February is Mardi Gras Month
UPCOMING EVENTS
But Run with Seton Soles and You Won’t Be Fat Tuesday or Any Other Day of the Week!
A
ccording to Wikipedia, the term “Mardi Gras” refers to the carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. So, during this month, whether you are preparing to fast, or to be fast, the Seton Soles 5K Run/Walk will serve! DFWRUNS is helping to organize both a 1-mile and 3.1 mile walk/run again (April 14, 2012) but have broadened our wingspan this year — so stay tuned for some exciting details! We’ve reached an all new runner’s high so keep an eye on the sky as we’ll be soaring over all social media markets to ensure this 5th annual event rises above everyone’s expectations. The course Monsignor Henry V. Petter took back in 1999 is what sets this race apart from others. He instituted the first Dallas parish based, Office of Peace and Justice, which allowed thousands of Collin County families in need to receive life-sustaining support. Under Monsignor’s guidance, the people of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano led and participated in partnerships with churches, community leaders, and public officials to ensure appropriate poverty limits were set for those seeking basic healthcare within Collin County. In 2008, the Monsignor Henry V Petter Endowment Fund was established and continues as the sole support of Peace and Justice within Collin County today. That same year, the very first annual Seton Soles 5K Walk/Run commenced. In honor of Monsignor Petter’s passion for running, and as one vehicle of fundraising for the endowment, the first annual Seton Soles 5K Walk/Run also commenced in 2008. All donations and proceeds will help the endowment and its purpose to provide support to families who are experiencing difficulties within our societal structures. Event Sponsors and Vendors are now being accepted. Registration opening soon! Keep up to speed with registration and other Seton Soles 5K details on Facebook! Do you like to help? Send us an email to volunteer. To become a Sponsor, Partner, or Friends of Seton Soles, contact: DFWRUNS at (214) 339-7867 or Marissa Walton at: mwalton@eseton.org or 972-596-5505 ext 4234.

IT’S SNOWMAGEDDON!
Rahr Runs and Remembers the February 2010 Brewery Roof Collapse in a Big Way January kicked off a new year and we hope you started it off on the right foot. We at DFWRUNS started off on both feet with beer in hand as we launched the 2012 Rahr & Sons Brewery social run series! (It takes a lot of coordination, but we’re just that good!) In the same way a beer connoisseur pairs the perfect brew with his seasonal dish, we went ahead and paired this year’s social runs with the popular Saturday Brewery Tours. The run is free, but for just $10 runners can enjoy the tour & tastings plus T&P Tavern’s delicious dish upon return from the 3 mile run/walk. It’s not a race, but we encourage you to belly up to our sign in booth fast! This special price is for runners only and the $10 fee will end when the runners depart at 11am. We recommend arriving to sign in at 701 Galveston Avenue in Fort Worth by 10:45am. You don’t want to miss your chance to taste how the race was born! Snowmageddon is a Rahr brew commemorating the 2010 storm which caused the Brewery roof to collapse — a tragedy which sparked the relationship with Trinity Habitat for Humanity.

You Can RUN, But You Can't Hide! We’re Running the Show with Dan “NITRO” Clark and the Gladiator Rock’n Run
T
here was no hiding our excitement when our newest client busted down our door with the opportunity to present the Gladiator Rock N’ Run to Texas! It’s been called, “a fire leaping, mud slinging, spandex clinging, run from hell with beer” and we get to run the show! We are already fantasizing about pecks perks like free spandex singlets, however, our anticipation seems in vain since one of the top rules listed at GladiatorRockNRun.com is: Some people should never wear spandex. You know who you are. Don’t do it. So, we’ll stick to what we know best rather than hold firmly onto that which causes our imaginations to run riot. FOCUSING ON THE PARTICULARS This 5K/10K obstacle running series was created by former American Gladiator, Dan Clark aka. NITRO, and tours the country — kicking off 2012 in Arizona this March, then up and down California through May, before blowing up DFW June 16th. We know you can hardly wait now that we’ve just given you good reason to squeeze back into that spandex, so try this on for size: You can win a round-trip for two, plus two free race entries and three nights stay in San Diego to conquer the April 14th event! All you need to do is “like” Gladiator Rock’n Run Facebook page and provide the required eligibility information before March 2nd, 2012. Then, in preparation for a 60 ft. slide called, “Skid Marks”, you should start packing an extra pair. (Limit one entry per person) So are you Gladiator tough? If you are, you don’t just get the memorable headpiece, but an insane shirt by Affliction and a custom Rock’n survivors’ medal that we know will look better on you than taut lycra.
Bandits Wanted!
...that is, Birthday Bandits! This year we kicked off the DFWRUNS Birthday Bandits Club. Each month we host an “exclusive” social run (location will vary monthto-month) to celebrate all the bandits who have birthdays that month. Asphalt and good cheers will be provided to all … AND did we mention, an EPIC gift for all the Birthday Bandits.
