YEAR IN REVIEW VOL.9

2014 CONTINUITY Having entered our 50th year in business, we celebrated by documenting the history of the firm through our blog buildingconversations.com. While writing, we learned how strong and consistent the personality of the firm remains in its second generation of ownership. We continue to design and explore new project types that keep us engaged in the joy of design discovery. We completed our first student center/library at Fitchburg State University, a six-year phased renovation that embodies the University’s transformed relationship with the city of Fitchburg and our first residential substance abuse recovery center for Spectrum Health Systems. Our interiors group was also hard at work completing The Jewish Vocational Service, an organization that provides job training to diverse populations. Relationships, always a key to our success over the years, continue to grow. A major renovation of St. Mary’s Hall at Boston College is one whom we have worked with for 20 years. Our work in the life sciences sector, a 20-year-old personal relationship, is also growing into a significant line of early stage life science work with King Street Properties, with whom we completed the UniQure project in Lexington, MA. Our traditionally strong markets of higher education and senior living continue to provide interesting projects. This year we completed the public-private partnership high-rise residence hall East Village at Northeastern University. Additionally, we also completed an affordable senior community for The Neighborhood of Affordable Housing in Carlisle, an AIA Design for Aging award winner. Lastly, our culture of pursuing balance is intact and evolving. Our mission continues to be to help our clients make the world more beautiful, functional and sustainable. Our goal is to achieve an optimum balance of project factors so we leave the world better than we find it. To this end, we signed the 2030 Climate Commitment this year to reduce our buildings’ energy footprints going forward. Take a minute, and think about the value of balance in your life. If you have a project that could benefit from better balance, give us a call.
