NITHYA

1

Nithya Menen is a major star in southern films, but the actress said that she is happy to make her Bollywood debut in the multi-starrer Mission Mangal that features four other actresses along with Akshay Kumar. Nithya added that she never wanted to debut in a conventional rom-com, unlike the norm. "My choice of films from the beginning was unconventional, maybe because I never wanted to become an actor. It was not my biggest dream. I did a film because I loved the story. So when I decided to debut in Bollywood, I was not really looking for a conventional rom-com," Nithya said, during a media interaction. She added, "For me, a film has to bigger than an actor. That is the only way we can make good films. A film becomes mediocre when the actor becomes bigger than the story. It creates an imbalance. For me, the story matters."

TABU & SAIF

ARJUN

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who was last seen on screen in the movie India's Most Wanted, said that the cross-border cop chase has become a trending topic in Bollywood because tales defining the heroes of India make for fascinating storytelling. Apart from India's Most Wanted, movies like Raazi, Uri, and Baby in the past have shown cross-border police chase on the silver screen. "There were so many stories that we may have felt apprehensive about putting out there. Importantly, it is about the relevance (of the story). If the audience wants to watch relevant stuff, they have given us indicators with Raazi, Uri and other films over the last few years," says Arjun. He added that the audience is curious about the country. "They want to know how India became India. They want to watch stories that define the heroes of India. It makes for fascinating storytelling. We have looked at western civilization for hints and links and what to do next. For once, our audience is providing clues about what we should focus on. Arjun is now gearing up for the release of his next film titled Panipat, which also stars Kriti Sanon.

After more than two decades, Tabu and Saif Ali Khan will be working together in the film Jawaani Jaaneman. The two had earlier acted in films like Hum Saath Saath Hain and Biwi No. 1 before this. In an interview, Tabu opened up about working with Saif in R Balki's film. She said, "This is a different film and it's amazing to work with Saif after so many years. We did Biwi No. 1, but we didn't have any scenes together. Saif has a great sense of humor and I was looking forward to doing this kind of film with him," she said. Speaking about her role, she said, "It's a nice and open-spirited space for me, Golmaal Again, De De Pyaar De and now Jawani Jaaneman are all energetic characters and in this space, you get to do something fun with the clothes and create a look. It's different from the serious channels I've been doing." The film also stars Pooja Bedi's daughter Alaia F. There has been much buzz that Tabu will play Alaia's mother. Tabu said, "More than being anybody's mother or sister, it is a character. I like the way my track has been conceptualized, there's a correct balance of humor, but I don't want to say more. We want it to come as a surprise." Earlier, Saif had expressed his happiness at Tabu being cast in the film. He told, "Tabu is a brilliant actor. This part is funny on paper, and I'm pleased that she has agreed to play it as now it will be hysterical."

PRABHAS' FITNESS REVEALED The Secret

Known for his tall and buffed up physique as Baahubali, Prabhas has had to work equally hard for his film 'Saaho', which required him to look lean and agile. It's no mean task to achieve that, but Prabhas managed to do the unthinkable. In fact, his trainer Laxman Reddy is all praise for his celebrity client. In an interview with a tabloid, he said that Prabhas never missed his training session for the film. The fitness trainer, who's worked with the actor for seven years, goes on to reveal that Prabhas treats his fitness training sessions as stressbuster and genuinely enjoys it. He says that the actor is the

While we all absolutely loved Madhuri’s ‘Didi Tera Dewar Deewana’ costume, there is something you are not aware of about the look and it is sure going to blow your mind off! Did you know that Madhuri’s purple saree cost a whopping of Rs 1.5 million? Yes, you read it right! According to reports, the actress’ look for the song in the film was designed by Anna Singh and it happens to be one of the most expensive costumes in the film. No doubt the backless blouse became a popular fashion trend in those days.

athletics and is well-informed about fitness. Prabhas, unlike other actors in showbiz, ensures that his training is not just for the camera and that it enhances his lifestyle as well. He's also said to be among the few actors who focus on training his upper body as well as lower body. Most actors avoid lower body training as it is hard, but Prabhas enjoys the challenges. Since the actor had to lose 10 kilos for 'Saaho', his regime includes twohour training sessions, which were split into cardiovascular activity and medium intensity resistance training. His meals were restricted to four portions a day. Prabhas is a foodie, but when it comes to working out for a film, he is dedicated and kept to his diet.

hraddha Kapoor can be seen throwing kicks and punches and handling guns like it’s second nature to her. While the Bollywood actress had performed a few action scenes in 'Baaghi', she will be seen doing a lot more of that in her role as crime branch officer Amritha Nair in the Prabhas-starrer Hindi-Telugu bilingual. For instance, she had to learn to fire a gun and make it seem like she was used to the drill. Shraddha says, “I had to work on holding the gun, which was very heavy. When you hold a gun, the pressure is on your wrist. If you see my wrists, you won’t think they are strong enough to hold a gun, and they weren’t. The first few times that I had to hold it, I faced a lot of discomfort and pain. I started doing exercises to strengthen my wrists, and I used to tape them while holding a gun for a scene to keep my hand steady. After a few days of training, I started carrying the gun with me on the set at all times. I became comfortable with it, and it almost seemed like it’s an extension of my hand.”

PARINEETI

DEEPIKA

1

Bollywood's most adored couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh worked together on the big screen in movies like 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Padmaavat' and 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela RamLeela'. Post their wedding, the couple will be working together for Kabir Khan's '83. The actress will be playing Romi Dev, the wife of Kapil Dev. The star recently opened up about her character Romi Dev in '83. She reportedly said that she enjoys playing characters that take a lot out of her emotionally. In the film, there are extreme highs and lows that her character goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup. She further added and said that there will be some lighter moments as well.

Well, now we can't wait to see Deepika and Ranveer's onscreen magic as Kapil and Romi.

Opening up about suffering from depression in 2015, Parineeti Chopra said, "Two of my films...didn't work. That was my first setback. Suddenly I didn't have money." "Then I went through a big heartbreak in my life...I stopped eating, sleeping well," she added. "I'd cry...10 times a day...I had chest pain that wouldn't go out of my body," said Parineeti.

SIDHARTH “Jabariya Jodi Back in 2014, when Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra were almost new in Bollywood, they collaborated for comedy-drama Hasee Toh Phasee. The film turned out to be a sleeper hit, and Sidharth and Parineeti proved that they can carry a film on their shoulders. And now five years later, Sidharth and Parineeti are reuniting for Prashant Singh's Jabariya Jodi.

The 34year-old actor said that knowing Parineeti from earlier helped him work with her on Jabariya Jodi. "You can improvise with her without having to ask should I hold you like this or should I say this line. There's a sense of freedom. Pari is a fabulous actor. Audiences will appreciate her hard work," added the actor.

Talking about working with Parineeti again, Sidharth said, "Parineeti and I bond well off the camera too. That's a major advantage. When you work with someone again after having such a good time in your first film Hasee Toh Phasee, you don't have to waste time breaking ice. You know that person. There's a comfort zone."

Jabariya Jodi is a hilarious take on groom kidnapping that is very much prevalent in some parts of India. In the film, Sidharth plays Abhay Singh who is an expert in pakadwa vivaah (groom kidnapping). Talking about his preparation for the role, Sidharth said, "I read a lot of Hindi newspapers. I also read on pakadwa vivaah. There are real videos of pakadwa vivaah on the web. The reason for this occurrence is the burden of dowry, which prevents girls from getting married easily. I didn't want to tan myself for the character. It's a stupid stereotype that a small-town boy has a scorched complexion. The character is a Shiv bhakt, he smokes weed like Shivji had ganja. He also wears a rudraksha. We added desi elements like earrings. I practiced the Patnaiya Hindi dialect with a coach."

Mystique of the Peacock

Last summer of 2018, I had an unexpected glimpse of two beautiful peacocks for the first time in my local landscape. Yes, right here in DFW, outside my home, these beautiful birds had escaped from their private, high-wall enclosed ranch and were prancing across my backroads. While I’m accustomed to seeing blue and red robins, magpies, roadrunners and many other colorful birds which frequently visit our community, the peacock sighting was a beautiful surprise. As I stepped out of my car to take a quick picture, they flew back into their ranch in a jiffy. I loved my brief encounter and hoped I would see them again. A bird lover at heart, I admire the beauty, serenity, perspective, vision and freedom of flight of birds. It’s often said that each bird has its own legend and lore that carry a message for humanity. In this outpouring, I seek to unravel the mystique of a peacock, India’s beloved and magnificent national bird. Mythology states that the sweet melody of Lord Krishna’s music as he played the flute, enchanted the peacocks. They danced majestically, gracefully spreading their fan of flamboyant feathers in expression of their love. They even gifted Lord Krishna their feathers which he affectionately decorated his crown with. Also known to be the vehicle of Goddess Saraswathi, the peacock is a divine navigator, guiding and directing the Goddess with its vision and understanding. Moving forward in time, history reveals that Alexander the Great was captivated by the beauty of the Indian peacocks. He first spotted them on the banks of a river when he was out hunting in the forests. He forbade the harming or killing of peacocks in appreciation of their elegance and grace. Some say, he couldn’t resist shipping a few peacocks overseas to his own country, where they were considered prized possessions. Peacock feathers symbolize the element of Air and are considered sacred. Some communities use

MADHURI’S MUSINGS

peacock feathers to ward off negative energies. Peacock feathers have not only a sacred geometry and symmetry, but also an alluring color scheme. The shimmering blue-green plumage represent richness and royalty and the eye images embedded in the feathers, symbolize the divine wisdom of the third-eye which spiritual seekers strive to activate. Peacocks, as a result of their inherent immunity to snake’s poison, symbolize strength and longevity. Peacocks are intuitive birds who are known to dance in happy anticipation of a rain shower from the heavens and even cry in sorrow, before an impending death. Interestingly, Greeks and Romans are also known to have celebrated the majestic beauty of the peacocks which graced the estates of royal families. The eyes of the peacock feathers were considered celestial, representing the “stars of heaven”. In Chinese mythology, peacocks are a manifestation of the ancient bird Phoenix and represent rebirth, revival from the ashes of the past and resurrection as a stronger bird of the future. Also associated with Goddess Quan Yin , the peacock is known to be the bird with a hundred eyes(in its feathers), representing vision, wisdom, and divinity. As elaborated, the peacock has been invoked as a sacred bird from time immemorial and across different cultures. The peacock was adopted as India’s national bird in 1963 for its beauty, mythological roots, positive symbolism, uniqueness and its distribution across different parts of India. Today the peacock is a beautiful symbol of India’s identity the world over and efforts are in place to protect and preserve the species. The colorful imagery of peacocks is depicted in sarees, paintings and creative sculptures. This summer, around one year since my first encounter, yet again, I was blessed with a peacock sighting, but this time on my birthday! It was a delightful surprise from the universe to see the peacock after one year, unexpectedly cross my path, prancing around the backroad I frequently take. I stopped my car and said a silent prayer in gratitude for the gift of that moment on my birthday, a priceless present which inspired me to pen my thoughts. The peacock became my beloved muse for my September musings!

In an interview with an entertainment portal, Fatima, whose last film Thugs of Hindostan was a massive flop at the box office, shared her excitement about her upcoming film. "I am very excited to kick-start the shoot for Bhoot Police, it will be my first horror-comedy so there will be a lot of learning that will happen on the job. I like this genre personally, and there is so much yet to be explored in this space in terms of filming horror cinema," she said. Fatima, who will be seen in this genre for the first time, added, "I really enjoy watching horror and horror-comedy films but not alone. I get too scared to watch it alone. It is really fun to watch it with friends and family. The entire experience of watching a horror film in a theatre, with great sound and other effects is something else altogether.” In an earlier interview, Fatima, who rose to fame with the 2016 film Dangal, opened up on signing Pawan Kripalani's directorial venture Bhoot Police. "I really liked the director and I enjoyed watching his film Phobia. I don't do a film according to the genre that it is. I just go by my instinct with the script. Personally jo mujhe excite karta hai, main wohi karti hoon," she had said.

Be it brilliantly essaying her on-screen characters or speaking up her mind during interviews, Vidya Balan never disappoints her fans. The actress always experiments with her roles and makes sure to serve her fans with varieties. The actress recently opened up about her initial days in the film industry and how despite her struggles she kept a brave face on. Talking about her journey, the 40yearold actress said, “Coming from a non- filmi family I had no idea how to go about becoming an actress, yet I wanted to be one. It worried my family, though they have always supported me. It must have come as a relief to them when my first TV show, La Bella, shut down after a few months. They must have thought, ‘Chalo, abhi to bhoot utar jayega,’” she reminisces. “It was three years of constant rejections from down South and there were days when I would go to sleep in tears. But next morning, I was up and smiling, hoping something good would happen, and Parineeta did,” the actress told in an interview. Talking about her similarities with her Mission Mangal character, Vidya further added, “But even when the challenges seem insurmountable, Tara (name of her character in the film) refuses to give up.”

“No Job is too Small”. There is dignity of labor in every job. Most times it’s the things you learn at small private companies takes you a long way in large corporations. It is also very important to treat people with the same level of respect, from the janitor to the CEO. As one of my previous bosses, John Bratkovics from Wall Street used to say “You can catch more flies with honey than with sugar” which essentially means “You can win people to your side more easily by gentle persuasion and by being nice to them than by hostile confrontation.”

ASH WADHWANI is currently a CTO (Strategic Accounts) at HCL Technologies. What do you do for work and what does your job entail? I am the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Strategic Accounts for HCL Technologies. Essentially my role entails strategizing, evangelizing and providing thought leadership for emerging technologies to my clients. I work across areas such as Cloud, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and Internet of Things (IoT). My previous career roles were at companies such as Accenture, Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. I have been in Executive Leadership roles in large Wall Street Bank in the areas of Investment Banking, Private Banking, Asset Management, Retail Bank and KPO Outsourcing. Most of my career has been on Wall Street, with some of them in the Big 5 consulting firms. How did you get here to this position? (i.e. Career Progression) Just like most professions, I started out in entry level roles with small firms, then worked my way into larger enterprises in leadership positions. It is important for the younger generation to understand that

What message would you want to give our community kids growing here? The first message you can give to your child, or your children, is that they have genius within them and help them believe in themselves. Help them understand the magnitude of their potential. Then you do your part as a parent to cultivate it and kindle it so that fire of genius grows every day. The second message you can give your children on a regular if not daily basis, because your messaging, your words, your example, that’s what’s installing their core beliefs. Their daily behaviours are simply going to be a function of the beliefs that you install within them. You want to really remember that those little eyes are watching everything you’re doing. They’re watching everything you’re saying and the best way to influence your children is to be the leader and the human being that you want your children to be. Third message to our children: It doesn’t matter about fitting in, it matters more about liking yourself. I know I’m talking about children here but you can find your own language that’s going to fit for the age of your child. How will Automation Change the world in the coming years? Rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Deep Learning) and RPA (Robotic Process Automation) are making inroads in the workplace, with machines carrying out physical and cognitive activities. What will this mean for employment? As a result of this many jobs will change dramatically. Some of the tasks we do today, we’ll be able to do in a much richer way because we have the benefit of automated support, much more insightful data analysis and real-time data. However other jobs will be lost to automation. Rate of change of technology is very very rapid and is being achieved by machines and not humans. One has to stay relevant and well-informed by constantly reskilling and retooling themselves to survive in a job. Other things that we might worry about? For certain, these technologies are going to displace human labor. They’re going to start doing things that people used to do. Autonomous cars (Tesla) and Bank Teller Automation at bank lobbies are examples of this. That’s a tremendous challenge. How do we make sure that we find new things for people to do. It is our duty as parents of this generation to make sure we continually develop and adopt all of these technologies and make sure that people are working so that the next generation will have better lives than we do.
