EDITOR Jessica Williams
Jessica is an author and freelance writer with a background in broadcast communications. She loves to play with words and would truly excel as an editor if she could just accept that putting two spaces after a period was no longer correct. She cannot and will not accept that. She lives in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in a jungle of houseplants with her family and small canine overlord.
MANAGER Kirstin Patzer
As the driving force behind Three Strands Wedding Design and the SW Wedding Expo here in southwest Saskatchewan, Kirstin knows more than a thing or two about weddings. As a wedding planner by day she spends her time sharing all that knowledge with couples as they navigate the world of vendors, venues and deposits so what better next step than creating a publication to bring that all together? Right now Kirstin is launching the third annual SW Wedding Expo while she takes time away from us here at Details to soak up some maternity leave with her newest sweetheart. This leaves me, Candace, unattended and excited to write this bio for her full of glowing praise that she won’t be able to change!
DESIGNER Candace Schwartz
Love, happiness, petals and lace... if you asked me to name the thing I love most about weddings, you would be in for quite the conversation because I couldn’t choose just one. This Saskatchewan based wedding magazine is our way of sharing the many beautiful, original, and outstanding options Saskatchewan has to offer local brides & grooms. So let’s make 2021 a year of collaboration and bring out the best in one another - both vendors and couples.
STAFF WRITER River
River hails from the prairies. Their house is decorated with the finest of bric-a-brac and antimacassers from travels across Canada with their pet flamingo, Roderigo. River's closet boasts an unnatural amount of neon which goes well with their appreciation of fine wine (the kind that comes in a box with a convenient valve). River is a wealth of knowledge and has graciously agreed to write our advice column, stating simply that everyone should have the wedding of their dreams.
Hello from all of us here at Details Wedding Magazine! This publication has been created out of a love for love in all shapes and sizes. We want to appeal to all genders and age groups across this beautiful province bringing advice and information to you, the reader. We want to hear from couples and vendors telling us what they want to see or what they have to share. We couldn’t do this without the support we’re seeing and we’re glad you’re joining us on this adventure - we can’t wait to hear from you!

FUR BABIES IN YOUR WEDDING JESSICA WILLIAMS
Sometimes couples decide to add a pet to their little family when they move in and get serious. Sometimes one or both partners already have a furry friend in their lives before the relationship even starts. Either way, ask any pet owner and they’ll tell you these critters are family. And weddings are all about family! There are loads of ways to incorporate your non-human family members into your big day. Depending on the variety of critter, the options may change. Dogs (and cats if they’re a little more obedient) can easily be involved in the processional and the ceremony. Maybe your four legged companion is a ringbearer, or maybe they will escort one of the partners down the aisle. This could work for dogs or cats or, for an outdoor ceremony, even horses! If your animal friend isn’t good with crowds, doesn’t like to follow commands, or isn’t allowed in the venue, it might be better to leave them at home. Having them involved in some “getting ready” photos is a beautiful way to include them in your day and memories. You could even put them in a sweet coordinated outfit if that’s your jam! Commemorating their importance in your lives together can be as subtle as having their likeness emblazoned on a pocket square, or embroidered into a section of veil. If you have a menagerie of important pets, you could name your guest tables after them at the reception and have their silhouette on the place markers. Adorable custom cake toppers are a fun way to showcase your entire family all together. Including your pets in your ceremony and reception can be as big or small as you’d like and can easily be made into a truly unique (and classy) representation. They’re family, after all.

BACHELORX TRENDS Jessica Williams
In Saskatchewan you can kick up your heels and party-on now that pandemic restrictions have lifted. But maybe you’re of the camp that would prefer to keep things low key. Your introvert engaged friends - those who find socializing draining and prefer life in smaller, more intimate groups - could be looking for a way to celebrate the last stretch of unmarried life with their closest friends without jet-setting to Mexico or lighting it up in Vegas. Not only will your bank accounts thank you, but you can easily take advantage of some of the fantastic things to do in the Land of the Living Skies. Let’s look at some low-key ideas for your Bachelorx* Party! First off, if it’s your party, please make sure that whomever is planning it knows that you want something small. If
you’re the one planning the party, check with your friend and see what they would prefer. There can be a tendency to “Go Big Or Go Home” with these gatherings, but if the preference is for something small, make that known. Your low-key party could start with traveling to one of the province’s unique locations or glamping sites. There’s the Alive Sky Lodge’s BINcredible Luxury Grain Bin in Rosetown (see our interview with Alive Sky Lodge on page 16), oTENTiks in Grasslands National Park, or you could book a yurt at Nesslin Lake near Big River. Any of these locations would provide a truly unique getaway for you and a few of your closest friends. Instead of heading to a big centre, you can find some quiet in nature and enjoy camping without having to set up your gear. Continued on pg. 10

A fantastic side effect of booking a place to stay far from your home base is the opportunity for a road trip! A good old fashioned road trip can harken back to the days when it was just you and your crew. Filling the vehicle with snacks, an ultimate playlist of your favourite tunes and the open road is a spectacular way to keep things small with your tightest friends. If travel isn’t on your list of ideal activities, there are loads of options for staying put. Booking a round at one of the province’s beautiful golf courses (Dakota Dune at Saskatoon, Elk Ridge at Waskesui Lake and Deer Valley Golf Club at Deer Valley are some of the top rated courses in the province) can be a great option for parties in the summer or early fall. Or maybe the best way to celebrate is to hole yourself and your friends up in a basement, plug in your favourite old-school game console and have a video game marathon. A Bachelorx Party is ultimately whatever you want it to be; whether it’s big or small, extravagant or low-key, it’s a celebration of your friendship with those who are closest to you and a way to highlight your history and continued importance in each other’s lives. *“bachelorx” is the non-binary term for bachelor/bachelorette. For more info on other inclusive alternatives to gendered terms, check out out article on page 24.

ENTERTAINING KIDS AT YOUR WEDDING CJ Jackson
There are three divided camps when it comes to the topic of having kids at a wedding. One group says they’re as much part of the family as the adults and they should be there every step of the way to celebrate with us throughout the day. Another group who thinks they should attend the ceremony but not the reception and dance, and yet another group that thinks they shouldn’t be a part of the day at all because they distract parents who then can’t relax and enjoy themselves. Whatever you decide, we support your decision - it’s your day after all! We gathered a few ideas from couples and guests to give you some ideas to keep the littles occupied, should you decide to include them. HIRE BABYSITTERS For a minimal fee, you can have a couple of local teenagers or a church/school fundraising group keep the children safe for a few hours in the evening while the parents relax and enjoy the celebration. As an added bonus, some groups also offer cleanup services at the end of the night as a part of their fundraising efforts!
CROWD PLEASING DANCE PARTY MUSIC The first half hour following your few formal dances can be dedicated to the dance songs that kids of all ages love. They will have plenty of energy to burn, and you can let them request songs or give the DJ a list of old well known dance favourites to choose from like the Macarena, Twist and Shout, Happy, and anything else they’re likely to know the words or dance moves to. PAPER TABLE CLOTHS AND ACTIVITY MATS There’s a reason most family restaurants have paper placemats or booklets for kids to colour on. It’s a tried and true way of keeping little ones busy and having fun. You can roll out plain craft paper or get a bit more creative by adding printed puzzles or scavenger hunt items and games for the older kids with colouring pictures for the younger ones. BUILD A FORT Wait! Just listen for a minute before you move on to the next one. Some old blankets and a few chairs, or a Continued on pg. 14

cloth teepee style canopy hung from wires above with pillows underneath can give kids endless ways to use their imaginations together. Add some twinkle lights inside and it might even be the nap zone once the dance is underway! CARNIVAL GAMES If you have a large reception space or a grassy area near the ceremony, enlist an older cousin or two and even a few grown-ups to take turns leading the kids through simple and easy-to-set-up carnival style games. Every parent volunteer hour I have spent with our school has taught me that kids love these simple games and we all know that fun is contagious! VIDEO GAME STATION OR MOVIE THEATRE These are similar, but both are great options if you have the space during your dance. If you have old video game consoles or a DVD player and a TV that can be moved,

set up a quiet area for kids off to the side or tucked away behind a stage. CARD MAKING STATION Have blank cards and markers at a separate station or right on the tables so each kid can make a special keepsake for you. Kids love to have their skills in demand and would jump at the chance to show off their artistic flare! PHOTO BOOTH Set a few packages of inexpensive photo props and a couple of disposable cameras aside and have parents or older kids take pictures of the littles hamming it up for the camera. There’s no one way to throw a wedding celebration, and whatever you do to create lasting memories for you and your guests will be perfect!

AN INTERVIEW WITH
Saskatchewan may be the land of the living skies, but we also boast some incredible unique accommodations. When planning a bachelorx party, honeymoon or miniholiday, there are many options beyond the standard hotel/motel arrangement. We spoke with April Anderson from Alive Sky Lodge southeast of Rosetown about their unique setup. April and her husband Darryl began their venture with a microhotel made up of four self-contained rooms that are all connected by a common space with a kitchen and living room. After a while the Andersons decided it was time to do something more private and “quintessentially prairie.” That was when they created the BINcredible Luxury Grain Bin. The idea of spending a night in a gorgeous grain bin was so popular the couple have recently added a second bin. Their BOHO Bin sleeps up to six people and is a popular choice for smaller groups. Anderson says they are no strangers to bachelorette

parties and wedding couples, having six steady years of bookings for groups who want to do something different. When a group books for their gathering they usually end up booking the whole place and gravitating towards one area or another; the common areas are perfect for activities while guests still have their own private space in the rooms for phone calls or to work remotely on their WiFi. Anderson says they’ve had groups come in with picnics (including professional picnic companies like Boho Picnic YXE), bringing a photographer along to capture the special event. She loves to go above and beyond for guests whenever possible and has been known to make stunning charcuterie boards, picnics and grazing boxes for special occasions. Once situated for the weekend, groups tend to spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoors and privacy offered by

the location. Guests can use their pond to relax on floaties in the summer or go skating in the winter. Bonfires are a popular way to relax and gather in all seasons. Anderson has had her neighbour take groups on hayrides and sleigh rides as well and he always brings his own bus to transport the guests so no one has to worry about driving after a couple of drinks. Oftentimes the people arranging the party will want to have special decorations for their celebrations, something Anderson does her best to accommodate. She recommends having decor mailed directly to the farm where she can set things up ahead of time. If roughing it is more appealing to your party but you don’t want the hassle of setting up tents, Alive Sky Lodge has recently opened up their Schoolee in the Coulee - an old school bus converted for sleeping six people. While it has a bonfire pit and running water, you will need to bring
FALL 2021
sleeping bags and pillows for your stay. She mentions there are no showers or access to their hot tub with this accommodation; this is for campers, not necessarily glampers. That said, it’s a ton of fun and gets campers up off the ground. Since travel has become more difficult with covid restrictions varying depending on where you’re going, Anderson notes couples have been coming to enjoy a mini getaway after their wedding. These little getaways are especially popular for those who are planning on having a honeymoon at a later date. She says they also offer wedding packages with desserts and champagne or sparkling juice. If you’re not planning an event but are looking for a special gift for a couple, Anderson says they have gift certificates available for a stay in this quintessentially Saskatchewan locale.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS THE FINAL MONTH OF WEDDING PLANNING Kirstin Patzer
You’re almost there; just a few more weeks it will actually be here! There are a lot of details to bring together in the last month to make all of your planning come together into the day you’ve envisioned. Here are twelve things to do in the month before your wedding: 1. Finalize your timeline More than just the start times of your ceremony and reception, you need to fill in all of the details for the whole weekend. Start with when you will pick up rentals and start decorating the venue and then move forward. As you confirm details and times with your vendors, you’ll be able to fill in other important time frames like when to pick up flowers, when to let the caterer in, and when to have the DJ run their sound test. When I work with couples, we often end up with a timeline that is three pages long but this helps make sure nothing is missed. 2. Finalize your layout Your venue will need to know ahead of time where you want your tables and chairs set up. If you’re having an outside event, you’ll need to have a map prepared for whomever you have lined up for the set-up. This is also the time to make your reception seating chart if you’re having one (please have one!). This can be a simple handdrawn sketch or, if you’re up for it, there are lots of free floor planners available online. 3. Make a list of day-of items to collect Pens for signing the license, the rings, your guest book, flowers, the card box, and everything else you can think of. Start a list and keep adding to it as you think of things. Then start collecting them and checking them off so they’re all ready to go on your wedding day. You’ll also need to make sure there’s someone in charge of putting them where they need to go because you’ll be busy getting married!
18
4. Make a list of things to do day-of Same as above, there will be a hundred little things that can only happen at the last minute: lighting candles, moving flowers and décor, stowing away all the cards full of money - the list goes on. Start a list and keep adding to it. Then start assigning the jobs to others. 5. Confirm plans with each vendor Get in touch with every single person who will be part of your wedding and confirm plans with them. Make sure you are in agreement on start times, space needs, payment arrangements and services offered. As you go, add the information to your timeline, items list, and jobs list. You probably also want to keep a list of payments to make just to be sure nothing gets missed. 6. Finalize your head count Contact any guests who haven’t replied yet and figure out your final number. Your caterer will need this number and a few other people may as well. Keep your seating chart updated as you go. 7. Get a marriage license This one isn’t too complicated. Just go to the Sask marriage license information page to find an issuer near you. The trickiest part is just finding a time when you can both go in together. Date night anyone? 8. Get gifts for your wedding party and family Now we start getting to the fun stuff! Basically, anyone who is helping you out and not getting paid needs a thankyou gift, or at the very least a thoughtful note. Things can get a bit elaborate these days, but often the most meaningful things are the little personal touches. 9. Have your final gown or outfit fitting Who doesn’t love trying on their dress? No one, that’s

FALL 2021
who! Take someone with you to the final fitting so they can learn the right way to do up the bustle. You can even schedule your hair and makeup trials for the same day and really get the whole experience a few weeks early! 10. Have your bachelorx events Whether your friends are taking you to Vegas, or having a chill night at home, enjoy the time you have with them all together in one place. (Ideas for low key Bachelorx parties can be found in our article on page 8). 11. Have your rehearsal I know these are dreaded, but they can be quick and painless and then you can move on. Your wedding will go so much smoother because of it. Have someone experienced there to run the show (your wedding
FALL 2021
coordinator is an excellent option if you’ve hired one) and make sure to have a plan going in. 12. Pack for your honeymoon Assuming travel is something you’ve decided to do, pack up some of your favourites and look forward to some time with just the two of you once all the craziness is done. And there you have it! This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a solid layout to help you be all set for your day. If you’re feeling like this is way too much, you can hire a wedding coordinator and they will basically take the first half of the list off your hands leaving you with the fun stuff! Remember, as the big day draws near, you’ve got this!

POST-WEDDING BLUES CJ Jackson
Post-Wedding Blues is a real affliction that hits many couples in the months following their wedding day. It’s brought on by a combination of things and the cause is different for everyone. For some, it’s the release of stress that follows the build-up, excitement and high energy put into months of hard work and anticipation while planning a wedding, but for others it’s missing their family and friends or even adjusting to the sudden crash into their new reality of married life. There’s a reason it is listed as one of the biggest stressors in life! It’s a major milestone and big feelings are expected. When couples begin planning a wedding they pour so much of their hearts and souls into the smallest details and it becomes a project built with love and labour through the year(s). For many it is their first big project taken on together, and it shapes how they will navigate future disagreements, budgets, problem solving, compromises and so many other long term relationship skills that make any good marriage a happy one. However, with the end of that project and the excitement it brings, comes a bit of a let down. Couples will have the photo gallery to look forward to and thank you cards to write, but as soon as they are back from the honeymoon they find themselves abruptly back in their day-to-day lives following months of intense focus and planning. What a big change!
22
First of all, recognize that this transition is HARD! You’re literally changing a big part of your identity moving from single status to married, and that process of changing came with a lot of pressure and stress, albeit good stress. The sudden lifting of that pressure is bound to make you feel things and “sad” is one of the most common feelings experienced. Identify what you’re feeling and talk to your new spouse about it. If you are missing the planning, find ways to put that focus and skill to good use. If you’re feeling sad about missing your family and friends, set up some video chats or coffee visits so you can see those beautiful faces. There are plenty of ways to shift focus into this new phase of life and I won’t say that we didn’t renovate a few areas of our house when we found ourselves in the same place, haha! Everyone needs something different to make their way through that season, but if you find your feelings are a bit too big to handle, or your new spouse doesn’t seem like themselves, please talk to someone. Mental health is a priority here at Details, so I would be remiss if I didn’t advise that from a publication standpoint but it is also a personal priority of my own. It’s never too early to ask for help.

NON-BINARY WEDDING TERMS Jessica Williams
The times, they are a-changin’ and we at DETAILS want to change with them! Those who don’t identify with binary gender descriptions are finally feeling free enough to come forward with preferred pronouns and expressions of their identity and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
During the planning stages, if you’re going to have a party with your closest friends, rather than buck/doe or bachelor/bachelorette, the non-binary term is Bachelorx (pronounced ”bachelor-ex”). The x is a non-gendered substitution for ette/or.
Since the wedding industry is traditionally...well, based in tradition things can take a bit longer to change, but change they do! We’re here to help bring the language into 2021 with some non-binary terms for your wedding party!
Over the years there have been many more instances of wedding parties having a Man of Honour or a Best Woman as brides and grooms have friends of the opposite sex, but those terms are also gendered and don’t include non-binary people. Person of Honour or Best Person are all encompassing.
First off, let’s start with the couple. Pre-wedding, they can simply be called Nearlyweds. This avoids the bride/ groom-to-be terminology. The term can also spill into the wedding specific family-gatherings and showers. A Nearlywed Shower is a great way to celebrate your loved ones while respecting their identity. Post wedding, Newlyweds is a great catchall term. It has been used for years but is becoming more common as an alternative to husband/wife which may not apply to the couple.
And finally, what to call the wedded couple if they don’t feel that Mrs/Mr fit? Mx (pronounced “mix”) is a term that allows formality without labeling. Weddings are a celebration of love and love comes in all forms. We’re delighted that couples and loved ones now have terminology which helps them feel their most authentic on their special day.
For the couple referring to each other, Spouse is accurate and gender-neutral.

DO YOU NEED WEDDING INSURANCE? Kirstin Patzer
Weddings can be a big expense. Anytime we spend a very large amount of money, there is the option and recommendation to consider insurance. Weddings are no different. We want to help answer your questions about wedding insurance - what it covers, why it’s important and when to get it. We went straight to the source and got all the details. Will Smith (no, a different one) is the owner of W. W. Smith Insurance in Swift Current and he was kind enough to answer all of our questions about wedding insurance. DETAILS: What is covered under basic wedding insurance? SMITH: The wedding product we have access to is called Weddinguard and it’s an all-in-one package [including] · Wedding Cancellation: Reimbursement of deposits paid or contracted to be paid because of unexpected cancellation of the wedding. · Honeymoon Cancellation: Will reimburse if Insured suffers a loss of pre-paid, non-refundable cost of travel due to the cancellation of the actual wedding. · Loss deposits: Will pay for non-refundable deposits made to providers of any booked goods or services if they suffer financial failure. · Wedding photos and video: Payment of the extra expenses necessary to retake the photos if they cannot be reproduced for any reason including non-appearance of the photographer. · Bridal attire: Coverage for physical loss or damage to the bridal attire once the property is in the care of the Insured. · Wedding Gifts: Insurance for direct physical loss of or damage to wedding presents (24 hours prior to and after
26
the wedding) while property is at the couples’ home or reception location or in transit between the two. · Rings: Covers physical loss or damage to wedding bands. Coverage starts 7 days prior to the wedding. · Wedding Cake and Flowers: Direct physical damage or loss to the wedding cake or flowers seven days prior to the wedding. · Wedding Stationery: Physical damage or loss to the wedding stationery prior to the wedding. Includes invitations, RSVP cards, menus and name cards. · Rented Property: Reimbursement of direct and physical damage to rented property used during the wedding reception. It includes, but is not limited to, temporary outdoor shelters, such as tents or marquees, tables and chairs, stages, audio and visual equipment. DETAILS: What is not covered? SMITH: Cold Feet is not covered. The specifics to what is covered and what’s excluded start to get ‘wordy’. For additional details on what is covered under Weddinguard contact W.W. Smith Insurance Ltd. We’d be happy to answer any questions. DETAILS: What is the price range? And what factors affect the cost? SMITH: Weddinguard has 4 different tiers of coverage: Silver, Gold, Diamond and Platinum. [Prices range from $270 to $1200, with the difference being increased coverage limits]. DETAILS: What has changed since the pandemic started? SMITH: When applying for the Weddinguard policy there

is a waiver that any COVID related incidents will not be covered.
DETAILS: What do you wish couples knew about wedding insurance?
DETAILS: When should insurance be purchased?
SMITH: Our personal experience is that weddings are expensive! Adding yet another cost isn’t ideal. But consider this: as your wedding planning becomes more complex and you get more people involved in the process, mistakes can and will happen. Just know that there is an insurance product out there for you, should you need it.
SMITH: This policy must be sent in 3 days prior to the ceremony; however, you can apply for this policy up to a year in advance. DETAILS: Does a homeowner or tenant insurance policy cover a wedding? SMITH: You can add wedding bands to your home or tenant policy, which is strongly advised. Wedding attire and other belongings may be covered under your home or tenant policy. (A claim under your home or tenant policy could be subject to a high deductible and may affect policy premium).
DETAILS: What are your recommendations? SMITH: When you’re planning your wedding, be cognizant of the risks that you’re introducing. If costs of items are getting high or wedding activities are [becoming] a concern, it might be time to think about insuring against those risks.
DETAILS: What are the most common claims?
To further discuss Wedding insurance in Saskatchewan, Smith can be contacted at:
SMITH: I’ve witnessed anything from a wedding dress getting damaged during the dance party, to photos not turning out and even a cake not making it to the venue. Insurance can’t always protect the day, but it can salvage the memories.

VIDEOGRAPHER & PHOTOGRAPHER COLLABORATION ON YOUR WEDDING DAY Candace Schwartz, Bumble & Vine Photography
The supportive feeling of community is one of the things we love most about being a part of the Saskatchewan wedding industry. It’s been almost a decade since we started photographing weddings and we still get all the feels when we see the end result brought together by a collaboration of skilled vendors mixed with the couple’s creativity. A successful collaboration depends on each professional working toward the same goal and that goal is the product you are hiring them to create for YOU. You don’t want just a gorgeous photo gallery, or just a breathtaking video - you want both. If a vendor can’t play well with others it will hurt the results produced by everyone on your wedding day team. When bringing a videographer on board with a separate photographer, don’t be shy about asking them if they have worked together before and what that experience was like. If they give a glowing recommendation, you can probably rest easy knowing they have done this dance before. If they haven’t worked together before, you can ask more questions about their experiences with others and how they have solved conflicts that have come up during the day. Did they speak up and search for compromise? Did they stay back and hope they got enough, not wanting to make waves? It’s a strange balance to keep while the day rushes past, carrying you from location to location. When you get four extra people in one small space, each of them with one or two cameras it becomes a production where everyone has to know their part. We have worked with some videographers who need to stay close and tight near the couple for their shots

because of the lenses they prefer to use for the style of video they produce. These situations require more time for photographers to work separately afterwards to get our shots without having the videographers close to you and visible in our frame. It’s not ideal, but knowing this ahead of time allows you to plan to add extra time into the day where you can fit it to ensure both teams can take turns working. We don’t find this scenario happens often, so it’s unlikely to be the case. The majority of videographers we have worked with are very aware of the fact that we are all there to serve the couple and to give them the very best from both, and they go out of their way to shoot further back alongside us while we take turns directing the couple and working with the ideas the other team is throwing out. This approach takes less time and gives more of a cohesive end result since we’re shooting most of the same moments. This scenario is honestly a lot more fun for everyone. The photo on the facing page is a great example; the videographer crossee in front of me as I snapped one behind-the-scenes shot to give to them, and the next shot I took was after he stepped out of frame and is of Layton & Cassie alone. It’s the perfect example of teamwork. Whatever kind of team we end up working with, the bottom line is that we all want the best results for you, the beautiful couple that we have been hired to document. While my partner and I don’t mind speaking up to ensure we get our shots, not everyone is like that. Whether they’re in video or photo, make sure both of your crews know that you want them to work with each other and encourage them to spend a few minutes at the start of the day or beforehand saying hello.

LAYTON & CASSIE’S AUGUST 2021 WEDDING BEHIND THE SCENES SHOT OF A VIDEOGRAPHER QUICKLY CORSSING OUR PATH TO GET THEIR FOOTAGE AS WE TAKE OURS FROM FURTHER BACK. IMMEDIATELY THIS SNAP THEY STEPPED BACK SO WE COULD GET A WIDER SHOT OF THE COUPLE ALONE. THEY WERE AWARE OF OUR POSITION AND TOOK THE TIME TO ENSURE WE WERE ABLE TO GET EVERYTHING WE NEEDED WHILE THEY CAPTURED THE VIDEO FOOTAGE THEY NEEDED. IT WAS A GREAT PARTNERSHIP AND WE LEFT THE WEDDING LATER THAT NIGHT EXCITED TO SEE WHAT WE CAPTURED WORKING AS A TEAM. - CANDACE, BUMBLE & VINE PHOTOGRAPHY

PRESS RELEASES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Aesling launches its third collection—with a focus on added drama and size diversity Every year, our design process starts by reflecting on insights from real brides and retailers. This year, our community asked for one thing: drama. This is why our newest collection infuses our otherwise minimalist brand with unique and unexpected architectural influence suited for the chicest brides. Alongside our signature all-crepe wedding dresses,

we’ve added sculptural features like bishop, gigot, and bell sleeves; stunning textured fabrics like our new crinkle organza; and a statement-making column skirt shape. All Aesling dresses are inspired by architecture, and this year we are eager to welcome Sistine, Westminster, Sagrada, Crystal, Sophia, and Mahal to the Aesling roster. These gowns are named for beautiful places of worship around the globe, whose distinctive design elements are mirrored in their namesake dress. Another key focus this year was size inclusion. Founder and creative director Gaby Bayona has always aimed to create a diverse and inclusive community within Aesling. No bride should find her choice limited by her size—we make size 0-26 standard, but we’re here for brides of all shapes and sizes. This year, we decided to take that one step further. “It’s great that many brands have expanded their size availability, but brides wearing extended sizes still rarely get to actually see themselves reflected in brand imagery,” Gaby points out. “We want to set a new standard, and ensure that every bride feels welcomed and represented by Aesling collections.” To this end, every style in the 2022 collection was photographed on a size 2, a size 8, and a size 16 model to showcase the fit on a range of body types. While many brands have expanded their size availability, not all have showcased these fits on a curve model, making visualization nearly impossible. With minimal size representation still an issue in the bridal industry, we have striven to address this by proudly offering curve model imagery of every new dress. The 2022 Collection will be available online on August 18th at 10am PST. Distribution to Canadian, American, and European retailers will begin the same week. Sizes range from 0-26 and are available at Sweet Pea & Noelle in Regina, SK
Ask River Dear River, Now that the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, we can go back to our pre-COVID plans for our wedding. The problem is...we don’t want to. Our families and friends are expecting us to have a gigantic wedding but my fiance and I have warmed to the idea of a more intimate celebration. How can we stick with the quiet theme without insulting our loved ones? Signed, Does Size Matter? Dear Size, Like the old adage goes, “size doesn’t matter”, but there will always be SOME people who think bigger is always better. But let’s get down to business. You got engaged pre pandemic when you could do whatever you wanted and were possibly just going with the flow. Then 2020 hit and everything was turned upside down. Now after 18 months, we can go back to “normal”. That said, many people are not interested or comfortable with the old normal. Here’s the thing; it’s YOUR wedding and you and your partner get to make the calls. If you want to limit the guest list to 10 people, you can do that. If you want your guests to wear funny-nose-and-glasses, you
can do that. If you want to parachute into your ceremony and accidentally get thrown in jail like when Uncle Jesse got married to Aunt Becky, you can do that (guess who binged old Full House episodes during lockdown?). The point is, you and your partner get to make the decisions. You can offer up your COVID-alternative plans to guests, like going ahead with live-stream of the ceremony. As for how to break the news to your crew, honesty is usually the best policy. Something like “Over the past year while adjusting our plans to meet restrictions, we have discovered that we love the idea of a small wedding. We’re excited to use the money we’re saving on a house/ boat/vacation/new furniture/computer/car/ski pass/ wild night out/etc. We are so happy to have your love and support in this and we will be live-streaming the ceremony/posting photos/planning a party/bbq/etc. afterwards to have fun with you all in the coming months”. Remember, size isn’t everything; the important part is how satisfied you are at the end of the day. (Oh boy, I’m having way too much fun with this one)!
