Exhibition Area

About the Project This project brought up by food security issues. Food security itself defined as condition that exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. Gunungan, as one of villages in Bantul has every aspect to provide its community food security. Though as years goes by, its community face some problems that could threaten its food security such as climate change, poor environmental conditions, agricultural land conversion, economic conditions (poverty), and social conditions (lack of understanding of food security). Hence comes the solutions to integrate sustainable food with agriculture system in the whole community to strengthen its food security and combined it with facilities that could increase understanding of food security in such entertaining method. This project use agricultural urbanism as design approach, where its aims is to integrate local food systems with regional planning systems that involve agricultural elements to increase food security as well as bring a positive impact on environment, economic, and social conditions. 2

‘Play’ Zone

Visitors can reach ‘Play’ Zone from Exhibition Area by bicycle. This area called ‘Play’ Zone because visitors can join local community and directly try these activities: taking care of cows, harvesting rice, manually drying rice, rice milling and packing, planting vegetables, and processing farm waste. All those activities support the whole storyline as ‘experiencing’. This area choosen as ‘Play’ Zone because there are three existing buildings: communal cowshed, drying area, and granary. Then to meet the function as ‘Play’ Zone, community garden and waste processing building were added. The existing buildings also get renovation to meet the standard.

The last one is Festival Area. Beside everyday work on farm, local community also preserving culture by traditional dancing practice and make a traditional dance show. They usually perfomed at local festival after harvesting season. To accomodate their needs, this Festival Area is developed, not only as place for festival, but this place can also be used as practice place, youth gathering, children playing, or just hanging out. This place also accomodate community garden.

This planting pattern is based on polyculture planting system. It can be a guideline for other community garden as well. Community garden in this Festival Area is a pilot project that expect community to apply polyculture system on their garden. Polyculture system can bring advantages such as: it serves as edible landscape; varying crop yields that can be sold; and protecting the soil. Primary tree: Kedondong, durian, nangka, etc. Secondary tree: Jamblang, kersen, alpukat, etc. Bushes & shrubs: Murbei, kopi, etc. Vegetables: Tomat, cabai, kemangi, terung, etc.

Infrastructure

Improve the infrastructure of Gunungan is an integral part from this whole agricultural park design. Those infrastructures are including road, signage, resting point, urban landscape (community garden), rain water harvesting, waste collecting point, and display facility for home indsutry.

Road

Design Plan

Existing Road

Most road inside the village are wide enough but mostly without any paved surface (only soil/sand) which could be dangerous. The plan is paving the road while leaving some space for greenery on both side. It would also accomodate pedestrian and bicycle way. 19

Street Furniture Resting Point

‘Cakruk’ as resting point for visitor, also functions as place for ‘ronda’ at night.

Garden Almost every villagers have uncultivated edible plants growing up in their garden, but they barely caring for it. These design put those uncultivated edible plants to make community garden that would beneficial for both community and environment. These community garden also provided with rain water harvesting equipment and waste collecting point before it carried to waste processing center. 20

Solo Balapan Rail-transit Oriented Development

21

About the Project ROD (rail-transit oriented development) is a concept based on TOD (transit oriented development) which focusing on rail station emplacement and its surrounding area up to radius 500 metres. This development prioritizes the area to be compact with mixed-use function, vertically oriented buildings, pedestrian oriented distance, and accessible with public transport. Solo Balapan Station has every aspects to develop into ROD. It located in the middle of Solo and already connected with Tirtonadi Bus Station by skybridge. There is also a plan to link it with Adi Sumarmo Airport by new railway track. But there are few issues that prevent further development especially inside the emplacement. This project aim is to resolve the issues within emplacement and enhance Solo Balapan as one stop living station that will fulfill every needs. 22

Existing Condition Building style Dominated by modern style building ( ), but the station itself has indische style ( ) from Dutch Colonialism era .

Building height Dominated by one-story building ( ), floor area ratio (FAR) is less than 1. It makes this area density ineffective.

Land-use Dominated by settlement ( the emplacement.

), even inside

Access Limited access only from south side of the emplacement. BST corridor 6 BST corridor 2

23

Design Transformation Access Solo Balapan only has limited access through Jalan Monginsidi (south side of emplacement). As it has plan to expand the station on the north side as airport station, it should be accessible from north side too. Response to this issue is open up the access from the north side and make it accessible by various transportation methods. Inside the emplacement, beside the skybridge to Tirtonadi Bus Station, there are two other skybridges to across from south to the north (and vice versa). There is also pedestrian and bicycle way to explore the emplacement area. Pedestrian & bicycle way Skybridge

There is also drop-off point on the north station. Beside that, there are two parking lots that placed far from both stations. That is an attempt to make people use public transport instead and reduce the vehicles that passing inside the emplacement. Main road Drop-off

Add another BST shelter on the north side, so both station could be reach by BST. BST corridor 6

BST corridor 2 BST shelter

Split the emplacement into two zones; north and south. Both side should be connected and accessible South side

24

Land-use The main issue is there are too many settlement inside the emplacement that could prevent further development near the station. This station itself would develop new airport station and other facilities that could support it as one stop living station. Response to this issue is make zoning plan that would beneficial both for the station development and the resident who live inside the emplacement.

Zoning plan inside the emplacement: Station ( ) as the center of activity of the emplacement, the nearest facility would be commercial and mixedused ( ), and the settlement area ( ) placed farthest from the station, because it is impossible to eliminate them entirely, the solution is to make specific zone for settlement. There are also some green spaces ( ) added as landscape, attractive public space, and fulfill environmental needs.

As the plan to add airport station behind the main station, this airport station would facing north to make that side of emplacement more lively. Thus, it would be two stations that become the center of the emplacement that facing two way.

There is settlement domination inside emplacement, but a lack of commercial and mixed-used facility near the station, such as hotel, restaurant, department store, etc. This condition could not accomodate visitors who travel a lot and need immediate facility before the next trip.

Density Surrounding area up to radius 500 metres are dominated by one-story building, it makes the floor area ratio is less than 1, that means the area is ineffective and waste a lot of spaces. Considering the site potential and the city constitution, response to that issue is to make compact and vertically oriented building that accomodate every needs like the zoning plan that has been previously mentioned. The block plan building start from solid mass, and then add void area as indoor landscape. It also has levelling with different height to maximize views. These modules are flexible to arrange to adjust the function or site position.

Based on simulation, these block plan should covered the emplacement built area only up to 19.750 m² with BCR at 24,29%. But with vertically oriented building, the total floor area could reach up to 88.230 m² with FAR at 1,08 and makes it more effective than before.

According to the zoning plan, every zone has two potential views: city views and railroad views. It should be taken as advantage to design the building with both views.

About the Project Satu Bumi is a sport field located in Fakultas Teknik of Universitas Gadjah Mada. This place could be used for basketball, volleyball, wall climbing, and outdoor fitness. But due to inconvenient access and inadequate facilities, this place is neglected and students rarely seen doing some sports here. A lot of vegetation also grow uncontrollably make this place looks dirty and attracts many distrubing insects. Satu Bumi actually have a strategic location near Fakultas Teknik main entrace gate, it also located near two parking lots and has slow streams that could be an interesting landscape element. The goal of this project is to revive Satu Bumi as park to do a lot of things that it will become beneficial and fully-functioned for students. 30

Transition Zone

There is a boundary between Satu Bumi and Teknik Geologi* and it makes Satu Bumi isolated. Clearing up that boundary will makes easier access for students from Teknik Geologi to come to Satu Bumi. On the other side, people can come to Teknik Geologi canteen because it will be closer. This area will be transition between Satu Bumi, first parking lot, and Teknik Geologi. It can be a comfortable gathering point because it consist a lot of benches. (*existing condition, picture number 4) 32

Fun Zone

Fun Zone serves as area where students can do a lot of sport activities such as basketball, wall climbing, jogging, table tennis, and outdoor fitness, or just watching others play.

Tranquil Zone

Tranquil Zone is area across the water stream. It has water ambience that make this zone more quiet and relax than the other zones. Students can discuss, study, or just chilling out here. 33

Retention Pond

This retention pond designed on an idle land near the parking lot*. It has function to collect rain water. It also has sluice that connected with the water stream below, if it’s open it will make waterfall that added the water ambience in Satu Bumi. (*existing condition, picture number 2)

About the Project Tirta Amerta means “air kehidupan”. This office is designed to create balance and harmony as its function to always serve the community together with the puskesmas (health center) beside the office. This project has some issues such as limited site area, inefficient circulation, irregular building mass, and distance that too close with the puskesmas. It also has a pendopo (traditional gazebo) that shouldn't be changed because it is considered a cultural heritage building by its officer. The site is located at Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro, which is filled with offices, hotels, restaurants, markets, and other crowded places. Therefore, this office should be easily reachable and accesible by people, also it could harmonize with its modern surroundings. 48
