EXPERT ADVICE

JAMES KALLAS JEWELERS CUSTOM IS WHAT WE DO

Jewelry might best be described as personal adornment. Whether it’s a ring, necklace, bracelet or earrings, jewelry is often filled with memories, symbolism and sentiment. James Kallas of James Kallas Jewelers understands this intrinsically and strives to offer clients custom options, one-of-akind pieces and in-shop repairs.

Kallas’ breadth of workmanship underlies his depth of skill. “I started making jewelry when I was 12,” he relates. “Friends of my parents won a raffle on jewelry equipment, so I’d go into their basement and make jewelry. Over the years, I kept building on those first steps. I am mostly self-taught, but everyone along the way meets people who influence them. Even employees have influenced my work, and I am grateful for all my teachers.” Kallas has worked in Santa Fe since 1991, and he opened James Kallas Jewelers in 1996.

At James Kallas Jewelers, there is something for everyone and, if you don’t see it, Kallas can make it. His custom line of stackable rings is made from different colored metals, diamonds and

KALLAS JEWELERS 505.986.1955 2801 Rodeo Road Ste. B-10, Santa Fe jameskallasjewelersinc.com

gemstones, allowing wearers to change their style simply by rearranging the order of the rings. This unique and chic line can also be paired with matching earrings.

When a client comes in looking for custom jewelry, Kallas generally begins by sketching designs on paper. For instance, with an engagement ring, he starts with the shape of the stone. It could be a family stone, or it could be a stone that Kallas has sourced from a host of dealers around the country. Sometimes clients bring in a photo of something they like, or they might model it off another piece of jewelry they admire, like their mother’s ring. Customers also get ideas from finished pieces on display in the store.

After discerning what styles his client gravitates towards, Kallas puts the ideas to computer aided design, which can then be rendered for preview by the client. This way, variances in metals and stones can easily be modified until the client is fully satisfied with the design.

When embarking on the process of creating a custom design piece of jewelry, clients often are not able to envision the final product. “By rendering a picture and making a wax model, we try to remove the unknown and give the client a more precise idea of what the final piece will look like,” explains Kallas. Once the wax model is milled and approved by the client, the piece is cast in Kallas’ on-site shop, which extends beyond the showroom. This makes James Kallas Jewelers the locals’ store for custom repairs. Kallas and his team are also experts in restoring your heirloom pieces to their former glory.

Stop by to browse the showroom, discuss your jewelry ideas with Kallas, or see him at work.

RO•CO•CO Hair Co .

We’re excited to announce the grand re-opening of Rococo Hair Co. Santa Fe! After rebuilding our salon following an unfortunate accident earlier this year, we’re eager to welcome you back.

Your support and patience during this time have meant the world to us. It’s been a long road, but we’re back and better than ever! To celebrate our reopening, we are offering a 20% discount on all Oribe hair care products purchased in July.

Whether you’re a longtime client or new to Rococo Hair Co., we can’t wait to help you achieve the hair of your dreams. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces in our salon once again!

Specializing in just one or two areas of healthcare seems to be the predominant model these days. First comes the diagnosis, then a referral to a specialist for advice and treatment, “We prefer to focus on each person’s total health,” says Dr. Galen Detrik, who partners with Dr. Devin Giron at Vida Dental. “Everything is connected, after all.”

This ‘out-of-the-box’ mindset has resulted in a very different kind of dental office. “Being a patient-oriented practice, we aim to provide services that people can count on to take care of their needs, even in an emergency, or when life throws a curve ball,”

VIDA DENTAL STUDIO Dentistry

The Way it Should Be

explains Dr. Giron. That includes reserving space, every day, for emergency situations that need to be attended to right away, as well as carving out time for new patients, who typically have to wait several weeks, or even months, to be seen.

Going above and beyond standard customer care inevitably builds relationships, which in turn helps significantly when designing made-to-measure treatment plans “We are also one of the only dental offices that takes quality, in-depth photos to record the entire process a patient is going through,” says Dr Detrik. “That can be very useful for future reference.”

CONE BEAM CT SCAN

Something you will not find in any other dental office is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. Carried out by Joey Shura—a specially trained, certified therapist, as well as an experienced hygienist— it is a specially formulated program that trains people to breathe through their nose, instead of their mouth. It also teaches them how to chew and swallow properly. ‘Most people don’t realize that bad oral habits are widespread and can do significant damage to teeth and gums,” says Joey. “Mouth breathing results in lack of oxygen that can cause oral inflammation, tooth decay and bone loss, in addition to airway disorders. It also contributes to sleep apnea, and is one of the most common causes of snoring.” The aim of the program is to create new neural pathways, making it possible to replace unwanted habits with new ones.

Vida Dental clearly operates as a team, with everyone meeting twice a month to focus on training and enhancing the patient experience. Personal growth is also encouraged and Dr. Giron treats his entire staff to an all-expenses paid trip once a year to take part in various courses around the country. Enhancing not only the patient experience, but also that of the team members themselves, is clearly a win/win investment all round, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and upbeat. Getting to know Vida Dental could completely transform your expectations. You may even find yourself looking forward to going to the dentist!

“I was passing through Santa Fe and one of my crowns popped off. I called several offices around town, but none would help. Called VIDA and got an appointment first thing in the morning. X-Ray, evaluation, and repair was done in less than an hour. My thanks and appreciation to the Doctor and his very professional, highly capable staff.”

Roger K.

“Anxiety often accompanies me to the dentist or doctor’s office! But appointments with Joey at Vida Dental Studio often lowers my blood pressure. Her kindness, professionalism and care are exceptional and I highly recommend this dental practice in Santa Fe. Both dentists, Dr. Giron and Dr. Detrik are outstanding!”

Sara B.

“VIDA Dental Studio is the finest dental facility I have ever experienced & I have lived in NYC, LA, SF, Miami and Hong Kong. Drs Giron & Detrik get my highest rating, as well as all the staff. If you live in Northern NM, I urge you to check out VIDA. You’ll be glad you did.”

Jim C.

“Professional, knowledgeable, personable staff; modern high tech facility; wonderful place, wonderful people. That’s a lot to smile about.”

KURE DISPENSARY

Your Local Shop for Cannabis Education and Experience

Cannabis for medical use is a topic surrounded by confusion and misinformation. Years of legal wrangling, together with a cultural disapproval of recreational cannabis, have blurred the lines between truth and myth, and the benefits of medical cannabis are still largely unknown to most people.

Research has, in fact, been ongoing for quite some time, producing results that are both exciting and life-changing. The recent legalization of cannabis for recreational use in New Mexico has brought cannabis into the mainstream, but without much by way of public education.

That is something that Kure Dispensary in Santa Fe is doing its best to change. “People come in with diagnosed medical conditions, and have no idea where to start,” says Monk, the lead budtender. “An increasing number are referred by their family doctor, chiropractor or oncologist, to seek relief from issues they are dealing with, or to find an alternative to pharmaceuticals.”

There are no one-size-fits-all solutions, because everyone is different and so are their lifestyles and individual circumstances. As Monk goes on to explain, “It’s essential to get to know what each person is dealing with, how they live, what they eat, what they may be allergic to, what they like or don’t like.”

Edible products like gummies or chocolates containing more than 100 milligrams of THC require a medical card, but since cannabis today is much stronger than it was back in the hippie days of the 60’s, the lesser amount, combined with CBD may be enough to provide relief. “Cannabis potency has increased exponentially over the past 40 years so it’s always best to start off with a lower dose, to see how the person responds,” points out Monk. “That’s why it’s important to follow people’s progress and we don’t just make sales, we start relationships.”

There are many cannabis varieties, all with different properties and personalities. The parts of the plant (terpenes) that define their smell, flavor and effect, can be combined in different ways to produce different results, creating products that customers find helpful when dealing with specific issues, like chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, nausea, appetite... and many more.

In addition to the flowers themselves, products come in a variety of different forms, from pre-rolled joints to tinctures, edibles, salves, vaporizers, and concentrates. Kure has an impressive inventory, that even includes vegan, low glycemic and sugar-free options, in addition to a wide selection of CBD products.

So if you would like to explore cannabis for medical or recreational use, head over to any Kure Dispensary to check out, and learn about, the products that are now available. You can shop anonymously or join the loyalty program and earn rewards. It really is a whole new world.

BONÍTA MEDICAL CENTER WILL PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE

Dentistry has come a long way in recent years, and many issues that were previously impossible to treat can now be resolved. One of the most common is bone loss, which can affect people of all ages, and is usually caused by missing teeth or gum disease. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) almost half of all adults in the US over the age of 30 have some form of gum disease, a shocking statistic in itself. Left untreated, this can result in loose or missing teeth, and in the first year after losing a tooth, 25% of the surrounding bone is lost as well.

“Bone loss is a common occurrence when teeth are missing for a long period of time, because the roots of our teeth constantly stimulate the production of new bone through chewing,” explains

Dr Brett Schow, owner of Bonita Medical Center. “When teeth have been missing for a longer period of time, bone loss can become so severe that a patient is no longer a suitable candidate for dental implants.”

In those instances the bone that has been lost can be restored with a bone graft, in preparation for placement of the dental implants. It is estimated that well over 2 million bone grafts are carried out each year, and are included in the majority of dental implant procedures. Bone grafting can also be used in the treatment of other conditions, such as facial trauma or tooth extraction.

Bone grafts work by applying prepared bone to the area or areas where the grafting is needed. “The bone can be harvested from another part of your own body, or from a tissue bank,” says Dr.

Schow. “The type of bone grafting procedure you will need depends upon the location of the missing bone, overall treatment plan, and other factors.”

Patient care is a priority for everyone at Bonita and Dr. Schow is committed to providing the best overall experience possible. His facility is state-of-the-art, with the latest tools and technology and he makes a point of explaining treatments and what to expect, in detail.

Skilled aestheticians are also part of the team, offering services that include Botox, fillers, microneedling with PRP, and laser skin rejuvenation, among others. They will be glad to create a customized skincare plan for you, to help achieve your cosmetic goals, and a line of professional skincare products, only available to physicians, can be purchased as well.

I came to Bonita Medical Center for a dental implant. I was nervous, but Dr. Schow and his staff made me feel completely at ease. I really didn’t feel any discomfort at all during the procedure and the recovery was great. I think Dr. Schow is one of the best surgeons I have ever been around and if anyone in Taos needed an oral surgeon, I would definitely recommend they drive to Bonita Medical Center in Santa Fe.

Jacqueline, Taos

I was in need of a procedure that a couple of dental surgeons had declined to perform, because it was ‘too risky’. Then someone referred me to Dr. Schow at Bonita Medical Center. What a difference! He knew exactly what to do, went over everything in detail and did an amazing job which has completely changed my life. He is the best and I wholeheartedly recommend him.”

Joanna, Santa Fe

Fabulous practice! 100/10 recommend. They were able to see me the same day I called for a consult to remove my wisdom teeth. They were able to book the procedure the same WEEK! The procedure itself went perfectly. I had ZERO pain during recovery and hardly any swelling. I’m amazed at my experience. Friendly staff, awesome assistants and a great doctor!

BOOK REVIEW

TROUBLE INFILTRATES TAOS PUEBLO

It’s Friday morning in downtown Taos when a robber grabs cash from a bank, leaving a police officer down as he escapes. He casually joins shoppers ambling down the street as he heads for his car, stashed in the dusty parking lot behind the Taos Inn. Shortly afterward, with police blocking the roads leading out of town, Taos Pueblo tribal police officer Eva Duran is alerted to watch for suspicious vehicles crossing the reservation boundary.

So begins Havoc by Deborah J Ledford, a thriller that’s particularly notable for its atmospheric scenes on and around the Pueblo. There’s fellow tribal police officer Cruz Romero with whom Eva is romantically involved, her friend Paloma who’s recovering from drug addiction by taking solace with horses, Paloma’s son Kai who’s training a Belgian Malinois to become a search-and-rescue dog, a rash of suspicious 3D-printed Glock knockoffs cropping up, a third-grader killed on a school trip, and a bank teller suffering in shock from the robbery—but most of all, there’s life on the Pueblo where secrets spread quickly. Here, officers raise a single finger off the steering wheel as a greeting. High-ranking tribal members lift a coffin as one. The Pueblo takes care of its own, sometimes closing itself off from visitors.

Anguish alternates with well-being on the Pueblo, as Eva brings takeout tamales from Orlando’s, texting Cruz to meet her for dinner at her grandfather’s charred house. Minutes later, “Cruz crossed the reservation in his official vehicle as the sun dropped lower in the western sky, calmed by the scent of sagebrush and sights of flowering plants in the occasional yards he passed. He savored this favorite time of the day, and favorite season, before the cold set in and drove most people inside and made his job even more challenging.”

Author Ledford is part Cherokee and grew up in Albuquerque.

My Favorite Summer Cocktail

There’s something about summer that just makes a cocktail feel right. Whether its hanging by the pool, grilling in the backyard, or simply just taking in a beautiful summer night with friends on the patio— it’s all better with a frosty glass of something delicious in hand.

With its herbaceous and botanical flavors of juniper, flowers, and dried fruit, there is perhaps no spirit better suited for summer than gin. As temperatures rise and humidity spikes, gin’s light flavor profile blends perfectly into several cocktails ideal for quenching your thirst and cooling you down. Here is one of my favorite cocktails to enjoy throughout the summer season…. The Sicilian Fizz!

oz. Plymouth Gin

oz. Muddled Cucumber/Basil

oz. Fresh Lime Juice Club Soda

Sassella’s SUMMER SPLENDOR!

Each season in Santa Fe has its own distinct charm. The coolness of fall, the snowfall in winter, and the breezy days of spring all offer something special, but it’s the summer that we truly live for. Dining at Sassella in the summer offers a serene experience, and this summer promises to be truly exceptional. With a new Executive Chef, additional cocktails, dishes and the opening of the patio, the 2024 DiRoNA award winning fine dining establishment will own the summer. “Everyone in town looks forward to this time of year,” says Lawrence Becerra, Sassella Owner. “This summer will be especially busy, but we have a lot of fun and can’t wait to showcase our new cocktails and dishes.”

Before diving into your dish, start your night on the patio with one, or even both of the new cocktail offerings. The Dalla Casa cocktail is a sophisticated and aromatic blend, featuring the distinctive flavors of Monkey 47 Gin and Mirto Wild Sardinian Vermouth. There’s also the Jasmine Cocktail, a vibrant and sophisticated drink that perfectly balances bitterness, sweetness, and tartness.

The summer ragù will be the talk of restaurant goers. The slow-cooked meat sauce with regional ingredients is not to be missed. Try the Conchiglie Bolognese, which uses shell pasta, red wine, tomato sauce, vegetable mirepoix, garlic, ground buffalo, and parmesan.

Finish the night with the Panna cotta, a classic Italian dessert made from sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and shaped into a mold. The cream is infused with flavors like coffee, vanilla, and other aromatic ingredients. What makes our Panna Cotta especially unique is the use of Marsala wine. Marsala wine is a fortified wine made in Sicily. Marsala is most used in cooking to create nutty, rich caramelized sauces.

Summer brings the arrival of new Executive Chef Tony Smith. While Chef de Cuisine Cristian Pontiggia will maintain his role in menu creation and guiding the restaurant’s vision, Chef Tony will now be at the helm in the kitchen.

Whether you’re indulging in a novel creation on the patio or savoring a timeless classic, Sassella consistently delivers a world-class fine dining experience. The restaurant continues its excellence with its fourth consecutive AAA Four Diamond Award. Reserve your table early, or for a more exclusive experience, consider booking the restaurant for a private event.

10 Years OF AWARD WINNING NEW WORLD MEXICAN CUISINE

Sazón celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024, continuing its tradition of transcending fine dining into an immersive Mexican experience. The restaurant transports restaurant patrons from Santa Fe, NM to Mexico City. From the food to the decor to the curated art collection, Sazón is authentically Mexican. Contemporary and traditional Mexican dishes come from a heritage of Spanish, Portuguese, and Mayan cultures and Chef Fernando Olea does it better than most.

Originally hailing from Mexico City, Chef Fernando Olea, the 2022 James Beard Award Winner for Best Chef of the Southwest, has been captivating Santa Fe diners since 1991 with his distinctive blend of contemporary and traditional Mexican cuisine. Chef Olea crafts refined flavors by combining the culinary traditions and indigenous ingredients of Old Mexico with elements from around the globe.

by Herschel Mair Photography Creative Direction Suzanna Becerra
Rack of Lamb in Spinach Sauce with Shaved Beets & Crispy Rice Noodles

“Chef Fernando continues to wow our visitors with his exceptional culinary artistry and creativity to expand with special and wine pairings,” says Lawrence Becerra, owner of Sazón.

Chef Fernando’s menu is intentionally small, prioritizing fresh, locally sourced produce and meats whenever possible. At the heart of his offerings is mole, a dish embodying Mexican cuisine’s enigmatic essence.

The origins of mole are shrouded in mystery, adding to its allure.

The spotlighted summer special is the Popocatepetl, a spicy black peppercrusted aged Angus beef tenderloin served with snow peas, red cabbage, and jasmine rice.

Popocatépetl, which translates to “Smoking Mountain,” is the name of Mexico’s most famous volcano, located on the border of the states of México and Puebla in central Mexico. Chef Fernando believes the name fits the beef tenderloin dish, which uses chile and black pepper to create a crust that adds both texture and flavor to a delicious prime cut of beef.

“The Popocatepetl is spectacular and a must for the summer; it’s Fernando at his best,” says Lawrence. “It also pairs well with our new set of World wines from Mexico, Spain and California. You can also order a flight of our famous selection of Mezcal and Tequila.”

Sazón offers two seating options: 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Due to limited availability, it is advisable to make reservations well in advance. Indulge in an authentic dining experience at Sazón and immerse yourself in its unique Mexican atmosphere.

Additionally, you can rent the entire restaurant for parties of up to 80 people, making it the perfect venue for special summer occasions.

The generous umbrellas that shield diners from the daytime desert sun, also provide protection in case of a sudden downpour, making it possible to enjoy the summer rain without actually getting wet.

Executive Chef Angel Estrada keeps the menu vibrant and exciting by introducing new dishes for the summer season. Among his favorites is the Seared Branzino with fried leeks, a perfect summer dish. The chilled avocado and cucumber gazpacho stands out for its originality and refreshing taste, catering to all with its vegan-friendly ingredients. Another soup option is the wild mushroom and potato bisque, while the dinner menu highlights the flavorful chile clam chowder. Additionally, the tiger shrimp tempura with sweet and sour sauce is a tempting new addition to the menu.

Santa Fe is renowned for its exceptional cuisine—it’s truly a foodie town—and local restaurants benefit from a loyal customer base all year long. This is particularly true for establishments like Midtown Bistro, which are located away from the bustling downtown area where the summer tourist season is vital. So, take advantage of the beautiful summer weather and support your local eateries. Good food, good friends, good times, and great memories—what could be better than that?

CHEFS’ FAVORITE Summer Dishes

Chef Fernando Olea’s Favorite Summer Dish

I love our dish called Popocatepetl which is a spicy black pepper crusted aged angus beef tenderloin served with snow peas , red cabbage and jasmine rice. Popocatépetl, which translates to “Smoking Mountain”, is the name of Mexico’s most famous volcano lying on the border of the states of México and Puebla in central Mexico. I thought this would be a good name for my beef tenderloin dish that uses chile and black pepper to make a crust that provides texture and flavor to a delicious prime cut of beef.

Chef Cristian Pontiggia’s Favorite Summer Dish

Carbonara di Funghi was one of my grandmother’s favorites and soon become mine growing up as a child in Italy. The flavor of Guanciale perfectly incorporates with the egg and cheese. I would ask her to cook it every night.

I use a flat ribbon Tagliatelle pasta. Guanciale is an Italian salt-cured meat product prepared from pork jowl. Its rendered fat gives flavor to and thickens the sauce of pasta dishes. Combined with mushrooms, black pepper, parmesan foam and white truffle oil. All topped off with a 63 degree sous vide organic egg.

Chef Angel Estrada’s Favorite Summer Dish

My favorite summer dish is a smooth, cool Gazpacho soup. The Chilled Avocado and Cucumber Gazpacho is also a fan favorite with our diners! This extremely healthy, all vegetable soup is easy to make and has been on our menu for all 10 years we have been in business! Now that my daughter is working with me in the kitchen, she has been charged with making this fantastic dish every day and enjoys hearing all the compliments from our customers!

Eating ceviche is, for me, a rite of summer, drinking a cool beverage, conversing about hot topics with our version of ceviche, sea bass or tooth fish, call it what you may. It’s Chilean sea bass, served slightly cured in lemon juice and a splash of ginger ale, finished with red bell pepper, avocado and cilantro. We serve it with fried plantains for sweet and savory edible spoon.

In the heat of summer, we want something light, lovely and nourishing! Try our Japchae Korean Noodle Stir Fry - with sweet potato glass noodles - to enjoy the pleasure of pasta without the heaviness. We stir fry the noodles with local bison and fresh veggies, coconut aminos and sesame oil. This dish is gluten free (of course), paleo and yummy! We can also make it vegan w/tempeh or tofu, and if you like it spicy just ask for a side of sriracha.

I really enjoy our play on a Wedge Salad. All the traditional components are there, but we plate it in a way that provides a better lettuce to dressing ratio, making each bite that much better. It’s hearty and filling due to our slab of bacon and the Point Reyes Blue Cheese we put on top, yet still cool and crisp for a hot summer day. It really is one of my favorite items on the menu, both beautiful and delicious.

EXPERT ADVICE

CURSE THE RAINS THAT COULD BRING ANTS INDOORS THIS SUMMER

As summer begins in earnest, rains begin to take hold, and a pest like ants can wreak even more havoc than in dry times. Much like humans, ants prefer dry harborage, which is why when rains become heavier, ants look for ways into homes to stay dry. Even the smallest cracks or unsealed openings can be the perfect entrance for ants into your home.

Why are ants problematic? As you may already know, ants can pose health and property risks—from food contamination to costly property damage.

Ants will eat practically any kind of food, but are especially attracted to sweets as they supply a large amount of energy to the relatively small ants. In fact, ants cooperate by leaving an invisible chemical trail (pheromones) for other ants to follow once they locate a promising food source. If that food source is in your home, you can count them quickly entering your home through the smallest cracks and crevices.

While most ants are usually just a nuisance, a few varieties are capable of biting people. Most ant bites cause itching, which may last from a few hours to a few days. These mild reactions are very common and home treatment is often all that is needed to

relieve the symptoms. If the bite causes a severe reaction, seek immediate medical attention.

The main tactic in effective prevention plan is to create a less inviting environment for pests around your home. This includes eliminating access and removing suitable sources of food and water. Exclusion is the process of keeping pests outside of your home; however, exclusion can prove difficult to the untrained eye and covering every entry point is virtually impossible without the assistance of a pest control professional.

Another suggestion is to reduce moisture content around the exterior of your home in surrounding flower beds and other landscaping. Reduce the watering times and increase the frequency of your irrigation system. Direct the downspout flow as far away from your home as possible; add downspout extensions if needed. Also, reduce the depth of mulch around the exterior of your home to no more than one inch—the deeper the ground cover, the more moisture will be trapped, creating an ideal breeding area for all pests.

Bottom line: if you have trouble getting rid of ants and D-I-Y is not helping, call your local pest control professional for assistance.

Good interior design is most often a calculated balance between old and new, understated and bold. ere is always a ne line with a tipping point. Evaluate your various elements with care. Just because you may live in a Southwestern-style home, does not mean that you need turquoise howling coyotes at the front door and a potted cactus in the corner. Most New Mexico homes can easily embrace even the cleanest and most sophisticated contemporary interiors.

Pull the colour from your carpet and spread it throughout your space with careful attention to scale and texture. Create harmony with variation on theme. Utilize wall art, lighting, and accessories like throw pillows to move your palette throughout the space. Keep in mind that more isn’t always more. Place your pieces one item at a time, analyzing their contribution to the whole.

Make your project a treasure-hunting adventure that may take a month, or it may be an endeavor that will evolve over a number of years as you

Santa Fe Awning Co. provides a variety of products to address sun and wind protection needs:

Shade Sails: Colorful, geometrical shapes that block 95% of UV rays.

The Santa Fe Patio Wind and Solar Screen™: Blocks sun and wind, suitable for existing patio structures or custom-designed over/under structures.

DO YOU SLEEP BETTER ON VACATION?

From far away travels going to exotic places to a stay at one of our local spas, the vacation experience can be one of total relaxation and rejuvenation. And those are some of the main reasons we go to get away from it all! Sleep, rest and relaxation are all contributing factors for a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Several of our clients have come in with wonderful stories about their travels and the fact that they slept so much better on vacation than they are sleeping at home, prompting them to realize that they may need a new bed. To help us assist in replicating the vacation sleeping experience, please take note of what you like better than the bed you have at home.

Also, on your last day, if you can, uncover the bed to see which mattress it is and if it has any toppers. Take notes, pictures of any brands or law tags and you may even want to ask about the mattress set in your room for further details.

I will admit that I have done this in the past when I have been traveling. I wanted to find out their layering secrets or why this mattress created the perfect blend of comfort and support for me. It has been truly eye opening how effective layering can be!

Pillows are also an important component in getting that perfect night’s rest. It’s the little “bed for your head” and contributes to the overall feel of the perfect bed! So, collect information on the pillow as well.

Once you return from your journey armed with information about your perfect vacation sleep, please visit Sleep & Dream and let us help you recreate that perfect balance. Schedule time in your

day to spend time at our store really testing out similar beds and pillows along with any possible layered toppers.

The brands we carry were hand picked for their natural materials which can contribute to a wide range of comfort levels depending on how they are layered. Some of the brands we feature also are two-sided; meaning that they can be flipped over thereby helping to eliminate body impressions, increase longevity and even wear of the mattress. These are the types of mattresses I remember from my childhood. Quality construction and natural materials have and will continue to stand the test of time.

A wonderful experience that one of our clients shared with us is when we were able to deliver their new Hästens bed right before they left on vacation. They were only able to sleep on their new bed for one night before leaving on holiday. They said that they talked about their new bed while on vacation and couldn’t wait to return home to have more great nights on their new bed!

Have fun traveling this summer and if you have a wonderful, restful vacation, we would love to hear about your adventure too and help you to have it at home as well!

“Wake up to a great day!” …experience the rest!
