For a couple of weeks now, I’ve been wondering what is the best way to get success in the blogging business.
And while I was reading a book a few days back, it hit me:
“Don’t try to reinvent the wheel dumbo”
This started my quest on finding out what the top bloggers in our industry are doing. I mean, they are making $100,000+ per month so it makes sense for me to spend some time trying to understand what they are doing and how they are doing it. . Also, to try and figure out why and how they are so freakin’ successful. . So I figured, why not share it with my tribe too. This will help a ton of people who want to be successful online….
Over the next few weeks, I will reverse engineer the basics of the most influential blogs and website and share it with you on DigiFloss.com so make sure you bookmark this and come back to it often.

I have reverse engineered & Anayzed 3 of the main components any blog has, namely:
1. Content 2. Traffic & Social Media 3. Monetization
It took a lot of time to figure out what to cover and what to leave out & I am pretty sure there are a lot of things that I might have missed out on, if you think I missed something important, please leave a comment below and let me know.
I plan to do this for at least 10-15 different websites so it will help me get better and in turn help a lot of new comers in the market.

JohnChow.com is a 14 year old domain name. It took the shape of a ‘Make Money Online/Home Biz’ blog around 2005-06. There are over 3,128 blog posts and growing. 1. Global Alexa Rank = 17,341 2. JohnChow.com has been an internet marketing blog from 2005-06 and therefore there are a ton of posts on the blog.
Another thing that I really love about John Chow is that he has been super consistent!
…and I mean ‘SUPER’ consistent with publishing good posts year after year for almost 10 years now.
John chow has over 3,128 articles at the time of writing this post. Here’s how many articles he has posted year after year. This took a little work but you know I’d do anything for my tribe :)

See, how his number has been around 1 blog post per day in 20072010? and then it grew to around 1.2 blog posts per day?
That tells us that consistency is the key to his success.
In 2006 it was around 1 article every 2 days but from then on, I am assuming John saw some good results and therefore started investing more time into blogging. The result?
Approximately 1 blog post per day from 2007-2014.
How long does it take to write a blog post? Is it worth $100,000 per month to you? If the answer is Yes, Start blogging!
The posting frequency has been more or less the same – 1 blog post per day and you’re good to go.

The key is consistency, even Neil Patel from QuickSprout.com suggests that the most important thing in blogging is CONSISTENCY!
I studied how many comments each blog post on his blog was getting to get an idea of the engagement that he has with his visitors.
His blog posts usually get around 20-25 comments per blog post, which is not bad at all‌.
‌blog comments show that the users engage with the blogger. Also, John replies to the comments himself so that shows that he really cares about his visitors.
The average time spent on JohnChow.com is 2 Minutes 41 Seconds.
Now, this may vary a little because I cannot access his Google Analytics dashboard but I am using some of the best tools available in the world right now to get this data so it should be pretty accurate.

Time on website, again, shows engagement. Think of a blog as a TV show, if it weren’t interesting people would switch to another website/blog.
Since his blog posts are also not very lengthy (except a few), I am assuming with the average time on website being 2 Minutes 41 Seconds, the user must be reading atleast 1/2 of the post if not the entire thing…. or skimming through the entire post.
This is one metric that decides search engine rankings and again is an indicator of the engagement level of the users with the website. John Chow’s bounce rate is 55.80% , which is average.
….not bad, but not great either!
I went through 10 of his latest blog posts and found out that on an average, his blog posts gets:
1. 22 Facebook Likes/Shares. 2. 82 Tweets.

ENGAGEMENT = MONEY!!!
The average length of articles on JohnChow.com is around 700-800 words and they usually have around 2-4 images. His main blog post page also has an image ad and I’ve excluded that in this calculation:

All in all, I truly believe that John has his content strategy nailed. Consistent blog post publishing & Engaging Content.
JohnChow.com has a Global Alexa Rank of 17,335 It has the highest readership in India & it’s Alexa there is 6,307. Considering the fact that we are 1.2 BILLION, it is no surprise :p
John’s Youtube Channel has over 8,100 subscribers.
His Youtube has seen over 5,826,749 views since March, 2006 which is when the channel was setup.
His Facebook Page has almost 19,000 likes and growing. He posts 1 link per day on this FB page that leads to his Blog page so it’s like a cycle that he has going. 1. From the blog he gets people to like his facebook page. 2. On the Facebook page he posts his articles.

John Chow has a great monetization model that produces MASSIVE PASSIVE income and a consistent one at that.

All this makes him around $12,500 just from the ads running on his website. Then has Clickbank product launches that did really well and probably are bringing in sales as I write this blog post. 1. IM With JohnChow is still selling at a $1 Trial & $47 monthly rebill. 2. Blogging with John Chow which is $37 on Clickbank.

Make Money Online: Roadmap of a Dot Com Mogul Paperback There is no way to estimate his affiliate income since that is something that only he has access to. He also speaks at marketing conferences and that too, is an income that I cannot estimate, but I know it exists.
Also, I am assuming, someone as successful as him, gets consultation calls from top businesses in the online marketing and technology space which would also makes him money.

I don’t really know why BUT JohnChow.com looks hideous on the mobile device. I thought it was just me so I had another friend check it out - STILL UGLY.
I was very surprised since a ton of traffic is mobile and the percentage is only going to grow in the coming years. The website isn’t optimized for mobile devices.
