CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.

THE BUYER

Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.

BEFORE THE AUCTION

Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.

THE AUCTION

Bidding All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with HERITAGE in advance. Absentee/ Written Bids If you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways. The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction given to HERITAGE to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by HERITAGE will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the sale and returned to HERITAGE within 24 hours before the sale or by fax to (021) 351 0707. Telephone Bids If you cannot attend the auction, HERITAGE will execute on behalf of your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least 1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone. Successful Bids Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. HERITAGE will record the bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding may be reopened. Unsold lots When a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week in case there are any post sale offers.

AFTER THE AUCTION

Payment Payment of purchases should be made within 7 (seven) calendar days. Please include your paddle number, name, lot number, and total payment in your bank instruction. If buyers do not make any payment or notice to HERITAGE during the scheduled time, they will be considered as withdrawing. Collection of Goods Goods can be collected only when payment has cleared and been received by HERITAGE. Due to space constraints, HERITAGE requires that purchases and unsold property be collected within 7 (seven) days. If the goods remain after 7 (seven) days HERITAGE reserves the right to cause the artworks to be stored at the expense of the purchaser. Storage and Insurance HERITAGE provides insurance cover for sold items for a maximum of 7 (seven) days after the date of the sale. If the goods have not been removed by the deadline, the goods will be deposited at warehouse and all storage transportation and other associated costs as well as risk shall be at the purchaser’s responsibility.

THE SELLER

Auction estimates If you are considering selling your property at the auction, HERITAGE will provide a free initial estimate of its auction value. You can send a clear photograph of each item with complete data includes the dimension, artist’s signature, medium, physical condition and any other relevant information.

After Sale Notification You will receive an after sale advice listing the final bid price, or in the event that the property failed to sell, notification that it was bought-in to be returned to you. Payment for your sold property takes approximately 4 (four) weeks, provided payment has been received by us from the buyer.

CONDITIONS OF SALE

These conditions of sale together with any terms and conditions set out a consignment form constitute the entire agreement with the Buyer on respect to any lots listed in the catalogue. Amendment to the catalogue descriptions may be made verbally during the course of auction or by appropriate posted notices. By bidding at the auction, you shall be bound by the conditions set out below. Terms used in these conditions * “The Buyer” means the person with the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer. * “The Lot” means any items deposited with us for sale at auction and, in particular, the item (s) described against any lot number in the catalogue. * “The Hammer Price” means the amount of the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer in relation to a lot. * “The Reserve” means the amount below which we agree with the seller that the lot cannot be sold. * “The Buyer’s Premium” means the charge payable by the buyer as a percentage of the hammer price, at the rate set out in the auction room at the time of the relevant sale. * “Forgery” means a Lot constituting an imitation originally conceived and executed as a whole with a fraudulent intention to deceive as to authorship, origin, age, period, culture or source where the correct description as to such matters is not reflected by the description in the catalogue. Withdrawal of Property HERITAGE reserve the right to withdraw from the sale the property or to have the property listed at any auction without any prior notice to the vendor. Control of Auction HERITAGE will have absolute discretion to determine the successful bidder should a dispute arise between the bidders and this includes the authority to reject any bid, to cancel the sale or to re-offer the property in dispute. Ownership of Property The fall of the auctioneer’s hammer indicates the property sold to the buyer who is responsible for the property and shall be liable to pay the full purchase price within 7 (seven) days. If extended payment terms have not been granted, penalty interest will be charged on the unpaid balance until paid.

In the event a defaulting buyer has made a part payment, HERITAGE reserves the right to apply such payment to any such lots at its sole discretion. Forgery In the event of proven forgery, HERITAGE will refund to the buyer the purchase price of the lot. This refund will only occur on the following terms: (i) The buyer must provide evidence from an independent expert who proves that the lot is a forgery. HERITAGE reserves the right to request further expert evidence if, in its sole discretion, it is not satisfied with the finding of either expert. (ii) The buyer must provide written notification to HERITAGE within 1 (one) year of the auction date of the forgery allegations. No refund will occur if there is any conflict of opinion among accepted experts in the field or if it can be demonstrated that the lot is a forgery only by means of scientific process that could damage or otherwise jeopardize the condition of the lot and which scientific techniques were not commonly employed until after the publication of the catalogue. This guarantee is for the benefit of the buyer only and cannot be assigned. Such buyer must have remained the owner of the property without disposing of any interest in it to any third party up until the time the alleged forgery was discovered. Handling and Packaging Handling and packing of all purchase lots shall be at the risk of the buyer who shall pay an administration charge if HERITAGE is responsible for such services. HERITAGE shall use our best efforts to take care when handling the packing but remind the buyer that from 7 (seven) days time after the sale, the goods are entirely at the buyer’s risk. You can instruct your own shipper for the shipping. However, we can also arrange for such service but are not responsible for any costs incurred during the shipping. Notice HERITAGE remind prospective buyers that none of the property in this catalogue is subject to any guarantee of authenticity and all of the artworks sold “as is” with all imperfections, incompleteness, faults and errors of description. All property is sold without any warranty or representation. HERITAGE is not responsible for any errors or omission in the catalogue. Buyers are strongly recommended to take independent professional advice on selection of purchase.

Remedies of HERITAGE If the buyer is in breach of any of the conditions of sale then HERITAGE may choose to take the following action: (1) (2) (3)

The Collectorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s with the painting

Born in 1908 in Basle Switzerland, Meier, like the city in which he grew up, was fortunate to avoid the hardships of war which quickly overtook much of Europe. Following in his father's footsteps, he underwent a commercial apprenticeship. At the same time, he attended the Basle School of Art, and enjoyed late night discussions with the local painters, an experience which proved fertile to the young painter. From Switzerland to the South Pacific, from Bali to Thailand, Theo Meier's life was as varied and exotic as his artistic output, his character as colourful as the oils with which he painted. Theo Meier's paintings have achieved worldwide recognition for their technical excellence, and artistic integrity. He concerned very closely in Balinese people and tradition. Awiki’s paintings of realism have special character in form, color, and composition with “rembrandt lighting” approach. Due to his eye illness he was no longer using the style. Creatively he produced painting method called “mata baur - combined eyes”. Since then he creates impressionist painting of thick paint texture. Nevertheless this kind of painting gained special response from public. Awiki’s paintings include themes such as flowers, dancers, houses, trees, as well as still life. His paintings were inspired with his surroundings that described people’s daily lives and tradition. Awiki works with a purity of purpose and a mastery of technique that set his art beyond the constraints of time or place. Engaged in a direct impressionistic encounter with the dynamics of light, Awiki approaches his work with great physical courage, often enduring the ferocity of the tropical sun in order to complete a painting. Born in Basel, Switzerland, 1942. He moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1964, studied in paintings and graphic art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (1965 – 1967) and continued to Rijks Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (1967 – 1969). He frequently visits Indonesia especially Bali. He received awards from the Urio Prijs (1969), Willink van Collen Prijs (1971), Jeanna Bieruma Oosting Prijs (1974) and Arti Medaille (1987). From 1980 – 1988 he was professor at the National Academy of Fine Arts (Rijks Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten) in Amsterdam where he taught drawing and painting. He held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Europe, USA, Singapore, and Indonesia. His works are in the collection of the Netherlands state, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, City Council of Amsterdam, Duta Fine Art Museum, Jakarta, Neka Museum, Bali and private collections in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, etc. Husner works intensively in Bali since 1997. This is an invented but real Sanur; here we see a tradeswoman bringing fish and lobster to the sea-side restaurant owner. Out there, by a shrine next to the beach, a temple priest is sounding his magic bell to call up the powers of the sea and ward off imported evil from the island. There is indeed a sense of peace. But the sea is swelling and its waves are breaking violently against the shore, a storm is approaching in the background. Spots of whistle blue call and answer one another, while yellowish greens spread in waves across the landscape in the yellowing light of a late afternoon. Imperturbable, a heron is watching the scene in silence.

Roedyat Martadiredja Roedyat Martadiredja was born in Bandung, 1932 and began to learn painting in 1948 and later continued his study at the Bandung Institute of Technology. Although abstract style was a dominant stream in Bandung, Roedyat was one of the Bandung School artists who paint in a figurative style. Roedyat has an individual painting style which makes him different from other Bandung Artist. His works has deformation tendencies with soft tertiary colors and also complicated but well thought-out compositions. Roedyat has held solo exhibitions in Jakarta (1978) and was included in the East- West Center’s Art of Bali exhibition in Honolulu, Hawaii (1988). His works are unique, rich and colorful that creates a strong rhythm and his works can be found in private collections of European and American collectors. The present lot, Ika Dasa Ludra, illustrates an important ceremony in Bali to welcome the new year of Saka. Ika Dasa Ludra is a series of processions, ceremonies, and sacrifices held every 100 years at Pura Besakih, the “mother temple” of Bali, Indonesia. The temple, which comprises of about 30 separate temples honoring a great variety of Balinese and Hindu gods, was probably built about 1,000 years ago on the slopes of the volcanic mountain, Mount Agung. On March 17, 1963, the Eka Dasa Rudra was under way when Agung catastrophically erupted and killed more than 1,500 people. Since the sacrifices were interrupted, the Eka Dasa Rudra was resumed 16 years later. The temple complexes are formed in cubism style with large presentation of the crowds holding the offering for the ceremony. Images of gods were carried 19 miles down the mountain to be washed in the sea where entire villages gathered along the route. The color richness expresses the artist’s significant characteristic.

He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta (1974). In 1976 his name first emerged in the Indonesian Art Scene when he exhibited his works at the first Seni Rupa Baru Indonesia exhibition at the Balai Budaya, Jakarta. He has received several awards for his works, Jakarta Biennale 1981, won a Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards in 1997 and was participated into the ASEAN Art Awards in Manila. He has participated in many group shows as well as solo exhibitions. Dede held his solo exhibitions at Jakarta Stock Exchange (1997) and at the Art Folio Space in Singapore (2002). Today, he is considered an influential propagator of super-realist painting in Indonesia.

S. Sudjojono Sindudarsono Sudjojono was born in Kisaran North Sumatra, on December 14, 1913. He studied painting from Mas Pringadi and a Japanese painter, Chiyoyi Yazaki. In 1937 he founded the Persagi Indonesian Artists Association in Jakarta. In 1970 he was awarded recognition in art by the Indonesian government. His works have been exhibited in the Netherlands and in the Fukuoka Art Museum in Japan (1980). Local exhibitions have been held in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Denpasar and Bandung. He died in Jakarta (1986). Sudjojono was the first to introduce the idea that a painting has “visible soul”. His paintings have a typical harsh and wild strokes as if the paint has been poured directly onto canvas. His favorite subjects were ordinary Indonesians, depicted with piercing emotional realism, sometimes showing joy, pathos, dignity, and frustration. Besides painting landscapes and various flowers arrangement, Sudjojono also produced paintings of figures of his family and important people. Quite often his figures inhabit dramatic urban or rural landscapes in an almost epic sense. The present lot features figure of Mrs. Nelly Adam Malik the wife of former Vice President of Republic of Indonesia, painted gracefully wearing traditional Kebaya with detail ornament.

Srihadi Soedarsono Srihadi Soedarsono is one of the most gifted-living artists in Indonesia. Srihadi’s talent of portraying inner qualities is reflected not only in his works of ethnic dances, but also in his paintings of still objects such as Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, constructed in the 8th century. During his career, Srihadi followed the Bandung style of cubism that was characterized by a kaleidoscopic use of colours and experimented with abstraction as he extensively researched the best method to portray not only subjects, but their essence as well. Srihadi’s Borobudur is the result of his extensive research. Painted in abstraction with his personal lyrical expressionistic style, Borobudur is depicted as a monument composed primarily in black. Srihadi’s abstraction can be seen through the strong strokes on the temple walls combined with the gentle sweep on the sky and earth that present the distinctive spiritual silence. Srihadi considers the artistic architectural form of Borobudur set in the surrounding natural environment as evidence that religious behavior and attitudes are the highest of human values. Born in 23 April 1926 in Wates, Yogyakarta. He only had a short formal education until elementary school. His amazing talent and skill was sharpened through learning time with Affandi and Sudjojono. During revolutionary time in Yogya, he joined Seniman Indonesia Muda and then Pelukis Rakyat lead by Hendra Gunawan. In 1948, he was arrested and jailed in Netherlands colonial government because he was considered involving with guerrilla activity. After released from prisoner, he taught at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia, Yogyakarta during 1950-1960. He was known as one of the strongest realism painter in Indonesia. He indeed closed with opposition and had been selected as Indonesia delegate in a goodwill journey to Chekoslovakia in 1954. Trubus was also a victim of opposition elimination in 1966. Trubus had mastery in capturing the dancing figure through expressive brush stroke that become his distinctive characteristic in painting. Widayat

Born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, 1919. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta and Ceramics and Landscape, Nagoya, Japan (1960). He received BKPM award (1953), a cultural award from the Indonesian Government (1972), the Best Biennial Painting, Yogyakarta (1986) and the ASEAN Award, Brunei Darussalam (1993). His works have been shown throughout Indonesia and abroad. He performed his solo exhibitions in Yogyakarta (1983), Jakarta (1985, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000 and participated in joint exhibition in Japan, Netherlands and United States for KIAS (1990 – 1991). Widayat studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta, where hebecame known as a lecturer of the Indonesian Institute of Fine Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta as well as a prominent artist. Since 1950 to 2002, Widayat participated in numerous art exhibitions in Indonesiaas well as internationally, in countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Netherlands,Italy, United States, and Australia. Widayat is said to be a maestro after Affandi, as published in the book “Educator and Painter” by ISI Yogyakarta in 1988. Widayat was also a revolutionary artist, and master of gardening and graphics arts. Widayat was the first artist whose exhibition was largely exhibited in the Singapore Art Museum, one of the most important museums in Southeast Asia on September 2007 and it was held for the duration of two months. According to Prof. Soedarso Sp MA, Widayat’s artistic works can be levelled with the works of Henri Rousseau (a France surrealist artist) who has been his great inspiration. Widayat’s works show an immense variety of stories about nature, life, myths, and rituals. They are rich in content, texture, and technique. Widayat’s preference for the simplification and distortion of natural forms had a profound influence on many Indonesian artists. His magic decorative style is a personal visual language mostly derived from folk motifs. He focuses on inner structure rather that outward appearance. The re-petition of basic elements are order with an underlying rhythm to create movement. The artist’s works encompass all of his varied experiences as soldier, student, teacher, and religious family man. Flora and fauna, religion and mythology, masks and portraits, and daily life all are parts of his fantasy world.

Lee Man Fong Lee Man Fong was born in Canton, China, 1913. He arrived at Singapore at young age then later moved to Jakarta. He has shown great artistic talent since young. He participated in the Association’s First Art Exhibition invited by the head of the Dutch East Indies Associations (1931). Lee Man Fong was a successful commercial artist before engaged in full time painting in 1941. His successful exhibitions in Bandung and Jakarta made him a fast growing artist at that time. He received scholarship from the Dutch government to study painting in Holland (1946). In 1952 he returned to Indonesia and gained more credits as well as acknowledgement. He was officially become a presidential palace’s painter and chief curators of its collection in 1961 and compiled a 5 volume edition of President Sukarno’s art collection. He died in 1988 and remembered as a western vigorous painter and an oriental unique oil painting painter. Besides his great intense in observing the nature especially animal such as gold fish and doves, women were Lee’s most cherished subject. His figures reflect a wealth of thought and inner content. Lee Man Fong’s portraits are remarkable lifelike, fresh and moving and at the same time full of artistic individuality. His portraits excel equally in form and expression, vitality and faithfulness, and rank above works. The theme of Balinese Weaver is exceptionally rare and most desirable by collectors. This particular female archetype featured prominently in the Balinese works, as if the artist was trying to capture the energy of the weaver and the female spirit. He represented the women in a respectful light, engaging in daily activities and shows the artist experimenting with composition, colors, and aesthetics.

Antonio Blanco Don Antonio Blanco was born in Manila, the Philippines,on 15 September 1911. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in New York, the United States in 1934. He was later professionally based in Florida and California, and has lived in Ubud, Bali since 1952. He received awards from the Tiffany Fellowship, New York, La Cofradia de el Arros, Spain and has been honored by several international art organizations and the government of Bali presentd him with the Dharma Kusuma Cultural award in 1997 in recognition of his dedication to painting. He passed away in Campuhan, Ubud, Bali on 10 December 1999. Blanco has spent a lifetime sketching and painting many kinds of object like the sensuous teapots, the furrowed face of an old man, self-portraits and the look of a child. His painting usually framed in his own design that sometimes becomes one unity to the object of the painting. The subject, composition and the frame are all part of the artistâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s expression, which he indulged with opulent extravagance.

Rusli was born in Medan, North Sumatra, 1912. He studied at the Kala Bhawana Santiniketan University of Rabindranath Tagore, India from 1932 to 1938, and he taught in 1951 at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI) in Yogyakarta. He joined Seniman Muda Indonesia (Indonesian Young Artists) and helped established the Seni Rupa Masyarakat (Art for People Association). In 1955 he performed his solo exhibition at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. His works were exhibited at the Biennale exhibition II in Sao Paolo, Brazil (1953) and held solo exhibition at Palazzo Brancaccio, Rome, Italy (1954 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 1956). He passed away in Jakarta on 11 May 2005.

He graduated form the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1951 and continued his study of art and handicrafts in Amsterdam finished in 1953. Besides painting, he also created graphic works. He was among the first who benefited from a Dutch formal education during the colonial period and was able to acquire a strong intellectual basis for producing modern art. From a very young age, he was able to nurture his artistic bent through special instruction from Dutch art teachers. He went on to pursue art at the Kunstnijverheid School in Amsterdam, and the Ecole Nationale Suprieure des Beaux Arts in Paris as well as the Deutsche Akademie der Kuenste in Berlin. Due to his extensive art studies, Mochtar Apin became proficient in a variety of techniques. With such knowledge, he was well equipped to debate on the role of art in Indonesia. In the Indonesian art world, Mochtar Apin’s diverse range of interests and unique versatility in style has left behind an artistic legacy that has held the interest of art connoisseurs to this day. Affandi As a renowned artist, Affandi (1907 – 1990) participated in various exhibitions abroad. Besides India, he also displayed his works in the biennale in Brazil (1952), Venice (1954), and Sao Paulo (1956). In 1957, he received a scholarship from the United States government to study arts education. He was appointed as an Honorary Professor in Painting by Ohio State University in Columbus. In 1974, he received an honorary doctorate from University of Singapore, the Peace Award from the Dag Hammarskjoeld Foundation in 1977, and the title of Grand Maestro in Florence, Italy. Affandi’s works are explosions of paint on canvas, expressing the observed world through pure impulse and energy. During the period of 1980’s, Affandi has been using vivid colours like red, yellow, light green and bright blue. His former black murky tones have been replaced by a greater part of the canvas being left blank. Affandi was particularly fond of Bali and Javanese culture. His feelings about the land and its people, like farmer, fisherman, are depicted in the theme of ploughing the field, seascapes, or coastal landscapes with fishing boats. In painting the present lot, Affandi depicts the paddy field object being plowed. His spontaneous squeezed paint method shows distinctive expressionistic and emotionally resonant. Affandi’s paintings reveal much of the social and natural environment and often include the shape of the sun as an object. His wild fingers in expressing the color and the object gives not only strong technique of painting but also describes a message of his empathy towards the condition he personally observed and witnessed.

Internationally celebrated Painter and Sculptor, Teguh Ostenrik holds a Master Degree in Fine Arts Hochschule der Kuenste, West Berlin , Germany. Lee Man Fong Lee Man Fong was born in Canton, China, 1913. He arrived at Singapore at young age then later moved to Jakarta. He has shown great artistic talent since young. He participated in the Association’s First Art Exhibition invited by the head of the Dutch East Indies Associations (1931). Lee Man Fong was a successful commercial artist before engaged in full time painting in 1941. His successful exhibitions in Bandung and Jakarta made him a fast growing artist at that time. He received scholarship from the Dutch government to study painting in Holland (1946). In 1952 he returned to Indonesia and gained more credits as well as acknowledgement. He was officially become a presidential palace’s painter and chief curators of its collection in 1961 and compiled a 5 volume edition of President Sukarno’s art collection. He died in 1988 and remembered as a western vigorous painter and an oriental unique oil painting painter. Lee Man Fong is famous painter who captures gold fishes in magnificent way. Here, light is of prime importance and the subjects are consistently bathed in a luminous glow as presented in this lot. Some gold fishes are swimming freely in the space of an aquarium, still with his essential element by using the light, reflecting the sun’s radiance, Lee success to bring all the goldfishes as a depiction of calmness. The background, unlike the flat, void spaces of Chinese paintings, is likewise illuminated by an almost mysterious glow of white sunlight. Therefore the subjects, reflecting the sun’s radiance, seem also to be lit from the back, creating the effect of “glowing silhouettes”.

I Nyoman Masriadi Born in Gianyar, Bali 1973, I Nyoman Masriadi speaks volume through his intricately unique works of arts. Considered as one of the most idiosyncratic artists in Indonesia, he has been in the past moving train that moves forward to produce the spirit of figures exploration under the social criticism of other themes. The theme of Masriadi’s painting ranging from abstract style and figure painting as the presentation of his own exploration. The artist sketches with pencils or felt tipped markers directly on the canvas, but uses these lines only as guides when applying paints. Masriadi derives his inspiration from the trivialities of day to day life, carefully portraying activities that would normally be disregarded of forgotten. Combining the strength of his idea with a sharp wit and healthy sense of humor, his works not only capture the attention of the viewer, but also makes them think, twice, thrice, about what is meant to be conveyed. There is no doubt that Masriadi has been influenced by American Pop Art, but also by the consumerist society that has flourished in Indonesia during the last decade. Possessing the creative spirit of a true artist, he become an artist not to be dictated by the market demands or what is currently trendy in the world of art. His process of creation is instead guided by his own compass, fueled by his own need to express himself of how he views the world and what he sees in the present. The present lot encounter a picture with a melodramatic tenor. A number of partial figures hover into view and these merge into one another, virtually foregoing their respective bodily forms. Even so, we look out for and hook our attention onto residual figurations. Hence we see a heavily masked face appearing in profile towards the left; it is painted predominantly in black. A nude figure, suggestively female, posed in rear view walks into the picture and is absorbed into its ground. Towards the top edge, the upper section of a face with eyes peering out is visible; beside it is another face/head titled onto one side with one eye presented as open. Even as we look out for, identity body components and secure them as discrete forms or entities, out attention is pulled towards upraising the picture in terms of densely configured colors. Huang Fong made friends with many senior painters and learnt a lot from them. One of them would be the famous Indonesiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s artist Affandi, whom he befriended in Bali in 1968. Since 1963, he was a professional Indonesian artist. At first, he painted oil on canvas, eventually, during 1974. He continued to learn oil painting under painter Nurdin in 1961. He came to Bali in 1967, lived in Ubud and later on moved to Denpasar. he began to exploring his arts by mixed the East and West techniques. Huang Fong has already held solo exhibitions since 1961 and his art pieces were exhibited in Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea and Australia 78

He studied painting from senior artists such as Trubus Soedarsono, Sudarso, Affandi and Hendra Gunawan (1953 – 1959). He also took formal study at the ASRI, Academy of Fine Arts in Yogyakarta (1952 – 1958). He became the member of Pelukis Rakyat (People’s Painter) during 1950s. Since 1955, he had been actively participated in several solo and group exhibition in Medan, Jakarta and Yogyakarta (1983). His work was included in the travelling exhibition of modern Indonesian Art for the Festival of Indonesia in America from 1990 to 1991. Batara Lubis was interested in depicting scenes from the daily life and ceremonies of the Indonesian people. He uses traditional Heritage of Batak motifs and themes in creating his characters. He realized the importance of preserving the traditional cultures was one of which by applying the theme onto his painting. Lubis works in canvas as well as in paper and also made Batik paintings.

Tio Tjay Tio Hok Tjay was born in Jakarta 1946, he began to study painting at the young painter association in Jakarta 1956. In 1967, he decided to settle in Brazil with his family and live in Sao Paulo. During his reside in South America gives him an opportunity to explore the Amazon rainforest that inspired his painting of nature theme. In 1976, participate in the exhibition of Bienal Nacional de SĂŁo Paulo and also held many exhibitions, from Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and even Paraguay. Among the group exhibitions includes; The Second Collective Exhibition of Sao Gaetano Do Sul CONTEMPORARY ART, The Third Collective Exhibition of Campinas Youth Painter, and many more. He also became part of the Inter-National Association of Plastic Art (AIAP) from UNESCO. 1980's was a great decade for Tio Tjay. He was invited to join an exhibition in Italy which was held in Naples for a cultural relationship between Brazil and Italy. A few years later, he was again invited to Tukuyama, Japan for a collective exhibition. Tio Tjay's strong painting is affected by the Latin colors that was dominant in Brazil. Besides painting beautiful scenery and natural theme, Tio Tjay also paint animal and traditional market scene. His works appear colorful with good composition, so that his works are easily remembered and enjoyed by art lovers in Indonesia and International. The tradition and natural beauty that he found in Brazil and Indonesia became a very beautiful composition that creates unique style of art work by combining the brave colors of Latin, with an oriental style, applied in the wondrous Indonesia and the exotic and mysterious Amazon.

Willem Gerard Hofker Willem Gerard Hofker was born in the Netherlands in 1902. He received a formal art education, encouraged by an amateur artist Father, he attended first the ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ at the Hague followed by the ‘Rijksacademie’ in Amsterdam. A prestigious commission to paint Queen Wilhelmina resulted in a trip to Indonesia in 1938. Inspired by the beauty of the women, the landscape and fascinated by the rituals of Bali in particular, he remained there until 1944. During his sojourn in Ubud, he socialised with the other foreign artists Rudolf Bonnet and Walter Spies who were living and working there at the time. Hofker’s works include many Balinese dancers and typical Balinese village scenes yet this painting is of a Dutch girl. Returning to the Netherlands after the Second World War, Hofker continued to paint for a living. While much of his work was commissioned portraits he would still recreate the beautiful Balinese scenes that he had encountered years earlier. Besides inspired by Balinese women figure, Hofker also painted portraits of his relatives. All are captured in sharply-observed and widely varied attitudes. If no relatives were at hand, Willem would sit before a mirror and draw himself. Hofker left an even larger number of portraits – in various techniques – of his mother, all bearing witness to his great love. In later years his wife Maria was a frequent and very patient subject of portraits in all kinds of techniques. The present lot illustrates one of his objects in portrait paintings. Hofker used a remarkable striking way with the eyes, involving infinite nuances of color and splendid downward illumination. His entire portrait is typified by its especially capable expression, carefully considered compositional unity and subtle color nuances and grey tints in shaded planes. Even the smallest detail is the result of his awareness of the essence of his models.

Trubus Sudarsono Born in 23 April 1926 in Wates, Yogyakarta. He only had a short formal education until elementary school. His amazing talent and skill was sharpened through learning time with Affandi and Sudjojono. During revolutionary time in Yogya, he joined Seniman Indonesia Muda and then Pelukis Rakyat lead by Hendra Gunawan. In 1948, he was arrested and jailed in Netherlands colonial government because he was considered involving with guerrilla activity. After released from prisoner, he taught at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia, Yogyakarta during 1950-1960. He was known as one of the strongest realism painter in Indonesia. He indeed closed with opposition and had been selected as Indonesia delegate in a goodwill journey to Chekoslovakia in 1954. Trubus was also a victim of opposition elimination in 1966. Trubus had mastery in capturing the dancing figure through expressive brush stroke that become his distinctive characteristic in painting. He tended to use secondary and tertiary colours that reflected his restless spirit.

Together with Affandi, Sudarso, Hendra Gunawan, and Barli established Kelompok Lima artists group. He taught drawing at a public school and worked in furniture business in Bandung. He was well known as a landscape painter.

Dullah was born in Solo, 1919. He studied painting under Affandi and Sudjojono but has his own distinctive style of naturalism. He was well known for his landscape and portraits paintings. He was one of the founders of HBS – Surakarta Cultural Community (1950). In 1956, he edited book of former Presiden Soekarno’s Private Collection of Indonesian Art (volume I & II). Since the early days of the independence, Dullah was very close to Soekarno, the first President of the Republic of Indonesia and was appointed by Soekarno to care for the President’s private art collection and as curator of the state painting collections. At age 70, Dullah built his museum, now a cultural landmark, as his dedication to a love of the arts over a creative lifetime. He has had numerous art exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas and in 1988 his work was included in the Art of Bali exhibition held at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Now, his works been kept in Dullah Museum in Solo. He died in 1996.

Putu Sutawijaya studied art at Indonesia Institute of Fine Art (ISI) Yogyakarta. He currently lives and works in Yogyakarta and Bali. As a painter, sculptor and performance artist, Putu embodies the multi-media, cross-disciplinary character of Indonesian contemporary art. At the same time, a main focus of his work is the human body as both an expressive form and a vessel of the spirit: as Putu says, ‘the body is the medium of suffering, pain, laughter and fear.’ Putu’s gestural movement communicates an intense spectrum of spiritual and emotional states, from contemplation to sorrow to the pure exuberance of dance. Putu is also deeply drawn to sacred sites and often travels to the ancient temples scattered around Java and Bali, where he spends days painting.

*) Bidding will be conducted in Indonesia Rupiah. Bid amount is excluded from the buyer’s premium. I request that HERITAGE Fine Art Auction enter bids on the following lots up to the maximum price I have indicated for each lot. I understand if my bid is succesful, the purchase price will be the sum of my final bid plus buyer’s premium of 22% (twenty two precent). If identical absentee bids are left, HERITAGE Fine Art Auction will give precedence to the first one received. All bids, on a per lot basis as indicated, will be executed and are accepted subject to the “ Conditions of Sale” as printed in catalogue in the sale.
