Merrill J. Fernando was born on 6th May, 1930 to a middle class, rural family in the village of Pallansena. With invincible faith, passion, and dedication he pursued his quest for a better deal for producers and worked till the age of 91. He was laid to rest in Pallansena after he returned to the arms of his beloved Lord on 20th July, 2023. He leaves an unprecedented legacy of kindness that will continue through generations.

Tea is uniquely rich in natural antioxidant goodness

Scientific research confirms what Asians believed for centuries – that white, green, oolong and black tea contain powerful natural antioxidants which may protect regular tea drinkers from many degenerative diseases. The main degenerative diseases of concern today are heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Studies suggest that the antioxidant activity of flavonoids in tea may reduce the risk of many degenerative diseases and help maintain good oral health.

In Dilmah Tea & Your Health book, we hope to convey the extent of that goodness. The CTC method of tea manufacture, sacrificed the soul of tea, compromising the beauty of terroir for a cut, crush, tear and curl method of manufacture

Size of Leaf Denote Strength not Quality

The smallest of tea grades is so small as to resemble actual dust. A good dust should be grainy, free from fibre and grit. Usually makes for the strongest brew and flavor, although lacking subtlety.

A true natural BOP should consist of only that leaf broken up in the rollers which passes through a No.10 mesh.

The largest of the leafy grades and usually makes the lightest brew and flavour.

CTC tea was initially devised as a way to process damaged or low quality leaves

The traditional style of manufacturing tea is artisanal, demanding expertise at each step. It is an exacting method, demanding expertise but it is the only way to make good tea.

Dilmah tea had made a mark with its fresh, single origin, 100% pure Ceylon tea. However, we needed to produce something spectacular to celebrate 25 years infused in the goodness of Dilmah tea. To explore its diverse varieties whilst remaining true to its origins, and giving this 5000 year old herb a touch of the 21st century whilst embracing the time of its ancestors. Introducing the Silver Jubilee Gourmet range was a fitting celebration for the tapestry of tea Dilmah has woven across, over two decades.

High elevation single-region tea infused with natural Australian sweet almond. An amber infusion produces a malty, medium-bodied tea. The subtle almond note develops on the palate and remains in the finish.

Dilmah believes in the prolonged value generated through integrating sustainability to the heart of its operations. The longterm plans to increase reliance on renewable energy, maintaining a sustainable vehicle fleet, opting for eco-friendly packaging options, and investing in intensive R&D to improve the sustainability of our product packaging, are non-negotiable commitments for Dilmah.

We started our sustainability journey in 2000, since then we have eliminated 541,370kg of plastics. The biodegradability of our tea bags varies from 98%100%.

Our current renewable energy 61% capacity grew by resulting in a total saving of 2,675 tCO2e equivalent to growing 55,135 trees.

In 2021, we pledged Science Based Targets initiative displaying our staunch commitment to achieving zero emissions by 2030.
