Swimming
The Tide swim team kicked off an exciting first week of competition by traveling to Upper Darby and the Lansdale YMCA to compete in the first two meets of the season.
Tuesday’s meet with Upper Darby saw some great performances with several heat winners (Will Sutton ’27 in the 50 Free, Luca Calzaretta ’28 in the 100 Back, and John Bailer ’28 in the 100 Breaststroke), and an impressive District 12-qualifying time by Sutton as he shaved 3/10ths of a second from his previous personal best in the 50 yard Freestyle to finish in 25.97.
An exciting highlight moment was the team’s performance in the 200 Freestyle Relay as Andrew Rockich ’27, Nick Maciantonio ’28, Bailer, and Sutton capitalized on the team’s strength of speed and won the event in a thrilling finish.
The Devon Prep swimmers then showed up in a big way at Thursday’s meet with Lansdale Catholic, walking away with a well-deserved 43-26 win and logging two additional District 12-qualifying times for Gio Notaro ’25 in the 50 Free (26.00), and Rockich, who dropped an unheard of 16 seconds from his previous season’s personal best in the 100 Free to finish and qualify for Districts with a time of 1:01.13.
Additional standout performances and displays of teamwork came from Oliver Vanderslice ’27, who logged a personal best in the 50 Free, and Michael Formica ’28, Masciantonio, and Bailer who all stepped up in a big way to swim back-to-back events as well as tackling some of the tougher events of the meet in order to secure the points necessary for the team to come away with that victory.
The Tide has another busy week ahead with three meets before taking a well-deserved break for the holiday. These first few weeks of competition will no-doubt be a strong start to what is anticipated to be a great season.

Also, Drew Buzbee ‘27, Salvatore Albert ‘27, Christian Leckman ‘27, Jason Bushra ‘27, and Grant Napoletano ‘27 showed a lot of heart by making the best of their matches, while walking off the mat with their head held high.
As for the JV match up, the Tide wrestled well and brough a lot of energy on to the mat. Speaking of energy, Freshmen, Charlie Kleiner ‘28 came out ready to wrestle with being very offensive with taking shots on his opponent. Athlete of the Week
Basketball Team
This week the athletes of the week goes to the Devon Prep Basketball team for fulfilling our core value of community. The basketball team spent the day at Drexel Neumann Academy in Chester working with students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The students worked on various basketball skills but more importantly than that, they developed bonds that transcends sports. This day comes on the heels of the team helping to run the inaugural Brad Fisher Tournament all weekend that helped raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. What a great week!
