our eyes – the blood flowing there often looks blue from the outside and gives us a look of saggy and dark circles.

So here are 3 tips on how to deal with pesky gifts we can’t return: 1. Begin a skincare regimen that works for you – an under eye cream is essential! Try our new favourite, Sleeping Beauty, by Boho Bazar which contains pure shea butter and rosehip oil.

Alternatively many large brands like Clinique make great eye-gels and creams. Pick one that you like and do it every day. This helps freeze time and keeps your under eyes hydrated at all times.

3. Know Your Shade! It is estimated that as much as 80% wear the wrong shade of foundation. Our skin goes through 2-3 different shades each year depending on the season so it’s no wonder that so many women get it wrong! First – make sure to always swatch your shade not on your wrist but on your palm – this is a much better indication of the base-shade of your face. Each face has depth and dimension so starting with your base-shade, you’ll need one shade darker and one shade lighter. Desi women generally have warm complexions so go for an orange tone foundation. The lightest tone then sits under your eyes (on top of your corrector) while the darker one goes on the shadows like the bridge of your nose and your jaw line. Your concealer shade should be put in a downward right-angle shape to give you an instantaneous eye lift. Use a beauty blender to make sure there aren’t any harsh lines and top with a loose setting powder, and there you have it!

Use these tips to understand what works best for your eyes and develop a routine that will make heads turn. They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so create a window frame that is worthy of the goddess within you.

No, Saif Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan Are NOT Working in a Film Together

Writers in search of enticing copies often come up with brainwaves that have no roots in facts. The latest such idle idol-fantasy is the report that a filmmaker named Nitin Kakkad is planning to bring Saif and his daughter Sara Ali Khan together.

A source close to Saif’s family pooh-poohs the very idea. “Is Saif nuts to work with his daughter when she’s just starting out? The comparisons would just kill Sara’s career. It would be a very long time before Saif agrees to share frames with his daughter. Anil Kapoor has agreed to come together with his daughter Sonam in “Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga” after she has completed a decade in the movies. Perhaps Saif too will work with Sara after a decade, and that too if someone comes up with a worthy script.”

It’s never a good idea for established actors to share screen space with their progenies. Not too many people know this...Sanjay Leela Bhansali had offered “Khamoshi: The Musical” to mother-daughter Dimple Kapadia and Twinkle. Dimple suggested that Bhansali sign Twinkle and find another actress to play the mother.”

xclusive! Danny Denzongpa on being the ultimate Bollywood baddie

He says he trails the weather. “Wherever the climate is pleasant I head there,” says Danny who plans spending the summer in hometown Sikkim. Though he’s gone through almost 40 scripts after the hit Robot, he’s waiting for something drastically different to come his way.

Like the offbeat film Frozen (2007), which travelled to 34 festivals and won 18 awards. “Otherwise, I enjoy exercise, singing, painting, sculpting,” he says pointing to a carving of Moses in his home, D’zongrilla. He also has a prospering business of breweries in Sikkim, Orissa and Guwahati. “Acting is about creating illusions. I’m cheating people that way. And then with breweries I am intoxicating them further. I’m a failure as a Buddhist,” self-mocks the 60-plus actor.

Recently, Sanjay Dutt, who reprised Danny’s iconic role of Kancha Cheena in the Agneepath remake, invited the veteran to see the film. “But I saw it in a theatre. The audience gave a fantastic reaction to him. Sanju’s so gruesome in the film but they loved it,” he says graciously. And while he’s had a great innings in the movies, had it not been for his mother’s tears, Danny was all set to join the Indian Army. The Best Cadet award winner had even participated in the Republic Day parade. “But during the Chinese aggression in the mid ’60s, dead bodies of soldiers from our village started coming home. My mother was distraught and she insisted I drop my plans of joining the army,” he laments. “Or else, I’d have been a fan158 | Aug 18

tastic officer. I find a lack of discipline in the industry.”

WHY HE PLAYED VILLAIN Danny applied for an acting course at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune instead. “I could sing and play the flute so I thought I’d learn music. But later I realised that music was part of the acting course!” With his unconventional looks, work didn’t come easy.

“In the ’70s, big banners like Gemini and AVM (South) made family dramas. I didn’t fit in. I was told that I neither looked like a father nor a brother – the only part I could get was that of a servant or an outsider,” he smiles. Meanwhile, parallel cinema was gaining momentum.

Danny first featured in B R Ishara’s Zaroorat (1971). Next came Mere Apne (1971), Gulzar’s remake of Tapan Sinha’s Bengali film Apanjan, in which he played a small role of a puppeteer in the film. “I went to meet a puppeteer in Santa Cruz to prepare for the role. Soon the neighbouring kids surrounded me. They hadn’t seen a chinky-eyed guy in the area before,” recalls Danny. Another reason he accepted this l role was because the film featured his favourite actress Meena Kumari. “She’d tell me, ‘Tu toh mera asli bachcha hai (you’re my real son), your nose is like mine’.” Soon hits like Dhund , Chor Machaye Shor, Kalicharan, Kala Sona, Fakira and Laila Majnu followed. “The industry had no choice but to accept me. I wasn’t interested in playing the lead because the hero had to dance – which was like PT exercise!” says Danny who then became the industry’s top baddie.

WHY HE DIDN’T PLAY GABBAR Danny raised eyebrows for declining the role of the iconic Gabbar Singh (Sholay, 1975), which was then played by the late Amjad Khan. In fact, it was even announced in trade reports that he was slated to play the villain in Ramesh Sippy’s multi-starrer. “I had signed Feroz bhai’s (Khan) Dharmatma and was about to leave for Afghanistan. Rameshji wanted those very dates. But Feroz bhai had signed me first, paid me first and asked for the dates 159 | Aug 18

first. I was committed to him and couldn’t back out, though I very much wanted to play Gabbar.” Even a meeting between the two directors could not resolve the dilemma. But Danny has no regrets. “Not only was a wonderful actor like Amjad Khan born but it also benefitted me. The hero was paid around Rs 12 lakh as remuneration while Amjad started charging Rs 11 lakh. I was next in the line, so I too availed of it. Overall the status of the character artiste rose.”

WHY BAD IS GOOD And with his status also rose his fan following. “Girls get attracted to bad guys. From marriage proposals to having girls pay vigil at his gate, to women claiming to be his wife, he has seen it all. “A girl from Nagaland kept writing to me. At first I discouraged her by not replying.

But later she started threatening that she’d commit suicide. I then wrote a letter to her explaining that she was just infatuated with my image. I also wrote that I had a girlfriend and would be soon getting married. I reasoned that if she were a true fan, she’d also get married.

After two months she wrote to me that she was getting married. She even phoned me when she delivered a baby.” The rugged actor also had male fans writing letters in blood to him.

“They’d write ‘you are my guru’. I’d reply, “I am no guru, I am a ‘fraud’. Don’t go by what you see on screen,” he laughs.

WHY HE SAID NO TO BACHCHAN While Danny’s friendship with the Bachchans is a longstanding one, the actor categorically refused to share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan for 18 years. “I kept holding myself back from working with Amitji. I thought here’s this huge actor, who gets the best roles. No one would notice me if I was in the same frame with him. If the film were a hit, all credit would go to him. But if it flopped then the ‘new’ guy would be blamed. I kept refusing even Manji (the late director Manmohan Desai) who offered me four films with Amitji including Mard and Coolie.” He continues, “Once I was at Film City where Manji was also shooting. his knees and teased me in front of everyone, ‘Sir, please do a film for me’. I replied, ‘Sochenge!’ I’d tell Manji you’re dragging the industry back by 20 years (hinting at Desai’s fantastical cinema). You give one super-hit and 10 other guys follow you’. Manji would give me the choicest gaalis. But main seedha aadmi hoon, I speak the truth no matter how bitter!”

WHY HE SAID YES TO BACHCHAN But he was destined to work with Bachchan. “When Mukul Anand (the late director) narrated the role of Kancha Cheena opposite Amitji in Agneepath (1991) to me, I knew it wouldn’t go unnoticed. We were shooting the first schedule in Mauritius. It was 8.30 am; we were ready with our make-up but hadn’t yet got the dialogue sheet. I screamed at the assistant. I was nervous. Five minutes later Amitji walked in. He had heard me shout and had come to reassure me. He said, ‘I’ve just received the sheet and we can rehearse together’. After that it was absolutely comfortable,” recalls Danny who then went on to do Hum and Khuda Gawah with Bachchan in the early ‘90s.

WHY HE LOVES THE BIG B Danny goes on to give rare insights about the legend. “Amitji is a fantastic son. No matter where he’d be shooting – US or Mauritius, he’d fly down to see his ailing parents (the late Dr Harivanshrai and Teji Bachchan). He’d even stay in the hospital looking after them. He’s medically aware and would keep tabs on the treatment given.” Another quality that he admires about Bachchan is his patience. “We were shooting for Khuda Gawah on the outskirts of Nepal when hundreds of people gheraoed our car. The car was trembling. I was agitated.

Amitji, who was in full get up with pagdi and beard and despite there being no AC in the car, kept his cool. He held my hand and said, ‘Sit quietly, accept the heat. If you go out you’ll spoil matters’,” he laughs at the memory. “I have seen Amitji hit the lowest graph during the ABCL disaster and his career downslide. Even then he never lost his cool. He rose from the ashes like a Phoenix and paid back every penny he owed.”

WHY HE’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER PARVEEN Mention his ex-girlfriend, the late Parveen Babi and he describes her as ‘a nice human being, very beautiful’. “We were two young kids and we lived together for four years. That was big news those days. We had a wonderful time, but later we grew apart and parted on a good note. We remained friends.” Parveen later dated Kabir Bedi and then Mahesh Bhatt and lived in the same colony, Kalumal Estate, as Danny. The actor shares, “Parveen would keep inviting me for dinner. I had a new girlfriend (actor Kim) those days. She was wary of her. Also, if your ex keeps walks into the house anytime like a mother hen, it would be difficult for any girl to accept. I would pick up Kim from the sets after pack up and reach home only to find Parveen in my bedroom watching a movie on the VCR. I asked Parveen not to do it. But she’d say, ‘We don’t have anything between us, we are friends’. I guess she did it purposely,” he laughs adding he then had to ask Mahesh, also his friend, to make Parveen see 162 | Aug 18

He remembers the first time he noticed something abnormal about her. ‘I had been for dinner at her place. There were silver conches on the table. When I began blowing one, she got frightened. That’s when Mahesh said, ‘She gets easily frightened these days and is turning into a recluse’. A few days later Mahesh confided again. “Parveen’s unwell. She cares for you and you must come over and give her support.” The doctors would then be first called to Danny’s house. After the discussion, one doctor would go up to meet her. One day Mahesh called Danny saying Parveen was hysterical. “We sent for guru UG Krishnamuthi immediately. He held her hand and said, ‘Parveen you’re perfectly alright, there’s nothing wrong with you’. And she was fine. She believed in him. Whenever Parveen needed me, I was always there.”

Danny goes on to reveal why Parveen cut off ties with him. “One day she happened to read an interview where Amitji had mentioned that I was a good friend of his. That was it. When I went to meet her the next time, she looked at me through the keyhole and refused to let me in calling me ‘his agent’ (Parveen was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and had developed irrational fears vis-à-vis several celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan). She was frightened of me too.” Years later, Danny did attend her funeral. “For someone who had so many filmmakers queuing up for her once, there were none that day. Just a handful of us, including Kabir, Mahesh, Johnny Bakshi, Ranjeet and producer Harish Shah (Kala Sona).”

WHY HIS WIFE IS THE BEST Danny, who was reportedly linked-up with Kimi Katkar, Parveen and later Kim, eventually married Gawa, a Sikkimese princess. “Because she was the best,” he smiles. “It was arranged-love. I had met her when she was in the final year of school. When my mother was very ill, she insisted I marry her. I started dating her and we eventually got married.” The once hotshot bachelor roots for marriage, “It’s a bond that ties you or else we actors are like banjaras, we can go out of control. With so many girls chasing you, dimag kharaab ho jaata hai. Marriage hooks you for good. It’s been 22 years.” His children, son Rinzing and daughter Pema, both around 20, are studying in the UK. “Rinzing is doing business and Pema animation. Rinzing seems interested in films but education is the priority now.” Is he a better husband or father? “I’m neither a good husband nor a good father. I’m quite a detached person. Buddha’s teachings stress on impermanence and that attachment only brings pain. Yes, I am a provider but I don’t impose myself on my wife and children,” says Danny. I leave enlightened.

ON BEST FRIEND JAYA BACHCHAN: Jaya was my classmate at the FTII. On orientation day, newcomers have to introduce themselves to the seniors. When I said my name Tshering Phintso Denzongpa, they couldn’t get it and kept saying, ‘Come again, come again!’ It became a joke. My classmates would call out ‘Shhssh shhhssh…’ as though I were a puppy! Jaya suggested I keep it simple and named me Danny. As a person, she’s honest and calls a spade a spade. So, in many ways she’s like me. Even when she was a newcomer, she’d rush to defend a friend. Once at a party, a filmmaker made fun of Romesh Sharma. Jaya took on the filmmaker. She may be small in height but she’s a Bengali tigress.

Disha Patani has sprained her knee while rehearsing for Bharat After the roaring success of 'Baaghi 2, Disha Patani is all set to start to shoot for Salman Khan film 'Bharat. The actress plays a Trapeze artist and has been practicing gymnastics and stunts as a prep for her role for quite some time. After going through some rigorous training sessions nonstop, the actress has sprained her legs while rehearsing some stunts.

Sources share, "Disha has been dedicatedly undergoing rigorous preparations for Bharat. She has been taking training in gymnastics to play her part of a Trapeze artist onscreen. Disha has injured both her knees owing to the physical training. She has been advised to avoid too much physical activity and is undergoing physiotherapy currently to recover."

Known as one of the fittest actresses in B town, the actress has been treating her fans with glimpses of her training sessions regularly.

Kriti Sanon who's currently shooting for Housefull 4 in London now has lots on her plate. With the current line-up of films she has, Kriti Sanon is one of the busiest actresses in town.

After her last hit Bareilly Ki Barfi, the actor has four big-budget projects in her kitty, which are a mix of commercial entertainers and content-driven cinema. While her immediate next, Arjun Patiala opposite Diljit Dosanjh, is slated to release this year, Kriti has three more films that will release next year. Kriti will be seen playing a Marathi warrior in Ashutosh Gowariker's Panipat, which will also be her first historical period drama.

Kriti, without revealing much about her role, told a source here: "I am very excited, although more of my scenes are going to be with Arjun Kapoor, but to share the same workspace with Sanjay sir is going to be great." The actor has already had a few rounds of meetings with producers and his Bollywood debut is almost finalised. "It is known news that recently, Mahesh Babu flew to abroad along with his wife Namrata and Kids Sitara and Gautham. While returning he paid a visit to Mumbai and met few filmmakers who are interested to rope him into their films. If everything will go as planned, Mahesh Babu will make his Bollywood debut,".

The only previous association that the actor had with Bollywood was when his film Pokiri was remade in Bollywood as "Wanted" in 2009 in which Salman Khan played the lead role. Pokiri was also remade in Tamil by Deva in 2007. "It has also been revealed that AR Murugadoos is planning to remake his bilingual directorial venture Spyder in Hindi. In its original version, Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh played the lead role whereas SJ Suryah essayed antagonist. So Mahesh Babu may make a Bollywood debut with the Hindi remake of his Sypder," Tollywood Net added in the report.

RGV's Counter To Sanju Movie

Controversies favouirte son Ram Gopal Varma is back in news. Whilst the debate between the fans and anti-fans of Sanju continues and Sanju continues to set the Box Office on fire, RGV stepped in to intensify the issue.

Now, RGV is said to be working on a counter film to Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju. Touted to be another biopic of Sanjay Dutt, RGV's film has been tentatively titled as 'Sanju : The Real Story' or 'The Real Story of Sanju'.

It is learnt that as part of his research for the film on Sanjay Dutt, RGV has been meeting several ex associates of the actor and the police officers who had investigated him in the 1983 blasts case and illegal possession of weapon.

Varma's movie is likely to focus only on Sanjay's arrest in connection with the 1983 blasts and for possessing an AK-56 rifle. Meanwhile, RGV is yet to make an official announcement on the film.
