TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION

CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.

THE BUYER

Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.

BEFORE THE AUCTION

Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.

THE AUCTION

Bidding All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen. Bidding Increments Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments: Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp.

Popo Iskandar Born in Garut, December 17, 1927. He started painting in 1944. He graduated from the University of Indonesia and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Besides as a painter he is also an art observer and writer. In 1980 he received art award from Indonesian Government. He has participated in many exhibitions in Indonesia as well as overseas. His works were mostly on animal such as chicken, cat, and tiger. He held his solo exhibitions at Taman Ismail Marzuki Arts Center, Jakarta (1987, 1992, and 1994), National Gallery, Jakarta (1999) and participated in group exhibitions at KIAS, USA (1990), The Best of Indonesia, Jakarta (1997), and Slovenia Gradec (1997). A distinctive features of Popo Iskandar’s paintings, besides his cats are his roosters. He began with this theme in 1974 as an object study. The object of the rooster experienced several steps of expression, much the same as the five steps for the cat. Popo’s rooster is an object close to his daily surroundings and the figure is often used as an indicator of wind direction. Popo’s roosters are like wayang kulit or shadow puppets. Their shapes are shown from a side view. The rooster reflected a special artistic and esthetic manifestation. Popo’s rooster represents the attribute of being prepared to take off, to attack, and to dart out of the way. His roosters were painted using minimal color. Though minimal, the meaning and value of the work of art is not to be aimed at the lack of materials or tools, but rather the ideas, concepts, genius, intellectuality, and skill. 048

Han Snel Born in 1925 in Scheveningen, Holland, Han Snel arrived in Indonesia as a Dutch soldier in 1946. He had a life-long love affair with Bali. Snel immediately fell in love with the island; a love so deep until he marred a local girl, apply for Indonesia citizenship and embrace Balinese Hinduism. He lived in Ubud from 1950 until his death in 1998. Balinese themes are Han Snel’s specialism, in particular figures done in a more or expressionist style: he himself prefers to describe his manner with its very conspicuous, curved lines, as ‘roundism’. In his works, Snel focused his attention on the beauty of Balinese women. His colors were varied and lean towards the primary with contrasting area of dark shading. His visual imageries, subdued colors and fine lines captured the essence of Ubud and the island as a place where serenity reigned and simple people led an honest life.

Oil on canvas: 130 x 200 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Ronald Djaling04 RP 18.000.000 - 20.000.000 Ronal Djaling was born in Jakarta, 11 February 1959. He held his fist solo exhibition in Jakarta, “Entitled Beauty amidst the Storm. Ronald Djaling falls into a category of intriguing artists. The art school dropout commenced an unfailingly arduous journey of self-learning to re-create the authentic beauty of realistic images with a passion that he felt stirring deep within. His highly perceptive senses and love for realism speaks out loud and orator-like from his leaning canvases. Ronald unveils about 30 new works of art. They can be classified into mainly two categories - portraits of ordinary people going about their ordinary lives and breathtaking birds-eye landscapes. Farmer shows the man of the earth standing and looking over his teeming harvest with pride and elation. Once again Ronald creates magic of accentuating depth into the painting by working on the light and shadows. The sun-tanned crisp skin, criss-crossed by well defined wrinkles, as well as the expression in the eyes is amazingly alive. They almost talk to the onlooker and seem to jump out telling the story of his hard toil in the sun-kissed fields. The feeling persists long after one would walk away from Ronald's artwork that had been printed on a postcard as it would have looked just like a photograph. 44
