VICE MAYOR DENISE D. GRANT

Dear Lauderhill Community,

Iam honored to serve as your Vice Mayor and to take an active role in setting the vision for our residents, businesses, and dedicated municipal leaders and employees. Lauderhill, our All-America City, is a wonderful community of which I am proud to be a dedicated resident.

As your Vice Mayor, I will continue to set the bar high and lead by example. The cornerstone of our City will be transparent government that inspires community involvement.

As I engage with our diverse residents at community events, in local businesses, on virtual forums, and during Commission meetings and workshops, I hear your aspirations for Lauderhill. We want smart, efficient economic development that will transform the local business community. We want a peaceful, unified community that is safe for all residents. We want to provide resources to assist in all aspects of combating the COVID-19 pandemic, as it has affected each and every member of our community.

The success of local businesses during this trying time is paramount to the continuing economic development of our City. To promote the success of our retail shops and eateries, I have partnered with the Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce to champion the Safe & Clean initiative for Lauderhill businesses. We are encouraging business owners to take the Safe and Clean Pledge at www.sunny.org/pledge, which includes a commitment to following CDC cleaning protocols, wearing masks, providing hand sanitizer, practicing social distancing, training staff on how to be safe and clean, and working toward contactless payment. Businesses that take the Safe and Clean Pledge are leading the way in reminding residents that it is safe, healthy and fun to support our local establishments by visiting in person.

Additionally, I have engaged – and will continue to engage – with a variety of resources and professionals to assist local businesses, churches and non-profit organizations in navigating the Paycheck

Protection Program (PPP). The federal loan program provides support monies to businesses to help them stay open and continue to employ their staff members. I have led the charge to assist local businesses in connecting with lending institutions, and we were able to successfully engage with over 200 organizations during the first round of the program. As the second installment of PPP loans become available, we will strive to assist even more groups in obtaining this funding. I recently hosted two informative webinars, both of which are available for viewing at www.facebook.com/cityoflauderhill, that provide a treasure trove of information to help you navigate the application process.

As your Vice Mayor, I am committed to the safety, comfort and wellbeing of our residents. My Unity in the Community initiative provides an opportunity for residents to engage with and get to know the Lauderhill Police Department and various City representatives. Each Unity in the Community walk focuses on 50-100 homes where residents of the area, police officers and City representatives go door to door to provide safety tips and hear about your neighborhood concerns. This way we’re able to communicate one-on-one with citizens of Lauderhill so we can make strides to address the issues you share with us and answer any questions that you have for us.

I am also a dedicated advocate for residents who are part of our vulnerable populations. This includes many of our seniors who are no longer able to go out on their own, as well as persons with high-risk health conditions which confine them to their homes. Throughout the pandemic, I partnered with various entities, including Joy’s Roti Delight and American Airlines, to ensure those who are in need receive regular food deliveries at their homes. This effort was in conjunction with drive-thru food distribution events offered for citizens in need who are still able to leave their homes.

Charting the course for Lauderhill while leveraging its existing strengths is an exciting endeavor. I want us to be fiscally smart and forward-thinking so that generations can continue to thrive in our City. I am confident and inspired to be a part of leading this great community out of the pandemic and into the era of health, unity and economic growth that is sure to follow.
