On Tuesday afternoon the JV and Varsity Tide traveled to Northeast Philadelphia to take on Archbishop Ryan. Over the years the Raiders have made a huge impact in the PCL and gave the Tide a run for their money. Even though the Tide did everything they could to control the ball, it wasn’t enough to stop the Raiders from breaking down their defense, putting a handful of goals in the back of the Tide’s net. Ultimately the Varsity team lost 5-0. The JV Tide had a similar result, struggling to create chances and fighting to finish the chances they got. They too took the loss, 2-0.

On Thursday evening the Varsity Tide traveled to Delaware County to take on Bonner in a PCL match up under the lights. The Tide knew coming into this game they had to make an impact immediately and put the Friars under pressure. The Tide did exactly that by putting away 4 goals on the Friars! The first goal was scored by AJ Galietta ‘27, his first goal since joining the Tide this fall. Next up was Matt Pascale ‘25 putting away a goal, his first of the season. Drew Yusko ‘27 added another by making a successful penalty kick. The fourth goal was scored by - yet again - Matt Pascale! Between the pipes Braeden Fisher ‘26 recorded his first shutout of the season! It was a great, team effort that lead to our 4-0 victory over the Friars!

On Saturday morning, the Varsity Tide hosted the Friends’ Central School in a non-league contest. The Tide did their best to keep up with FCS but struggled to keep them off the scoreboard, and struggled to put anything together in the offensive zone to put FCS under pressure. The end result was a 3-0 loss to FCS. The Tide look to redeem themselves as they host Archbishop Carroll in a big PCL match up on Tuesday afternoon!

On Saturday, the Middle School Tide soccer team traveled to Downingtown to take on St. Joseph in a CYO showdown. It was another warm Saturday morning, which played a factor considering the Tide only had 12 players available. The Tide played well the entire game but grew tired with only having one substitute and ultimately fell to St. Joseph 4-1. The lone goal was put away by Teddy Thiel ‘30 as he shot a rocket into the back of the net via penalty kick!

Golf

On Monday, the Varsity Tide hosted the Bonner Friars in a PCL match at Linfield. The Tide played well and made some impressive shots throughout the round, beating the Friars 231-284 in their final PCL match of the season! The Tide was led by John Curran ‘25 who shot an impressive 31 in the final regular season PCL match of his career. Others who played well for the Tide included Andrew Carroccio ‘27 (34), Chris Pullano ‘26 (40), Jude McCann ‘26 (41), Dan Dowling ‘27 (41), and Pat Manion ‘26 (44).

On Tuesday, the JV Tide hosted Holy Ghost Prep at Linfield. The match didn't quite go the Tide’s way, losing to Holy Ghost 254-288. However, this match was much closer then our last match with the Firebirds. The Tide definitely showed improvement! The low scores of the round were Nick Masciantonio ‘28 and Ben Veith ’28, both shooting 43's. Nick, it should be mentioned, had a great recovery on #9. Andrew Murray ‘28 made good use of his "new" driver, hitting multiple fairways. The Tide have their final match of the season against Episcopal next week.

On Tuesday, the Tide were on the road, traveling to Union League National Golf Club to take on Holy Ghost Prep. This was the battle of the preps and it came down to the very end on a tough course. Unfortunately, the Tide fell to the Firebirds 198-207. The team was led by John Curran (37), Andrew Carroccio (42), Gavin Schraegle ‘28 (42), and Chris Pullano (43). This was the final match of the season as the Tide head into playoffs and the PCL Championships next week!

On Wednesday afternoon the Middle School Gold Tide had their first match of the season. The Tide hosted The Haverford School at Linfield National on a beautiful day. The match consisted of 3 foursomes, 6 v 6 in match play. The Tide sent Chris Vaughn ‘29, Jack Fatica ’29, Kellen Smith ‘30, Matt Pacitto ’29, Riley Brennan ‘29, and Ryan Aquilante ‘30 to represent the team. This was a hard fought match, but The Haverford School finished the round on top. As a team the boys averaged a score of 37.5 per 8 holes, a definite highlight. The overall low score of the day was Ryan Aquilante with a 48, and Ryan and Matt were the only two that were able to complete all nine holes. Ryan also lead the team averaging 5.3 strokes/hole, followed by Chris Vaughn with 5.5 strokes/hole and Matt Pacitto averaging 5.7 strokes/hole. Congrats to the entire team! The Tide’s next match will be next Wednesday when Chestnut Hill Academy comes to Linfield National.

Cross Country

The Tide had another busy week with their second PCL Meet on Wednesday at Belmont Plateau and the New Balance Whippet Invitational on Saturday! The boys are getting used to the hilly Belmont course and had a nice break on Saturday with a somewhat-flat cross country course in Downingtown. Whatever the course, the boys are always ready to push hard and give it their all! Saturday's results included personal bests for all of the Tide runners - AJ Adams ‘28, Andres Garcia ’28, Charlie Krug ‘25, Manny Strid ‘28, and Oliver Parenteau ’28 all ran their personal bests by more than 1 minute!! Congratulations to the entire team! This week will be a break from racing, with some great team workouts in addition to recovery efforts.

On Sunday, the Devon Prep Middle School Cross Country team headed to Bishop Shanahan High School for their second CYO meet of the season. Our DP runners competed hard, resulting in an afternoon of outstanding individual performances. In the 3K Minor race, Hugo Derval ‘31 finished 15th with a personal record (PR) of 12:27, and Jack Bourdow ‘30 set a new PR of 15:27, shaving over a minute off his previous best. In the 4K Cadet race, Trevor Heebner-Elliott ‘29 turned in his first top ten finish, coming in 9th with a PR of 16:13. Ryan Aufiero ‘30 was close behind, finishing 21st with his own PR of 17:05. Hayden Barbera ‘29 (21:35) and Evan Martin ‘29 (23:56) went on to set PRs as well, despite both of them coming off minor injuries. And Fred Tucker ’29, returning from illness, battled through a tough day to finish his first race of the season! The boys are back in action at the Shipley Gator Middle School Invitational next Sunday morning at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr.

Athlete of the Week

Braeden Fisher ‘26

The athlete of the week is the starting goalkeeper for the soccer team, Junior, Braeden Fisher! Braeden continues to grow throughout the season, and he’s been the glue between the pipes for the Tide. This week he recorded his first shutout of the season, helping the Tide win 4-0 over Bonner on Thursday night. With this result the team moved into 8th place in the PCL. His play in recent games has seen him rack up saves and grow as a leader in the backline. The team has a huge week upcoming with two PCL games vs. Carroll and St. Joe’s. Roll Tide!
