Clothing is the craft

BESH Autumn / Winter Collection 20/21 BESH | DIKSHA | 1

A Craftsman’s craft can serve as a refuge from the world, providing necessary time to reflect and contemplate but no matter how strong one’s preference for solitude is, we all need to engage with the larger world.

GADIA LOHARS

GADIA LOHAR is a nomad community from Rajasthan which changes their stay every season. They are Blacksmiths who used to be the professional for the kingdom. Their community back then was very emotionally connected to the king and promised to live in the province only if he’s ruling the kingdom. King lost the battle and his stern supporters got legally abandoned by the British empire and were declared as Raj doshi and were always asked to live under surveillance of the local police. And till now this community always is asked to live nearby police station. I was very fascinated by their clothing. Other than iron molding, clothing is also one of their craft which they do it for themselves. Their clothing is not only very practice but also has very sustainable build up.

The Reality is, our bodies are frames to protect and assist. What is inside, who we truly are, none of this is has to do anything with our gender. No one is completely feminine or completely masculine. Stereotypes are the one that we make. The theme ARDHANARESHWAR is born out of the rage and energy that has been collected in us over the years of comparison and taboos formed. We are all in this together, not one or 100 everyone has faced this. But we who has so much pride for out religion and gods don’t go back and look that our own gods has not discriminated but this is what we do to our society . Ardhanareshwar is the fusion form of lord Shiva and Parvati. One who is ultimate power and the other who regulates all the energies of this world. One whose calm, loving, nurturing and the other who takes care of this beings. Both are complete together and fused their energies to equalize each others flaws. This theme is all about equalizing aspects of our own-Self. Our strengths, weaknesses. All our uneven parts.
