Results of the Literary Competition “Our Forests, Our Lives 2011”

This literary competition organised by Diasporic Literature Spot has come to a successful conclusion. The competition was endorsed and supported by the United Nations International Year of Forests Declaration 2011 with further endorsements by the following organisations:      

Parks Victoria, Healthy Parks Healthy People City of Thessaloniki Central Macedonian Precinct Greek-Australian Cultural League Hellenic Cultural Association Nostos 1st High School Sykeon Thessaloniki

The above mentioned organisations declare this competition a success with over 65 entries submitted in three languages from different parts of the globe. Most of the competition entries were in the Greek language with 54 entries, then 10 entries in the English language whilst in Spanish there were only two entries.

The judges of the Literary Competition 2011, titled “Our Forests, Our Lives” have come to a final conclusion. The works were divided by language and then further subdivided according to each literary category. Most of the entries were poems whilst a number were essays and short stories. One encouraging thing is that some of the writers who participated were students. However because this was an open competition and not divided to student and adult author entries all submissions were judged on literary merit rather than the age of the person who wrote it. Hence the younger generation should be encouraged to write more in order to further refine their structures and talent. Having said that, one student received a merit award in the Greek language. Congratulations to all who participated. Diasporic Literature wishes to sincerely thank the above mentioned organisations for their support. It is a blessing to have such a high ranked array of international bodies endorsing and supporting the cause. Forests are of paramount importance for our livelihood and survival. We also wish to thank the judges who took time to carefully study and comment on the content. A decision by the committee not to announce the names of judges immediately is hereby stated. The names of the judges will be announced soon after the results are published. The eight judge’s decision in all languages is final. No protests will be accepted. The awarded works will receive a certificate and will also be included in the next issue of the literary magazine “Diasporic Literature” to be published later this year.
