From the Desk of CMD We are stepping on the other side of the threshold, into the year 2013 with a bag of mixed feelings. On one hand we are seeing all the Project Heads as well as other Seniors, particularly in the Contracting Division taking lead in training their own teams. Their active participation is worth applauding. On the other hand, they are themselves getting trained to perform better, and for bigger roles. Without any doubt this trend will not just continue but shall be taken across Rohan Group. Indeed there have been misses, but like they say 'a mistake does not remain a mistake, if one learns from it. In such cases, our mistakes turn out to be the best teachers'. These 'teachers' of ours have taught us two lessons: Firstly, if we make up our mind we indeed can achieve turnover of over Rs. 1000 Cr. Secondly, we do need to bring in a lot of internal transformation by way of systems & policies and knowledge orientation in order to sustain this success. Like Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj had said, there is no disgrace in retreating momentarily in order to gain a larger victory. As a conscious call, we would be rolling back a little as far as Contracting division is concerned. In turn, we will get a breather to focus on the processes & bottom line. However, as far as Real Estate is concerned we will go at full throttle. We would be looking at almost 10 new launches in this year in Pune and Bangalore. We would be looking at Affordable Housing segment as new business vertical. This will help us to capitalize on our knowledge as a Developer and skills as a Contractor. We will be utilizing this time as a sabbatical for enrichment of the organization. A lot of effort will go into focusing on people development, be it technical skills or soft skills. We would be looking at strengthening our systems and procedures. We have learnt that if you hire right... half the battle is already won. We will be using contemporary tools and techniques to achieve the same. The rest of the half can be won through proper Performance Management System. Good implementation of Performance Management System cannot be detached from the Performance Linked Variable benefits. We will be seriously looking at this option across Rohan in this year. In fact we are already working on deriving a formula for the same. The whole learning and implementat ion shall revolve around Empowering people and bringing Accountability. I look forward to your whole hearted participation in these winds of change‌let us all together clear the runway this year to take the much desired Udaan!!

Awards Kalpana Chawala was Born in Karnal city in India . She was the first Indian American astronaut, and first Indian woman in space. She first flew on the Columbia in 1997 as a mission specialist and primary robotic arm operator. She was one of seven crew members killed in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in Feb 2003. Education Kalpana completed her schooling at Tagore Public School, Karnal and her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Punjab Engineering College at Chandigarh in 1982. She moved to the United States in 1982 and obtained a M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1984. She went on to earn a second M.S. degree in 1986 and a PhD in aerospace engineering in 1988 from the University Of Colorado At Boulder. Later that year she began working at the NASA Ames Research Center as Vice President of Overset Methods, Inc. where she did CFD research on Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing concepts. She held a Certificated Flight Instructor rating for airplanes, gliders and Commercial Pilot licenses for single and multi-engine airplanes, seaplanes and gliders. NASA career Dr. Kalpana joined the NASA 'Astronaut Corps' in March 1995 and was selected for her first flight in 1996. She spoke the following words while traveling in the weightlessness of space, "You are just your intelligence". She had traveled 10.4 million km, as many as 252 times around the Earth. Her first space mission began on November 19, 1997 as part of
the six-astronaut crew that flew the Space Shuttle Columbia flight STS-87. She was the first Indian-born woman and the second Indian person to fly in space, following cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma who flew in 1984 in a spacecraft. On her first mission she traveled over 10.4 million miles in 252 orbits of the earth, logging more than 372 hours in space. During STS-87, she was responsible for deploying the Spartan Satellite which malfunctioned, necessitating a spacewalk by Winston Scott and Takao Doi to capture the satellite. A five-month NASA investigation fully exonerated her by identifying errors in software interfaces and the defined procedures of flight crew and ground control. After the completion of STS-87 post-flight activities, she was assigned to technical positions in the astronaut office to work on the space station, her performance in which was recognized with a special award from her peers. She in the space shuttle simulator In 2000 she was selected for her second flight as part of the crew of STS-107. This mission was repeatedly delayed due to scheduling conflicts and technical problems such as discovery of cracks in the shuttle engine flow liners. On January 16, 2003. She finally returned to space aboard Columbia on the ill-fated STS107 mission. Her responsibilities included the microgravity experiments, for which the crew conducted nearly 80 experiments studying earth & space science, advanced technology development, and astronaut health & safety. Death Dr. Kalpana died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster which occurred on February 1, 2003, when the Space Shuttle disintegrated over Texas during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, with the loss of all seven crew members, shortly before it was scheduled to conclude its 28th mission, STS-107. Sir Ganga Ram KCSI was an eminent Civil Engineer born in Mangtanwala, a small village of Punjab Province in British India now in Punjab, Pakistan and educated at the Thomason College of Civil Engineering (now known as the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee) 1873 batch. He was a leading philanthropist and agriculturist of his times, who established the Renala Hydral Power Station in Renala Khurd, Punjab in 1925. Early life: His father, Doulat Ram was a Jr. Sub inspector at a Police Station in Mangtanwala. Later, he shifted to Amritsar and became a copy-writer of the Court. Here, Ganga Ram passed his matriculation examination from the Government High School and joined the Government College, Lahore in 1869. In 1871, he obtained a scholarship to the Thomason Civil Engineering College at Roorkee. He passed the final lower subordinate examination with the gold medal in 1873. He was appointed Assistant Engineer and called to Delhi to help in the building of the Imperial Assemblage. Career: After a brief Service in Punjab P.W.D devoted himself to practical farming. He obtained on lease from Government 50,000 acres (200 km²) of barren, unirrigated land. Within three years he converted that vast desert into smiling fields, irrigated by water lifted by a hydroelectric plant and running through a thousand miles of irrigation channels, all constructed at his own cost. This was the biggest private enterprise of the kind, unknown and unthought-of in the country before. Sir Ganga Ram earned millions most of which he gave to charity. In the words of Sir Malcolm Hailey, the Governor of Punjab, "he won like a Hero and gave like a Saint". In 1900, Ganga Ram was selected by Lord Curzon to act as superintendent of works in the Imperial Durbar to be held in connection with the accession of King Edward VII. He finished the work at the Darbar managing its manifold problems and challenges but his name was not included in the New Year Honors list. Consequently, he retired prematurely from service in 1903. He designed and built General Post Office, Lahore, Lahore Museum, Aitchison College, Mayo School of Arts (now the National College of Arts), Ganga Ram Hospital, Lady Mclagan Girls High School, the Chemistry department of the Government College University, the Albert Victor wing of Mayo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram High School (now Lahore College for Women), the Hailey College of Commerce (now Hailey College of Banking & Finance), Ravi Road House for the Disabled, the Ganga Ram Trust Building on "The Mall" and Lady Maynard Industrial School. He also constructed Model Town and Gulberg town, once the best localities of Lahore, the powerhouse at Renala Khurd as well as the railway track between Pathankot and Amritsar He built Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore (1921), Lady Mclagan School and Renala Khurd Power House with his own money. Another hospital Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi was built in 1951. Service in Patiala State He became Superintending Engineer in Patiala State for the capital's reconstruction project after his retirement. Amongst his works were Moti Bagh Palace, Secretariat Building, New Delhi, Victoria Girls School, the law courts and police station. In district Faisalabad (then Lyalpur) Tehsil Jaranwala, Ganga Ram built a unique traveling facility, it was Gora Train(horse pulled train). It was a railway line from Buchiana Railway station (on Lahore Jaranwala railway line) to the his village Gangapur. It remained in use for decades even after Independence. It became useless for need of repair in 80s. It was unique of its kind. It was two simple trollies pulled on a narrow rail track with horse instead of railway engine. The same was resumed in 2010 by the Faisal Abad District Authorities giving it a status of cultural heritage. Agriculturalist He was a promising agriculturist, too. He purchased thousands acres of barren land in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) on lease and by using engineering skills and modern irrigation methods, turned the arid lands into fertile fields. Literature A statue of Sir Ganga Ram once stood on Mall Road in Lahore. Saadat Hasan Manto, the famous Urdu writer, in one of his stories on the frenzy of religious riots of 1947 writes that an inflamed mob in Lahore, after attacking a residential area, 'turned to attacking the statue of Sir Ganga Ram, the Hindu philanthropist. They first pelted the statue with stones; then smothered its face with coal tar. Then a man made a garland of old shoes climbed up to put it round the neck of the statue. The police arrived and opened fire. Among the injured were the fellow with the garland of old shoes. As he fell, the mob shouted: “Let us rush him to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.” Legacy A student hostel, Ganga Bhawan was established at IIT Roorkee (erstwhile University of Roorkee and Thomason College of Civil Engg) on Nov 26,

Outstanding Features: Offices are situated around a seven-story, 30,000 sq. ft. atrium where employees and guests can enjoy the natural daylight from the skylight. Two basket handles are attached to the building with replica copper and wooden rivets. The handles are heated to prevent ice from forming. Two Longaberger tags are attached to the sides of the building. The gold leaf painted tags are 725 lbs each and measure 25'x7'x3".A majority of the cherry woodwork in the building was harvested from Longaberger Golf Club in Hanover, dried and milled in our Malta facility, sawed and shaped at our Construction Woodshop, finished and installed by our Construction Division. Points of Interest: The Longaberger Company designed the exterior and interior of the building. NBBJ and Korda Nemeth Engineering administered the construction process. The building is a trademark of The Longaberger Company. Groundbreaking began on October 23, 1995 and employees moved in December 9, 1997. The building has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, People magazine, Time magazine and U.S. News and World Report. Longaberger has received numerous landscaping and construction awards for this building.
