1812-2012 Bicentennial of the creation of the Flag
(1770‐1820) He is Manuel Belgrano. His whole name is Manuel José Joaquín del Corazón de Jesús Belgrano. He is the creator of Argentinian Flag. He hoists it for the first time on February 27 th, 1812, in Rosario, province of Santa Fe. Today a huge monument to the flag lies there.
This is The Argentinian Flag. It is the highest symbol of our nation. It now has three horizontal strips. Two of them are sky‐blue. The third is white and it is between them. A bright sun is just in the center of the flag . The Congress adopts this symbol on July 20th,1816 and adds the sun in 1818.
Our flag is raised in Buenos Aires in 1812 in the church tower of St. Nicholas of Bari.
Today the Obelisk is in that place.
Monument to the Flag in Rosario Many streets, Avenues, parks, squares, schools and ships are named to do him honour.
Belgrano dies poor and far from his family. His remains lie in his Mausoleum in the Convent of Santo Domingo.
